Twilight fandom dramatic departures

[info]moonlit_diva
The ever wanky Twilight fandom has finally exploded.

It stared off with the usual batch of hate secrets which no one really looks twice at anymore, but then things heated up when [info]inksplotched made an disgustingly attention whoring announcement of her departure from the fandom and her crony [info]__dittany followed her shortly.

The anons did not approve.

As if that wasn't obnoxious enough, they two of them proceeded to STICK AROUND and wank even harder at various anons.

But that is not all. She was then echoed by [info]fallenmelody in her spazzy announcement.

Some of [info]inksplotched's cronies jumped into the wank and made total asses of themselves, as can be seen in the comments I linked to.

ETA: Many of the secrets occurred because of now deleted wank which took place in [info]sortofbeautiful when [info]aromarcuscaius created the community [info]realtw_secret. This community annoucement set off a bucket-load of wank when anons starting going off on the [info]ontd_twilight mods for what may or may not be accurate accusations of assholery and god-modding.

ETA 2: Please see secrets number 9, 43, and 50 to see what started her off on her diatribe (#50 refers to a friendship community she apparently runs with her friends).

ETA 3: And also note the explosion of [info]ontd_twatlight. They seem to be twatting all over the secrets, in the anons, and have several long comment threads ([info]foutu aka the shining star/twat/anus of the Twilight fandom also made an appearance.)

Fail mods are failing

[info]sepiamagpie
Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Anyway, you got today instead.

Stop anticipating things, we'll just break your hearts.

Sincerely,

Sepia P. Magpie, Esq.

PS: Use this post to reflect on how you could be better people. Or just fuck around in the comments.

Hmmm, what's the date again?

[info]snacky
As you all know, we've had a lot of n00bs join [info]fandom_wank recently, and we've been suffering some growing pains. Once again, we urge you to read our user info and learn about the rules and how to contact the mods and all the non-fun business.

Since we have so many new baby wankas, we need some help gently reminding the young ones (and some not so young ones) of the rules. We want you to be the FW Nannies, and help us guide our sweet n00bs through this harsh, wanky world. So, if you see any of the following things:

thoughts on yaoi
out of control boobie trains
excessive posting of recipes
unfunny macros
wank reenactment in the comments
trolling, trollbaiting, trollbiting, trip-trapping across my bridge
any random breaking of actual rules

please, feel free to use the comments of this post to tattle report to us. We've set up a new community for our baby wankas, [info]fw_timeout to spend some time, if they are caught. Make sure you join!

Remember, this will make us a stronger community!

Trimming Down Toll Secrets at F_S

[info]criticalcricket
Fandomsecrets's mod Technophile makes an announcement about other communities trolling Fandomsecrets and posting fake secrets. It initially came with a link to the Capslock Supernatural Comm with a specific tag for Fandom secrets. The link has since been deleted but here's a screencap.

Called on their game, the capslock_spn-ers turn out en mouse to try and show how cool and easygoing they're taking this whole thing. They give anyone who calls them stupid or attempts to apologize on Supernatural Fandom's behalf a beat down and otherwise generally troll the comments.

Being embarrassed by your fandom makes you stuck up.
Calling the capslock_spn-ers dumb makes you dumb.
Witchling's apology on behalf of fandom earns her a smackdown.
And into the fray jumps Jameth....I dunno, your guess is as good as mine.

Technophile pops back up on the fifth page to comment on the continued presence of the trolls and gets grilled on the decision to moderate the secrets posted into his own community. Tianar expresses her rage with mighty capslocks. ashe_frost calls technophile out on his modding skills.

And in the midst of it all Capslock_spn turns off open membership to stave off the flood of potential new members and keep things manageable they say.

Slash is hot, but homos suck! ... wait.

[info]solle
Someone posts glorious wankbait on fandomsecrets (#75, with the catchy color scheme). The text: "YAOI fangirl IRL homophobe. I am both and I don't think it's so bad. Is it a crime now to separate fandom from religion and reality?"

Some call troll. Most proceed to wank like their plane is going down.

Highlights... )

Comes with bonus illustrated summary starring Larxene!

But I thought Ronon was Polynesian??

[info]lasha
Mini meta wank.

SGA fandom is race wanking - yes, again. This time it started with a review Cesperanza wrote about last week's SGA episode, "Midway," aka the Teal'c and Ronon duke it out ep.  Ces says:

"this ep is going in the waste bin, because, I'm sorry, I am TOTALLY UNAMUSED by the Ronon/Teal'c fight. I think its humiliating, and treats the characters like animals, and I'm horrified at the betting, like it's--what--a cockfight? And to me it's racialized and repulsive: I was typing to Linabean: REPULSED REPULSED REPULSED and that about covers it. I'm absolutely repulsed. I don't care if it's supposed to be a showdown like Batman vs. Superman or the Hulk vs. Thing or whatever--fact is, you had two black men beating the shit out of each other and drawing the largest crowd we've ever seen on Atlantis thus far. And like, this thing of "Ronon and Teal'c have so much in common"--they DO NOT. THEY REALLY DO NOT. They are two men with darker skin than the rest of the cast, but Teal'c is overwhelmingly gentlemanly, and they were portraying Ronon like a beast, though he totally is NOT a beast, and just--WHAT THE FUCK, SGA, SERIOUSLY."

People come by, agree and discuss.  Some DON'T (and LiviaPenn gets involved).

Then, ZZanthalinn stops by to say that Jason Momoa is Polynesian, not black, hence Ronon is too? HERE. More of Momoa is Hawaiian thread.

However, Anonymous is just "pissed off" about the fight after reading Cesperanza's review.

In which a gunpla nut has a Randy Marsh moment.

[info]allenwalker
Ah, [info]gundam00. A place where the gay mecha porn lovers of livejournal can unite and burble about stupid sexy Lockon in ~~*peace and harmony*~~! Right? RIGHT? Well, you're wrong!

Mod [info]bucue posts a poll asking the members who their favorite Gundam meister is, and all seems to be going swimmingly. [info]arsons makes a comment to another user, and our oh-so-gracious mod gives her a warning -- not because she said anything inflammatory, but because her icon just happens to contain the N-word.

And things just go downhill from there.

The post is locked to members only, but I managed to save the post here. Will edit with relevant threads in a bit!

High School Musical wank

[info]mmanurere
Over on LJ's idontdance community, devoted to (apparently) a High School Musical slash couple, the mods post to ask people to please avoid making potentially racist remarks regarding the hair of one of the two characters involved.

Predictably, the wank is started in the first comment by [info]killerspork33, who takes every possible opportunity to point out that s/h/it knows a white person with hair like that!, and goes on to contribute half the comments and 80% of the point-missing and general wankery to the post as a whole.

Fortunately for the lulz-to-serious ratio of the wank, it's not all standard racism wank -- we have [info]alethalia wanking about how edgy and un-PC s/h/it is and how the mods are being oppressive and are suppressing s/h/it's speech.

[info]headachehead wanks over use of the word "retarded" as a generalized insult, is offended at being called immature, and complains about being disrespected for "having a sense of humor."

Small in terms of comment-count, but efficiently packaged. Now that it's hit metafandom in a comment, it might even expand.

"Well, unless you find lawyers sinister"

[info]cleolinda
I really apologize for this--it really is starting to get ridiculous, the number of entries. If people are really, truly sick of Lexicon wank or want to boot it into the Cornfield, let me know.

In case you missed, uh, ETAs 6-8:

RDR spokesman writes to the Terminus 2008 staff.

A PDF file of the actual filed complaint.

elanor_isolda counters several of the allegations. ([info]sententia brings up an interesting point re: Elanor's entry: "Taking the Lexicon completely out of the equation, Warners/Rowling thought that the material was obviously fine when it was published (word for word) by someone else [the plagiarism alleged by Elanor regarding another book on Amazon] otherwise they would have sued them/served them with a C&C order, so why should they sue when Steve uses those exact same words? I find that bit a little weird.")

New: SVA updates the the Lexicon's What's New page. "NOTE: I know that many people (waves to the JournalFen crowd) are seeing conspiracy here with the comments gone, but to be frank, it’s nothing sinister. Well, unless you find lawyers sinister." I'm not going to make the obvious joke on that one.

WatchThatPage tells me that something's different about the RDR Books Lexicon page, and it cites this section: Read more... )

Can anyone tell if any of it is really different, in the interest of equal time?

Note: So many fan reactions are following the Snacky Template that I don't intend to link to anymore unless there's something really spectacular. That said, you can always discuss anything you find in the comments.

ETA: Since it's just not HP wank without accusations of plagiarism, the Hannah Abbott entries she mentioned are very interesting compared side-by-side. Images )

ETA 2: From [info]white_serpent: Why the Great Timeline Duplicated Date Error may not be all that airtight a piece of evidence.

ETA 3: Remember what I said about no more fan reaction links? Well... from [info]narcissam: "We are declaring today Steve Vander Ark Day, November 1 - All Saints Day."

Also, a nonnymouse just left me a comment: http://www.stevevanderarkfans.com. Interestingly, it predates this whole saga by a good three months at least.

ETA 4: Another mouse: "The judge in the case says RDR Books has to come before the court on November 19. Also includes some of the info from the Lexicon that they plan to use in court." Barring a settlement (which is where I'm laying my money. Uh. So to speak), that's a while for y'all to wait.

ETA 5: The RDR Books page has changed again: By now the story of the J.K. Rowling/ Warner Bros. Halloween lawsuit aimed at Steve Vander Ark's Harry Potter Lexicon has become news from Shanghai to South Bend )

ETA 6: Accept no substitutes! Plus, a new filk. That said, I am determined to stay on this one entry unless/until something earth-shattering happens or we hit ETA 20.

ETA 7: From [info]narcissam: Hey, I wanna win )

ETA 8: From elanor: WB has now seen the book? Is it possible after all "to settle this case to Ms. Rowling's satisfaction and publish the book" [my emphasis]?

ETA 9: From TLC: Update on JKR/WB vs. RDR Books Case: "The day before last, a court ordered RDR to hand a copy of the manuscript to J.K. Rowling's lawyers, and one was delivered, according to those lawyers. JKR/WB are seeking a preliminary injunction (source here) to the sale of the book, and have not apparently been deterred by viewing the manuscript. RDR has also made claims on their web site that they have "repeatedly offer[ed] to settle this case to Ms. Rowling's satisfaction and publish the book," requests which apparently have not been agreed upon. TLC has asked RDR what the settlement was and has not been met with a response."

ETA 10: Praetorianguard has posted another analysis. I recommend reading the comments as well. Also, an interesting point regarding the book alleged to have plagiarized the Lexicon (see Hannah Abbott screencap above): Read more... )

ETA 11: Another anonycomment: Apparently when RDR (allegedly?) said "Print out the website," WB took them at their word.

"A vast international smear campaign"

[info]cleolinda
Previously on the ridiculous number of Lexicon-related entries on Fandom Wank:

Entry the First: Read more... )

Entry the Second: Read more... )

Entry the Third: Read more... )

Today:

An update on the TLC article: One or the other is misrepresenting something. Again )

Another update regarding the publication date: The order was pushed back to January 4 )

A new addition to the RDR Books Lexicon page: Why didn't they read the book we didn't give them? )

From [info]julian_black: It's like goldy or bronzy, only it's made out of iron.

Things are slowing down now. Barring a pseuicide, I have high hopes that this could be the last entry.

ETA: A summary in lolcat.

ETA 2: Snape fans weigh in on the matter (warning: the deer is teal). (Thanks, [info]kerryblaze.)

ETA 3: Huh. A comment at TLC alleges that some sixty negative comments were deleted from the Lexicon statement last night, but I was on it with ScrapBook and Screengrab pretty frequently, and I can't see any discrepancy in numbers. Also, there's still a number of negative comments yet. Does anyone have any evidence that this actually happened?

Also, from [info]lidane: "Steve Vander Ark = a House Elf and/or Harry Potter", per a comment on TLC.

ETA 4: Pics of the disputed timeline (here on the OOTP DVD). So did WB steal it or not? Analysis in the comments.

Also, now that RDR's edited out the reference: Invisible Nagasaki.

ETA 5: Apparently that TLC commenter (re: ETA #3) was posting from the future, because now all the Lexicon comments are gone. Which was pretty much inevitable. I'm just saying, that's why I was on it with Screengrab and ScrapBook the other night. (One giant screencap from SG and then three small ones manually taken from SB, sorry.) The reason there's no comment box on the last cap is because it was taken shortly after comments were closed entirely.

ETA 6: Ah, here's what I was waiting to post. Steve would be an excellent speaker at the Terminus 2008! His encyclopedia's coming out this month! )

ETA 7: A PDF file of the actual filed complaint.

ETA 8: From [info]waltraute: elanor_isolda counters several of the allegations. I would note, however, that many of these allegations stem from information on RDR Books' own site, or their uncooperativeness in handing over a copy of the book to confirm that they're in the right. Read more... )

Oh no! Batman might get teh ghey on him!

[info]sprungtodrown
So it's been announced that Heath Ledger has been offered the part of The Joker in the new Batman Begins Sequel. Not surprisingly, with a somewhat left-field choice, people seem to be a bit wanky over it. Some are caught up on Ledger's Brokeback Mountain role and are afraid teh ghey will leak into Batman and eat their minds... or something. There are some good examples here at digg.

Some highlights (since it's a bit spread out) )

As a bonus on digg, this was stated by SlashNot about IMDB:
Thats what I mean Dack, if its so fucking official IMDB would list it. They only list shit that is normally confirmed.
Yes, IMDB the source that is never wrong, and the boards there never bring the wank either! *snicker*

So what do the boards from this ulta-reliable source have to say?
There are calls for banning after this statement, "What is the world coming to? What`s next? A colored Harvey Dent?"
There are calls for lynching too!
With many related posts: I love our country! All i can talk about is gays and blacks!, So, All American, got a problem with 'coloreds'?

There's also this post, which creates this wonderful comment from Azbatz: This movie won't make as much as Batman Begins did because all the Pro-Bush Christian conservatives and I will rebuke this as Joel Schumacher Batman. Remember how much The Passion of the Christ made? Thanks to us... Maybe Nolan wasn't the right director for the sequel after all… Maybe they should have just brought in new villains not try and rehash old villains… I can’t believe that other Brokeback guy also playing Harvey Dent and everyone just taking down the throat…

There's even a good amount of tl;dr that just gets a bit confusing.

It just goes on and on...

I know DMC would be here for this one day.

[info]vergilsparda
First wank report, yadda.

In the DMC LJ icons community, mortenuova pimps demoncest, a newly created community for fans of Vergil/Dante.

I'm just pimping our new Virgil/Dante community. XO If you hate Virgil/Dante, or pimping. Ignore me! (We will be having icon challenges and so on and so forth—we're actually having one now.)

Ha ha. *run*

parsephoni proceeds to ignore the "ignore me" part and completely spazzes out about the OP being "a fucking pro-incest sick bitch" (although she said nothing about all the Vergil/Dante icons posted to the comm) and about the spelling of Nelo Angelo's name.

I'm still surprised it took THREE GAMES before this pairing got wanked.

ETA: And as the mod steps in, Parsephoni proceeds to suck up as if she wasn't the one who royally flipped out in the first place

ETAA: From the above sucking up thread:
Parsephoni: Also, I did not assume the girl was pro-incest. She made a community celebrating homosexual sex between twins. It’s obvious that she is.

The Logic is weak in this one.

~When Jokes Go Horribly Wrong

[info]zarla
My first wank and I didn't see it in the memories...feel free ta tear me up if it's been here before.
Anyway, someone makes a rather obviously fake petition to get rid of the EVIL ANIME FOREVER!

Ah My Goddess is SATAN! )

Fun is had by all, right?
Wrong.
3502 signatures later, it's only more proof that people take things entirely too seriously.

The first signer has a sense of humor, but sadly he did not last. )

It boggles the mind.

Star Wars Fans Wasting Bandwidth

[info]isntitironic
This morning I said to myself 'y'know... I'm tired of finding nothing but lame pottersues wank and half-joking wank... I'm going to go look for some real wank to post.' So I visted theforce.net. Specifically, I went to the Attack of the Clones messageboard.

Hoo, boy...

We start off with this nice little whine about bad scriptwriting... which degenerates into a bizarre discussion of expectations, editing, gratuitous characters, karma, and the proper way to spell 'Beru'. For five pages.

Then there's this (locked, but still readable) complaint about the sheer volume of CG in the movie. The first couple of responses basically warn the poster that this will get wanky, and then things head downhill in a hurry. Naturally, ILM is compared to Weta and nobody can agree who is better at it, the die-hards complain that people are just looking for something - anything - to criticize... and this goes on for twelve pages.

Over here somebody complains about double-standards in judging film effects... why does Star Wars get criticized for certain things that the Matrix and LotR also did? So everybody lines up to spend sixteen pages telling him he's wrong.

Somebody has this in his signature:

Star Wars is not Lord of the Rings with space ships
It never was, and it never will be . Peter Jackson's style IS NOT SW That is true for the OT and Pt as well
GET OVER IT!!!
I will not be seeing Return of the King; I refuse to sign that O-OT petition

This reads to me as: I actually think LotR is better than SW, but I don't want to admit it and am going to hide from it instead.

Finally, this guy thinks Mace Windu is in league with darkness and has many, many reasons why. All of them are stupid. People mock him. For twenty-one pages.
