The website AfterElton.com is holding a tournament-style poll to determine the most popular slash pairing, and the championship round comes down to Sterek (Teen Wolf) vs. Destiel (Supernatural). It's a very close contest, and supporters have been tweeting official working-on-the-show people to get them to promote the poll on Twitter. This is a good short summary. Jeff Davis, producer and writer for Teen Wolf, replied to some tweets about it in August, but things really started to heat up with Misha Collins, who plays one half of the Destiel pairing on Supernatural, found out about the poll:

Then Stephen Lunsford, who plays "Matt" on Teen Wolf, replied:

And then posts a link to the poll. Other various actors from both shows start tweeting links to the poll, though as of now, Misha is the only person actually in the pairings to respond. Even the official Twitters for both shows pimp the poll and encourage people to vote for their respective slash pairings.

Thing is, there is much less fighting between the two sets of shippers than one might expect; many people ship both and have trouble choosing who they are going to vote for. But people really care about who wins; why? Because if Sterek wins, it will become canon! (Naturally!) But while they're passionate, most of the shippers aren't hateful; the solution to this conflict is, of course, porn:

The thing is for Sterek, they are the show and this poll only is a continuation of what the story is about and will make the show better. What has happened to Sterek, I thought they had the bigger fandom. I am calling cheaters! Destiel always cheat and there is no way they got that far ahead. I mean I know most of them have no life but still, the lost to Glee.

And someone creates a tumblr called Spn Fans Against Destiel - sorry, SPN FANS AGAINST DESTIEL in all-caps - which, I'm gonna warn you, is really fond of homophobic slurs.

People are upset, of course, but the unpleasantness that the Supernatural fandom can produce remains unsurpassed. In that respect, Supernatural has definitely got the Teen Wolf fandom beat.

Edit: Jensen Ackles is not okay with Destiel and therefore Misha's a dick for talking about it maybe? Jensen Ackles doesn't have a twitter so he won't be commenting on the poll. They're referring to an incident at this year's Comic-Con where a fan outright asked Misha and Jensen what they thought of Destiel, and Jensen replied that he didn't know what it was. Observe what is either passive-aggressive hostility or cheerful acceptance, depending on who you ask! Is Jensen stroking Misha's cheek a sign of, like, something? I can't tell anymore. It's turtles all the way down. Gay turtles.

SpoilerTV.com is running a poll for "Favorite TV Romantic Couple"; recently they had a playoff poll (I think that's what it's called) to determine who would take the last 5 spots, and what's this? Why, it includes Dean Winchester and Castiel from Supernatural!

People in the comments seem to agree with her and thank her for having opened their eyes to how they're really just serving The Man by writing about guys getting on it.

But wait! Is such blanket approval natural? Not in the least.

As soon as she starts getting disagreements that are pro-slash, she deletes them on the grounds that such defenses can be found anywhere. She also refuses to link to any examples because it'd be unhelpful/too much work, and characterizes most femmeslash stories as being like lesbian pornography.

For bonus points, she apparently also has the power to edit comments if they talk about women in unacceptable ways. Though it's okay to say that on House, 'the women on that show are so lousy, either shrews or sex objects or both', so I'm curious as to what she doesn't find acceptable.

GayGamer is a site that covers, you guessed it, news and stories relevant to the homosexual gaming population. Starting on Wednesday the site suffered repeated Denial of Service attacks and was eventually able to ban the IP that was causing them by Friday. Then on Friday evening the site's forums and chat room were flooded with more things meant to bog down the site, including hate speech, overlarge images and even death threats. This leads many to conclude that both the DOS's and the subsequent attacks are all part of one huge hate crime.

Kotaku and GayGamer have a history of sharing stories and working together. Flynn de Marco, who owns GayGamer, is also the weekend editor for Kotaku. Thus Kotaku decides to report about the attack.

So AfterElton.com posts an article about Heroes supporting character Zach, who's been arguably coded as gay (or bi) almost since we met him on the show. The article concerns recent NBC comments that no, Zach has never been anything but the straightest straight straight that ever straighted, sorry.

Said article is quoted and linked to on heroes_tv, and within an hour, the comments are flying.

Highlights:

Arguing over whether or not Zach's gay, including pointing out of typos, anecdotal evidence, and other totally mature lines of evidence.

So it's been announced that Heath Ledger has been offered the part of The Joker in the new Batman Begins Sequel. TBS is running a fairly kneeslapping promo for their airing of the LOTR trilogy in which their homo is pastede on yey!

PheonixDav over on the Game Informer forums is personally offended and gets out his McCarthyism Day Stick in a post titled TBS Doesn't Get it, and Neither do You.

A commercial came on last night that made me want to punch my TV. It was an ad for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which TBS will shortly be airing. The Lord of the Rings is a powerful story about strength and character, and you would think the ad would reflect that. However, the marketers at TBS apparently decided it would attract more viewers if they made Sam and Frodo look **BLEEP**, by showing nothing but Hobbits hugging and playing music about "secret lovers".

TBS, rather than representing the movie as it should be represented, decided to hop on the Brokeback Bandwagon. And I think it belittles the movie. What was once something grand becomes, in the eyes of the ignorant masses who watch TBS, hobbit porn.

Which brings me to my main point: the mainstream media and pop culture as a whole has an unhealthy obsession with deviant sexualities. THAT is the reason homosexual issues are so politically charged, and the reason homosexuality occupies such a confused, volatile position in our culture. We've all been conditioned to hunt for anything outside a narrowly defined hetero-normal behavioral spectrum and label it as something deviant.

Do not defend TBS. If you defend TBS, you're only proving my point and exacerbating the problem further.

I seem to think this cheapens Tolkien's masterpiece that is "The Lord of the Rings." Of course not! The two communities were both taken for their names, "before the stupid fangirls got their mitts on it". donquixote_ then posts a rant in each about how yaoi fangirls are delusional for seeing yaoi between the two main male characters. But it's okay for her to think that, as we find out that donquixote_ is bi! (And defends her point by saying that slashing straight characters is hurting the gay movement.)

I give you the Great Trigun Wank '04, that's been going on for about three months now, with the same arguments ciculating ad nauseum. Yet somehow, it still hasn't gotten old. This is a long story, but I'd like to see it preserved for future generations. From the start.

100bullets, the Trigun drabble comm, is a happy place where, through some fluke of the universe, yaoi (dominantly W/V) and het (dominantly V/M) fans manage to coexist without killing each other. Weekly challenges are issued wherein participants are assigned challenges suggested by other participants, and everybody has a good time. Until lushdesolation shows up and makes it very clear that she doesn't like yaoi, citing religious reasons for her dislike.

The yaoi crowd is hacked, but amazingly, all hell does not break loose. Yet. Until she does it again. And again. And again.

Around this time, millyfan starts getting all up in people's junk about being mean to lushdesolation. Yes, this is important, trust me.

Changing tack, lushdesolation writes her own yaoi drabble positively dripping with scorn. She also makes the staggeringly insightful comment that it's okay to be gay if you're evil, but not if you're one of the protagonists.

"I don't mind writing yaoi for villians - as for heroes who are not explicitly yaoi in canon, I don't want to make them yaoi. To me, making Vash and Wolfwood have hot mutual buttsex...would be "tainting" them - at least, tainting Vash, whom I see as an extremely moral character."

It doesn't much go over well, and she then posts an apology for acting like an ass. Said apology would be a whole lot easier to swallow, if she didn't lace it with pity-me comments about cutting herself.

Not long after lushdesolation promises to shape up, she's at it again, in a drabble that's not even yaoi. People get pissed off, millyfan freaks out and both are banned for a month for being rude and unseemly by community mod jaina. Several posts later, taking advantage of anonymous posting, lushdesolation gives people a piece of her mind before drifting off into the ether.

Fast forward to present. Fresh from her one-month ban, lushdesolation makes her presence known, refrencing a thread she started on the Godawful Fanfiction boards detailing why 100bullets sucks. Regulars from 100bullets are attracted by the sound of spooge, and wank happens elsewhere. Sensing people talking about her, lushdesolation shows up because bashing a comm in a different forum and then bragging about to the targets themselves is so not wank omg.

She then makes the obligatory "STFU I'm going home" post and gives the comm the finger. Showing what a true friend she is, millyfan makes some hideous icons to commemorate the event.
