Small Who fandom wank

[info]_rukia
[info]mrv3000 sets out to address a lingering prejudice in fandom, one she is personally affected by. Doesn't sound funny so far, right? Just wait.

You see, it's not racism, or sexism, or classism, or anything similar Miss 3000 feels the need to address, oh no! Instead, she decides to discuss one of the more persistent problems in fandom: the horrors of OTP-ism! For you see, according to her:

I'm a serial OTP-er. I rather doubt this will ever change. Pretty much all of my fannish experience (even before the 10 years I've been hanging out in fandom) has been me latching on to one pairing and squeeing the hell out of it. I don't find it particularly juvenile that I generally only ship one pairing, but yet I see so many comments that indicate as much. That somehow a person is enlightened if they can multi-ship (or really enlightened if they like threesomes or more) and some sort of idiot fangirl if they OTP. Or that if a person has an OTP, then by that very definition they must be on a crusade to wreck every other pairing. Um, say what? Just because I don't find some other ship plausable doesn't mean that someone else can't. (Unless they believe that my thinking trumps their thinking; in which case, dude, get me a latte! I've always wanted a minion!)

Many people agree (especially at first), several people don't, and the whole thing rapidly spirals into a debate about whether or not 'mono-shipping' is the same as OTPing and if the 'true' in One True Pairing inherently invalidates all other ships. [info]jaythenerdkid/[info]bewarethespork writes a reaction post discussing 'sign-systems' as they relate to Doctor/Rose shippers, where people respond Very Seriously, and the entire thing pretty much reads like a war about whose shipping patterns are betterer with some big words thrown in.

Fail mods are failing

[info]sepiamagpie
Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Anyway, you got today instead.

Stop anticipating things, we'll just break your hearts.

Sincerely,

Sepia P. Magpie, Esq.

PS: Use this post to reflect on how you could be better people. Or just fuck around in the comments.

HP: All your Snarry archives are belong to us!

[info]furiosity
There's this Snarry archive called Detention, right?

A former mod, [info]biting_moopie, makes a post about what's been going on lately with the archive and why she's no longer affiliated with it. [info]atrata (another former mod) makes a post also, making a similar statement and linking to Moopie's post for clarification.

[info]individum, who is the archive owner (and who appears to have deleted her LJ as a result of prior wank involving the archive -- I've no clue what that's about), gets wind of this and posts an indignant rebuttal to snarry_detention (the LJ community affiliated with the archive) using the mod journal.

Apparently, she's been MIA from the site and she thinks this is perfectly fine because it's her archive and she'll do with it what she pleases. Among other things, she accuses the former mods of lying about their levels of involvement since her break began. However, there are screencaps that suggest otherwise.

Bonus mice: there's this mouse called "Alexandra Dane" who supports the former mods and thinks Page is out of line and then there's this other mouse called "Al" who keeps following Alexandra Dane around and telling her to STFU. It's kind of cute.

ETA: Alexandra Dane's stories have been deleted from the archive, too.

ETA2: Detention is now CLOSED, and it's all fandom_wank's FAULT! I'm taking my TOYS and LEAVING!!1one!1 >:0!1

ETA3: BUT I AM NOT LEAVING UNTIL I GET THE LAST WORD ON EVERYTHING!!11!!eleventy!11

"OMG YOU MEEANIES!" When Pros Turn Wanky

[info]pyratejenni
Found this on [info]fanthropology.

RoC gave away excerpts from Touched By Venom, by Jeanine Cross at this year's World Fantasy Conference WFC is primarily a conference for professional fantasy writers and editors. Writers, editors and reviews read it,find it hideous, and spawn impromptu readings a la Eye of Argon for the rest of the convention. Cheryl Morgan mentions this in her blog, and Ballantine/DelRay's Assistant Publicity Director Colleen Lindsay responds. She says there's no mention of "venom cock" in the book, and that WFC is just a little con full of nobodies.

A reviewer, John Joseph Adams, proves Colleen wrong. Meanwhile, other people point out WFC had 900 people, and is mostly a professional conference.

Colleen's response? Anything under 10,000 is a little con and a little con-goer sneered at my publisher, so we hates them, my precious, we hates them forever!

Moved from [info]otf_wank because it got the okay -- can't cross the streams!.

Harry Potter sorting hat wank!

[info]prettyveela
[info]shadowsider posts an application on [info]hogwarts_elite. People vote on the application and it looks like Shadow will be sorted into Gryffindor.

[info]shadowsider doesn't like it.

I am actually having trouble breathing, I'm laughing so hard. Gryffindor?? Or gods, even worse, Hufflepuff. You people need therapy. LOTS and lots of therapy.

Other gems include:
And pushing for Slytherin? Please. Read my userinfo. Better yet - read my journal. I scare my own wife on occasion, and not because I would ever lay a violent hand on her. Violence isn't my thing. Darkness, however, very much is.

Move over Ozzy!

The REAL hat would have seen inside my head and known where I belonged. It would have known that there's every chance I'd eat the other Slytherins for dinner, nevermind anyone from a brighter house. You, my darling hunted, were not that observent.

Yes folks the REAL sorting hat! You know, the one in that fictional universe?

And the #1 reason why he should be sorted into Slytherin?

"I work in a goth club. Bartending. In the dark."

Welcome to my fandom.

To quote rhiannonhero from LJ: "Anne Rice wouldn't last a day in fandom, yo."

[info]fictionbya
Apparently Anne Rice is upset about some of the reviewers at amazon.com for they have strained her Dickensean principles to the max!

(Scroll about halfway down. You are looking for reviewer "Anne Obrien Rice" and a paragraph that never ends.)

ETA: You will now have to click on "Next" under the customer reviews to locate the "Anne Obrien Rice" review. Just click and scroll down. It's hard to miss.

Also, iconage has happened at [info]fwank_icons.

Son of ETA: Amazon.com seems to have deleted the Anne Obrien Rice review (and the crop of reviews that came after it). Fortunately, some things which are posted on the internet have a way of being preserved forever. )

dumb question

[info]naeelah
Pardon my plebeyness, but what is the story behind the "what the shit is this?" icons? I didn't see anything that explained it in the memories, and I'm curious, because it's really funny...
