When the Pokemon fandom wanks, it wanks BIG TIME.
Background: 4Kids, the Bane of Our Existence (see the American One Piece dub for details), doesn't want Pokemon anymore. Pokemon was recently given to Pokemon USA, PUSA for short, and now they handle anything Pokemon in the US from dubbing to marketing. Then PUSA announces that they changed all the voice actors and will broadcast the Mastermind of Pokemon special to see what the audience thinks. A group of people who are completely appalled by this idea forms the Save Our Voice Actors (SOVA) organization. They send letters and paper cranes the whole month, hoping it'll change PUSA's mind. Of course, it doesn't help much. One month later, they broadcast Mastermind. The voices reek. The audience hates it. The Internet explodes.

Flash forward to July 20th, 2006. PUSA holds a panel in San Diego's Comic-Con with the new VA of Brock and the new-new VA of Ash (PUSA says they weren't happy with the old new VA's performance. Neither were we, PUSA, neither were we). They screen a re-dubbed version of the first ten minutes of Mastermind. The voices are a lot better. The audience approves, for the most part. SOVA still isn't please. They don't want replacements, they want the original VAs. Though now they know they can't change the voices for season 9, they're trying their hardest to do something so PUSA will hire the old actors back for season 10. Recently, one of the members of SOVA suggested to take the organization's issues to a talk show, and the others think it's a great idea. The organization receives a huge blow when the gadfly, their guru of sorts, breaks the news and tells them that SOVA is a lost cause. The SOVA people proceed to mourn and glare at Water Pokemon Master, a rather famous figure in the Pokemon fandom who antagonized the group throughout its existence and whose source inside PUSA contacted the gadfly. Nevermind the source did it on its own, without WPM's involvement.

WPM has had enough, and he opens a thread to discuss the issue of SOVA and the attempts to save the old VAs. He wishes to show SOVA the wrongness of its ways, and this is what he says:

Alright, so recently, SOVA wants to go on to live television and write into newspapers and magazines, telling the world of how a few Pokemon voice actors have been replaced. They want to go on to such shows as the Today Show, speaking to NY and the world on how the Pokemon voice actors were replaced. As if this will actually happen, but does anyone think this is the wrong way of going about the situation? They haven't even TALKED to PUSA, yet they are going to attempt to go on to live television and into newspapers and talk blatantly, without knowing the facts, for everyone. It does not even seem like they even understand the situation, yet they are going to go and make sure that other people know that the evil Pokemon USA took the jobs of voice acting away from the innocent 4Kids VAs, when that is not even the case. SOVA's members appear to have a deep liking for the old VAs and do not want them to change, but does this cause them to be blind and to avoid what is actually going on?

I have been keeping up with the SOVA thread from Day 1, when I was an actual supporter, but now that I understand the situation, it seems that SOVA is on the wrong side, and NO ONE is trying to forcefully show them that. I have tried, but failed many times to knock some sense into the campaign, but it doesn't seem like anyone in the SOVA campaign wants to listen to any voice of reasoning. They just want to go out into the world, make Pokemon fans look like utter fools, and talk for all of us. Now of course, even I will admit that SOVA seemed to have a good shot in the very, very, very beginning, but once PUSA took over, it almost became 100% apparent that it was lost. So why are they continuing this campaign? Is it because of personal reasons? Is it because they feel this is "their call?" No one seems to know why, and it would be interesting to hear what SOVA has to say about this question.

And indeed, the fandom explodes. This thread was prone to wank anyway, considering how wanky the subject is.

At first everyone agrees with WPM, and gives PUSA encouraging words. Wank starts to raise its ugly rear (yes, its ugly rear. Wank sees through its butt, don'tcha know) around page four, when SOVA is frustrated with WPM antagonizing them, WPM is frustrated because they don't understand that SOVA is a lost 'cause, and modly figure Barb is frustrated because WPM thinks SOVA should do everything he says. But that's miniwank compared to what happens next, in page six, when Maddie Blaustein, Meowth's old VA, joins in the fun! The wankery continues for 19 pages and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Oh, I like the Pokemon fandom. So chaotic.
