astolat posts A Matter Of Inconvenience, which is American Idol slashfic (Kris/Adam) with a 'Regency' setting. At least, that's the general idea, and harmless enough you would have thought - assuming that AI AU RPS is your thing. (Alphabet soup!)

zvi, however, takes exception. Amongst other objections, A Matter of Inconvenience is not about race, thoughtlessly invokes colonial issues, and just doesn't put up any warning flags for those who are about to read it. Also, apparently, this is a thing Astolat fucked up. Everybody, please to endeavor not to fuck up like that with your next happy fun sexytimes historical.

What starts off as moderately polite discussion about historicity in slash fanfiction is, however, quickly derailed by willow who offers the following reasoned evaluation: In the middle of the cuppa tea, the empire waist dresses and the ass-sex of your AU Regency - please to be remembering the hydra heads of colonialism and imperialism and what that means for and about your whitey white penis salt lick fan thought of the moment.

liviapenn tries to calm things down a bit with some entertaining stuff about plumbers and blow jobs but this only serves to upset willow further. Why is it that everytime I see you lately, you're happily shoving your foot into your mouth via your hindquarters? ... You keep claiming to understand your privilege and say you're reflecting on it and then you start chomping that feces encrusted shoe leather again. willow's User Info states "'M brown and I have an attitude." No kidding.

astolat's attempt to explain herself gets stomped on, and the desirability of historical accuracy in a Kris/Adam Regency alternate universe is lathered, rinsed and repeated for those who missed it the first time.

Small, but strangely vitriolic given the subject matter. It's difficult to imagine why people are getting quite so over-excited about one piece of costumed fluff in a universe of lesbian cars and tentacle porn, but it may keep us entertained while we're waiting for next incarnation of VB.

ETA: Okay, I get the message, I got it wrong - or maybe I just don't have a sense of humour? Either way, it was obviously a bad call. Lesson learned.

Fabletown, the official forums of my monthly comic obsession: Fables, is a pretty decorous place.

Or it was, until someone started a pirate vs. ninja poll in the off-topic forum. This irreverent attitude seriously offended Lang Caul who started a new thread to complain that people were being disrespectful to the true history of pirates and ninjas.

"Or when people make a novel about ninjas but ignore lots of historical and political matters that were relevant to ninjas. And pirates, too. And then people think, wow, ninjas were so cool, they did whatever they wanted to, and they had their own tribes and stuff, wow... and pirates were all fun and games, steal stuff, rob from people, have fun, wow, that's so cool... It's great to learn something about history, I'm glad I read this book or watched this movie!"

My first post, go easy, all that jazz.

Someone makes a Dragonlance post on Bad_rpers_Suck that smacked slightly of homophobia, apparently. People replied, and said as such. I didn't see the first post, but it was summarized to me as: "Him saying that he was sick of all the girls kissing girls on his RP. That gay acts had no place in a fandom that was based in medieval times."

So, because everyone didn't agree with him, I guess, he felt the need to lock everything, and then deleted the post, coming back with this this post.

Most people call him out that yeah, cybering is stupid, but deleting post when people don't agree with you is stupider.

Spillover wank gifted by Anon, in which Fading_light exhibits no sense of humor, and the classic "I'm not a homophobe because I have gay friends!" argument. Although to give her points, I don't like seeing people make out either...but being how that usually involves seeing the spit that grosses me out, unless she has an uber interactive computer of doom, I don't see how it applies to chat rps.

Baby's first wank-posting :D I'm a member of the community, but I didn't get involved apart from offering to cut some people into bite-sized pieces...

First of all, we have Dead Men Talking, an RPG where you play with historical personages (with "historical" defined as "dead for over three years", so we have Kurt Cobain and Douglas Adams partying with Julius Caesar and William Shakespeare, to name a few). The aim is satire and comedy, and tea innuendo abounds.

Second, we have Meg, who goes by theironduke on LJ (she has since bah-leeted her journal because of OMGDRAMA). Meg has previous issues with the girl who plays Wellington (the_iron_duke) in Dead Men Talking - a long story, but I won't relate it now because everything involved is deleted, friendslocked or both. Suffice it to say Meg is a bit obsessed about the Duke of Wellington and his honour. To the point of sometimes claiming to BE the Duke of Wellington (see napoleonic_dead, her "reincarnation" community) and sometimes role-playing him in RPGs.

And so the stage is set. Now, on to our main action.

First we have the first outraged anonymouse. Disrespect to carcasses OMG! (This wasn't proven to be one of Meg's bunch, but the wording sure sounds familiar...)

Now Napoleon (boney_the_ogre, now also bah-leeted) appears on the community. His player is none other than Meg. But in the same post, her once cohort crimeofthought appears as rowland_hill (a general of Wellington's) and attacks Wellington's player. Note "Napoleon's" outrage at the attack. (At this point Wellington's player didn't know "Napoleon" was Meg.)

The next round happened in e-mail and locked posts. Meg promised good behaviour and swore up and down she never meant to disrespect or hurt Wellington's player, swearing only crimeofthought was to blame, the mod agreed to let sleeping dogs lie until further notice, everyone was happy. And Wellington was happily leaving his waistcoats in Byron's rooms, don't ask.

Until yesterday. Because MEG (theironduke, no underscores) WENT BOOM! In a priceless way:

PERHAPS, SOMEDAY, YOU WILL GET WHAT IS SO DESPERATELY COMING TO YOU.

I WILL SEE YOU IN HELL, MADAME.

BELIEVE ME &TC.

The mod took steps to ensure this doesn't repeat. Meanwhile, it turns out Meg had more than one sockpuppet in the RPG! All of them get banned. Everyone happy?

Oh noes! Meg and her cohorts have to state their intentions somewhere, they can't just leave like that! Where do they go?

The mods' journals. This is relatively mild, but where this is concerned...

Meg did NOT stalk, harrass, or berate [Wellington's player], and the post on deadmentalking was a result of disgust at the moral decency of the people, and in her opinion, the EXTREME defamation of character that was going on.

Defamation? Oh yes, DMT is Hell Personified, because we Do Not Respect historical characters!

And it /is/ defamation, not only of character, but of history, and of national identity and MANY other things. It cannot be prosecuted, that is true, but defamation regardless. It is such a pity that our society has degraded so thoroughly that you people can do what it is that you do with absolutely not sense of shame. I hope that some day you will realise that if it were not for history and certain people in it you would not be around today and that history and the dead are deserving of your deepest and most profound respect.

And finally the truth is revealed: Meg (now in the guise of maria_hortensia) is out to kill Dead Men Talking!

No, my goal is and has always been to give you enough hell to the point where you must either go F.O., you give up in frustration, or you have so many problems that it simply becomes impractical for you to maintain your sick filth any longer. In short, to remove the abomination that is DMT and to a certain degree the idiocy of [Wellington's player] from livejournal. I am normally not fond of stating such full purpose, but, that, I presume, should have been obvious enough by now.

Oh noes, what shall we do???
