The SGA hatememe itself was just foreplay: welcome to the big wank event.
I was just thinking about trying to write this up when I moseyed over to wank_report and found out some kind soul had gathered almost all of the links. Does it go without saying how much I love anonymice right now?

There's been something in the air in fandom lately. Maybe it's all the season finales. Maybe it's the way winter has given way to spring and spring has given way to summer and things are blossoming in full force. Maybe someone really did pee in the cheerios. But whatever the case may be, in almost every big fandom, it's suddenly been time for hate--or more specifically and in the grand HP tradition, time for anonymous hatememes.

Very briefly, the SGA hatememe inched up onto the Fandom Wank shore before being swiftly washed away by the tidal waves of a good solid TOSing, leaving randomly disconnected bits of wank flopping in the sun like dying fish. This was a largely uninteresting process as a result. But like the very best of wanks, that outrushing of the tide was only the sea gathering itself for a much bigger wave.

It all begins with toadstoolsmiles makes a post defending the hatememes:

Fandom is *not* utopia. Openly discussing porn does *not* make us better people. There's plenty of hate in the world because there are plenty of people in the world, the buck doesn't stop when you click the create account button and it's incredibly naive to think that. I see people saying they are disgusted and sickened and the hate meme is a detriment to life, the universe and everything, but I say that seeing someone that I don't like getting deservedly smacked about was the most fun i'd had in ages.

You can contemplate the irony of someone discussing how fandom isn't full of people who love each other not foreseeing the possible damning consequences of this comment later on, because as you might imagine, it's battle time! You see, seperis isn't happy about this post, really not happy.

In fact, she's so not happy that she's got to do something about this, the fact that toadstoolsmiles isn't even on her flist and has never crossed her fannish path before notwithstanding:

Is there any way to pre-emptively ban someone from every commenting on your lj, ever friending you, or you know, *breathing in your general vicinity*? Mabye like restraining order requiring them to stay two fandoms away? Or a neat little thing that makes their name *vanish* from your flist no matter the context?

Because? There *should* be. At least the first two.

It really isn't a hatememe wank without the obligatory mention of "why can't I keep you from friending me", is it?

Meanwhile, amireal and toadstoolsmiles go at it for a while, and then amireal weighs in on how she feels about anonmemes and all the reasons why the arguments in favor of them are wrong, wrong, WRONG. I link mostly because, as my good mousey friend pointed out, somebody here attempts sanity, and it's always refreshing in the middle of a wank to see that kind of thing.

Before that gets you all warm and fuzzy, though, amireal's back again on that original post. She's noticed that the post has been linked on metafandom, and wants to make nice for the cameras admit something:

First to the toadstool I want to say that my original and what could almost be called slanderous attack at you was sadly... very calculated. My language and my poking at something that could be a personal attack and could be an attack at how I feel you operated in fandom was very specific.

But she's sorry, so it's okay now! Well, toadstoolsmiles has a response for that:

I didn't really feel all that mortified by your personal attack, as it was baseless and I knew it wasn't true. I apologise for missing your many layers of insult.

However, this nice detail doesn't get much attention from amireal, because toadstoolsmiles also noticed and commented on seperis's behavior and reaction to her. Can you believe the nerve of some people, realizing that other people are talking about them even when those people don't name names? Cue not just defensive remarks from seperis, but from amireal as well, though seperis's are better:

It wasn't a bash. A bash is when I use your name and link everyone to you for the sake of starting a flame war. Or you know, attacked you publicly. I didn't. You I know nothing about. You post pissed me off, but I told you that. Pretty thoroughly. I reiterated in my lj pretty much what I told you, locked it so I could vent out, and was done with it. You're absolutely welcome to it--I can email a copy, and since we share seven flist people, they can confirm it's exactly as posted. I can't unlock, for obvious reasons--comments on an flist post are made in the spirit that they're going to *stay* flocked.

Since it's bound to come up in comments: does this offer extend to letting us post it on F_W, as long as everybody's being fair and open about everything? We won't be doing it anonymously after all, and that's the important thing.

But seperis isn't quite finished with this topic yet:
