Race Wank? In Who Fandom? It's just as likely as you'd think...

[info]fern_on_fen
As Whomageddon rolls on, [info]doctorwho  brings us another sterling gem. Or rather, two bright turds of wank, coupled together to form a synergistic pile of perfection.

First, [info]cringer1982 shares that he's written a very pointed letter to the BBC about how they have portrayed Asians in their recent episode Turn Left. He neglects to mention that he's white as the fresh driven snow. Irish, in fact.

BBC officials respond with a letter that has nothing to do with anything.

Some people don't see his point.

Meanwhile, back on the blog... )

Twilight Sparkle Surprise

[info]doomsday
I found this recipe in the other wank and thought you guys might enjoy it:

You will need
1 greased [info]ohnotheydidnt
1 ship-based MS Paint macro (Do not credit the macro! This is very important!)
3 cups [info]inksplotched
1/2 teaspoon grudge (optional)
2 heaping tablespoons [info]bazcat89
a pinch of CAPSLOCK
sparkles to taste

1. In a large bowl, add inksplotched to the macro in 1/2-cup increments, beating on high speed until stiff peaks form.

2. In another bowl, combine grudge, bazcat89, and CAPSLOCK and stir until mixed thoroughly.

3. Fold grudge-bazcat89-CAPSLOCK mixture into macro-inksplotched meringue.

4. Spread over ohnotheydidnt and top with sparkles.

5. Bake at 400 degrees for 3 days until edges are crusty.

6. Serve with your favorite alcoholic beverage and a large sprig of mockery.

*You may store Twilight Sparkle Surprise in your freezer up to 3 months.
**CAUTION: if you share your thoughts on fandom near Twilight Sparkle Surprise, it will turn out bitter and inedible and all the hungry wankas will eat you instead!

Twilight fandom dramatic departures

[info]moonlit_diva
The ever wanky Twilight fandom has finally exploded.

It stared off with the usual batch of hate secrets which no one really looks twice at anymore, but then things heated up when [info]inksplotched made an disgustingly attention whoring announcement of her departure from the fandom and her crony [info]__dittany followed her shortly.

The anons did not approve.

As if that wasn't obnoxious enough, they two of them proceeded to STICK AROUND and wank even harder at various anons.

But that is not all. She was then echoed by [info]fallenmelody in her spazzy announcement.

Some of [info]inksplotched's cronies jumped into the wank and made total asses of themselves, as can be seen in the comments I linked to.

ETA: Many of the secrets occurred because of now deleted wank which took place in [info]sortofbeautiful when [info]aromarcuscaius created the community [info]realtw_secret. This community annoucement set off a bucket-load of wank when anons starting going off on the [info]ontd_twilight mods for what may or may not be accurate accusations of assholery and god-modding.

ETA 2: Please see secrets number 9, 43, and 50 to see what started her off on her diatribe (#50 refers to a friendship community she apparently runs with her friends).

ETA 3: And also note the explosion of [info]ontd_twatlight. They seem to be twatting all over the secrets, in the anons, and have several long comment threads ([info]foutu aka the shining star/twat/anus of the Twilight fandom also made an appearance.)

Fail mods are failing

[info]sepiamagpie
Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Anyway, you got today instead.

Stop anticipating things, we'll just break your hearts.

Sincerely,

Sepia P. Magpie, Esq.

PS: Use this post to reflect on how you could be better people. Or just fuck around in the comments.

Hmmm, what's the date again?

[info]snacky
As you all know, we've had a lot of n00bs join [info]fandom_wank recently, and we've been suffering some growing pains. Once again, we urge you to read our user info and learn about the rules and how to contact the mods and all the non-fun business.

Since we have so many new baby wankas, we need some help gently reminding the young ones (and some not so young ones) of the rules. We want you to be the FW Nannies, and help us guide our sweet n00bs through this harsh, wanky world. So, if you see any of the following things:

thoughts on yaoi
out of control boobie trains
excessive posting of recipes
unfunny macros
wank reenactment in the comments
trolling, trollbaiting, trollbiting, trip-trapping across my bridge
any random breaking of actual rules

please, feel free to use the comments of this post to tattle report to us. We've set up a new community for our baby wankas, [info]fw_timeout to spend some time, if they are caught. Make sure you join!

Remember, this will make us a stronger community!

Trimming Down Toll Secrets at F_S

[info]criticalcricket
Fandomsecrets's mod Technophile makes an announcement about other communities trolling Fandomsecrets and posting fake secrets. It initially came with a link to the Capslock Supernatural Comm with a specific tag for Fandom secrets. The link has since been deleted but here's a screencap.

Called on their game, the capslock_spn-ers turn out en mouse to try and show how cool and easygoing they're taking this whole thing. They give anyone who calls them stupid or attempts to apologize on Supernatural Fandom's behalf a beat down and otherwise generally troll the comments.

Being embarrassed by your fandom makes you stuck up.
Calling the capslock_spn-ers dumb makes you dumb.
Witchling's apology on behalf of fandom earns her a smackdown.
And into the fray jumps Jameth....I dunno, your guess is as good as mine.

Technophile pops back up on the fifth page to comment on the continued presence of the trolls and gets grilled on the decision to moderate the secrets posted into his own community. Tianar expresses her rage with mighty capslocks. ashe_frost calls technophile out on his modding skills.

And in the midst of it all Capslock_spn turns off open membership to stave off the flood of potential new members and keep things manageable they say.

Women Who Hate Dean Hating Women Hating... wait.

[info]themadscientist
Let's see if I can do this properly.

Hiatus in the Supernatural fandom officially started last Friday, and already fans are getting a little stir-crazy.
There have been small-time rumblings from various corners of LJ this season over gender issues and many of these rumblings have involved Dean Winchester, one of the two stars of Supernatural.

There are spoilers about the finale of course.
Here )
eta: and for added FAIL, the poster of this wank has not figured out auto-formatting. Would anyone be kind enough to link me to the FAQ that deals with LJ-tags? When I try to use the search function I keep running into a page about harassment. Maybe it is a sign?

The fish is in a barrel, but was it home-schooled?

[info]dragonfangirl
Fanficrants again. And yet, not a single thought on yaoi in sight. Instead, we have [info]emmabrock posting a review she got on a recent story of hers, as you do. However, the fanfic review -- the fandom for which is never even mentioned -- is really secondary to the real purpose of emmabrock's post, which is: Homeschooling!

The wank wastes no time, as [info]emmabrock helpfully shares some of her, "ah, research," by which she means googling for homeschooling vs. publicschooling wankbait. Helpfully, she posts some of her results, which 'prove' that homeschoolers regard public-schoolers as barely one step above microbes.

So, are public-schoolers illiterate, drooling retards, or are home-schoolers surly, elitist, socially malformed trolls? Judging by some of the responses to emmabrock's post, I don't see why both can't be right:

Some, but not all, of the wank below... )

"Intelligent, reasonable, and open-minded?"

lawl.

Well, apparently the mods at least aren't open-minded enough, because [info]emmabrock promptly gets banned for editing her post. And then unbanned a little later because she might not actually have edited her post, maybe. Oh, well, as long as we're clear on what we're doing and why.

Comments devolve into "My Thoughts On Education" on the second page off the FFR post with no new comment thread kerfluffles to show for it, but in the meantime the wank moves to a reaction post on fanficrantsrants, where people are shocked I say, just shocked irritated by the mod's overreaction.

Joss Whedon and a rant about Firefly

[info]inconceivable
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a LiveJournal user called _allecto_ who hated Joss Whedon and his so called feminist reputation, and was determined to expose him for what he was.

To that end, she posted a rant on her LiveJournal which, to be quite frank, has to be read to be believed.

Here.

Highlights:
Zoe calls Mal 'sir' (thereby proving that Joss hates women).

Mal threatens to duct-tape Kaylee's mouth and lock her in the hold (thereby proving that _allecto_ would not recognise humour if it bit her on the butt while wearing a Groucho Marx disguise...oh, and Joss hates women).

The best bit?

On the strength of Joss' work on Firefly and interviews she has seen, _allecto_ alleges that:

I feel awful for Joss Whedon's wife. From what I've read about him and the interviews I've watched, I'm fairly certain that he rapes his wife and abuses her in various other ways.

Because _allecto_ appears to be screening comments (can't imagine why) or deleting any she doesn't like (ditto), disagreeing comments can be found in another LJ:

here.

~~~
ETA: Whedonesque reacts.
Screencaps of Whedonesque before it's gone can be found here.
But I thought Ronon was Polynesian??
[info]lasha
Mini meta wank.
SGA fandom is race wanking - yes, again. This time it started with a review Cesperanza wrote about last week's SGA episode, "Midway," aka the Teal'c and Ronon duke it out ep.  Ces says:
"this ep is going in the waste bin, because, I'm sorry, I am TOTALLY UNAMUSED by the Ronon/Teal'c fight. I think its humiliating, and treats the characters like animals, and I'm horrified at the betting, like it's--what--a cockfight? And to me it's racialized and repulsive: I was typing to Linabean: REPULSED REPULSED REPULSED and that about covers it. I'm absolutely repulsed. I don't care if it's supposed to be a showdown like Batman vs. Superman or the Hulk vs. Thing or whatever--fact is, you had two black men beating the shit out of each other and drawing the largest crowd we've ever seen on Atlantis thus far. And like, this thing of "Ronon and Teal'c have so much in common"--they DO NOT. THEY REALLY DO NOT. They are two men with darker skin than the rest of the cast, but Teal'c is overwhelmingly gentlemanly, and they were portraying Ronon like a beast, though he totally is NOT a beast, and just--WHAT THE FUCK, SGA, SERIOUSLY."
People come by, agree and discuss.  Some DON'T (and LiviaPenn gets involved).
Then, ZZanthalinn stops by to say that Jason Momoa is Polynesian, not black, hence Ronon is too? HERE. More of Momoa is Hawaiian thread.
However, Anonymous is just "pissed off" about the fight after reading Cesperanza's review.
Laptopgate II: Now With Added Condos
[info]allthat_jas
As an offshoot of the Lexicon wank, it appears Melissa wank has arrived.
As part of her "impartial" coverage of the lawsuit, Melissa Anelli of TLC apparently felt it necessary to qualify Steve Vander Ark's (signed under oath) statement that the advertising on the Lexicon "covers the cost of running the site" by reminding people that "The Leaky Cauldron houses and runs the Harry Potter Lexicon for zero charge, and has since it came under its current domain name. That is true as of this posting." However, on Feb 11 she admits to denying a request for the transfer of hosting.
This prompts SVA to release more detail than anyone wanted to know about the finances of the Lexicon. Quote: "If there was any income to me, it wasn't much, especially by comparison to the income other websites have earned." The "other website" he specifically mentions is MuggleNet, whose owner claims a "six-figure income" from the site. SVA doesn't mention TLC, but Melissa goes crazy.
A bit of digging reveals that TLC's finances have been discussed before over on I was a Leaky Lounge Mod. In May 2007, a mouse says: "I know for a fact that Melissa used Leaky money to buy herself a new laptop." In September 2007, Gina raised suspicions about who paid for Melissa's New York apartment ("the web provides a TON of information about purchase prices of condos which are pretty darn high to not have jobs *koff koff*") Over Sep/Oct 2007 the subject was raised again, and another mouse said:
"To take Melissa as the main example, as has been pointed out she lives in New York. That place is very expensive, not just real estate but the cost of living as well. She is in no way living off the advance on her book because let's face it, even if all her fangirls and boys buy it it's not going to be a huge best seller. The time has been and gone for that. She has left her full time job and therefore she must be taking at least a 5-6 figure salary from Leaky. If she is doing this and has deliberately registered it in a way that doesn't mean full disclosure, then that is appalling."
The matter was pretty much put to rest until Melissa forced SVA's hand. Ex-staff are pissed. Highlights:
There will continue to be no transparency about Leaky income. They've claimed for far too long that they make no money. I can only say that I actually know this to be total BS. I'd love to tell you my proof, alas I'm not able. Steve threw some stones but Melissa opened a door that, IMHO, that now begs the question of well, so, what DOES Leaky earn then?
and:
Since Melissa is bringing up money herself, she really should answer. If she is going to criticize Steve for trying to make this a full time job that she should be above that same criticism.
Arianhrod marches over to Leaky Lounge with this:
But since it doesn't appear that anyone else is going to ask the logical question, I will.
Just how much does Leaky make from all of this--in profit? Is this considered a hobby by the IRS, or is it a major source (or even sole source) of income?
And before anyone questions my audacity, Melissa has laid it out on the line and brought the subject of hosting and ad revenue costs into the open. It's no longer a private matter--the whole world now knows about it and as such this is a valid question, especially if TLC has been or gets dragged into this lawsuit.
I don't expect an answer--I do expect to get ripped to shreds, and that's fine. But at least I'm not afraid to ask.
Melissa ignores the question. Arianhrod calls her on it ("With all due respect, Melissa, that is avoiding the issue.") Melissa gets defensive.
"A vast international smear campaign"
[info]cleolinda
Previously on the ridiculous number of Lexicon-related entries on Fandom Wank:
Entry the First: Read more... )
Entry the Second: Read more... )
Entry the Third: Read more... )
Today:
An update on the TLC article: One or the other is misrepresenting something. Again )
Another update regarding the publication date: The order was pushed back to January 4 )
A new addition to the RDR Books Lexicon page: Why didn't they read the book we didn't give them? )
From [info]julian_black: It's like goldy or bronzy, only it's made out of iron.
Things are slowing down now. Barring a pseuicide, I have high hopes that this could be the last entry.
ETA: A summary in lolcat.
ETA 2: Snape fans weigh in on the matter (warning: the deer is teal). (Thanks, [info]kerryblaze.)
ETA 3: Huh. A comment at TLC alleges that some sixty negative comments were deleted from the Lexicon statement last night, but I was on it with ScrapBook and Screengrab pretty frequently, and I can't see any discrepancy in numbers. Also, there's still a number of negative comments yet. Does anyone have any evidence that this actually happened?
Also, from [info]lidane: "Steve Vander Ark = a House Elf and/or Harry Potter", per a comment on TLC.
ETA 4: Pics of the disputed timeline (here on the OOTP DVD). So did WB steal it or not? Analysis in the comments.
Also, now that RDR's edited out the reference: Invisible Nagasaki.
ETA 5: Apparently that TLC commenter (re: ETA #3) was posting from the future, because now all the Lexicon comments are gone. Which was pretty much inevitable. I'm just saying, that's why I was on it with Screengrab and ScrapBook the other night. (One giant screencap from SG and then three small ones manually taken from SB, sorry.) The reason there's no comment box on the last cap is because it was taken shortly after comments were closed entirely.
ETA 6: Ah, here's what I was waiting to post. Steve would be an excellent speaker at the Terminus 2008! His encyclopedia's coming out this month! )
ETA 7: A PDF file of the actual filed complaint.
ETA 8: From [info]waltraute: elanor_isolda counters several of the allegations. I would note, however, that many of these allegations stem from information on RDR Books' own site, or their uncooperativeness in handing over a copy of the book to confirm that they're in the right. Read more... )
Of real life yaoi, transsexuals, and someone who has read TOO much yaoi manga...
[info]ladyofviolets
Ganked from [info]clairvoyantwank!
[info]ashleyvsdestiny makes an apparently innocent question in the [info]yaoi comm at LJ: Like, people do you think REAL YAOI BOYS exist? I mean, I'm like an uke, with long blond bangs, yet only straight guys like me, like WTF...
People, naturally, aren't exactly kind to the OP. Like [info]toxictatoo, who starts raising his doubts: Could this be because, gasp, real life gay men prefer manly partners? And because this is REAL LIFE, not yaoi manga? What do you mean with *yaoi lifestyle, BTW?
[info]ashleyvsdestiny: Imagine boys who are somewhat feminin in apperance and could pass as girls under a lot of circumstances without looking out of place. Boys who are soft and harmless and cute looking. Boys, who to discribe them, you could only come up with the word 'Uke' even though you know 'yaoi words' should never actually apply anthing you've seen in the real world. (Yes, this is copy/paste from her reply to TT).
[info]da_rosas: O RLY?! Yanno, yaoi only exists in FANTASY! But why don't you ask, like, some FtM transsexuals?
[info]ashleyvsdestiny: NO, NO, NO, NO! Transsexuals? EWWWWWWW! NOT bishie enough!
[info]tasukikou: STFU N00B!!!111 What have transsexuals ever done to you!?
It pretty much goes downhill from there.
BONUS TRACK! More transsexuals bashing in [info]ashleyvsdestiny's LJ. OH, DON'T GO THERE, GIRLFRIEND.
ETA2: MORE transsexuals bashing. In a post very adequately named "Fucking Transsexuals".
ETA3: Look what happens when the OP posts some pics of... herself?! It's a GIRL?! WRYYYYY!? Bonus explanation about gay slang inserted here.
There is NO damn God.
