In Failtown, they pay you by the word

tetradecimal
This wank brought to you by wank_report.

A bit of context: The Mammoth Book of Mindblowing SF is the next installment in the Mammoth Book anthology series edited by Mike Ashley. Recently, its table of contents, which lists the twenty-one stories and authors that will be included in the book, was posted on the SF Signal website.

Almost immediately, there is some grousing from the peanut gallery -- it seems that not one of the authors included in the lineup are (a)women, or (b)nonwhite. Commenters proceed to point this out, mostly keeping it down to a few sentences and seemingly content to speak up and move on. Luckily, Paul Di Filippo, one of the authors featured in the anthology, arrives on the scene, CAPS LOCK AT THE READY AND BRIMMING WITH RAGE.

Wank: The Final Frontier

[info]fern_on_fen
As those of you who haven't been living under a rock may know, a new Star Trek movie just came out. Over on [info]fanficrants, [info]roq is upset about this. Apparently, TEENAGERS are now WRITING in HER fandom! Quelle suprise!

She has some choice words to say about it.

"Ewwww, boobies are TEH EVOL!!"

[info]sarajayechan
More feminism wank on Fandom Secrets. Surprise surprise!

This time, the secret is about female fanservice. [info]monpetitpetaq claims that no matter how well-rounded and awesome the female characters in Bleach are, their awesomeness is negated by their large breasts because female fanservice harms real life women somehow. (Well, I can see the huge boobs being a problem for one's back...)

Anon tries to argue that both forms of sexism are equally bad, but [info]monpetitpetaq and [info]paperclipchains aint buying it.

Also apparently female fanservice is "icky" but male fanservice is ZOMG YUMMY!!!! And [info]panzer_knight adds to the "big boobs = sucky character" pile. Huh, maybe it's just me but I can't remember the episode or manga chapter where Rukia, Tatsuki and Soifon had huge knockers spilling out of their swimsuits. XD

Fanfic & Slash: You're Doing It Wrong!

[info]damien
Spinning Spinsters decides to write an essay about how fan culture is highly conservative, and bolsters and propagates male supremacist ideas.

People in the comments seem to agree with her and thank her for having opened their eyes to how they're really just serving The Man by writing about guys getting on it.

But wait! Is such blanket approval natural? Not in the least.

As soon as she starts getting disagreements that are pro-slash, she deletes them on the grounds that such defenses can be found anywhere. She also refuses to link to any examples because it'd be unhelpful/too much work, and characterizes most femmeslash stories as being like lesbian pornography.

For bonus points, she apparently also has the power to edit comments if they talk about women in unacceptable ways. Though it's okay to say that on House, 'the women on that show are so lousy, either shrews or sex objects or both', so I'm curious as to what she doesn't find acceptable.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to serve The Man.

Fail mods are failing

[info]sepiamagpie
Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Anyway, you got today instead.

Stop anticipating things, we'll just break your hearts.

Sincerely,

Sepia P. Magpie, Esq.

PS: Use this post to reflect on how you could be better people. Or just fuck around in the comments.

Women Who Hate Dean Hating Women Hating... wait.

[info]themadscientist
Let's see if I can do this properly.

Hiatus in the Supernatural fandom officially started last Friday, and already fans are getting a little stir-crazy.
There have been small-time rumblings from various corners of LJ this season over gender issues and many of these rumblings have involved Dean Winchester, one of the two stars of Supernatural.

There are spoilers about the finale of course.
Here )
eta: and for added FAIL, the poster of this wank has not figured out auto-formatting. Would anyone be kind enough to link me to the FAQ that deals with LJ-tags? When I try to use the search function I keep running into a page about harassment. Maybe it is a sign?

Joss Whedon and a rant about Firefly

[info]inconceivable
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a LiveJournal user called _allecto_ who hated Joss Whedon and his so called feminist reputation, and was determined to expose him for what he was.

To that end, she posted a rant on her LiveJournal which, to be quite frank, has to be read to be believed.

Here.

Highlights:
Zoe calls Mal 'sir' (thereby proving that Joss hates women).

Mal threatens to duct-tape Kaylee's mouth and lock her in the hold (thereby proving that _allecto_ would not recognise humour if it bit her on the butt while wearing a Groucho Marx disguise...oh, and Joss hates women).

The best bit?

On the strength of Joss' work on Firefly and interviews she has seen, _allecto_ alleges that:

I feel awful for Joss Whedon's wife. From what I've read about him and the interviews I've watched, I'm fairly certain that he rapes his wife and abuses her in various other ways.

Because _allecto_ appears to be screening comments (can't imagine why) or deleting any she doesn't like (ditto), disagreeing comments can be found in another LJ:

here.

~~~
ETA: Whedonesque reacts.
Screencaps of Whedonesque before it's gone can be found here.
You don't know the history of feminism like I do!
[info]seiberwing
A recent [info]ohnotheydidnt post features a list of the most misogynistic movies of the decade. On cue, the wank commences, with responses ranging from "feminists suck" to "I'm not a feminist but..." to "this is kinda silly but I agree with a few points" to "it's just entertainment lol".
Dave Sim On Sequential Tart: Round 2!
[info]mercutia
Well, looks like everyone's favorite aardvark-adventurin' comic book writer is back for another round at Sequential Tart.
Highlights include his response, broken down into chunks and taking up a pretty long part of his return visit, to a post made by forum member WolfenMoondaughter, a volleyball game of statistics, more posts from Gail Simone, and of course the cherry on top that is extensive commentary from Talon T M.
Have fun!
I do not think it means what you think it means.
[info]yukina_raven
My first wank here. B-Be nice? :(
Over at FandomSecrets on Livejournal, wank is no stranger. Occasionally a secret appears that pisses everyone off. In the most recent secret post secret number 37 is one such secret. Featuring such beloved Final Fantasy heroines like Yuna and Rinoa along with other favorites like Tear and Colette from the Tales of... fandom, the secret accuses them all of being yamato nadeshiko.
Except for the fact that none of the characters pictured actually fit the definition. Not even a little bit.
When the OP is called out on her misunderstanding of the word, she claims that "they're not all that type to a T, the fact remains that pretty much every love interest in every JRPG has a set of very similar traits that link back to that." While ignoring that the male hero has clichés he falls in, of course. (Bonus! Someone uses the word 'bugfuck'!)
People come to defend some of the characters. But the OP doesn't get it.
She continues to fail at term usage and Earth logic is attempted. And OP keeps ignoring that males can be clichés too.
Someone sort of agrees . Others accuse her of giving slash fans a bad name. There's also how the OP just completely failed at getting her point across.
But its hard to feel sorry for her when she's probably an attention whore and was hoping for such wank.
She eventually comes out of the woodwork entirely to keep failing. We also have miniwank about FF10 VS. FF10-2 and the use of fanservice.
And the best for last.
ETA: Oh noes! We were SPOTTED! Where she continues to think you need a reason to slash.
Warcraft brings the smut
[info]demonbean
While one might think that the announcement about Wrath of the Lich King ("Hero classes!  Destructable buildings!  New hairstyles!") might have caused a considerable amount of drama, this wank comes from somewhere else: namely, "She cheated on me over Ventrilo!"
Note: For those who aren't the gaming type, Ventrilo is a voice-chat system groups can use during raids.  For when, you know ... typing isn't fast enough.  Also, as almost any of us could have predicted, Ventrilo is also used for the same thing that the rest of the internet is used for: namely, porn.
The original story goes thus: in short, Demeter and Gilgamesh run a guild, and are in real life also married.    Demeter (the husband) finds out that Gilgamesh (the wife; we've reversed genders in our name choices, apparently) has been cybering over Ventrilo with some members of the guild.  So he makes a post about leaving and /gkick-ing her, and offers the guild up for e-sale.
It escalates.  It escalates to 26 pages!  Bring the, "Oh god, I'm so sorry"s, closely followed by the, "LOL YOU FOOL"s and the "Can I get in on it"s, and garnished (as a wank delicacy) by opposing cries of, "You need to pay more attention to your wife!" and "Women can't be trusted!"
Most of the threads in the main WoW forum get deleted, but Dionysus is handy enough to give us a dictionary of the wank here.
Conspiracy theories abound, and the whole thing is expected to explode to high heaven (like it hadn't already) tomorrow, when Gilgamesh is expected to return from vacation.
This just in! Women cause drama!
[info]soupspooks
Or, rather, guilds that specifically state they won't recruit women start drama. Nihilum, one of the most well-known, farthest progressing guilds on World of Warcraft (EU) have been reported on in a WoW-Insider article.
Top EU guild Nihilum is recruiting a few serious Horde raiders on Magtheridon (EU). And not that I play on the EU side of things, but if I did, I wouldn't be welcome to apply. Why? According to GM Kungen, there are a lot of reasons they don't recruit females, but the one he highlights is the need for recruits to have a "high 'abuse tolerance.'" And a bit later in the thread, poster Awake adds that female applicants are avoided because of drama. And while I know there are immature girl gamers who can bring plenty of drama to a guild, I know equally immature guys who can be just as bad. So to me, personally, it makes better sense to simply not recruit idiots of either sex.
There is wank in the comments. Oh, is there ever wank. Unfortunately it's hard to link directly to specific posts.
Someone, naturally, brings this topic to wow_ladies, and there is even more commenting. Most of them seem to be of the same nature (that it's extremely unfair), but there are some rather good points, and some... well, tl;dr ones. Most importantly, someone comments randomly with one of my favorite icons. :D
The point is, no matter what, it's all Nihilum's fault for being a bunch of thirteen year old boys who think girls are icky, have no lives, etc. etc. Not unlike Toronto, everyone hates Nihilum. And Death and Taxes is recruiting, and likes girls. Or something.
Note: The link in the WoW-Insider article to Nihilum's newspost doesn't seem to work, so I have no way of verifying what it said. As a rather interesting bonus, this is Awake's interview with WoW-Insider.
My apologies for the last wank report posted, this one's been around for a little while, it shouldn't get deleted.
Edit: It was for the lulz! Thank you kindly, [info]onaga
The Comic Book Wanking Planner
[info]vigilanterodent
From a most excellent mouse over at [info]wank_report, I bring you that tastiest of cakes: comics wank.
For those of you who don't follow such things, DC Comics superheroine Black Canary and superhero Green Arrow, after years of on-again off-again romance, have decided to tie the knot.
Because it is DC, and they're . . . DC, they have apparently put together a big hoopla for this, complete with a one-shot devoted solely to Black Canary doing the wedding planning.
Pervyficgirl is not entirely pleased.
Join us on a wankantic trip down the aisle. )
You're Interrogating those Tentacles from the Wrong Perspective
[info]criticalcricket
Hot on the heels of "Laundry gate" Marvel brings us what appears to be attempted tentacle rape of four buxom babes in bondage. Cue arguments over the objectification of women, misogyny, violence in the imagery, etc and so forth. There is wank just about everywhere no_brakes23 appears, because true to his name, he doesn't know how to stop.
It's like a gallery of fucktards!
[info]snacky
More people are weighing in on the whole Fanlib thing. Oh, I know, that's not news. But let's examine the issue based on "Good Old-Fashioned Fear of the Cock!"
Today, we bring you teh_no, who has to explain things to all the silly fandom wimmins: "You're being sexist."
Other fandom males comment on the violence inherent in the system the sexism they've faced from women, including our old pal [info]rann - no shit, people, he's a GUY (although, honestly, most people I know who hate him hated him when they thought he was a woman, so I'm not sure his argument carries any weight)! And let's not forget mako_eyed_boy, who has not yet realized that people don't hate him because he's a man, they just hate him because he's a motherfucking tool.
Some (assumed! Sorry, Rann) fandom females add their own good points comments, but really, it's all about the men here, so we shouldn't focus on the thoughts of those prone to vicious cat-fighting.
Yeah, I know it's small, but it's pretty damn wanky. Plus, there was no way I was passing up a Rann's a guy?!" joke.
ETA: Last link NSFW. You have [info]ymfaery (and, in absentia, [info]backfromspace) to thank. :D
More house wank, what a surprise!
[info]expeliarbum
Over at [info]house_md, [info]i_love_tigger, who claims to be a therapist, makes a post asking 'what are people's opinions of Cameron?'. Then she explains and tells everyone she thinks Cameron is a 'Slutty bitch', but 'she's not trying to offend her'.
Things get a little wanky, but nothing that bad, until the OP starts to delete 'threatening comments' and to freeze threads(some screencaps here and here )
Then she feels the need to inform everyone this:
I deleted the comments that were threatening to me and immature. I kept all comments from people who have an ounce of intelligence and maturity. I have no problem with people disagreeing with me. If I did I wouldn't have posted this in the first place. However, I should not have to defend my personal life on here or feel threatened. I actually screen captured most of this post and submitted it to my cousin at the local police station. The MODS are also aware of the threats (which were deleted by someone else). I emailed one of them. I'm so sorry to the rest of you for having this community ruined by a few people..
As a bonus, some capslockers appear
Good times.
ETA: Damn, deleted. Fortunately, I took some screencaps. Second page of comments</b>, guest appearance of teh capslocks and where she explains why she deleted all those comments.
Bestiality, necrophilia and castration. Comics bring the best wank.
[info]haunted
You may remember [info]teh_no from at least one other comics wank. He's a well-known wanker in the relatively small comics fandom on LJ. And he's at it again.
A while back, he made a very NSFW post on [info]scans_daily, the LJ hub of comics wank. The heroine castrates a rapist, has sex with her cat, and rapes a corpse. She is, says [info]teh_no, everything Girl-Wonder.org, a movement to improve the portrayal of women in comics, is looking for in a female hero.
This has a mixed reaction, as the comments show. Supporters of G-W.org don't appreciate the "joke", and say so. Notice the comment from [info]monkeycrackmary. That name will become important in a moment.
Cut to a more recent post. He is still bitter about being called puerile. He calls G-W.org out on it, and says they shouldn't be offended by his "joke" because they are "ALREADY associated with pedophilia. Mary Borsellino's name is all over the girl-wonder website. She's described as the founder on the media page and credited with the coding. And she writes wacky stories about grown men having sex with young boys:". He links to and quotes excerpts of her Batman/Robin fanfiction, and also mentions one of her other projects, violatedbydemontongue.com. Mary Borsellino is [info]monkeycrackmary, and was the founder of G-W.org. She uses her own name rather than a pen name, so the connection is not a difficult one.
"Please do not pretend moral superiority," he says, "when I made a joke and your boss lady gets off on pedophilia and incest. Okey-dokey?"
Various supporters of [info]monkeycrackmary chime in. She makes a short post on the whole thing.
But where, I hear no one at all cry, does [info]teh_no's apparent hate for [info]monkeycrackmary come from? Well, before any of this happened, this happened. She didn't comment on his fic, the whore!
Oh, comics. Why do I bother?
ETA: Why Yuletide is superior to JBBS, by [info]teh_no. His conclusion? Yuletides gets him more comments. I'm sensing a pattern here.
Won't someone please think of the video game boobies?
[info]oxydosic
They think about you while they're jiggling with impossible physics. Ganked from a mousie on [info]wank_report.
Over in the [info]gamers community, [info]judek_hanzo posts asking how to unlock a swimsuit for a certain DOA Ultimate character (for those who don't know, the DOA games feature women, often with gravity defying hooters, fighting often in outfits that have no logical way of actually staying in place). Apparently, people tend to get offended over there about people wanting to see Teh Videogame Boobies and proceed to lay into him.
It starts here when [info]gospelx declares the OP as part of the reason people have such a stereotypical view of gamers.[info]summersdreamer however seems to be the main wanker in that thread:
No, I find it amusing when people actually live up to cliches.
That said, you're going to be disappointed by real women. They have annoying characteristics like thoughts and feelings, and they frustratingly won't do whatever you want.
[info]summersdreamer insults [info]misscarlos when she stands up for the OP, then proceeds to get into an exchange with [info]caz_chan, who apparently was the only poster who bothered to answer the OP's question.
Cut for swearing )
Other posters continue to bash the OP, bringing out the fact that he belongs to hentai communities as proof of his one-track mind.
[info]summersdreamer declares through various parts of the wank that they could care less that the OP wants to look at pixellated boobs, just that they're annoyed they're asking a question that could easily be answered on GameFAQs. Which completely justifies their actions, apparently.
Moderator [info]thehangedman has the last word:
This is one of those things you should have just looked up on gamefaqs.
I would normally delete a post like this, but if everyone really wants to argue about make believe tits . . .
What is there more worthy to argue about, really?
