Feminism? In a webcomic? It's more likely than you think.

[info]arekuru
For the last year and half or so, webcomic Sinfest has featured an intermittent storyline about feminism and "the sisterhood," with many of the characters being confronted with their anti-feministic views to varying reactions. As the comic started out with a lot of humor about drugs, sex, and stereotypes (and also a cute dog and cat, but that's not important right now), some readers have not been pleased with this change.

This comic pretty much sums up the background for you. For a quick overview of the complaints sans [much] wank, see the entries here for Base Breaker, Black Hole Sue, Double Standard, Jerk Sue, They Changed It Now It Sucks, and Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped. (Warning: link goes to TVTropes.)

The storyline's been going on long enough that wank has started to spill over a bit into many online "discussions" about comics and feminism (Shortpacked's comments section, for example), but is most conveniently observed right in Sinfest's own forums.

This is where the wank gets entertaining.'...a smattering of the hopelessly ignorant we might be able to lure in and taunt mercilessly.' )

If you're a TV character who's lover died in canon, you're never allowed to fall in love again

[info]mockingbird
There once was a soap opera called “As the world turns”
They had a gay couple called “Nuke” (Luke/Noah), then the soap got cancelled but not before Luke ran away with another guy called Reid.

First a lot of people didn't like that Reid destroyed Nuke, but then a lot of Nuke-shippers jumped ship as the new canon pairing became "LuRe" (Luke/Reid).

To be a good little "LuRe" shipper you have to bash Noah and "Nuke" at all times (best in the Douchefest)but you are not allowed to think that after Reid died in canon, Luke is allowed to ever fall in love again.

At least not in fic.

If you write or post fic that has Luke with someone else , you are insulted as stupid. Everybody who doesn't agree is also insulted and called stupid. If you call people too lazy to scroll over fic they don’t like you get banned.
If you like one fic like the next where canon gets ignored, Luke and Reid get married and have lots of kids, you are everyone's friend

yeah, I'm a "Nukie" who loves to see the "lurians" fight among themselves. So what?

Smushed Names are SERIOUS BUSINESS

[info]visp
Small but sweet.

In the land of Glee, there are singing teenagers and many fans who want them all to bang.
Of course, there is much screaming and gnashing of teeth over the right way for a bunch of fictional underage characters to be getting it on, but someone tries to be reasonable about it.

The loudest jerks do not speak for the entire 'ship. Skurt fans and Klaine fans need to realise this.

And we all agree to disagree and go home, right? Wrong! Because even when you've worn the shipping arguments to the ground, there is still... *drumroll* Arguing about ship names!

Not going to debate you on the beginning, but please. It's Kum or Hevans. We've repeatedly asked the fandom to choose one or the other, but calling us "Skurt" or "Kam" or whatever else is disrespectful at this point.

It goes on from there:

We don't want Kam and Surt to be used because they will always sound derogatory and mocking to us, even if you don't mean them in that way.

We already put up with being called delusional, crazy, retarded, etc; ok no big deal. All we're asking here is, at least respect the ship portmanteaus we chose. Yes, it is an emotional issue to us and we do take it personally, but it doesn't cost to just give us this much.

It's about respecting slash as much as het!
