On the webcomics blog Fleen, Kate Ditzler makes a post about the apparent glorification of rape in Girly.

PS: At 06.29.06 2:38 am, Scott Kurtz allegedly posts.

God, this just reminds me of how much I dislike that comic and how far from funny it actually is. I'm appalled that people are taking time to defend it, not because of the subject matter, but because of how banal it is.

I remember when it got pimped somewhere and I went to look at it, because it sounds like something I'd like. I couldn't get through three strips.

It's sad. I really like the art style, but the writing just makes me want to gag. Or sleep. Depends on the comic.

Word. Word word word to the nth. Everyone and their mother recced Girly to me, and when I read it I was like "...is this good? Dear lord, I cannot tell!"

Ooh, I just read a couple strips. Yikes. At first, I thought that I was reading a storyline backwards, because I started at the front page and just clicked 'previous', but...there's no storyline! So there's no excuse for the pure boring-ness of this comic! Eurgh.

I personally believe that you can make a joke about anything if it's, you know, funny and actually worth it. Too bad that doesn't apply at all to Girly.

At least he's gotten slightly better. I've read some of his older comics and they weren't much more than a strip of plot and attempts at humor over masturbation fantasies.

Man, I wonder what her reaction to Dan Kim's Tomoyo42's Room and Nana's Everyday Life would be.

I think Nana's Everyday Life is hilarious. I can't figure out why I think that, because it's not like I'm impossible to offend. But once I saw Elfen Lied and some of Gunslinger Girl and got the jokes I couldn't stop laughing.

Nana's Everyday Life

Is that also known as Mai-chan's Daily Life or am I thinking of something totally different?

(I also like Tomoyo42's Room, but sometimes it goes a little too far for me.)

I find it offensive. The faded tittypink ink and the tiny panels make me barely able to see the comic at all and totally unable to read it. It could be the instruction slip from a box of tampons for all I can tell.

Oh Girly. The really pathetic part is it's light years ahead in the sense-making than his first one. He needs a writer.

Don't stone me, but I actually like girly.
Don't get me wrong, I think parts of it are quite unfunny, and yes, the artist sometimes needs to get a writer. And sure, his earlier work is utter garbage.

On the other hand, I like it, because a guy(!) actually manages to be somewhat sensitive when displaying a f/f romance, and that's a good thing. There aren't so many f/f comics around, in the first place, either(well some, but with a less favorable portrayal or the "omg! Sorry, gotta leave town now, bye" excuse - mainly thanks to the fans flaming artists who include such characters, I guess, saw that before).

*shrug* Give me total quality yuri in comic form, and I will read that. Until then, I'll continue reading girly and giggle occassionally ^^

The wank? Seems quite stupid to me, to be honest. *shrug* Too much shouting from the author to begin with. One calm "no, it isn't, it is (...)" would have sufficed, really.

Same here. It's not great by any means, but it's fairly pretty to look at and it'll do until a good yuri comic comes along. If I could find a good artist, I'd love to do a webcomic webcomic myself.

I don't know why, but Josh Lesnick whining every time someone compares his art style to anime is strangely hillarious when Scott Kurtz is the one baiting him.

I'm not into it either. My friend keeps sending me links to it saying, "Isn't it funny? HA HA!" "Uh... not really." Like with this strip, I thought he killed the joke by continuing past the second panel.

I'm sorry dude, but if people think my style is anime then there's no way that you're escaping that generalization. Ever.
