Someone didn't get the message that Friendship is Magic

[info]fern_on_fen
Brief disclaimer: this wank, while funny, there is, quoth a fellow FW member, "one dickbag who starts using slurs." There are one or two instances of this. For the most part, I've tried to minimize these insults.

Anyway, it's more pony!wank.

Equestira Daily is a fansite for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, with a very specific group of fans: /b/ronies, or those who have come to the show through 4chan. It’s neat layout, regular updates, and ability to break Pony-related news, however, has made it pretty indispensable for any fans of the show.

You’d think that a place originally created and geared to 4channers would be pretty inhospitable all year round. However, as you might have learned from this previous wank, MLP:FiM has really softened its /b/ronies. Hell, they’ve even held events like Derpy Day, an event dedicated to sending messages of friendship, as well as sharing muffins, with people.

Anyway, this is a fandom website, and as such, you might find pictures and images dedicated to shipping. There’s even smushed names; for instance, AppleDash refers to pairing pony Applejack with Rainbow Dash. Shipping is a little controversial in MLP:FiM, because all the characters are ponies, or at the very least, some manner of animal (griffon, zebra, buffalo…). There has been some discussion of whether this is furry or not, but for the most part, people have learned to stay away from things with [Shipping] labels if they don’t like pony!ships, and people are usually tolerant of shipping discussions in comments to more general posts.

Usually.

Cottonmouth is not supportive of the alternative lifestyles of lesbian ponies. In the comments for the post discussing the latest episode, he was displeased with some casual shipping discussion. (Specific shipping comments can be found at the beginning of the comments in this post. As you can see, pretty tame, talking about cute moments, and done in a polite fashion).

More drama under the cut )

PS: If you want to see an example of the guy's fic, I recommend this story in which he personally insults fandom for liking an ascended meme character (Derpy Hooves), ends by saying “And then they had lesbian sex” in the belief that this will increase readership, kills off one of the main characters, and insults another fandom member by implying that he plays too many video games via a music video. Oh, that Cottonmouth. He's a real gem.

Reasoned and reasonable literary criticism, Kradam-style

[info]urpletastic
First attempt at posting, although I've been barracking from the sidelines for about a millennium now ...

[info]astolat posts A Matter Of Inconvenience, which is American Idol slashfic (Kris/Adam) with a 'Regency' setting. At least, that's the general idea, and harmless enough you would have thought - assuming that AI AU RPS is your thing. (Alphabet soup!)

[info]zvi, however, takes exception. Amongst other objections, A Matter of Inconvenience is not about race, thoughtlessly invokes colonial issues, and just doesn't put up any warning flags for those who are about to read it. Also, apparently, this is a thing Astolat fucked up. Everybody, please to endeavor not to fuck up like that with your next happy fun sexytimes historical.

What starts off as moderately polite discussion about historicity in slash fanfiction is, however, quickly derailed by [info]willow who offers the following reasoned evaluation: In the middle of the cuppa tea, the empire waist dresses and the ass-sex of your AU Regency - please to be remembering the hydra heads of colonialism and imperialism and what that means for and about your whitey white penis salt lick fan thought of the moment.

[info]liviapenn tries to calm things down a bit with some entertaining stuff about plumbers and blow jobs but this only serves to upset [info]willow further. Why is it that everytime I see you lately, you're happily shoving your foot into your mouth via your hindquarters? ... You keep claiming to understand your privilege and say you're reflecting on it and then you start chomping that feces encrusted shoe leather again. [info]willow's User Info states "'M brown and I have an attitude." No kidding.

[info]astolat's attempt to explain herself gets stomped on, and the desirability of historical accuracy in a Kris/Adam Regency alternate universe is lathered, rinsed and repeated for those who missed it the first time.

Small, but strangely vitriolic given the subject matter. It's difficult to imagine why people are getting quite so over-excited about one piece of costumed fluff in a universe of lesbian cars and tentacle porn, but it may keep us entertained while we're waiting for next incarnation of VB.

ETA: Okay, I get the message, I got it wrong - or maybe I just don't have a sense of humour? Either way, it was obviously a bad call. Lesson learned.

Also I know the ponies hate me

[info]ari_o
snatched from [info]wank_report

"Someone" posts a secret (#114 now bahleeted--caps?) on [info]fandomsecrets and the image is stored on her easily identifiable photobucket account. She claims to be lonely and not have any friends and she wishes the Avatar characters were her RL friends. But she means local friends, not imaginary intarweb bitches her LJ friends.

Responses are mostly of the "Oh, snap!" variety except for the "What am I? Chopped liver?" one. It's really a very mild response though [info]yukinoomoni is outed by name.

She doesn't overreact at all: )

eta: F_W is not your therapist. If you can't lol at a wank maybe you need to go for a walk. I thought this was funny. lol sociopath.

Paula makes more sense than this.

[info]loquaciousquark
Say you're a member of ontd_ai and you're getting a bit tired of the fanfic posts, the idol appreciation posts, the way a particular mod runs things, and anything else you feel doesn't fit the ~true spirit~ of the community. There's only one thing to do!

Start a super-secret elite comm where you and 26 of your friends (including some ontd_ai mods) can plan the upheaval of the 5000-member community, including abrupt fanfic banning and gif trolling of appreciation posts and anyone who objects, or course!

This involved heavily trolling an appreciation post for Megan, one of the AI competitors from the latest season, with gifs and insults. EDIT2: Found it! There are pockets of drama all over the place, but the big stuff is on page six here.

this is getting long, so i'm cutting it )

The Russet Doom Saga, Part V

[info]caito
So who's been wondering what's been going on with Lady Sybilla and the Russet Doom Saga? I know I haven't! But here we are regardless.

First there was this May 5 message to FanHistory editor Tikatu on her talk page:
Hi, Tikatu. I noticed you've been the most frequent editor of the Russet Noon article, so I'm sending you an update on the "Blood Roses" image by Charli Siebert. I just received an email from her, informing me that she does not want me to use her image for the cover of the book.

Charli wrote to Sybilla: "Unfortunately, I do not give out permission for use of my work in any way, so you'll have to find another cover for your book."

Charli also added, "All of your advertising and marketing of the book containing the image will need to be removed from any and all publications. This includes all print advertising and websites that display the image. If there are websites that you are aware of that are displaying the book cover in question, it is your responsibility to contact them and inform them that they need to remove the image from their site."

Based on Charli's specific request, I am asking that you please remove the old Russet Noon cover currently on display in the article. And, if it's not too much to ask, please add a note to the article to confirm that Russet Noon will have a new cover image before it gets published. Please let me know if you need me to upload a screencap of Charli's email as proof.

Last part of the update is that Charli and I are in negotiations to have her create a new image exclusively for the new Russet Noon cover.

Thanks very much.

Artistic revolution 07:45, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Consider also this newly-added apology on the Russet Noon website:
On behalf of AV Paranormal and Russet Noon, we'd like to offer our sincerest apologies to Charli Siebert, the creator of "Blood Roses," the above image. We had used this image for the cover of Russet Noon under the mistaken assumption that it was a royalty-free image. Even though this image will no longer be on the cover of Russet Noon, we are extremely proud to announce that Charli Siebert is in negotiations with Lady Sybilla to design an image exclusively for the cover of Russet Noon. We look forward to revealing the new cover of the novel. Please click on "Blood Roses" to visit Charli Siebert's official site, Unimaginative.org.
As for Wikipedia, it looks like Potato Moon's page is pretty safe from deletion for the moment. The article currently identifies Russet Noon by name, with the explanation, "Stephenie Meyer uses the word "russet" numerous times throughout the Twilight Saga to describe the color of Jacob Black's skin." You will never guess who edited the article to include that superfluous information. The change occurred after this conversational exchange:

Ladysybilla: "Hi, IceCreamEmpress. I was wondering if it would be possible to add a link to the Potato Moon section that acknowledges which fanfic the round robin is satirizing. The entry now only refers to Potato Moon, but it doesn't specify which announcement the round robin is satirizing. The only link listed is to Peter David's blog. Is this okay to do? Thanks."
IceCreamEmpress: "Thanks for your message. It seems to me that the entry has all the sourcing it needs at the moment, but of course if you would like the entry to read differently, you are always free to edit it; be assured that I have no feelings of ownership about it. Enjoy!"

Oh, and how is old PAD's circle jerk parody novel coming er, going? Well, it's up to, like, Part 20, but I haven't read it past the first chapter so I can't tell you whether it's any good.

And now, for funsies! Sybsy's now been namedropped in the Small Name Big Ego article on TVTropes.
Aaaaaand we now have the QUEEN of this trope for Twilight fandom: Lady Sybilla, whom no one had apparently ever even heard of before in the fandom before she became the writer (and attempted publisher) of "tribute sequel" Russet Noon, and convinced the entire internet is made up of one person with a grudge against her after the fandom at large and fandom_wank told her that her understanding of copyright was... flawed at best. She was banned from The Other Wiki after refusing to believe that her "highly controversial" unreleased fanfic wasn't notable enough and continually reinstated its article. Try to read the Russet Doom Saga in all its glory and not boggle.
And for a little added lubrication? Lady Sybilla Apologizes to Stephenie Meyer for Writing Russet Noon. Why yes, that IS another press release, fresh just today! I c&ped it here in case you don't want to contribute to her page views (and she'll probably take it down again as soon as she has another change of universal mind anyway). She's also updated her Twitter for the first time since April as well.

I just returned from a nine-day trip, so I'm playing a bit of catch-up with my supplementary links list and link hub/screencap guide; I appreciate your patience. And you know what else I appreciate? When I got home this morning, you will never guess what I found waiting for me in my mail box. Except that you totally will.

It was lip gloss.

ETA: So I clicked a link back to the Russet Noon site, and found myself in a time warp. It seems Sybilla's reverted to her original format after so long. But before you start thinking she just fuxxored the files, check out the links at the top. She links to: her own Twitter, Comic Mix, Google News, Foforks, Wordpress, her own Myspace, IMDB, Wikipedia, the Wall Street Journal, Twilight Blips, FanHistory, Fanpop, the Small Name Big Ego TvTropes article, Amazon forums, the reupload of her reading the preface on tinypic, Buzznet, ONTD, Fandom Wank, the Twilight Lexicon, and Edward Heart Bella.

Screencaps forthcoming here (thanks ari_o).

Also we may have missed another in-between site version. Did anyone catch a screencap?) You can view the last edit to the Russet Noon site before this latest revamp here, where she had added the "temporary model" for Russet Noon's new cover art.
Below is a temporary model of the new Russet Noon cover image that Charli will be recreating. The copyright information for the artist of this talisman is currently unknown. Hopefully the efficient fandomwankers will help us track down the artist who originally created this talisman so we can give them credit. This is just a sample image of what the final design will look like.
She wants us to do her homework for her. Great.

ETA 2: I'm reasonably certain the Russet_noon twitterer is taking the piss. I quite like the blend of Snacky's and Godwin's Law lobbed our way.

ETA 3: FanHistory has given Lady Sybilla a space to speak her point of view. It's... uhmazing.

ETA 4: She took out her link to the Twilight Lexicon and added a new one to this article from RelateMag.com, which spells the title of the book Russet Moon. Still, I prefer this version of the RelateMag article:
There’s a ‘new’ Twilight words that is dated people to charge alarming waves across the the public. Sure you’ve irrefutably impute to a fraction of fanfiction stories that takes the Twilight psycho we fondness and puts them in bizarre scenes, rewrites parts of the books, adds scenes prospect to be missing. The words is all fustian up to Jacob and what happens after Breaking Dawn. But Lady Sybilla has written an uninjured words entitled Russet Moon and she’s flourishing to advertise it. Some people improvise it is flourishing to be smashing addict fiction. Others imagine it is unconditionally miscarry. To affect the dip on the words button the website.
It's like it went through Babel Fish and crawled back out again, weeping bitterly about its lost messages and implications.

Fail mods are failing

[info]sepiamagpie
Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Anyway, you got today instead.

Stop anticipating things, we'll just break your hearts.

Sincerely,

Sepia P. Magpie, Esq.

PS: Use this post to reflect on how you could be better people. Or just fuck around in the comments.

[info]seiberwing
[info]fanficrants. It's been a while.

[info]maiyri rants about how someone (supposedly) left a long and rather mean-spirited review to a twelve-year-old's fanfic, then goes on to tell how how she bravely defended against the author's attack on this review and received an asterisk-filled reply for her troubles. [info]fanficrants responds by saying she'd been a wee bit rude.

She makes another post the same day, complaining that no one gave her anything useful. It is at this point that she is banned.

But wait, that's not all! It turns out the whole thing was secretly a social experiment for her psychology class. The mods LOL.

But was it? (EDIT: Journal deleted, caps here) Perhaps she was simply poking fun at fandom in general, or perhaps she's just a doof. The world may never know, and since she doesn't seem to want to reply to the comments I doubt it's anything useful.

Bonus not-apology the next post over,(EDIT: caps here) just to round this out.

EDIT: The matter's discussed on ffrantsrants here, here (where it seems the girl being ranted about found FFR, unfortunately, and is now quitting fanfiction), here, and here.

SECOND EDIT: Oh, and this is totally not her defending herself anonymously. Nuh uh.

EDIT THE MOTION PICTURE: And now she's deleted her LJ, along with her multiple ff.net accounts. Apparently someone just can't take criticism.

EDIT AND THE HACKERS OF LJ: And she's somewhat back, after both her accounts and LJ were mysteriously deleted by hackers.

My favourite show on TV has just become the new "Dallas"!

[info]mistressrenet
On Prison Break, which might be the most interesting show I've never watched....

Spoilers under the cut )

Put together from mousey reports on [info]wank_report (thanks guys!), so if I have anything messed up about the show, I apologize.

Best part of all? [info]anisapologist's LJ is called "Karma Works."

I don't think that word means what you think it means, honey.

How NOT to Date a Celebrity

[info]criticalcricket
Secrets kept popping up on Fandom Secrets hinting at a person who was convinced that they were dating Zachary Quinto of Heroes fame. Most people didn't know what was going on until the other day, when [info]freetheelves2 pops out of the woodworks to tell us that she was getting bored. People asked for an explanation and things quickly devolved. I had posted to fandom lounge asking about the situation and as it devolved into wank [info]twentythree posted it to clairvoyantwank.

The next day, the entire thread of wank disappears. Too bad the internet never forgets (it's a zip file with saved webpages). Another thread is started to discuss the deletion. It's decided that they should take it to a private journal to save it from all these mysterious deletions (about three threads have been deleted at this point). [info]cazrolime creates a post to discuss the situation. The discussion of this thread on FS is later deleted.

This is where the fun stuff begins. It comes to light that [info]freetheelves2 is using her psychic mother to figure out who's been posting secrets about her and sending her 800+ f-list after them. And her point of contact with Zachary Quinto is her 12-year-old medium sister. That's right folks, apparently she's dating him on the astral plane! And he sends her letters and family heirloom earrings through spirits, through her medium sister...or something.

All is full of lulz until the cavalry arrives to defend their friend's honor and break Snacky's Law. They staunchly defend freetheelves' sanity, while slinging around the word moot (which apparently meand vagina down under). The defenders start taking a page from freetheelves' book and deleting their comments as they are attacked by mice enraged by their comparisons to current tragedies in the news and attempted guilt trips about the possibility of freetheelves hurting herself.

And if that wasn't a fun enough romp for you, the mice and [info]medoroa bring the funny with an amusing exchange of Sylar/Mohinder wedding photos.

Edited: [info]freetheelves2 addresses the issues and breaks Snacky's Law and she is already aware of our presence. Thanks a lot numbnuts mouse.

Edited again: Annoying sock is annoying revealed to be a freetheelves supporter. What a surprise.

A Note to the Mice (and anyone else asking)
We actually have rules here on Fandom Wank. Rule number 6 states Do not link to locked material. So no matter how much you want proof or lulz or whatever from FTE's super sekrit filter posts, you can't have them. Please stop being morons and asking for them. Certainly don't post them! The mods will take your mouse power away.

Hey look! A mouse wrote this wank a Theme Song!

Yet Another Edit: Some of the former super secret filter friends are doing a little Q&A Thread.

A Note to the Mice (and anyone else asking) Part 2
Snacky says "summarizing the flocked posts is pretty much a no-go here too. This is a JF-wide thing, not just a FW thing, and we'd really like not to piss off the JF admins and respect their wishes."

Let's review:
Don't link to locked posts.
Don't ask to be linked to locked posts.
Don't c&p locked posts.
Don't encourage the posting of locked posts.
Don't summarize locked posts.
Don't [verb of your choice] locked posts!

"OMG! You pointed out her plagiarism, you horrible meanie!"

[info]pyratejenni
Over on LJ, [info]psycholullaby posts about some plagiarized FMA fan art. [info]dramaqueen9731 posted a "You hurt her feelings! Shame on you!" comment then deleted it, but [info]psycholullaby posted it in an ETA for posterity. Not to be outdone, some other naive schmuck poor soul tries to makes a similar point. Needless to say, no one on the thread busy it

At some point, according to her ETAs, the plagiarized art was taken down, and the offender, esteltinuviel, posts a Heidipology comparing herself to Gandhi and MLK Jr.

[info]psycholullaby isn't pleased, and posts the screencaps of the plagiarized artwork.

It's kinda nice to see FMA wank. It's been a while.

ETA: For your viewing pleasure, comparisons of the artwork in question. Tip o' the hat to [info]onaga for grabbing the link, because I was lazy.

The Apology Song

[info]vigilanterodent
From a mousey over on [info]wank_report. A few days stale, yet too hilarious to pass up:

mseverchanging, whom you may recall as kakyuu_kou, has decided to apologize for all her previous misdeeds! (I know she's been here before, but am unable to find the link(s) – anyone able to help a wanka out? Previous wanks featuring Ms. Everchanging may be found here, here, and (in the comments) here. Many thanks to [info]mochibuni!)

Things get off to an awesome start within a few paragraphs, with the OP taking Godwin to new heights by comparing herself to . . . well, just read the sentence:

What in gods name can I even begin to say to you to make the things I've said and done in the past even look shy in comparison to Hitler and what he did to the Jewish community?

After providing her mea culpas to twenty people – with promises of more to come! – she opens up the floor to comments.

And oh, how the comments keep on coming.

There is also a graphic of a cat-tank, I'm not sure what to think of that.

As bonus wank, iamthecosplayer makes a post about the whole thing here, and a lot of "Plz be defriending me kthx" wankery spawns in the comments.

ETA: Oh noes!!! iamthecosplayer has been suspended.

ETA Strikes Back, courtesy [info]sailorjpg: When avian_firefly refers to the OP's otherkin activities here, she is apparently referencing this weird shit. Not part of the wank at hand, per se, but too awesome to pass up.

Revenge of the ETA, again courtesy [info]sailorjpg: Unscreen My Comments, Bitch, the smash hit Broadway musical. With complimentary screencaps!

"A question to the girls"

[info]telophase
OP: Haven't you ever noticed how a lot of girls read Death Note only for TEH HAWT bishounen?

A lot of girls: No.

OP: No, wait. By "alot", I meant "a few".

230+ posts and counting.

ETA: We've achieved Godwin! And now the OP is starting to freeze threads! Can BAH-LEETION be far behind? If anyone wants to start screencapping, I've got webspace to host.

ETA 2: The OP has left a "I wasn't insulting at all except to the girls I was referring to in my original post nyah nyah so there" message, with replies frozen so he doesn't have to listen to rebuttals. Saved here in case of BAHLEETION )

ETA 3: And potentially deleting comments! (I'm not entirely sure the OP did it and not the commentor. I got confirmation from the commentor - it was the OP.)

ETA 4: BAH-LEETION! And the Wankgard Serpent bites its own tail.
