Branching into new fandoms
Ah, the sweet smell of Smallville wank in the morning.

I'm a writer, and I love to write. And write and write and write and write. I love writing so much, in fact, that I often take up whole pages with meaningless and self-aggrandizing exposition just to say something as simple as "Why can't we all just get along?" and "I have an idea: and it's [this]."

Did I mention I love to write? I can never get enough of the sound of my own fingers typing. Type type type! Type like the wind! Also, did I mention it's all about me?

And if you didn't get enough of me, me, me and my writing in the entry, I go on for hours and hours in the comments. There's plenty of my words to go around!

Seriously, forget the main post, did you see the comments? They are just ... endless, aren't they? No wonder no one can wade through the rules and actually vote in the thing, whatever it's supposed to be.

I have to admit that I skimmed. A lot. And what I did read made my eyes glaze over. Blahhhhhh.

(And of course, the writer in me is going, "OMIT NEEDLESS SHIT." ...which people don't seem to do anymore. What gives?)

So has there been a big kerfluffle over the awards? I remember a post on fandom_wank about the wankiness of the awards but I don't remember any heat over it.

Are Smallville folk imagining their flame wars now? Too many hits over the head with fandom_wank? If there has been all sorts of nastiness over this, I'm v. disappointed in our Smallville contingent for not drawing our attention to it earlier.

There have been no kerfuffles that I've noticed.

People had their very polite says for and against the awards when they started and then basically ignored them (or participated, although there have been noises that no one's been voting. But how can they? The rules are just as, if not more, convoluted than the meta we see here.)

It's all been shockingly mature, but SV is a unique fandom in the way that it often uses stony silence as its slap with a dead fish upside the head of fandom irritants, instead of shrieking wank.

Although I'm sure the locked chatrooms must be a fascinating place. In fact, I know they are. *giggling*

Sorry, but compared to those HP maniacs, we're a freakin' tea party, with only a small vial of arsenic hidden under the chair for emergencies.

If frosty cold silence is "mean", then yeah, SV can be mean, but we are sorely lacking in the hysterical, loudass kill-you-at-the-con wanking.

Of course, our blithering egomaniacal meta (see above) has been occasionally known to kill small animals and drive epileptics insane ... but that's accidental. I think.

There's mean and then there's CRAY-ZAY! True, SV BNFs don't threaten to kill, er, I mean write parodies about other fen, but that's just because only certain kinds of people meet the qualifications to be "true" Smallville fans.

Oh, I feel the frozen meanness howling across the frigid tundra that is Smallville fandom during summer hiatus ::wind whistles fiercely:: I'm cold, so cold. Maybe I should bash that diva Manwhore Rosenbaum? Flamewars keep my evil soul warm.

Oh, there was plenty of heat. just follow this links provided in this F_W post. Also, [info]misswindy responded by creating The SV Sound and Fury awards, with categories that include "Best Genderfucking of Male Character By Inexplicably Turning Him Into a Whiny, Clingy Bitch" and "Fic With Unconventional Pairing Most Likely to Induce Projectile Vomiting." I nominated myself for "Best SV Flame War Arsonist" and "Most Clever Fandom Slang/ Fanon Generator."

Remember, SV is the meanest fandom. Cheers!
