It's not FOR you, Jen

[info]themadscientist
Nintendo set the Internet afire yesterday with the announcement of a (mostly expected) $50.00 price cut on the Wii U, three different ways to buy Wind Waker (including one with a Ganon action figure)
and oh yeah

They are planning to release a new redesign of the 3DS called a "2DS" on the same day of Pokemon X and Y. It's only $130.00 and looks like a tablet. Supposedly this version is aimed at people who don't want to use the 3D and for children lower than seven years of age.

Which naturally means that the Internet collectively loses their bananas.

Responses range from:
I don't get it
to it's ugly and who is it aimed at
to complaining about complaining about the 2DS is prejudice
SHUT UP AND STOP COMPLAINING IT'S NOT FOR YOU
and SCUZE ME WHERE IS MY 5DS NOW (I like this one a lot)
seriously this is dumb

The biggest trolling went on Nintendo's YouTube page, as trolls and critics went directly to the source. Hence why the announcement is now not showing ratings nor allowing comments (warning: loud 8-bit music).

You can browse the 2DS tumblr tags for more.

Luckily, Iwata and Black Nerd Rants seem to have explained the matter, as the anger has (mostly) quieted down now.

BUT I ALREADY CAUGHT THEM ALL DAMMIT

[info]themadscientist
Gamefreak and Nintendo promised an "evolution" of Pokemon earlier this week. Fans were excited, with most expecting an announcement for the sixth generation.
And indeed, there is going to be a brand new set of games, Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, released in October.

So you can imagine where this is going...
WHY THE HELL DO I GOTTA BUY A BRAND NEW SYSTEM FOR THIS GREEDY BASTARDS
I'm done except if they release Ruby and Sapphire
It's different why is it different
They look like Neopets but I'm not a genwunner!
REAL fans are excited. Fans that bash are stupid!
Hi jut wanted to tell you Gen 1 is still the best bye
It's just sad that we don't get what we want because we want nostalgia okay

The Grepolonnesian War

[info]isntitironic
These are the writings of [info]isntitironic of [info]fandom_wank, which she posts, in the hope of thereby preserving from deletion the rememberance of what players have said, and preventing the wanky and ridiculous actions of both sides from losing their due meed of mockery; and withal to put on record what were the grounds of the wank.

Right. If you're on YouTube much, you've seen ads for Grepolis, which is actually not a bad little game in which you build ancient Greek cities and can have battles with other players. For mutual protection, players organize themselves into Alliances. Within an Alliance there are positions like leader, diplomat, etc. You can read more about it on the Wiki if you're curious. The world the game occurs in is divided into areas called oceans, and within the alliance each one has an ocean leader (OL), who coordinates whatever wars are going on in that ocean.

I belong to an alliance called the Phalanx, led by Ms. Sapphire Sorrows, and today I logged in to find this in my inbox:

I am going to bed soon and i want to be sure that EVERYONE knows exactly what is happening. )

ETA: Filip quits. He's so sad to go:

Everything I have done was for the alliance improvement. )

Collectors VS Bronies: The Hoofening

[info]overlord_mordax
The My Little Pony fandom, as some of you know, has been around for a long time. A relatively small, but enduring fandom, it is made up mostly of crafty-type ladies who like pink ponies. But it has recently seen a spike in members due to the new show, Friendship is Magic, which has attracted well... there is no other way to say it, /b/rothers to the fandom. Naturally, there is some strife.

The latest round appears to have kicked off when the Bronies on facebook are less than happy that the official Comic-con pony is G3 style, not FiM style.

Meanwhile, a new billboard ad is released. They discuss it at the arena.

This gets the pot a bit stirred up over at the MLP arena, as one Collector sees a bit of favoritism in how the Facebook page addresses its members..

A FiM fan wonders what is with all the Brony hate.

Collectors strike back! With... pictures of adorable ponies?

What does Brony even mean?

The mods politely suggest an end to the bickering. Everyone pretends there wasn't an argument to begin with.

There is so much more of this around, especially on the facebook page, but I could not cull through it all.

TF2 is free, cue the rage

[info]braisinhussy
This week, Valve has been releasing the Über Update for Team Fortress 2. This culminated in the long-anticipated Meet the Medic video. It's awesome, go watch it.

And that wasn't all. It has been announced that Team Fortress 2 will now be free to play. Not just for a weekend. Forever.

Awesome, right?

Henry Miller has a fandom...and it's pretty damn vocal.

[info]tez
Sex scenes can be really funny. Badly-written sex scenes can be absolutely hilarious. Since there are a lot of badly-written sex scenes in the world, the denizens of LJ's [info]weepingcock take it upon themselves to select the best of the worst and laugh uproariously at it. Or cringe. Or possibly laugh uproariously in a cringing fashion. It depends on the excerpt.

Anyhow, [info]pirsquar posts this amazing excerpt, for the enjoyment of the entire community.

My ovaries are incandescing at the thought of this quote. )

The reaction is a standard mix of 'lol', 'wtf', and 'OW'...

...at least, until Loyal Defender Of The Literary Mighty [info]deborahkla charges in to express her displeasure with the mere posting of this blurb.

Why?

Because it was written by Henry Miller.

Apparently, if you are a Noted Figure Of Literature, you are incapable of writing bad porn, regardless of what our eyes might be telling us. She makes sure to inform us of this. She even did it twice, in the exact same wording.

Her learnings, let her show us them. )

Despite the condescending tone, the [info]weepingcock natives are actually quite reasonable in pointing out that funny sex is not discriminating, and 'great authors' are not immune to mockery if they write and publish something weepingcock-worthy. For [info]deborahkla, however, 'reasonable disagreement' translates into 'OMFG EVERYONE'S ATTACKING ME'. So she attacks back...despite not being attacked in the first place. (She has mastered the use of the c&p comment, for sure -- there are several in there that she copies verbatim into multiple threads.)

She also flounces out of the community.

The only problem there is that she keeps right on posting answers to comments, actively telling people that 'she's out of the community now'. Her logic flaw is pointed out to her numerous times.

She reacts, naturally, by doing the most reasonable, mature thing possible.

She messages the mods.

Mods, they're being meeeeeeean to meeeee! )

I don't know about all of you, but I definitely feel my ovaries incandescing right now.

Drabble-o, drabble-o, wherefore art thou drabble-o?

[info]tez
Once upon a time, there was a lonely drabble. “How I wish I could be more than 100 words long,” it sighed wistfully.

Over time, fandom granted the drabble its wish. Its meaning drifted, expanding further and further, until finally some allowed it to encompass a large number of short fics.

Its newfound happiness was cut short, however, when [info]catchester claimed anyone who said the drabble could ever be more than 100 words was ignorant and a twit.

The drabble’s spirit was crushed, but happily it found [info]catchester alone was unable to take its shiny new status away.

The End.

Huh? Wank? What's going on with that wank?

[info]anarchicq
Ah, Silent Hill wank.

Fungo is a somewhat controversial personality in the Silent Hill fandom. You see, at first he was praised because he provided a service, which was sharing most of the in-game videos, OSTs, Documentaries and other lovely things at his site Silent Hill Media.

Then Silent Hill 0rigins came out and he hated it. He hated it and everyone who liked it.

Then Silent Hill Homecoming came out and he hate it too. The people who liked it were idiots who didn't get Silent Hill like he did.

So, this month Fungo and his pals released his long awaited Silent Hill documentary called The Real Silent Hill Experience.

It clocks in at 3 and a half hours long, and what a treat it is!

At first it tries to pass itself off as an analysis but it comes across as a plot synopsis. Interesting footage choices are utilized such as the case when footage of getting one's foot stuck in a bear trap in Resident Evil is used to prove that Silent Hill's controls are superior.

But let's go deeper into the ...interesting...narrative choices, such as:

-Devolving into flailing their limbs to get the point across.

-Talking down to fans.

-Using really, really shoddy arguments to back their points.

-Being dull. They never leave the couch. And while people like Linkara almost never leave the couch, they can actually write jokes.

-Playing the dog song over the scenes with Sean Bean's character while analyzing the movie, which Phelous did a year ago.

-Calling the female cop character Cybil a "butch dyke" when "analyzing" the movie adaptation, then berating the sexism in the movie.

-Reading the quotes by composer and producer Akira Yamaoka in bad Engrish in an insulting attempt at humor.

Fans are not happy.

On the LJ side of the fandom, they start to feel bored and talked down to, two horrible combinations!

But it really gets good on the Silent Hill forums. It starts on
page 2 of the SH forums, where people start to have ...concerns.

But but by page 3 it devolves into "what is humour?"

Also, apparently Fungo's crew is deleting comments by mean people who disagree with their documentary but so far I think that's just hearsay.

The producer of SH:Shattered Memories comments! So does some other important guy!

Over on Silent Hill Community we learn that there have been edits made to the documentary regarding the strategy guide.

As of this writing there are 7 pages on SHF and 17 on SHC.

(Spoilers abound for all of Silent Hill, of course)

Carl Anderson, webcomic writer, posts a comic in which he blames American Doctor Who fans for local retailers failing since they all buy on eBay. >:( ...And, calls them stupid, lazy, fat and a few other things, and claims that they deserve to get their show cancelled!

Someone has decided that enough is enough, and it is now time to cleanse the Pit of Voles FF.net of all that ails it. And that someone is the Literate Union! Motto: "well here are the people who are going to give it anyways!"

"It", apparently, being concrit or flaming. You know, whichever you prefer.

"The LU -- The Literate Union -- is a society that helps to improve the quality of stories on FanFiction that either break the rules or are poorly written. In the case of the latter, we try to help the author, bringing their piece up to standard. Difficult cases are reported to the admins."

credit to white_serpent for finding these links in the first place

[info]sepiamagpie
Laurell K Hamilton starts off a post entitled: Bleeding on my Keyboard. It starts off with a quote from Leo Tolstoy and some vivid blood talk. Anyway, it's about her book going slow.

It ends with:

The way I write is not for everyone, God knows, but for me it’s the only way I know. It’s the way I’ve always written. It is not a safe way to do this job, but when I dance with the muse it is always a thing of battles, and violence; shared pain and joy. Right now Anita is hurting and so am I, the only thing I can try to do is to keep her pain off of my “real” life, and my pain off of hers. Her problems are not mine, and mine are not hers. Some separation must remain or we will both go mad. Or maybe we’ll simply weep.

Oh, also she says most other authors are big fakes.

Strangely, not everyone is impressed by whatever it was Hamilton was going for above.

It is then brought to discussion on the amazon boards, where the comments start out fairly positive but things start to take a turn for the worst on page one. (To quote [info]white_serpent: Amazon commenters: Cool! And Armintrout's books are good! No, they're bad! Unprofessional! Laurell's delusional! Pot/Kettle! Let's break out the threats of violence! (And that's just the first two pages.))

Hamilton's my favourite part, though.

Ohh noes!

[info]lessis
Toshirodragon has been banned from the bjd forum Den of Angels for "exessive rudeness"

What triggered the ban was comment since lost(unless I can find caps) the gist of which treated anyone who buys decent clothing for their expensive dolls who freaked out if people breathed on the dolls as snobs and elitist. Full of hyperbole and exaggeration.

People objected to the labels

April: Hmmm... no one likes to be labeled! I'm older and I like to buy fancy outfits. I don't have a fit about people touching or holding my dolls at all--unless they're all grabby-hands and clumsy or messy!

I have made clothes for my dolls before--but I'm not great at sewing and I don't have a sewing machine--so that limits things. Besides--it always ends up WAY more expensive when I try and make stuff myself--buying all the supplies and materials. Seriously! I've ended up spending way more than if I'd just gone out and bought or commissioned stuff on the few times I've tried doing it all myself. (It's dangerous going into Michael's and JoAnn's... !)

I don't mind hanging about with people of whatever age, anyway. I'm used to hanging with young and old!

Totally agree, April. Generalizations make me

Right now, my boys are dressed in a variety of outfits ranging from expensive through to casual stuff which cost a fraction of the price of the fancier outfits.

I would love to make some outfits, but it would be a huge learning curve for me since sewing was about my worst subject in school

Then there's also the fact that, although I have a sewing machine, materials and the desire, what I sorely lack is time. There's my full-time job, a house to keep organised and clean and there's also the fact that dolls are not my only hobby, so time is at a premium for me. Even when I take my holidays and promise myself that this time I will fit in some sewing, it never happens that way I do live in hope, though.</i>

Toshirodragon's response was to edit her original comment to say. I apologize to everyone I have offended. I will go out and sell my dolls now, cut my wrists, shave my head and join a nunnery.

NOW will you be satisfied....

Oh and I unsubscribed from this thread so all you histrionics were unnecessary. And thanks for the tattling, adults REALLY do do that better than children.

and added a new post
Oh whatever people... my god I made an off hand comment designed to put one person's fears of being the oldest in the crowd to rest and a few people act like I blew snot on your favorite outfits.

Buy frickin Dollheart I DONT CARE! But I will say that of the collectors I've come in contact with the ones who DONT buy Dollheart have been the funnest to hang with.

Now I'm going to bed.

The banhammer fell shortly after that.

Toshirodragon then took it to LJ on her doll community Red_shoelacers

Ohh noes! Full of her own perceived superiority and persecution complex, referencing other fights she's had with people in the past. Snacky's law violation. And plans to get around the ban link

The Adventure of the Special Snowflake

tetradecimal
It was a frosty morning on the 29th of December when I was surprised to find Holmes already awake and active, pacing back and forth in a show of nervous energy before the hearth in a manner that suggested he had been waiting for me to arise for some time. Upon catching sight of me, he immediately presented me with a single piece of paper, now fraying slightly about the lines upon which it had been carefully folded.

Come, Watson -- the game's afoot! )

No fur bashing plz

[info]oulangi
Meet Lironess, a person of such stunning perfection that she feels confident, nay obliged, to point out the shortcomings of others. Constantly.

When she's not diagnosing diseases over the internet, she's apparently advocating approaching strangers at cons with skin diseases to ask them:

"OMG What the hell is wrong with your skin?"

Yeah, not even kidding*.

Unfortunately no one told [info]betnoir that icky diseased people exist solely as teaching moments for the beautiful people, and that she better learn to live with it or else spend the rest of her life in misery. Luckily for her then, that [info]lironess is here to explain it to her.

The spat lands in [info]sf_drama, where [info]lironess baleeted her most offensive comments (though considering what's left - just WOW) and apparently whole threads if bizarro goodness like handing out condoms to furries, and horse sex, and her inability to spell freak. she then demonstrates her utter lack of getting teh internets, as well as proving that there really isn't a maximum fail quota per post.

After calling like, everyone, a coward or accusing them of hiding (for commenting in an unlocked post in a very public community? huh?) [info]lironess prepares her flounce by calling [info]betnoir (and everyone else) out. As in, *cue scareh music* she can FIND people:

"It has been fun to watch you all hide on a community and make your statements thinking I would not see and reply. However, I can find all of you, any where."

[info]betnoir names a place and time.

but yanno, it's waaaay to far, plus it'd be a hassle and [info]betnoir's fucking parents would sue and it would be a big mess and [info]lironess doesn't care enough to bother. Or something.

*I debated if this should be in UNF because disability!fail = so fucking unfunny, plus there's bonus!fail on both sides, but for sheer overwhelming WTF wankiness I think it belongs here.

Say you're a member of ontd_ai and you're getting a bit tired of the fanfic posts, the idol appreciation posts, the way a particular mod runs things, and anything else you feel doesn't fit the ~true spirit~ of the community. There's only one thing to do!

Start a super-secret elite comm where you and 26 of your friends (including some ontd_ai mods) can plan the upheaval of the 5000-member community, including abrupt fanfic banning and gif trolling of appreciation posts and anyone who objects, or course!

This involved heavily trolling an appreciation post for Megan, one of the AI competitors from the latest season, with gifs and insults. EDIT2: Found it! There are pockets of drama all over the place, but the big stuff is on page six here.

this is getting long, so i'm cutting it )

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

[info]sepiamagpie
Oh fair and forgiving denizens of fandom wank, it has come time for us to choose a new champion. Or a new mod, at least. You may have noticed us fading away, like beautiful unicorns. But no more!

Before you are the tasks three that must be completed for consideration:

1. You must locate a truly funny wank. It may be in our archives.
2. A golden apple. You may be creative.
3. Ten disney icons (edit: This can also be Pixar). Sep wants disney icons.

Those that complete this task will be brought before the oracle of Phosfate to hear their fate!

There will be prizes for participation, although they are best described as 'crappy'. Oh, and the mod prize.

AND WE'RE DONE. PRIZES IN NEXT POST

Complaining privately to the mods is for SISSIES!

[info]elektra3
Over at the OOC community for Dramadramaduck, an RPing community, an anonymous, severely butthurt poster would like everyone in the community to know that some of the people playing there are MEAN and suck at RPing:

This is kinda like a RP secrets post. And no, I'm not a troll or stalker or whatever. I RP in DramaDramaDuck. There are many reasons why I am not using my personal journal or any of my character journals. And before you say anything, no, it's not a case of being a coward. If I were to reveal my identity it would cause a lot of problems in this comm and between my many friends here.

Anyway, I'm not happy with the way things have been lately. When I came here I was treated like the replacement. I kept hearing about how great the person before me did with the character I'm RPing now and how I'm not doing the character any justice. It's also been implied that maybe I should just give it up and pick someone else to RP.

DDD's D.N.Angel team and Kingdom Hearts team....sucks. You people are such snobs when it somes to RPinng. The person who plays Dark annoys me. Axel is played way too OOC it doesn't even fit anymore. Roxas and Marluxia are nowhere in sight but the taken characters list shows that someone is playing them both. Larxene is played horribly and don't even get me started on Daisuke and Hiwatari.

I'm not a happy here, though I don't want to leave since I've been RPing here for a very long time.

Other highlights include:

"The reasons for my annonimity are complicated though. You could never understand becuase you and the others have already casted me out."

"Hey how about you gripe about players that actually legitimately suck."

"I just hope that upsetting people who put a lot of effort into this game is enough to make you feel better about the crushing pain that is somebody playing a character not quite the way you'd like it." "It is."
