JKR owes us revised editions of HP books!

[info]mariem_1
A "slightly disgruntled fan" wrote an 80,000-word essay about everything he disliked in the books and wants JKR to rewrite HP in accordance with his wishes.

An excerpt from the essay:

Destiny Unfulfilled is designed to convince as many fans as possible that a revised edition is called for, so they can begin haranguing Ms. Rowling (politely and with restraint, of course). Never underestimate the power of peon pressure!
Creative writing students will likely also benefit from reading this book, as the careful analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of someone else's writing often helps us spot those same traits in our own work. Finally, students of composition can use this as an example of argumentative writing, as well as a jumping off point for school writing assignments, by either agreeing with or countering points made here-in.

Then he went to The Leaky Lounge to brag about his essay and to convince the posters here to beg JKR to revise the books.

An excerpt from his first post:

I do have an M.A. in English, but I feel my main qualifications for writing the book are that I'm a (slightly disgruntled) fan of the series, and I've put a lot of effort into analyzing the seven books. To be clear, this is not a religious diatribe, political axe-grinding, nor do I attempt to take Ms. Rowling to school on who should have fallen in love with whom in the series. (I am *not* a kook! Heh.) Rather, this is an examination of issues like the role of a protagonist, the writer's contract with her readers, characterization, shaggy dog resolutions, and so forth.

The critique makes claims such as that Harry fails to fulfill his role as a protagonist and, ultimately, ceases to be even a necessary character. Hermione could easily have made it through Book 7 without Harry and Ron tagging along after her.... That seems like a fairly major problem, when the title character turns out to be unnecessary.

I hope we can make enough noise to get Ms. Rowling's attention. We aren't asking for more books in the series, just that she fulfill the promises she made to us: that the books would star Harry as the hero and protagonist, that the books wouldn't be episodic, and so forth.

The Russet Doom Saga, Part IV

[info]caito
In Part III, we saw what happened when Lady Sybilla tried to tangle with the Twilight Lexicon mods for the last time (they banned her), and watched in awe as Wikipedia users worked "around the clock" to get her Russet Noon article deleted. You can still find "The Wikipedia Wars" linked on the Russet Noon website, but you'll have to scroll down past...

The FanHistory Wars.
A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....

Artistic revolution (who, for reasons which will become blatantly obvious, is a suspected sockpuppet of Lady Sybilla) edited the shit out of the Russet Noon fanhistory page. Artistic revolution has a pretty one-track mind, it would appear. Or two-track, if you count Lady Sybilla as a separate topic.

In the midst of all those edits, there was no shortage of information about me, Sybilla's own favorite "stalkarazzo." (I know I'm her favorite, she says so herself on the Russet Noon website.) The following information is culled from the Revision as of 00:27, 21 April 2009 version of the page.
Although Caito posted the email text on one of her many Journalfen pages, her only acknowledgment of Sybilla's concerns was: "I'm totally over this email business. I have a spam filter and I intend to use it. If someone wants to continue discussing this shiz, she can do so in the comments like everybody else." Strange reaction given that Caito's Whois record for her site openly discloses her gmail address:
At this point, Artistic revolution somehow thought it was appropriate to include my mailing address and contact information. Yes, in the middle of the article for Russet Noon. But that's not all! She did go on. I bolded my favorite parts!
More recently, Caito provided us with a video example of how the attention-whoring for which she mocks Sybilla is more contagious than a disease. Ironically, while she spends her valuable time making fun of the ''Russet Noon'' author for trying to exploit Stephenie Meyer's popularity, Caito, too, seems to be riding the wave of the ''Russet Noon'' obsession. And she does so quite gracefully. If it weren't for Caito, ''Russet Noon'' would have never achieved taboo status.

... On April 3, 2009, LadySybilla emailed Caito and asked her to stop her "online stalking activities." On this email, Sybilla warned, "If you don't, I will notify as many administrators as I have to until they take action." Sybilla then contacted the Journalfen technical support team to ask how she could contact an administrator in order to report libelous accusations posted by some of their users. But, instead of responding to Sybilla's concerns, the JournalFen support team (if, in fact, there is one) forwarded a copy of the email to Caito. This incident may or may not prompt internet users to wonder about the legitimacy of Journalfen. Is Journalfen an actual company? If it is, who are the tech support staff and/or administrators behind it?

... Judging by the look of things, it won't be Sybilla who will be profiting off of ''Russet Noon'' sales after all. Let's see what happens when Caito and her BFFs at Twilight Lexicon get their hands on a copy of the novel in September.
All that has since been nuked from the actual FanHistory page, and replaced with more evenhanded material. People here at FW went a little flaily for a bit, as a software snafu made it appear as though FH mod Sidewinder had been the one to add my personal info when she'd really just meant to take it down.*

Then the mods brought the hurt down on Artistic revolution, who has been banned from editing the wiki for two whole weeks! She's really sorry, though, guys. Please stop throwing stones at her, and let her catapult boulders at others in peace.

But it's not like Artistic revolution has been the only one tooling with it, either. Some anons got in and tweaked it ever so slightly, like changing the story summary simply to "OH JOHN RINGO NO!" Editing the Russet Noon article is temporarily locked to admins, due to anon vandalizing and a neutrality dispute.

Personal notes:
  1. I do not know what end anyone would hope to achieve by posting my address.
  2. I'm not BFFs or even BFs or even just Fs with the TwiLex mods, but I sure do like them more than I like Lady Sybilla.
  3. I have no clue how I would stand to profit from anything having to do with Russet Noon.
  4. I have no idea who Lee Thomas even is.
*Aside to FanHistory folks: Thanks. I really appreciate what you did. Do me one more solid? I did respond to Lady Sybilla's concerns about my "accusations", but I guess it got lost in the epic wave of comments. Like I said before, Lady Sybilla is welcome to come engage me in comments, but as far as I know she has yet to do so. Muchos gracias.

ETA
: Artistic revolution rides forth on teal deer to appeal to Laura's professionalism.

ETA 2: Laura responds!

ETA 3: The Russet Noon website is now basically a hate shrine dedicated to me and FH mod Sidewinder, complete with Photoshopped screencaps of me interacting with people I've never actually interacted with. Oh, and also my contact information.

You know, I'm starting to get the feeling that she doesn't take criticism very well.

ETA
4: From Artistic revolution's usertalk page:
I'm not interested in antagonizing you. You have been objective, but I still have to insist that Sidewinder, whoever she is, hasn't been. She might not have the same IP address as Caito, but her editing patterns are dubious. I have listed the evidence on my website because I'm blocked from doing so here. If I'm not allowed to edit the article, then at least Sidewinder should also be prevented from tampering with it any further.

All in all, as I said before, I'm not interested in antagonizing you. Based on your reasons for why Wikipedia blacklisted FH, I know you can understand how I feel in regards to Russet Noon. I have seen that your procedures reflect professionalism. This is why I appealed to that.

I sincerely apologized to both you and Tikatu, but never received a reply. At least at Wikipedia they lifted the ban. Sure, they deleted the article, but they were reasonable enough to lift the ban. I'm sorry if the procedure I followed to try to negotiate with you guys was not what you expected.

I would much rather have you delete the Russet Noon article altogether than to continue with this conflict.
Once again, it is not my intention to antagonize you.
So, yeah, Artistic revolution is almost certainly Lady Sybilla.

ETA 5
: The hate shrine is now down from the Russet Noon site. It's been replaced with a paragraph about how "the wars have ceased" and the rest is now ostensibly about the fanfic again.

ETA 4-24 7:22am Tokyo time
: In case anyone was wondering how Lady Sybilla was taking the news about Peter David's community parody-in-progress, here's the reaction from her twitter:
# it's an honor even though it's a satire, because Peter David is a very seasoned writer
4 minutes ago from web

# many fanfic writers of the net will be uniting to write Potato Moon. The creator is comic book author Peter David
4 minutes ago from web

# let's hope this communal novel will inspire many more to come. I'd love to see a serious thriller or drama like this
7 minutes ago from web

# communal novels are a new genre, there are not many of them that I know of. I'm very curious to read Potato Moon.
8 minutes ago from web

# I'm very proud to announce that Russet Noon has inspired a very unique parody, Potato Moon. It's a communal novel
8 minutes ago from web
The Russet Noon website has also changed. It no longer makes mention of any "wars" whatsoever.

ETA 7: "You are invited to read our latest press release, "Lady Sybilla: The Darth Vader of Fandom."* It appears that Russet Noon has already achieved taboo status without having even been released yet. That's what happens when a Darth Vader figure like Lady Sybilla is created. And now she's found a worthy opponent: Peter David."

*That link goes to a c&p in my journal. To view the original (and give LS more hits) click here.

ETA 8: Her tweeting continues, c&ped here.

ETA 9: The first part of Potato Moon is up... I have a FanHistory page now, and actually I kind of like it, especially the graphic and its caption... and yes, my little lolcats, you can has more ONTD.

ETA 10: She just updated the Russet Noon site again (screencapped here), linking to the articles that appeared on Comicmix and IMDB. (Except her IMDB link actually goes here, where you have to scroll down halfway down the page the relevant blurb.)

ETA 11
: Peter David's Potato Moon has its own Wikipedia page! It is a thing of true beauty and you will never, ever guess who started it. But to avoid the situation that occurred the last time she wrote articles on Wikipedia, she's asked another user to edit the Potato Moon article for her. And he is (adding links to the Potato Moon blog entries, at least)! He just wants to know more about who AV Paranormal is. This should go well, I think.

ETA 12: She's linked to something on the Wall Street Journal site now. What the lemonfresh hell?

Someone criticizing your fic on your personal journal? Call a mod!

[info]jkefka
Here's a very small but absolutely delightful fic wank courtesy of the mousies of [info]wank_report. I will say now that, to the best of my knowledge, all involved are 18+, though not all of them had ages posted so I can't be sure.

[info]ravenette2506 is am member of the small Alex Rider fandom (Alex Rider is apparently some teen spy book series I'd never heard of, but the wank is good anyways) and the yassen_alex community. She posts a fic of this pairing in her personal journal. [info]frayer shows up to give some constructive criticism (or "concrit," apparently? You kids and your crazy portmanteaus). To paraphrase: "your fandom tends to do a lot worse but this isn't bad, oh and this line bugged me." A little harsh, perhaps, but not overly nasty. But it's on a personal journal, right? If the author objects they can just deal, delete, screen, whatever.

Or not.

'The Mod Signal! Quick Boy Fapper, to the wankmobile!' )

ETA: Bahleetion! Luckily, [info]harumph has provided a cap for your entertainment. Also whoever linked them here is FAIL.

ETA deuce: OH NOES TEH HAXORS

ETA god my poor thesis: More cappage courtesy of [info]_goblin_! And may I repeat: mousie who trolled the wank, you are a failure among failures. (Now with the original "concrit" courtesy of [info]killer_gopher and [info]sisterelwood)(AND MORE!)

ETA FOR FUCK'S SAKE IT'S ONLY BEEN LIKE TEN MINUTES SINCE THE LAST ONE: Not content to rank among the mousies, SuperMod has appeared to slaughter us all with his/her/its passive-aggressive smilies! :)

ETA of genuine interest: This shit's getting weird. OK, so, we had bahleetion, then some helpful mouse showed up with a link to a cap which turned out to be capped by Yaseanne and was promptly deleted. The twist?

The "helpful mouse's" IP

abrandnewboom's IP

Yaseanne's IP

So...either these two are in collusion to both keep the wank alive and try to act all superior about it being trolled or we've got some crazy-ass sockpuppetry and IP hiding going on. Yeah. I don't even fucking know.

ETA FTW: And this, ladies and gentlemen, is good modding. *salutes*

It's Not Easy Dreaming Green

[info]narcissam
At discussion forums for George Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire", a mostly innocent OP made a small mistake. You see, one of Martin's characters, Jojen Reed, has dreams that come true, and he calls them his "green dreams." Another character, Prince Daeron Targaryen, has dreams that come true, and he hasn't called them anything as far as we know. OP Kevin Lannister speculated they were much the same thing, then typed the fatal sentence:

He was world reknown for his drunkeness but his "green dreams" seem very un-targaryen to me and after a reread it seems he might have more to do with the story than he seems.
The thread, which has very slight spoilers for George Martin's "A Song Of Fire and Ice" books, stays polite until here, where Mister Manticore is brusque about Daeron's dreams not being green dreams. Another poster Denver jumps in to defend the Original Poster, martialling all the forces of formal logic to put Mister Manticore in his place.

Given what your written words are, I cannot prove the A is a viable description of your comments, because there are no actual signs of 'A' (i.e., no signs of any tactfulness), which is a necessary condition for proving a positive. )

The thread gets increasingly cranky (for example, Saddam Hussein and the UN weapons inspectors are referenced), until Denver scores a huge rhetorical victory by tricking Mister Manticore that he owns logic books.

Twilight vs. Twilight round INFINITY

[info]shallow_kid
So, there is a petition aimed towards Stephenie Meyer and her publisher Little, Brown that's actually more of a letter about why Breaking Dawn sucks and what the author (of the letter!) would have done to make it better. It has received 1152 signatures so far.

When it broke a thousand, the petition's author emailed the following letter to Seth*, the maintainer of StephenieMeyer.com:

Seth,

I completely understand that you are not the whipping boy for Stephenie Meyer, but she has given us no address to reach her directly, so sadly, I have few choices- and one of them was to send this to you.

My name is Heather Faust, and I have written a letter to Stephenie and to Little, Brown. As suggested by a number of others on message boards, I posted this letter as a "petition." Today we reached a thousand signatures. (It has only been live for a few days.) We will continue to leave it live and see how it grows.

I feel that it is well written and respectful, and I would hope that you would take a few minutes to read it. If it gets through to Stephenie, well, I'd be thrilled. We are not looking to hurt her, we aren't looking for her to rewrite it... We just want our opinions acknowledged, and we'd like to no longer be referred to as a "vocal minority." We'd also love it if she'd be able to answer our concerns with more than just "it's fiction," "I'm not a biology major" or other brush offs. We don't, of course expect that at all. But just a simple "Yes, I hear you, I'm sorry that you were disappointed" would be enough for us.

Anyway, sorry that you are in the middle of all of this. That must suck for you.

Thanks for your time

Seth responds:

In an attempt to keep the books clean and not make young girls think about things that they don't need to think about, no other book mentioned anything about reproductive systems. )

*A lot of people have mentioned that Seth is not only the webmaster of SMeyer's site, he's also her brother.

MythBusters Fans Wanky? MYTH CONFIRMED!

[info]cottonsocks
The Discovery Channel has been hyping up its forthcoming "ALL NEW" MythBusters episodes for quite some time, and the first [ETA: Whoops! My bad.] second new one was supposed to air last night. But ONOZ! Instead of the long-awaited "Viral Video" ep, those who tuned in got...a rebroadcast of the already rerun-to-death "Pirate Special." Sadface.

It turns out that about an hour and a half before the episode was to air, the mod on the MB fansite forum announced a delay in the next two scheduled new episodes; those ("Viral Video" and "Ninjas 2") will be postponed indefinitely and there will not be a new episode until Aug. 27. Comments start out pretty tame, with fans ass-kissing the mod and blaming the Olympics, but quickly escalate to ever-wankier heights.

In 34 (so far) wanktastic pages, we have conspiracy theories, entitlement wank, fans being told to GTFO if they're not angry enough.

ZOMG loyal fans are being deprived of their livelihoods! Won't someone think of the fans??
ZOMG God-modding!
ZOMG leave Adam and Jamie alone!
In Soviet Russia, forum triggers you!
User Bored_as_of_now sums it up nicely here: "As of now, the only reasons for this to be okay are aliens, cancer, or editing."
A Digg thread is started to wank about it some more!
There's even some trollery perpetrated, oddly enough, by a user called thetroll.
What with the God-modding and all, this could be deleted at any time. So...enjoy it while it's hot? Okay, lukewarm.

ETA2: We can has macro! Wank is now up to page 40! :o

Ginny and Ron vs. Hermione! Round 27496.

[info]sheep
For years Ginny and Ron fans have been whinging all over the web about the film and promotional treatment of their characters. For a short while at least, it seems they can take a break from whinging while Hermione fans pick up the gauntlet.

Recently a teaser trailer was finally released, and all were joyous! The trailer mainly featured young!Voldie, Dumbledore and Harry, but there were snippets of Ginny and Ron. Alas! There was no Hermione. The insult continued recently when some promos were released, featuring Ron and Harry, but still no Hermione. The final straw came when some pictures of foreign merchandise were released, featuring new pics of Ron and Ginny, but nothing new for Hermione. As well as some trading cards featuring Ron and Harry.

There were some small signs of dissent in the posts linked above, but it never really went anywhere. The Leaky Cauldron was not so lucky, maybe because they didn't link to the old pic of Hermione. There, some of the Hermione fans rage and the Ginny and Ron fans rub it in.

As I can't link direct to comments, I'll copy paste the juiciest from each page, so this will be quite a long report.

But I'll leave you with my personal favourite!

Who needs to be entertained by the HBP film? Reading all these comments have me rolling on the floor in laughter! Remember, children, they’ve only released the “Teaser” trailer… obviously, teasing releases “the Dark Lord ” in some of you. Wicked.

So True!

Thank you to the Mouse on wank_report for dropping this in my lap.

ETA: More wanksting about the promos, on LJ this time. Thanks [info]peachespig!

The aftermath of "Breaking Dawn"

[info]cleolinda
We are falling behind on the Sparkledammerung, you guys. Previously: Twilight had its own Carpet Book. Fresh off the truck:

>> Don't Burn It, Return It!
Just got back from Borders, where they took back my book with no problem. Got into a discussion with the cashier about how I was the 15th (!!!) person to bring my book back today. Seems like many customers felt that SM was not true to her characters and her self created Twilight world, and are calling foul.
(See also: Half.com's BD listing; more anecdata at iworkatborders and ONTD).

>> Two new communities are up, mmmcradle (specifically protesting spoiler )) and whysofailsmeyer, and those are just the ones I know of.

>> Epic ONTD post is epic, complete with macros and Dark Knight rewrites (ALFREDS EYES WERE A BUTTERY, BURNING GOLD; HIS PERFECT FACE ALMOST SEVERE WITH THE DEPTH OF HIS EMOTION AS HE STARED INTO MY EYES AND SHOUTED "NEVAH").

I hear the Twilight Moms board is supposed to open back up today (apparently Stephenie Meyer asked her fan boards to go on hiatus prior to the book release...?), so that should be interesting. ETA: The Twilight Moms loved it! Bless. ETA 2: ... And so it begins. ETA 3: And continues! ETA 4: NO DISSENT!

ETA 5: It was a social experiment test, Twihards, and you failed it! Also: Godwin's. Also-also: She couldn't have been referencing Lolita... could she?

ETA 6: OH SHI--

ETA 7: Alleged MySpace defriending by the author!

ETA 8: A new letter-writing campaign: EDIT MOAR; a J/B shipper decides to rewrite the book.

By the way, you guys, if something else happens, feel free to post a new entry. I'll be over here battening down the LJ hatches.

ETA 9: Seriously, people, there is some fantastic wank linked in the comments now. SOMEONE ELSE TAKE A TURN ON THE CAROUSEL.

Avatar Ship Wank

[info]the_sun_is_up
As some of you know, Avatar: the Last Airbender had its series finale yesterday. Many mind-blowing things occured in the finale, but since this is fandom, all the wankers care about is one thing: whose ships got sunk?

Spoilery Ship Wank under the cut )

OH my fandom. You never stop wanking, do you?

Edit: Bonus wank from livejournal! (Thank you [info]ueuecoyotl!) Character-bashing, creator-bashing, and plans for a rewrite. My Harmony flashbacks grow stronger and more vivid by the minute.

Edit 2: Limey404 brilliantly calls Avid on her bullshit. Wow that's some grade-A hypocrisy right there folks.

Edit 3: The batshit continues as Avid posts a follow-up. Just... read it. It's special.

Edit 4: Avid's BFF, Isaluvszutara, brings the drama in her own journal. Sheesh, don't these people have lives ouside of their ships? D:

Why so wanky?

[info]doomsday
Fanboys are out in force on Rotten Tomatoes. There are six bad reviews of The Dark Knight posted, and each one has hundreds of comments, mostly consisting of "**** YOU, YOU PRETENTIOUS DOUCHE! I HATE NEW YORKERS!" Four (or five—I'm too lazy to check) of the six reviews are from NY, you see. Here are the posted blurbs from reviews:

"The Dark Knight is noisy, jumbled, and sadistic." 194 comments

"This movie is too in love with itself to make you love it." 334 comments

"This movie is grim and jammed together. The narrative isn't shaped coherently to bring out contrasts and build toward a satisfying climax. The Dark Knight is constant climax; it's always in a frenzy, and it goes on forever." 535 comments WARNING: alleged spoilers in the review.

"Visually impressive, but any hack can do a halfway decent job with trailer-ready tangents. Not everyone can push the genre forward, and the fact that Nolan's padded popcorn flick isn't the streamlined masterpiece it could have been is a real buzzkill." 200 comments

"Plodding, puffed-up kitsch mistaking itself for profound psycho noir that the source material won't support." 122 comments WARNING: alleged spoilers in the review.

"The generation of consumers who swallow this pessimistic sentiment can’t see past the product to its debased morality. Instead, their excitement about The Dark Knight’s dread (that teenage thrall with subversion) inspires their fealty to product." 201 comments

Everyone's a jerk! Yay!

Cuz German Gay Soap Operas R Srz Bsnz

[info]seca
Just when I think I've seen just about everything wanked there comes Gay German Soap Opera wank. Credit for writing the report goes to the Anonymouse over at [info]wank_report. All I did was fix the html as there really was nothing to add.

Once upon a time in fall 2007 there was a German soap opera named AWZ (Alles Was Zählt) with hot gay kissing. So the blog romanunddeniz.blogspot.com was created to post youtube clips and spoilers for people to squee about.

All was well.

Except then hot boy 1 starts declaring his love for some chick and dicking around behind boy 2's back. The fans are stunned. Denial. Anger. Depression.

Just as hot boy 1 is stepping out on hot boy 2, a second German soap named VL (Verbotene Liebe) pops up and also features hot boy kissing. People bring up those two guys from As The World Turns and Hollyoakes. People are curious how gay storylines are being handled all over the world. And so romanunddeniz.blogspot.com turns into gaydaytime.blogspot.com where clips from gay storylines in daytime and primetime are posted and everybody lives together peacefully, right?

WRONG.

The VL storyline gets linked in a couple of places, it has subtitles and some people are really feeling it. The fans of AWZ feel neglected. They complain that blog owner Wolfi doesn't appreciate the subtle humor and superior writing of AWZ when he complains that a soap doing a storyline on a killer virus is stupid. And why or why don't people acknownledge that AWZ is clearly the vastly superior German soap opera featuring two guys swapping spit? (notice user chrisms and gabi, they are gonna show up again)

So Wolfi makes a main post defending his decision and his right to think killer virus storylines are stupid. He expresses his anguish over the good old AWZ days when they were all so happy together and his sadness that when his blog featured a poll asking people that if they could cancel a soap from the gay daytime lineup people picked AWZ rather than As The World Turns as he expected.

The AWZ fans go quiet for a while.

Except then suddenly things start looking up for AWZ. The female love interests disappears. Hot boy 1 starts taking cocaine and dryhumping hot boy 2. Some people are feeling it, some don't. chrisms complains that people don't see that the VL storyline is badbadbadwrong.

The next AWZ clip gets posted and chrisms complains that not everybody thinks that having sex with your ex-boyfriend while he is on drugs is stuff we all would do when we are in love. Some people call boy 2 a whiner. chrisms and anonymous accuse each other of having wrong expectations of the soap genre.

The next clip gets posted and chrisms tells people how they really feel about VL storyline, about people not appreciating the sublime beauty of the AWZ story and how they gleefully wait for the day when VL goes down in smokes.

Anonymous (that makes the wank suck a bit, most VL fans tend to use anonymous, in the squee posts too) steps in and says that "asshole fans" like chrisms are keeping them from having sympathy for the story.

Chrisms friend Gabi steps in and calls anonymous on being an anonymous and calling chrism an asshole. Anonymous comes back and defends their decision to call chrisms an asshole and proceed to praise apparently without irony how much less petty they are than the AWZ fans. People award points to gabi. Other anonymous steps in and indicates that chrisms a hypocrite for complaining about the level of discussion the blog is compared against their statements about the level of intelligence of the VL fans.

Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Anyway, you got today instead.

Stop anticipating things, we'll just break your hearts.

If I have learned anything from FW, ponies are for special people.

[info]seca
Picked up from [info]wank_report.

Ponystars.com is an online game for a pony raising connected to Acclaim Games, Inc. All is not fine in this land of happy pony love though. It begins with this thread. On June 9th doulanurse creates a thread saying she believes it is impossible for people to have the kind of ponies they have in their account without knowing or paying someone at Acclaim to get them. Methony confronts her about her accusations in this thread and doulanurse pulls the cancer card on her. The thread dies off quickly though and the argument seems to have ended.

Then a few days later doulanurse makes another thread, this time about her being unhappy with people owning multiple accounts, which she sees as cheating. She makes a post in the forums about this, Methony, as an example, based only on the fact her account is less than a month old.

Of course quickly there are users accusing doulanurse of using Methony as an example because of a grudge against her. doulanurse insists that using Methony as an example is not because of a grudge and everyone just needs to get back on topic, whether or not having multiple accounts are cheating. In fact she quotes herself several times whenever any conversation that deviates from the topic shows up to trey to get people to discuss the topic she wants discussed, but for the most part she is ignored.

As other members of the board come in to refute her, doulanurse responds by telling everyone that:

I am on medications that make my inhibition's free! )

Neither side seems to want to let go of this issue and the actual topic seems to be lost within finger pointing from both sides on whether or not doulanurse posted this in a grudge against Methony.

bandom_wank

[info]jar
So! There is a bandom specific anonymous mocking comm over here on JF that is called [info]bandflesh. It's all flashing text and caplock lulz and stupid anon shenanigans... until certain people decide that it's all too much for them. To the point of: Quite a few of the defriendings were people I have met IRL, care about a lot, a couple of them I even consider good friends.

Mmhmmm.

I wasn't sure if this was quite wanky enough for F_W itself, even though I got some lulz out of it.

[ETA]: Oh dear: South Part and Fandom Wank paved the way to a world where being a giant fuckwit is admirable and hilarious. And it makes me feel so vulnerable and unhappy and lonely, because how can I trust anyone?

:(.

[ETA2]: And:

[info]shoemaster wrote: It certainly creates the opportunity for dialogs such as this, now doesn't it?

[info]claireweasley wrote: Sure, if it makes you feel better about being a shitty human being.

Trimming Down Toll Secrets at F_S

[info]criticalcricket
Fandomsecrets's mod Technophile makes an announcement about other communities trolling Fandomsecrets and posting fake secrets. It initially came with a link to the Capslock Supernatural Comm with a specific tag for Fandom secrets. The link has since been deleted but here's a screencap.

Called on their game, the capslock_spn-ers turn out en mouse to try and show how cool and easygoing they're taking this whole thing. They give anyone who calls them stupid or attempts to apologize on Supernatural Fandom's behalf a beat down and otherwise generally troll the comments.

Being embarrassed by your fandom makes you stuck up.
Calling the capslock_spn-ers dumb makes you dumb.
Witchling's apology on behalf of fandom earns her a smackdown.
And into the fray jumps Jameth....I dunno, your guess is as good as mine.

Technophile pops back up on the fifth page to comment on the continued presence of the trolls and gets grilled on the decision to moderate the secrets posted into his own community. Tianar expresses her rage with mighty capslocks. ashe_frost calls technophile out on his modding skills.

And in the midst of it all Capslock_spn turns off open membership to stave off the flood of potential new members and keep things manageable they say.

LJ elections + fandom = SRS BIZNIZ!

[info]pyratejenni
As seen on [info]clairvoyantwank...

LiveJournal is holding elections for a users' representative on the LJ Advisory Board. Among the candidates are [info]jameth and [info]legomymalfoy. There are other candidates, bugt these two have the most attention. Depending on who you talk to, [info]jameth is a witty, widely read LJ celebrity/troll who kicks people when they're down, and [info]legomymalfoy is a fannish member in good standing of LJ Abuse/Establishment Pig who left her fellow fen out to dry during Strikethrough.

This being LJ-related, there's wank. Sweet Mother of God, is there wank.

It starts with a post from [info]jameth about possible ballot-stuffing and rolls downhill from there. Accusations of [info]jameth's newest campaign icon triggering seizures in epileptics (sorry, no links - the one I saw on [info]metafandom has been locked down). Supporters of both candidates being called trolls (too many threads to link) and accusations of smear campaigns on both sides. The "sleeping giant" of fandom being awakened. Like the dragon!

By Monday, [info]legomymalfoy was in the lead. But that's not enough [info]bookshop, aka Aja. Because jameth is still a menace to LJ! So she encourages people to spam fannish LJ communities to get out the vote.

Not everyone agrees. Comments are deleted. [info]jameth shows up, and Aja freezes the thread.

And what's a fandom popularity conest debate without Godwin's?

ETA: Someone blew their Humanity roll.

But what color is your seed?

[info]mistressrenet
Storm Constantine's Wraeththu books are high Gothic, post-apocalyptic, purple prosey, epic novels about magical hermaphrodites with colorful 'seed' who fuck everyone they like but only 'bond' permanently through a blood exchange.*

Surprisingly, the [info]raythoo comm is generally free of wank, but [info]har_nukleopatra is determined to change all that!

He posts: )

* An absurd and not entirely accurate summation.
