"Talk to my GPA fuckers" or "Fandom: porn and ignorance, but no minty aftertaste!"
Over on LJ, [info]la_folle_allure posts a rant. What's it about, you may ask? Well of course, it's her Problems With Fandom!

[info]la_folle_allure thinks that people in fandom are dirty liars! Why, they say they want feedback, but really what they mean is:

"I want GOOD feedback that praises me and absolutely does not point out any flaws there might be in this piece".

Not only are they dirty liars, but they're deceiving themselves:

Bad!fic might be fun to read, but I’m just astounded that some people post art/fics that are so poorly written and outlined that if it was an actor, it would make Paris Hilton look like Meryl Streep. Are some people so delusional that they can post a Mary Sue that is completely devoid of any remote plot or creativity or take the established characters and make them so OOC that they might as well be OC’s?

Oh, [info]la_folle_allure, tell us something we don't already know.

And she does! Guess what she wants? She wants standards:

There should be a standard to uphold in fandom- spelling, grammar, characterization the usual. Now granted, not everyone can be Kurt Vonnegut or Douglas Adams, I’m not trying to say ban all the mediocre to sub-par writers or artists because improvement can always be achieved, but sometimes you just have to know where to stop.

But how will we know where that point is? How? Will there be fandom SATs, and only if you score high enough, will you be allowed to write fic?

Goodness knows, [info]la_folle_allure knows all about standards and good writing! Lo and behold, she explains:

With this being said, why don't I leave ConCrit? Because once upon a time I did and low and behold, I was chewed out by flists and the authors claiming that apparently *I* was the one that didn't have any taste. Oh, I'm sorry, apparently being an English major in the top university in Canada has made me blind to *obviously* brilliant fic or art and *I* have no knowledge of what *true* literary or artistic ability is. Talk to my GPA fuckers. I personally feel the greatest thing about the Internet is being able to express your opinion and having it shot down and written off as blaze or wrong. Thank's for the close-mindedness and flist inbreeding. I know for a fact that when the Internet's original purpose was to store porn and enforce ignorance. Amazing how fandom manages to do the same thing, but without that minty aftertaste.

It *is* amazing, isn't it? I had no idea that a certain GPA enables you to recognize *obviously* brilliant fic. Of course, I didn't go to the top university in Canada, so that pretty much explains it.

Recs are shit:

Now, someone mentioned rec’s and the greatness of how recs cut out all the BS fic or art and give you the PURE source of great writing. This might be personal, but I can't fucking stand to see a piece of fic or art recced EVERYWHERE that doesn't deserve it. I know that might seem cruel or mean in a way, but really people, a LOT of the shit that is recced is so obviously fucking recced because the reccer is friends with the writer/artist/musician. As much as we would like to delude ourselves into believing, not ever fucking gem a person pops out is certified platinum.

Wait. Are gems ever platinum? Okay, sorry, digression. Remember, you should only rec things that [info]la_folle_allure thinks are worthy! Otherwise they are shit, shit, SHIT! And you only recced it because you're friends with the the creator! SHIT!

Hate memes speak the REAL HARSH TRUTH:

spn_hate PROVED to us that honest feedback wasn't wanted. I honestly found it so fucking laughable that people, for ONCE were being completely open and honest and even though the wank targeted certain people who may or may not have deserved it, these feelings were mutually felt by almost EVERYONE, yet still, where are the wankers when it comes time for ConCrit? Hiding, because as the wank proved, if you critique one person, ten more will JUMP to that person's defense... What makes me laugh though, is even after spn_hate happened, even after opinions were shared, certain people publicly STATED how they weren't going to change even though an entire fandom basically told them too. For serious, what the fuck? It's like, NEWS FLASH: YOU ARE A HORRIBLE WRITER OR ARTIST, but no, IGNORE that and KEEP on proving to the world that you're incredible, that your work is so important it's not only saving fandom, but BETTERING it.

Yes, everyone in the fandom shares the opinions of an anonymous few on a hatememe. Okay, I guess that's what you learn in the top university in Canada. Also, you learn that you should take the opinion of an anonymous few to heart, and DO WHAT THEY TELL YOU, OR YOUR HORRIBLE FIC WILL STAY HORRIBLE! Because, of course, anonymous people on a hatememe are the best critics you could ever find, right? Again, something that must be taught in the top university in Canada: "If someone is too much of a pussy to own their opinion, it means they must be right!"

Welcome to reality ‘wanker’ wankers, no one is perfect, leave the opinions, do not feel you have to insult a person’s opinion, TAKE the fucking comments and IMPROVE.

Er. "wanker" wankers? Is that like a "clacker clacker" joke? Oh, well. No one is perfect.

Fuck, I can't even begin to express just how much I truly fucking hate some people in fandom.

Perhaps you should start a hatememe then?

Fans ruin fandom and we all know this.

If we didn't before, we sure do now!

Now, even though [info]la_folle_allure declared her intention not to respond to any comments, she still gets lots of agreement and amens! from her audience, although some people do take issue with the standards in fandom idea.</a> [info]tzikeh points out that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, but it's not received very well.

And a wanky time was had by all!

ETA: Aw, she flocked the entry. Why deprive us of our fun, 'wanker' wanker?
