Over at tffans.com, LoneDrifter asks Are there any female Transformer fans? Or is this a "Loch Ness Monster" type of myth? He apparently does not know who writes the bulk of the Mary Sues, the squeeing over favored characters, and the slash in this fandom.

People genially provide names of known Transformers fanfemales, post pictures of them as proof, and give personal anecdotes.

Lazerblast either brings the stupid or the sarcasm; I’m not sure: There's no such thing as female TFans. Ovaries are natural repellants to little plastic transferring robots.

HEADMASTER clearly brings the stupid: To those who have seen, been with, or is married to a female TF fan, thats great. But, I have to see one. But if I do, the reaction I would have would be similar to watching two cars hit each other RIGHT in front of you. Because we are like the wild, timid deer of the fandom.

UltimateTransfan shows who wears the pants armor in this fandom with this picture. Of course this is followed by speculation of whether she is naked in there.

Therosk makes no sense: couldn't help but think that meeting female TFans being a rare occurance as too out of place when meeting females would be pretty rare for some of u fullstop.M

And Shadow ES makes a good point:I don't really want to hook up with a female fan. I need someone in my life saying "You can only buy one, because we're going out to eat tonight" , not "Hey, get these other seven too!"

It’s frozen now, sadly, but it’s a fun (yet minorly sexist, according to some) peek at Transfandom’s fanboys.

The only parts that struck me as outright sexist where the broad claims about the nature of female fans being "fate" or "married." Then a few people with common sense wondered in.

I really don't know why fanboys stick to stereotypes and say women don't like [insert fandom] or the only ones who do are fat/ugly/lesbians.

Why?

Because those are just like the stereoypes that fanboys are fat, ugly, pathetic losers who live with their mother and never get laid. Do they want ME to believe those too?

What I think Therosk is trying to say is "Of course none of us has ever met a female Transformers fan; we're all too geeky to encounter girls."

And I guess Shadow ES has never met me... Well, OK, I'm not a Transformers fan specifically but I'm definitely a "Hey, let's buy the whole box set; there's money on the card for that and dinner..." type of gal. (Maybe I shouldn't be saying that like it's a good thing.)

I have absolutely no coherent response to this.

Except to share a story: I am a rather attractive girl. I like role playing.

One day, I found a store that sold roleplaying books and decided to venture in.

At one point, I swear to god I heard a needle scratch across the record as every fanboy stereotype possible was in the room and looked up at me. For about ten minutes no one moved, just stared at my friend and I while we looked at books.

Finally, someone saw the books I had in hand and started to ask me how I liked the system. I started to mention that I had never played before. And he kept asking me how I liked the system.

I paid and ran out with my friend in tow.

Yes fanboys, there are very hot girls in your fandoms/geeky hobbies. But we do not venture into your sausage dens because most of you do not know how to socialize with the opposite sex.

That sounds familiar. I once nearly got ejected from a Comic Mart because the folks on the door thought I'd come to the wrong place and wanted the Scout Shop next door. And then there was the sales assistant in the media shop who looked down his nose at my choice of tape and said "You do know it's in Chinese, don't you?" And I said; "Yes, that's why I chose it." "Oh," says he, sneering, "do you speak Chinese?" "No," says I, "but I would rather have the subtitles and the real voices of the actors than have to put up with some phoney-baloney American pretending to be Andy Lau or Chow Yun-Fat."

I object to the assumption that a woman in a mostly-male fannish environment is either there by mistake or likely to need masculine guidance with her purchase - especially since I was doing this before most of these geeks were born.

Being a regular customer is even worse. Somehow, despite the fact that you've been buying your stuff from there for years, they are sure you have NO idea what you're talking about. Every time I buy something that's been out for more than a week, I get something like this:

"Are you sure you want to buy Oracle of Seasons?"

"Yes, that's why I asked for it in the first place."

"It's a pretty old game..."

"I KNOW. It's on the GBC. What'd ya' expect?"

"Are you aware that the DS is only backwards compatible for GBA games?"

"Yes, I frickin' KNOW, okay? I know what I'm buying here."

"I think you would make a better purchase with the Minnish Cap instead..."

"Look, here's the God dammed money. If you shut up and get me my copy of Oracle of Seasons right now, I'll even let you keep the two bucks in change, okay?"

"Are you sure you have the proper system to play this game?"

"ARRRRRGH!"

I made the mistake of wearing a fairly tight tank top into a comic shop once. While my face may not be much to look at, I do have pretty decent breasts. I'm sure you can guess how that went.

Never again. I've made it a rule that if I'm gonna be going to a comic book store that day, I'm wearing the baggiest, most form concealing shirt I own.

But the real reason we never stayed for very long was the smell :X
