ETA from ilinana: Banned!

Seems that the scans_daily LJ comm just got nuked. Moderator Scmevil has the details User Crantz is squarely blaming writer Peter David for getting the comm shut down.

Over in scans_daily today there was a post containing a recent xkcd strip about Nice Guys (TM).

Cue two-hundred comments worth of people arguing about whether people who makes friends with someone just in the hopes of eventually dating them are just shy and insecure, or if they're manipulative assholes.

It's not the most vicious wank in the world, but it does contain the occasional gem like:

"People like that need insulting if it helps them stop acting that way."

"Well, some say the same about women who keep staying in relationships where they get beaten."

Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Scans_daily gets a post with a preview of Volume 3 of Adam Warren's Empowered, a superhero comic about a incompetant superheroine who's always getting captured and tied up by somebody, or otherwise humiliated.

Anyway, gdwessel decides to do the unthinkable, and call Empowered "one of the worst fucking things I ever read".

And then the wank all kicks off from there...

Remember teh_no? He's been involved in some amusing wanks in the past, including "Fandom wimmins are sexist!", "I can totally pwn Warren Ellis!" and "You didn't comment on my fanfic, you pedo bitch!"

Back in November, brown_betty posted a few theories about teh_no, sockpuppets and scans_daily. This prompted surprisingly little fall-out.

Well, teh_no did comment on monkeycrackmary's journal asking, "What did I ever do to you?", apparently working on the principle that Betty is Mary's sockpuppet. And also on the principle that Mary would have forgotten teh_no calling her a pedophile. And there was a complicated little exchange on teh_no's journal. (Note that Betty's brutal expose was posted on November 15.)

But, all in all, rather quiet. Certainly nothing that ended up on f_w, anyway.

However, on December 13, teh_no posted: "So fast, my posts at fanficrants have inspired a metaquote and icons. I can only imagine that a movie offer is next. Oh, BB, I totally forgive you for all those things you said about me. Dissecting the badfic skeletons in your closet is more than worth your harsh words."

So, what badfic skeletons are in this mysterious "BB"'s closet?

Well, there's this one, this one and this one. Allegedly.

You see, the mod of weepingcock has spotted something:

"Is it possible that you would prefer not to link to the original author because the excerpts are from an online Hustler novel (this post, in particular, comes from page 10, BTW) and not, in fact, from Batman fanfic as you've previously claimed in fanficrants?"

Oops.

koshiroryuu then decides it's only fair to expose the badfic skeletons in teh_no's closet. And, oh boy, are there a lot.

Not that it's his fault, of course. A girl made him do it.

Over at Scans Daily, adora_spintriae posts scans from DC's "Brave New World" - a comic about the loss of magic from 99.9% of the DCU (Apparently, really powerful magic-powered characters like Captain Marvel and Black Adam are just fine).

The scans she posts depict Mary Marvel's powers going "poof" in mid air, and her subsequent plummet, which Adora takes offense to, as Captain Marvel only gets a bit of grey hair, and Captain Marvel Jr.'s powers get yoinked in the middle of a fight, which gets him tossed through a ground-level window.

kamino_neko points out that Judd Winnick states in an interview that both Mary and Junior will be a part of his upcoming "Trials of Shazam" mini-series, so Mary's probably not dead.

Adora states that this doesn't mean Mary doesn't go splat and get ressurected. She also sees this as evidence of DC's ongoing policiy of "Refrigeration", in that Mary's predicament is far more dire than her male counterparts.

Kamino thinks she's diluting the term "refrigeration" by using it for a character who is not currently being brutally killed.

And the green flag is waved on the wank!

Others chime in to wonder why Mary's predicament is so much worse than Junior's, seeing as his unpowered form is a cripple

Thanks to the impassioned ETA plea of the OP, this seems to have calmed down a bit, but contains such gems as to be worth sharing with the world.

Over on our old friend Scans_Daily, it's time to do that thing it does again. No, not that thing. No, not that other thing. Yeah, that thing. The one where people bitch about the slash.

doctorv makes a post of scans from Superman: Day Of Doom. Was the fact she put "Doom" in all caps in her subject line prescient or just coincidence? Who knows. But despite the billion and one previous posts of Blue Beetle/Booster Gold slash squeeage, a couple fairly tame Boostle mentions lead to a certain agentoneal getting mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore:

"You know... Booster and Beetle were never lovers, and to tell you the truth, it sort of upsets me that you'd think that. I mean come on. A guy can't have a best friend without being his lover too?"

It's S_D. You know they weren't just going to casually overlook something like that, right?

Scans_Daily is a community for comics fans, especially unrepentant slashers and people who find them amusing. Like me.

So the other day, raefire makes a post containing some newspaper strips and a single page from Disney's Kim Possible comic, thus following the community rules of having at least one comic book page in the post.

But since there's news paper strips, badficwriter drops trou and proceeds with the spooging. Small, but you can already smell the friction burn.

allaine77 doesn't like Catwoman's current black leather costume, and posts three scans of the purple early 90's Catwoman to illustrate his point. People comment along the lines of "naw", "*shrugs*", "CATWOMAN! <3", "purple!" or "leather!".

Alas, it seems that the majority does not prefer purple spandex. allaine77 discusses the sad state of the world with a secret friend, and decides that he cannot keep silent. And so the post is edited to add. Oh, he's sure he will be banned for it, but "sometimes a personal principle is important enough to risk losing a community membership"...
