Beating dead horsemeat
I'm not sure if baseball is really f_w material, but I've seen pro wrestling stuff here before, and this is exceptionally strange and wanky.

Clutch Hits is a baseball weblog. Someone posted a link to this bizarre story about a baseball player hitting a mascot in a sausage costume.

There's a bit of argument in the comments over whether this was funny or reprehensible, but the wank really starts when someone posts the following:

He HIT A TEENAGE GIRL WITH A BAT. It doesn't matter how "hard" he swung the thing. Doesn't matter where he hit her. Doesn't matter how badly she was hurt. A GROWN MAN HIT A TEENAGE GIRL WITH A BAT.

Baseball should suspend him for a very long time. The players' union should turn their back when asked to appeal.

Wank ensues as people point out that hitting non-teenage non-girls isn't any more acceptable.

	I saw the girl/young woman on CNN. She's not upset, said it was no big deal, and she won the race. The team is giving her an autographed bat. *puts on wanking hat* The whole "never hit a girl" concept is wanky to the extreme, anyway. Why do we have to single out one gender as more in need of being protected from errant fists (or baseball bats)? If we're going to champion the "not hitting people" cause, we ought to do it in a way that prohibits hitting ANYONE, regardless of gender, except in self-defense. Honestly, I'd rather take the blow than be treated like a weak, fragile flower because of my gender.

Yeah, the papers here (the guy was from this city) are all over it too. Thing is, the girl asked for the bat he used to hit her with his signature on it. And nobody is pressing charges.

If SHE doesn't care, STFU is all I can say to those people. Idjits.

Loved the headlines for these things, though... Wish I could've caught it on TV to see if the anchors can keep straight faces.

	Hee, yeah, it made me laugh too. I think what got me before was the fact that their team is the Pirates. "Pirates apologize for Simon's sausage attack" is my favorite, because it evokes pirates (the "Arrr!" kind, not the "We suck!" kind) at one end, and some kind of whacked ninja/Sailor Moon fighting technique at the other.
