If you can't take a joke, stay off the internet on April 1

[info]mockingbird
thought_ribbon decided to go for an April's Fools joke on Barrowmanfans stating a fake Daily Mail article about John Barrowman announcing that he and partner Scott will have a baby by August thanks to a surrogate
(original entry with text deleted, but still up at OP journal )

As you may guess most people were either really happy for the actor and his partner, while others called the bluff

Then misaditas,(who made the OP delete the original text), aresnz and some nameless mice call the joke too sensitive because Barrowman really do wants a child (while his partner may or may not)

More Mousies (who perhaps aren't so anonymous as they believe) point out that you can only make an April's Fool Joke before noon, even if you are in another time zone as they are, and start attacking the OP as "not a fan" since she once also faked Barrowman's address in a FanFic

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

[info]sepiamagpie
Oh fair and forgiving denizens of fandom wank, it has come time for us to choose a new champion. Or a new mod, at least. You may have noticed us fading away, like beautiful unicorns. But no more!

Before you are the tasks three that must be completed for consideration:

1. You must locate a truly funny wank. It may be in our archives.
2. A golden apple. You may be creative.
3. Ten disney icons (edit: This can also be Pixar). Sep wants disney icons.

Those that complete this task will be brought before the oracle of Phosfate to hear their fate!

There will be prizes for participation, although they are best described as 'crappy'. Oh, and the mod prize.

AND WE'RE DONE. PRIZES IN NEXT POST

Fail mods are failing

[info]sepiamagpie
Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Anyway, you got today instead.

Stop anticipating things, we'll just break your hearts.

Sincerely,

Sepia P. Magpie, Esq.

PS: Use this post to reflect on how you could be better people. Or just fuck around in the comments.

But I thought Ronon was Polynesian??

[info]lasha
Mini meta wank.

SGA fandom is race wanking - yes, again. This time it started with a review Cesperanza wrote about last week's SGA episode, "Midway," aka the Teal'c and Ronon duke it out ep.  Ces says:

"this ep is going in the waste bin, because, I'm sorry, I am TOTALLY UNAMUSED by the Ronon/Teal'c fight. I think its humiliating, and treats the characters like animals, and I'm horrified at the betting, like it's--what--a cockfight? And to me it's racialized and repulsive: I was typing to Linabean: REPULSED REPULSED REPULSED and that about covers it. I'm absolutely repulsed. I don't care if it's supposed to be a showdown like Batman vs. Superman or the Hulk vs. Thing or whatever--fact is, you had two black men beating the shit out of each other and drawing the largest crowd we've ever seen on Atlantis thus far. And like, this thing of "Ronon and Teal'c have so much in common"--they DO NOT. THEY REALLY DO NOT. They are two men with darker skin than the rest of the cast, but Teal'c is overwhelmingly gentlemanly, and they were portraying Ronon like a beast, though he totally is NOT a beast, and just--WHAT THE FUCK, SGA, SERIOUSLY."

People come by, agree and discuss.  Some DON'T (and LiviaPenn gets involved).

Then, ZZanthalinn stops by to say that Jason Momoa is Polynesian, not black, hence Ronon is too? HERE. More of Momoa is Hawaiian thread.

However, Anonymous is just "pissed off" about the fight after reading Cesperanza's review.

Self-published novel wank...

[info]delicfcd
...not involving the author. At all.

I know, it's a miracle, right?

The whole thing revolves around a self-published book by 'acclaimed' novelist Katherine Stableford, called 'The Experiment' (as yet, no one has claimed that their wankery was a social experiment, though, which is sad. It would have amused me), and revolving around the LJ community for said book. (Bets on whether any of the creators/members are authorial sockpuppets will now be taken.)

As far as I can tell it revolves around the fact that omg no onez likes the right character! With bonus mention of plagiarism, right there at the start. The hatred extends to unfavourable reviews. 'Unfavourable review' here meaning '... what is this crap. Seriously.' Followed shortly by BANNINATION.

From here on in the plucky little fandom does it's best to replicate it's big sisters: Accusations of Zomgcensorship! and instances of You insulted me, so I DEFRIENDED you! Feel the sting of my mighty wrath! You feel that? That's WRATH-STING, that is! The mod posts on the banning, and should she really be backpeddling like that while drunk?

An alternate community springs up. At some point, the little honesty meme that could is also posted. Turns out, everyone in the random are wenches. Personally, if it involves those low-cut blouses and booze, I am so there, self-published novel or not.

And there's more! Seriously, it's like some sort of fandom TARDIS; small exterior, surprisely expansive interior of wank. Sidebar thoughts on fandom, the reminder that you don't drama against the DoC (...what?), the observation that this is just like Veronica Mars and Harry Potter and, of course, the inevitable request that everybody grow up.

Bonus real-life drama in that last post involving boyfriend-stealing and roommates breaking up or something. I'm not sure, I was too busy boggling over the sheer amount of splooge available from so small a source.

Quick! Before the FBI finds us!

[info]schuldig
Surprisingly close to April Fools' Day (and yet, not close enough), digisubbers Anime-Keep announce that they have been shut down by the FBI. In addition, anyone who used BitTorrent to download anime will be traced.

At AnimeSuki, this thread emerges as people debate how to reformat their hard-drives so They won't find all the illegal fansubs, most point and laugh at the obvious joke, and others threaten to never download another Anime-Keep release again OMG if this is just a practical joke.

Anime-Keep finally own up on their website:
(early) April Fools!

Though we must say we love you fans out there, nothing cheered us up more than seeing your crazy reactions to the early April Fools. I really feel sorry for thoses that did dig a hole for your CDs and format your hard drives, I wish you better luck next time!

ChibiDusk, one of the most terrified of the previous posters, now claims (s)he was bored and was just "being dramatical". Fun all round.
