Fail mods are failing

[info]sepiamagpie
Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Anyway, you got today instead.

Stop anticipating things, we'll just break your hearts.

Sincerely,

Sepia P. Magpie, Esq.

PS: Use this post to reflect on how you could be better people. Or just fuck around in the comments.

A bit of GAFF mini-wank over Tristan & Isolde

[info]dez_chan
Doe starts a thread in Godawful Movies wondering whether Tristian and Isolde is going to suck, based purely on the music used during the preview.

Some people have better reactions than others, such as Mvctar Avrelivs's fit over replacing Wagner with Evanescence. Raven and Writing Desk gets historically philosophical by asking whether angsty pseudo-goth is better than anti-Semetic, long dead composers.

But that's not the real wank.

Anais idly relates a tale of high schoolers who had the gall not to be familiar with Romeo and Juliet.

Then the wank ensues. In this corner, plebians! )

Because anime is too d33p for the American populace.

[info]feenix
(Warning: It's on Gaia, so 56k'ers beware. However--holy shit--it's about fandom.)

The Anime/Manga/Comics forum is a cesspool of squealing over the newest hotness in anime. Most of the discussions that go on there are rehashes of topics done numerous times, and are more demonstrations of the posters' lack of any sentience whatsoever than actual topics.

So when I first saw this topic, I had high hopes. Which were quickly dashed when I decided to actually...you know...read it.

I was going to attempt a Cliff's Notes, but the pseudointellectualism blinded me. )

So, yeah. Be prepared for (omg!) heavy reading.

[edit]Oh baby, trolls!

Speaking of which...I never linked the other parts of the wank.

First, the wank about whether American comics are d33p and 3dgy. Starts at the bottom of page one, continues.

Next, In which Koko's Americanness is called into question. (I think this continues for like...two or three pages.)

More to be added as I finish backlogging.

You're all nerds, you nerds!

[info]virago
I don't have very good wankdar, but every so often something on friendsfriends makes me go WTF. And this is one of those times. I know no backstory, and YMMV.

Anime conventions. Lots of people wandering around spending loads of money on their beloved, insanely overpriced hobby. After the day's festivities are done, the crowd breaks up and everyone does their own thing until the next day, and this is where our stage is set.
You suck because your fun is different from my fun, which is the One True Fun. )

The Devil's Whores! I love 'em!

[info]bohicamouse
Sweet whiskey sour, it's lesbian goth wank!

That's right kids, it starts as an innocent thread on the Shoujo-Ai forums for people to post goth lesbian anime pics (now we're gettin' specifyin'). Of course not everyone likes the goth look, and people feel the need to say so, and other people feel the need to accuse the first people of making sweeping generalizations while, you guessed it, making sweeping generalizations.
Self-righteousness, pseudo-intellectualism and of course a lot of hot anime chicks ensue. Choice quotes:

How flattering: As for Goth Lesbians, I see them as The Devil's Whores or the Love of Darkness, total... turn on...
::cries:: I wanna see Lesbians in Public!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Poser is a lifestyle choice, dammit!: Goth culture has nothing to do with wearing chains and leather. Most don't even know why it is that we all wear black. Well, black is not official a color, it's a mixture of all the other colors. Basically the message is, i am you and everything else combined, simply meaning-nature. Real Gothic's are wiccans. (trust me) The rest are just posers (there is nothing wrong with posers by the way, so keep those flames away from me )

Everything you know is wrong: White and black are brightness levels of any hue, any hue from red-orange-yellow-green-blue-violet (the colors visible to the human eye, hence infrared and ultraviolet) raised to a certain brightness looks white, and down to a certain darkness looks black (ever notice how black clothes will fade into another color like brown/blue?). Maybe "brightness" isnt the technically correct word, but you get what I mean. Black and White have nothing to do with mixes of colors.

Well, one's the opposite of the other, for starters: What's the difference between posers and non-posers?
You're all posers IMO. Trying to dress like if it was halloween everyday...

Right up there with the Goddess-worship: Is that a loophole in wiccan rules of karma? (If it's passive-aggressive, it's ok to be negative?)

I'll let my icon do the talking: I, myself, like to think of myself as a bit more enlightened then the genral population (considering that it takes the general population to get a republican in the whitehouse) enlightened is a bit different then inteligent though. I write an editorial for the school newspaper just about every month on current politics, I like to conjure up 15 page essays on my views of the world, but am I doing this all to prove im "deep"? No, not really.

I see the light, I will never discriminate again: If someone's born having a taste and fondness for Abrocombi and Fitch then they'er going to ware it, right?

And there are three more pages of it! O happy day!

Big public lesbian snogs to kabukikatze of LJ for finding this for me. Rawr. (We're not Goth, but I dressed as one once for Halloween--not that there's anything WRONG with being a poser.)

Plebey plebes plebing plebilly

[info]lulinda
HP fandom has many terms. One of them is "plebe." As you can see from this thread, the definition is quite flexible. Basically, the term can apply to anyone, from someone with poor spelling and grammar to someone with good spelling and grammar that happens to disagree with you.

The use of the term "plebe" in HP fandom is a HOT!HOT!HOT! topic! This thread barely lasted 3 days!

I thought you all might like some of the wanktastic posts to this thread. Intellectual puffery is always amusing to see, especially when it relates to a fandom term.

P.S. Yes, I did post in the thread, feel free to wank on me! I need to remember that Fandom is fucking funny!

P.P.S. There's even a few mentions of Fandom_Wank!

[edited to add] I personally do not use the term "plebe," cause I think the whole idea of labeling someone in an insulting manner for being "stupid" based on message board posts is wanky to begin with.
