It's time to go...
Rove McManus is an Australian night-time talk show host who regularly invites the evicted Australian Big Brother contestants onto his show and makes sweet, sweet fun of them before they spiral into obscurity. The finale of the show was on Monday, and the totally wrong winner was announced. Last night, Rove brought the entire cast of famewhores back for the last of their 15 minutes. He again made with the sporking - some of it teetering towards the nasty side.

Enter [info]thisisfliss, who posts an overlong rant in the Australian Big Brother community about how unecessary it all was. She has something of a tl;dr point, and though there are a few LOL SRS BZNZ type responses, the fun doesn't start until [info]aphobian appears.

It begins as the usual GETALIFE trolling, but quickly descends into cracks about weight, um, horse-porn, and a self-defense that includes the sentence: Yesterday I was working on a defence to a defamation suit brought by the prime minister of singapore that has bankrupted the opposition leader so that he has to rely on shonky pro bono lawyers who pass on the hard work to law students like me.

Ebbeh?

Sadly, apart from the total OT nature of that statement, considering the state of oppostion politics in my country (read: nil), that isn't too far from the truth. Because Singapore is basically a one party country. However, that doesn't mean that the person who posted that is nothing less than a pretentious show-offy little git.

Still though - the only good thing to have come out of BB Australia has been Blair. And that's only cause he's semi-pretty. *is so shallow*

The law kid better watch his step. She failed to capitalize 'prime minister of singapore'. For all we know, she may be getting sued for defamation this very instant.

Or maybe the government's crafting a new law to jail commenters that evokes Teh_Government. Like the bloggers.

Pray for your soul, o' young hardworking law kid.

Ben was such a sweetheart, though!

Er. I think. Bearing in mind I've watched a total of ten episodes out of the whole series.

:\ No no, I think I remember him. He was on BB when it was still interesting though! Now I hardly ever glance at it. My last viewing of it was a little of last year's series because the runner up was from my uni. I guess I was really bored XD

He won! And stupid Sarah-Marie didn't. This pleased me.

It also amused the hell out of me that Blair jumped into Ben's lap when they announced the winner. :D

Oh yeah I remember that! Good times, good times - that was when BB was still entertaining! Heh. I still remember Marty and his stockwhip that he brandished when he came out of the house. Rawr.

Eh. None of the peoplesuedfordefamationsuits are in any sense the 'opposition leader'. Closest you can get is Chiam or the current WP people, and last I heard, SDA's having some internal problems. Don't think JBJ or CSJ count as opposition leaders (and the latter is just completely nuts, and that's being generous). I suppose you could call the current WP leaders the 'opposition leaders', with what, all of...one constituency seat, and one non-constituency seat. I mean, that's two. It's a majority among the opposition. Compared to. One.

Technically, not one-party, dominant-party, and opposition politics is effectively nil because the opposition's also mostly incompetent with either no policies of any worth (the various 'democrat' parties) or economically ridiculous (WP).

God I hate Rove. He's so dull, and he's whole 'Oh, I'm not gay, I'm not gay' type jokes rub my nerves, no I know you aren't dickwad, stop already.

And I know I should feel sorry for him because of his wife and her woman's magazine cover fight with cancer, but not so much.

Bring back Andrew Denton any day. (oh right, he's gone to the ABC, and he's entertaining).

Rove was good when he was guesting on Good News Week, but after they removed his personality and made him completely ineffectual, he became really boring. I haven't watched Rove in years (I haven't watched BB since series 2 either, so it's no big loss).

Agreed. Rove is so distasteful to watch, the way he fawns over his guests and is completely unfunny. That little stand-up section is well placed at the start of the show because it is a perfect reminder to me to OMG CHANGE CHANNEL QUICK OMG.

Meh, the last episode I watched was a couple of years ago, but it was the one where he did that interview with Carson from Queer Eye.

I still think that nothing can top that episode.

So I wonder if those jokes have anything to do with that....

He was a television host for the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, and kept making lame jokes and ending it with some variation of 'but I'm not gay'

It got very old fast.

Back when I worked in legal offices I worked for (and with) some utter sleazeballs but there's no way I'd reveal the details. We had a little thing called 'client confidentiality', which is supposedly one of the first things you learn in law school.

I'm not predicting a particularly bright future for this 'hard working student' if s/he hasn't even figured that one out.

Rove is entirely unfunny and in very poor taste. Has been for ages, IMO. Someone seriously needs to stick a pin in that man's inflated head.

Sean Micallef FTW.

I used to be a big punter in the Melbourne comedy scene (back when it still was a scene and was good. Cheeseshop, anyone?)

Anyway, one year at a Planet Chrissy show, Miss Itchy decided to pass out Christmas gifts to the local acts.

They got Rove (who didn't even bother to show) a pink ostrich, to be his new co-host, and it brought the house down.

I believe that says it all.

And I agree with Jamie being the wrong winner - he annoyed me so much, but if Camilla won, everyone would be going, "sympathy vote".
