The word "pee-pee" - let's use the right term, people!
It's only a mini-wank, but it seems wanky enough to go right here rather than to [info]clairvoyantwank - you know, since the size of the wank shouldn't matter, just the motion of the...well, you get the idea.

More importantly, I thought we could all use some mommy wank that was actually fandom related and had nothing to do with boobies breastfeeding.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Nick Jr's Wonder Pets! - it's a show about three photo-puppeted classroom pets who go around the world helping baby animals in trouble. Examples include a baby pigeon stuck on the Statue of Liberty's nose, a baby elephant with his trunk stuck in the mud in the jungle, and a chimpanzee in space. Like many other children's shows, it's set to music, in this case, opera, and all the dialogue is sung. It has the requisite theme songs that kids will repeat ad nauseum and cutesy message about helping others in trouble.

The Wonder Pets have flown their flying boat past the Sphinx, the Swiss Alps, into outer space, and to Hawaii, but one baby animal in trouble has a less glamorous problem. It's a puppy stuck in the kitchen, and he needs to go outside to pee. As Ming-Ming would say, "This is serious!"

Parents on the Nick Jr message boards take issue with the fact that the word "pee-pee" was used in the episode, and all the tl;dr excerpts are behind the cut. Although some of the posts were back in March, people are still commenting through April, May, and June on the same issues.

There's a puppy who has to pee pee

PrincessKiara05
I agree with you, I myself did not approve of the choice of words, I was just talking to my sister about this because she has a 2 1/2 year old that watches this show. I do believe they could have used the word potty. I just think they should have chosen their words more carefully. My niece uses the word potty, not pee-pee and that is the way we would like to keep things and if this is what wonderpets is going to promote, my niece will no longer watch this show again, garunteed.

babiandtwin
Just to let you know I have seen this episode and also had a problem with it. I was disturbed with the whole episode in general but it really got to me when my 2 and 3 year olds started walking around singing pee pee wee wee tinkle in public. And to make matters worse, my kids were potty trained except for bedtime and now thanks to that episode my kids aren't. They want to go potty outside instead of in the potty and the 2 year old sings that stupid song and pees his pant about 4 times a day now.

The pee pee issue

lovebuggynikki03
I have to agree with all of you who don't agree with the pee pee issue. I have a 3 year old and my sister has a 5 month old, who ofcorse we all know dosent understand yet,but my 3 year old does. We are in the middle of potty training, and yeah we ask her if she needs to go pee.But for that to be on a childrens show is different. Some parents would rather refer to it as potty...or tinkle or other things. And even in my case where we use pee or pee pee, I don't feel it was right for it to be part of the show. I am not putting the show down.My daughter has set in front of it since the first show and knows the theme song!! Shell come running up to me"Mommy Mommy Wonder Pets are coming!" It's cute. But I think they need to use different wording and be more carfull..Remember these are 1-2-3-4-5 year olds watching not older kids.Lets use the right words!!!

Because, as you know, there is only one acceptable word for children to use to express the need to use the bathroom, and if I were going to pick the right word to use, it would definitely come from someone named lovebuggynikki03.

Pee-pee, wee-wee, tinkle (yes, that is the song that the trio sang at the end)

babiandtwin is back again to remind us of the horrible aftermath of this episode.
Not only did my 2 and 3 year olds start running around singing pee-pee wee-wee tinkle but they also stopped using the bathroom. They only want to go outside like that stupid dog. My 2 year old also has started wetting his pants about 4 times a day now and he was completely potty trained except for bed time. Now I have to start all over with his potty training. Thanks NickJr.

But wait! This show isn't just a horrible blemish on the face of children's programming because of the pee-pee issue. No, we also have gripes about the baby talk being used by one of the characters, Ming-Ming the duckling with guest appearances by expert preschool teachers and almost speech therapists.

Concerned parents are up in arms here, here (with caps lock o' rage and someone who dislikes when people use sarcasm to voice their opinion), here, and here, where mothers ask why LJ/SixApart is ignoring their concerns about breastfeeding if their concerns about Ming-Ming's inappropriate speech are being ignored. Bonus points to the parent who brings up Elmer Fudd and a short round of back and forth "these pseudo statistics say there is/isn't a problem here."

Since this is the diet version with 1/3 less wank, I bring you an e-version of those cheap chalky after dinner mints that accidentally get crushed under your car keys as you dig out your wallet with these two links, one to Wonder Pets will give children nightmares and the other to "Where are the daddies".

Well gee, maybe the puppy didn't say "potty" because dogs tend not to use potties, they just go outside and, you know, pee.

At least, that's the theory, my dog hasn't quite got her head around the "going outside" part of that yet.

While I am uncomfortable with this episode, as well as with the potty elmo's, potty picture books, and everything else that has to do with such a private function, I have learned to accept the possibility that I may be a little behind the times (aagh, I'm only 22!) or a little uptight (surprise to me and all those who know me), but really the only problem I can't blame on my own background is the final comment that the character makes about "celery is good after a good pee." sounds too much like "cigarettes are good after a good..." I thought it was WAY inappropriate.

Of course, there's no possible way that a 2 year old not being amazingly, giftedly potty trained has anything to do with circumstances outside a TV show he saw once or twice. Nope.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds it hard to believe that her kids abandoned their potty training only because of a cartoon dog. It reminds me of that Rugrats episode about the tree.

As for the other wanklet... I actually heard from a speech therapist (who also taught speech therapy) that television isn't considered a major influence on the speech development of children because they don't usually talk back to the T.V. Then again I didn't agree with everything she said even when I was in the class.

My kid did learn to say "Duh" from Ash Ketchum though. Heh

Dear Crazy Lady:

I "had to go tinkle", not "had to use the potty". All of this talk of using the potty has made me regress, and let me tell you they don't sell cute diapers for 20-year-olds! ;_;

Wow, yes, because young children NEVER emulate animals because they love to play pretend. When I ate grass because I wanted to be a unicorn? Totally TV's fault, not because I was a six-year-old with a good imagination.

This wank, and especially babiandtwin's comments, remind me of when my sister was a toddler. We bought my grandma a puppy as a Christmas present and were keeping it at our house for a couple days beforehand, so we set up newspaper on the floor. Next thing we knew my little sister came running into the living room totally naked. When my mom asked what happened to her diaper, she said she had taken it off so she could "teach the doggie how to pee on the paper." Indeed she had. We still make fun of her for it, which is highly embarrassing for a 15-year-old.

In short, kids wanting to pee outside like a dog is FUNNY and these parents are missing golden opportunities to accumulate humiliating stories to tell their kids' prom dates. Isn't that what being a parent is all about?

I was more disturbed by the Blue's Clues episode where Joe was singing about the joys of potty-training. Something about a grown-ass man singing about "pee" and "poo..."

As for the baby-talk issue, the same thing came up with Blue's Clues, and some "experts" decided that from now on, Blue would talk. Now there's Blue's Room, in which Blue sounds like an eight-year-old boy instead of the cute little girl puppy she was supposed to be.

Don't talk down to your kids, and they won't use baby talk. Isn't it that simple?

Oh, dear GOD. If you're such a misguided control freak that you're worried about what specific word your kids substitute for "urinate?" TURN OFF THE FUCKING TELEVISION. Seriously, "pee-pee" sets off the control freak in these parents? And not the ubiquitous character licensing on everything from junk food to overpriced t-shirts? The commercials aimed at infants? The commercials that masquerade as television shows for toddlers? Obviously I have my tinhat adjusted to a different frequency.

(Incidentally, my four-year-old daughter has come up with her very own word for fart: "poof." Nothing sends us all into giggles like my kid at the dinner table saying, "Mommy, I poofed!")

I was disturbed with the whole episode in general but it really got to me when my 2 and 3 year olds started walking around singing pee pee wee wee tinkle in public.

Lady, take my nieces out for a day. You'll be glad that's ALL your kids do in public.

I have nothing funny or insightful to add. I just want to say ZOMG WONDER PETS!!1! I've only seen a few episodes (ah, the joys of having an infant niece!), but holy shit, that is some good crack, yo.

One of the episodes I saw involved the rescue of a baby crane from a painting, which featured many informative tidbits about volcanoes. Like how they're filled with "this stuff called lava that's too hot to touch!"

I've recently finished potty training twins. We say pee. We say poop. We sing songs about it. Occasionally they brag about the size of the poop in question.

These people need to lighten up. Robert Munsch's I Have To Go! would make their prudish little heads explode. I can only imagine what they would make of me - it's one of my all time favourite picture books, and I read it to the kids as loudly as possible.

My niece uses the word potty, not pee-pee and that is the way we would like to keep things and if this is what wonderpets is going to promote, my niece will no longer watch this show again, garunteed.

I don't think outrage has ever been this paralyzingly funny. EVAR.

I know this is waaaay off topic, but as a child we lived my my gradmother. Everday she told me "don't let boys touch your boobies" as I left for school. This happened every school day from preschool till fourth grade. At that time I asked if I "should let the girls do it then?". I was grounded and had to ask a classmate to explain to me why I was grounded.

Come on folks, peeing is natural, worse things are happening to your children, like having asshats for parents.

And the sad bit is that the show-producers probably included the pee-pee bit as a responsible potty-training promotion tool.

I prefer kids' shows where people fall off cliffs.

And to make matters worse, my kids were potty trained except for bedtime and now thanks to that episode my kids aren't.

K. I have no idea how potty-trained the kids in question were, or how old that happens, blah blah blah, but:

If your kids were totally, 100% potty-trained, and then a TV episode about a puppy made them start pissing themselves all over the place ...

... I'm gonna say your kids aren't going to be physicists, here.
