GET OUT NOW!!
(Moved from [info]otf_wank.)

I'm surprised there isn't more World of Warcraft wank here. I guess all that stays in their forums - in the cesspool.

Unfortunately the bit of wank I have for you here is incomplete. I had to leave for the evening, and when I'd come back it had been deleted. Despite this, I thought it was still worth sharing. I took screencaps of the entire second page - which was all I could get to with my back button - and that has most of it. I believe it only just got into the third page when it was removed.

ETA: This was actually in the Suggestions forum.

The first post basically went like this - the OP urged everyone to quit World of Warcraft while they could, before it became an addiction they couldn't get away from. She linked or quoted from some site that had said that 40% of WoW players are addicted. 40%!! (Am I in that 40%...?)

Apparently this offended one of the player mods. (I guess we can call them Greens? If Blizzard GMs are "Blue." They're the forum's version of a hall monitor, which is why he gets the green text and the animated ravasaur icon.) Anyway, most of it is them bickering back and forth with a few others thrown in.

Here's the second page of comments in its entirety. I apologize for not being able to offer you the first one.

part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7, part 8, part 9, part 10, part 11, part 12, part 13, part 14, part 15, part 16

WoW is a drug, people. A DRUG.

Oh, Palehoof. I have no clue how s/he made MVP, every time I see that person in a thread it's always wank and it's always tl;dr. Last time it was how the Christians stole all the Pagan holidays.

You can have 'em back, I'm kinda tired of most of them. Except Christmas. Can we share Christmas?

The wank was funny and all, but...

Heck, one of my closest friends lost her job and destroyed a bunch of her friendships (including mine) because she was addicted to WoW.

I used to go around saying "Some players have problems, it's not the game's fault," but after seeing the effect of WoW on so many people that I've known, I'm seriously starting to wonder if... Well, I don't know exactly what I'm wondering, but I do know that you will never get me to play that game.

Meh, World of Warcarft. You can keep you poncey elves and knights and stuff. I've got spandex and pseudo-Nazis over in City of Heroes. And sixty million alts, too.

MMORPGs, addictive? Naaaah...

I'm still really, really, really into Warcraft (I even started writing horrible, horrible fanfiction, which is something I rarely ever do for ANYTHING) -- here's an image of my character: http://www.kurai.com/euls.jpg

If you play WoW, you'll note all the raiding gear XD I had to leave my raiding guild because I've started graduate school and can't commit to the raiding schedule anymore, but for a while there I was pretty firmly ensconced in the game. I still am, but it's to a lesser extent, since I have so much else that needs to be done. But I think one of the posts you capped was right on -- if it wasn't WoW, people would be using something else to fill their time instead of working on the things that are important. If we share one disease in common, it's procrastination.

Every third thread on WOW forums is wank or is intended to cause wank but drops off the main page too quickly. True Story.

I'll echo the other sentiments of no-doubt WoW players on here: Only 40%?

Although, there was that (if I recall correctly) case of a Korean couple that got so into WoW that they let their baby die of malnutrition. O_o*

"When someone gets your goat, are you angry to have been deprived of the barnyard animal?"
That kills me!

I've got friends who play responsibly, and friends who play to the exclusion of everything else except work and a couple hours of sleep. The ones who play constantly use it to replace actual social interaction (face to face, I mean.) Which was kind of okay by me for a while, because when there was face to face chat, it was about WoW.

Not to mention the imitations of the sounds Merlocks(?) make, coming from the back bedroom. Scaaaary.

God, I am so glad I have never been tempted to buy any of these games. My e-wrestling addiction from 1996-98 was bad enough, as was the time I got into FurryMUCK. If I tried something like this with pretty 3D graphics, I'd forget to breathe.
