Wank convergence, courtesy of our pal Lee.
Found this via a mousey tip on wank_report. First time posting, be gentle plz. It's not really a wanky entry per se - only 10 comments - but it so perfectly merges a couple of recent wank themes I just had to bring it to y'all's attention.

Our old pal Lee Goldberg of the recent fanfic be EEEVIL wank, has found out about The Harlan Ellison Worldcon Gropage Incident and felt compelled to weigh in on it with a blog posting, which includes dishy anecdotes about what a douchebag Harlan is, not only in general, but to Our Man Lee specifically. It's hard to know who to root for here, folks.

Only 10 comments at Lee's blog - remember, good wankas don't - but they're cherce, complete with amens ("Harlan Ellison has always thought it witty to exhibit a streak of casual cruelty toward others, even his friends"), HE apologia ("He and Connie were doing an act, and Harlan took it too far"), Taking It Personally ("Even if she didn't mind it, I and other women do"), rambling discursions on vintage radio shows ("Somewhere I think I may still have a tape of that broadcast"), and oh yes, a post busting Lee's chops for misstating basic factual information in his post ("Lee, just a quick correction...").

Oh, and Lee references having seen one of the famous HE writing in a bookstore window incidents, but seems to have no idea of what he was doing there (creating a short story from scratch off an audience suggestion), or that he is in fact famous for it. Dweeb.

I do find it rather funny that the only reason I know who Lee Goldberg is is through his wanking. I'm not really a modern sf fan:-)

Fifty plus years, and still causing wank werever he goes. Ellison deserves some kind of lifetime acheivement award in fandom wank. He's picked fights with Gene Roddenberry, George Lucas, his own fans, Oreos, and it looks like he's still going strong.

And I'll side with him of Lee Goldberg any day. Go Harlan!

They were discussing the new TV series version of THE TWILIGHT ZONE, which Harlan briefly wrote for. One of the guests who was criticizing the show was a woman who may, or may not, have been an old girlfriend of Harlan's. I don't know. But some listener called in saying that the only reason she was trashing the show was because Harlan kicked her out of his bed. The caller identified himself as "Lee." The host hung up on the guy. ... Harlan grabbed the microphone, said the caller was Lee Goldberg, and went on to trash me as a sleazy, lying, scumbag masquerading as a journalist.

Of course, the caller wasn't me.

What a TWEEST!

It's Judgement Day, guys. The wanks are aligning in the heavens and soon Great Cthulhu will awaken and remake the world in fire and blood. At least, I hope so.

As funny as it is to watch Lee fap away about the evils of fanfic, I mostly think he's an okay guy, and agree with him on other things (don't hit!). Harlan's done some great work, but that doesn't excuse troglodytism.

Now I want this scene horribly illustrated by Rob Liefeld and shrilly decried by Ginmar.

Maybe it's just me and I'll concede that I just woke up* and I haven't had coffee this morning but this paragraph took several readings before I figured out Lee hadn't changed genders about the caller. It didn't read very clear to me the first several times through. huh...

And of course, by the time this made its way to Lee Goldberg's blog, it wasn't "Harlan Ellison gropes Connie Willis", but "Harlan Ellison gropes 'a woman'". It's telling that Lee had to point out to a commenter that Connie was the one receiving the affair.
It's even more telling that he didn't bother to mention it, or Connie by name, in his original entry.

I've decided to stay away from Lee Goldberg's blog. The urge to tell him off is hard to resist. I'm staying out of it, but they're both wankers. Harlan has cred and talent, though. That's something Lee lacks big time.

I don't get those people on Lee Goldberg's blog who downplay the whole thing with "it's not even a real grope..." even after watching that vid. I must be really conservative about personal space coz I would've totally elbowed anyone who did that, man or woman. It would've been partly kneejerk partly indignation plus a side of "you creep"!

I know I'm only supposed to wank and not get all upset about wanks,but can't help myself.

...the "post busting Lee's chops for misstating basic factual information in his post" was, in all fairness, correcting me (Ron Hogan) by extension, since I wrote the item he used as his source material. More to the point, it was a faulty correction; I (and by extension Lee) had the story right the first time.
