In the name of the Moon, I will boycott you

[info]sepiamagpie
Nangbaby is boycotting Sailor Moon for crimes against humanity wait, wait, no, sorry, that was me listening to the language, not the message. Sorry, Viz is doing a redub with the cast's original names.

To quote Nangbaby so I don't misrepresent her:

I promised that I would leave the fandom if this happened and I will. As much as I would like to make it an immediate exit, please note that I have spent a significant chunk of my life loving Serena as Sailor Moon, Alan, Ann, Lita, Game Machine Man, Bertie, and Malachite (just like the sword in Ogre Battle). Forgive the dramatic death throes.

For those of you who think I’m overreacting, let me make this clear. Viz has essentially announced that the Sailor Moon loved by millions, the girl named Serena whose opening theme proclaims she fights evil by moonlight and wins love by daylight. is no more. She has been erased from continuity Sonja Belmont-style.

Now, I grew up with Sailor Moon like any red-blooded nineties Canadian, but I'm not sure quite sure what she's getting at. But she goes on to say:

Now imagine if George Lucas has in addition to making those changes, stated Chewbacca was actually canonically a lesbian and changed the scenes to make that very obvious, as well as claimed the Jedi’s goal was to oversee the development of humanity according to the Force and lead them into the light through taking over the Empire.

Now, this may have unfortunate implications with the fact the redub re-adds two original canon gay couples, but I'm also pretty sure Lucas did that anyway and we just moved on.

I mean, we all remember the makeout scene after Leia says she'd rather kiss a Wookie, right? And the interview with Chewbacca's new dub voice, Tilda Swinton, where she says she's proud to play Chewbacca as he was always meant to be - a proud queer woman covered head to toe in fur. She even did the interview in the Chewbacca costume, despite her height and the fact she actually did the whole role from a recording booth.

Sorry, I've deviated.

She knows who to blame, and she's darn well gonna do it.

As a normal person*, I have no powers against this blatant disenfranchisement and marginalization except that of my limited wallet, and I will say this. From this day forward I will not pay for an official piece of Sailor Moon material released from this date forward. I am boycotting Sailor Moon for the actions of Naoko Takeuchi — make no mistake Viz and Toei Animation are culpable as well, but in their defense, they are transparent in that they make the real culprit clear — the woman who authored the manga that inspired the anime and now has taken over the inspired creation.

She understands it's going to be a hard path, but she will face that path. And she's doing it because god help you if you call Sailor Moon Usagi.

I know my action alone is meaningless, but I encourage others to not pay and not give anything official any more time. It’s not enough to complain. We have to take the power away from them that we gave them to redress this wrong.

Sailor Moon CX will no longer update. As much as I would love to finish the story in a “Take That” no one reads it and no one cares, so I am abandoning it. I won’t burden people with my presence much longer.

To conclude, Viz is a monster, Naoko Takeuchi is a monster, and she's not posting her fanfic anymore.

Also there's a site!

The post concludes:

Edit: I’m back.

Youthwank: LJ is protecting children!

[info]elfwreck
Livejournal decided to tag fanficrants as may contain explicit content, which means that nobody logged in as under 18 can see the posts. People logged out can see them, and click the "Yes I'm 18" button—but ffrants doesn't allow anon or non-member commenting. Officially, it doesn't allow sockpuppets, either.

The wank is playing out in a couple of posts at ffrantsrants

jinxy_sama is surprised anyone's upset:
I thought it already was marked Explicit Adult Content. I have to say I find it surprising that so many of you who so vehemently disapprove of loli/shouta ... would not dissuade actual underage individuals from creating socks or moving to DreamWidth in order to view content inappropriate for children, ie. rape, bdsm, a myriad of different kinks, explicit smut, etc, etc. With the comm in such disarray over the inability of minors to partake, maybe it's a good thing LJ took the reigns."
Several people point out that "not wanting kids to read x-rated fanfic" is not the same as "not wanting kids to read ranting about fanfic, some of which is x-rated." It's also pointed out that some of the "minors" now being excluded are legal adults in their countries of residence.

But, she continues, sending a lemon to a person under the age of consent via email constitutes corruption of a minor, which, if prosecuted by a parent, could land someone in jail. That's not wank, it's fact. (Plz to ignore the total lack of any such prosecutions in the history of the internet. It's fact that it could happen!)

Yeah, says izzanami, you think telling kids to go to DW to see things ADULTS get triggered and squicked by is alright? You may think that sex should be an open subject for children (and I think it should be), but unless YOU are their PARENT, it doesn't matter.

(All arguments are more persuasive with some words in caps. Really.)

Jinxy says "it should be up to the minor in question's parent/guardian to decide what they deem suitable for their children's eyes, not any random person on the internet."

(LJ's staff is, of course, not "any random person on the internet." You *know* they polled the parents of every minor on that comm.)

Izza brings on the Special Logic: Even though *she's* an enlightened and sensible parent who doesn't believe in hiding the existence of sex from kids, it's totally reasonable for LJ to take a stand against it, because not every parent agrees with her, and *of course* policies should be based on the most hysterical parents' wishes.

Buried in the (mostly frozen now) subthreads are bits about how LJ is only protecting itself from lawsuits (which nobody is admitting has nothing to do with whether or not the content is dangerous for children), and speculations about the real purpose/intent of the "May Contain Explicit Content" tag: "Once a comm has even one entry marked as explicit it's supposed to be marked as 'may' contain explicit adult content, that "may" part is very important."—because once a comm. has a single locked-to-adults post, no minors should be allowed to join that comm.. Riiiiight.

Also includes tangential wank about whether FFR does, or does not, disapprove of loli. IDEK.

jadedissola explains the whole situation to an unhappy 15-year-old:
But we have to protect you from reading about such naughty things, otherwise you might get IDEAS and you might start thinking about trying this S-E-X thing for yourself! Clearly, without all this talk of sex, you'll never think of trying it on your own/fantasize about celebrities! What's worse, you might get the idea that sex is something to be enjoyed, maybe even celebrated! You need to understand that sex can KILL YOU (or at least give you babies).

Try again in three years when, magically, you become an adult overnight and suddenly your brain will be capable of handling all these grown-up ideas.

Reasoned and reasonable literary criticism, Kradam-style

[info]urpletastic
First attempt at posting, although I've been barracking from the sidelines for about a millennium now ...

[info]astolat posts A Matter Of Inconvenience, which is American Idol slashfic (Kris/Adam) with a 'Regency' setting. At least, that's the general idea, and harmless enough you would have thought - assuming that AI AU RPS is your thing. (Alphabet soup!)

[info]zvi, however, takes exception. Amongst other objections, A Matter of Inconvenience is not about race, thoughtlessly invokes colonial issues, and just doesn't put up any warning flags for those who are about to read it. Also, apparently, this is a thing Astolat fucked up. Everybody, please to endeavor not to fuck up like that with your next happy fun sexytimes historical.

What starts off as moderately polite discussion about historicity in slash fanfiction is, however, quickly derailed by [info]willow who offers the following reasoned evaluation: In the middle of the cuppa tea, the empire waist dresses and the ass-sex of your AU Regency - please to be remembering the hydra heads of colonialism and imperialism and what that means for and about your whitey white penis salt lick fan thought of the moment.

[info]liviapenn tries to calm things down a bit with some entertaining stuff about plumbers and blow jobs but this only serves to upset [info]willow further. Why is it that everytime I see you lately, you're happily shoving your foot into your mouth via your hindquarters? ... You keep claiming to understand your privilege and say you're reflecting on it and then you start chomping that feces encrusted shoe leather again. [info]willow's User Info states "'M brown and I have an attitude." No kidding.

[info]astolat's attempt to explain herself gets stomped on, and the desirability of historical accuracy in a Kris/Adam Regency alternate universe is lathered, rinsed and repeated for those who missed it the first time.

Small, but strangely vitriolic given the subject matter. It's difficult to imagine why people are getting quite so over-excited about one piece of costumed fluff in a universe of lesbian cars and tentacle porn, but it may keep us entertained while we're waiting for next incarnation of VB.

ETA: Okay, I get the message, I got it wrong - or maybe I just don't have a sense of humour? Either way, it was obviously a bad call. Lesson learned.

Hermione Granger - Voldemort in the making

[info]mariem_1
A Slytherfan [info]terri_testing writes an essay The Wizarding World and the Otherworld, where she argues that Harry Potter books are horror, not fantasy and that Hogwarts is like the school where the Native American children were brainwashed:

The essay provokes a chorus of "I agree"s and complaints about JKR's treatment of Snape:

[info]mary_j_59 (see "Good night, sweet prince, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!")

This is brilliant, Terri! And absolutely consistent. You know, my sister and I went to hear Rowling, Irving and King in NYC, and we both liked John Irving (reading from Owen Meany) best. Now the reason is clear. Rowling is actually a horror writer, like King, and I do not like horror. Still less do I like horror disguised as a children's fantasy quest. Irving, on the other hand, was writing in the great tradition of picaresque novels - a tragicomedy with a moral core.

But what I still wonder is: did (and does) Rowling know that she has actually written a dystopion/horror story? Somehow I don't think she realizes this.

[info]condwiramurs/[info]00sevvie

I second the 'brilliant' comment. And I highly doubt Rowling is aware of what she has actually written. She is too utterly blind to the reasons we like Severus, for example, to have any clue that she may have written something different from what her perfect picture of her work in her head is. I'm sure she thinks we're just getting it 'wrong.'

[info]oryx_leucoryx (see Cry the Beloved Slytherins)

So if Severus Snape actually survived Nagini's bite, returned to the Muggle world and became some kind of counselor to delinquent youth or someone who runs an anti-bullying program (by working both with victims and perpetrators) he would be a hero with a rather protracted but complete journey? Starting out as the victim of neighborhood bullies (I doubt Petunia was the only one who knew that the strangely dressed kid was the Snape boy from Spinner's End) who must have dreamed that magic would solve his problems, learned that magic simply gave bullies more dangerous/'interesting' ways to hurt people, played a key role in getting rid of the biggest bully in the magical playground and came home to use non-magical ways against bullies?
***
bohemian_spirit has some fics in that general direction - in her 'Light Between the Cracks' series Severus Snape of canon years was secretly married to a Muggle school teacher and while at his Muggle home watched over the neighborhood children. And in her 'Professor Grunge' Severus immigrates to the US instead of joining the Death Eaters. He studies at a wizarding university and becomes a teacher who fights bullying and uses music to assist in magical healing.

But the real fun starts when [info]night_train_fm decides to argue with [info]terri_testing and says, among other things:

'Hermione exiling her parents to Australia'
She did that because she was terrified (with good reason) of the DEs coming after them: Voldemort was taking over the government, had already ordered several public mass-Muggle-killings, and anyone remotely connected to Harry was a potential target. According to Jo, Hermione reversed the spell ASAP once the threat was over. For that matter, is it ever outright stated that she didn't sit down and discuss it with them first?

That doesn't go well.

Hermione is teh ebil! )

“Pro Tip: Don’t Lend Money in SL”

[info]duraniedrama
I'm sure most of you know about Second Life thanks to the My Ponies Hate You incident. So here's a sample of SL drama that, for a change, has nothing to do with furries or pixelsex.

One of the draws of Second Life is the ability to create content that can be bought and sold for Linden Dollars (L$) which can, in turn, be bought and sold for actual cash. Clothing design is a large enough industry to merit an entire network of Second Life fashion blogs such as Shopping Cart Disco. And, face it, where there are fashionistas, even virtual ones, there's going to be drama.

Meet Brinks Lemmon. [WARNING! Embedded music player--switch off speakers or scroll down to the bottom to shut the damn thing off if you click that link.] She introduces herself thusly:

Hey guys my name is Jessica, but I go by Brinks Lemmon in secondlife. I started this blog since I love fashion in secondlife and I am always trying to create that " cute " or " hot " outfit. I started this so I can post outfits that I have created, for the secondlife public to enjoy. I will be posting all different styles of outfits since I shop at many different stores, so I hope you enjoy what I will be posting!

P.S. I would very much appreciate your feedback on the outfits that I post!

Note she's not even talking about clothing that she's created herself, but 'outfits' composed of other people's designs. No biggie. Lots of SL fashion bloggers do that. Some even acquire 'review copies' from designers looking for exposure. However, begging designers for review copies is pretty bad form. And when somebody calls you out on it on SLSecret (Secret #5), you know you're starting to piss people off.

Then Ms. Lemmon goes from begging for free clothes to begging for free money. Shopping Cart Disco posts a teal dear chat transcript with someone she hit up for Lindens and never paid back. (The name of the lender has been redacted to "Avatar.")

[2008/06/14 11:52] Brinks Lemmon: My CC isnt working, and the bank is insisting that there is a malfunction on the card.. * what ever that means.. * so I cant pay my tier, etc.. without my car so I was wondering if you could loan me 4000L$-5000L$ just until I can pay you back in like 2-3 days
[L$5000 is about $20 USD]
[2008/06/14 11:52] Avatar: i will on this one occasion, OK?
[2008/06/14 11:53] Avatar: but i obviously will need the money back
[2008/06/14 11:53] Brinks Lemmon: You are a life saver..
[2008/06/14 11:53] Brinks Lemmon: I have had some RL problems lately, my mother is in the hospital she just got into a car accident and stuff
[2008/06/14 11:53] Brinks Lemmon: SO I am running around trying to get things done and stuff
[2008/06/14 11:53] Brinks Lemmon: Really hectic atm
[2008/06/14 11:54] Avatar: ok, np
[2008/06/14 11:54] Brinks Lemmon: You are such a life saver Avatar, tysm
[2008/06/14 11:55] Avatar: it’s OK
[2008/06/14 11:56] Avatar: pay me back in a week or so when your card is working ;)
[2008/06/14 11:57] Brinks Lemmon: Definitley, thanks again!

And, as we could safely predict, our Miss Brinks promptly paid her back the moment she had the money blew off her benefactor for over a year and eventually used the Mute function to keep her from contacting her.

The day after SCD posted the chat transcript, Miss Brinks posted a tearstained apology [SAME WARNING AS BEFORE!] which also mentions something about her selling gift cards for Sugarcube which may have been hacked, and which resulted in the designer shutting down the store to fix whatever glitch that entailed. (I'm pretty sure the designer in question is Japanese, and thus her blog isn't too clear on the details.)

The comments in the SCD post let slip one interesting bit of information . . .

Well, here is where I can tell you all something that myself and a friend decided to keep quiet because it’s their choice but NOW screw that! She is not a she, she is a he. A he who doesn’t know that their voice thinga ma jig wasn’t working and was totally exposed. He continued on with the I’m a girl thing so we just went along, then we figured it out that he thought his voice was still being disguised. Then even goes as far to tell me he is preggo in RL. I thought wow this guy is pretty hard into the fantasy but ya know whatever flips your switch. I was nice, helpful, giving to this person as I will be with the next because that is me, but don’t mistake it for stupidity, naive a bit probably but that is slowly being chiseled away. But then I read all this, and all these people he has taken advantage of, lied to, stolen from and dammit I am pissed. F U BRINKS DO NOT EVER TALK TO ME AGAIN.
AND YOUR NOT A GIRL GET OVER IT

Second Life has voice chat--not everybody uses it--and people can use filters if their voice doesn't match their avatar of choice very well. But, apparently, it doesn't always work. Guys with female avies (or, for that matter, gals with male avies) are nothing unusual, but guys with female avies who claim to be pregnant in real life? That's . . . extra-special.

So, not a huge drama, but all the classic wank elements in a single lemony slice for ya.

OMG THINK OF THE IMAGINARY CHILDREN!!!!111!11

[info]digigirl132
So today's Fandom Secrets post had a secret about a show called Kodomo no Jikan. WHat is Kodomo no Jikan about? Honestly I have no idea, but going by the posts in the community it's some anime about an elementary school girl who tries to have sex with her teacher.

Oh, but wait! Kodomo no Jikan is actually deep and meaningful!

Fandom Secrets' response: bitch say WHAT!?

But people keep defending it, because it really is more than pedobait! Seriously! Also, there's lots of South Park comparisons, because the two series are so much alike! But some say it's not.

Either way, there's a lot of fail on both sides.

The aftermath of "Breaking Dawn"

[info]cleolinda
We are falling behind on the Sparkledammerung, you guys. Previously: Twilight had its own Carpet Book. Fresh off the truck:

>> Don't Burn It, Return It!
Just got back from Borders, where they took back my book with no problem. Got into a discussion with the cashier about how I was the 15th (!!!) person to bring my book back today. Seems like many customers felt that SM was not true to her characters and her self created Twilight world, and are calling foul.
(See also: Half.com's BD listing; more anecdata at iworkatborders and ONTD).

>> Two new communities are up, mmmcradle (specifically protesting spoiler )) and whysofailsmeyer, and those are just the ones I know of.

>> Epic ONTD post is epic, complete with macros and Dark Knight rewrites (ALFREDS EYES WERE A BUTTERY, BURNING GOLD; HIS PERFECT FACE ALMOST SEVERE WITH THE DEPTH OF HIS EMOTION AS HE STARED INTO MY EYES AND SHOUTED "NEVAH").

I hear the Twilight Moms board is supposed to open back up today (apparently Stephenie Meyer asked her fan boards to go on hiatus prior to the book release...?), so that should be interesting. ETA: The Twilight Moms loved it! Bless. ETA 2: ... And so it begins. ETA 3: And continues! ETA 4: NO DISSENT!

ETA 5: It was a social experiment test, Twihards, and you failed it! Also: Godwin's. Also-also: She couldn't have been referencing Lolita... could she?

ETA 6: OH SHI--

ETA 7: Alleged MySpace defriending by the author!

ETA 8: A new letter-writing campaign: EDIT MOAR; a J/B shipper decides to rewrite the book.

By the way, you guys, if something else happens, feel free to post a new entry. I'll be over here battening down the LJ hatches.

ETA 9: Seriously, people, there is some fantastic wank linked in the comments now. SOMEONE ELSE TAKE A TURN ON THE CAROUSEL.

Epilogue Wank, Twilight Style

[info]tehrin
Mucho gracias to the folks over on [info]wank_report. AND A SPOILER WARNING WITH EXTRA SPARKLES FOR TWILIGHT FANS. I suggest Twilight fans who actually care that much about being spoiled avoid this post like the plague.

Why do I feel we've been through this before? )
ETA: Fixed the tag on the last link. Sorry, folks.
ETA3: A support request was entered by someone claiming to be from a law firm, claiming to represent the publishing group with a pretty much standard letter that has been going around like a strain of herpes to people leaking the book or even discussing spoilers (julian_black explains exactly why here). I don't think intellectual property laws work that way.

text can be found here )

Other posts concerning the leaks can be found here and a twilight_news (thanks to [info]hooloovoo_too). Possible confirmation of some of the spoilers has also sparked more wank over here.

There's some more fun over at ontd (the macros start on page 2). The OP itself only concerns the movie, but that doesn't stop people from wanking over the spoilers.

ETA4: system is love.

Go System! )

And there's now been blurry confirmation on spoilers (thanks to [info]miraba).

ETA5: Ok, guys, lay off the Mormons or I'm going to have to ask you to get out of the pool. I really, really, REALLY hate to quote [info]mcity but plz no Mormon bashing. Let's have some class.

ETA6: SMeyer allegedly wrote a parody version of Breaking Dawn according to this EW article (thanks to [info]greenconverses).

Fail mods are failing

[info]sepiamagpie
Dearest, beloved, Fandom Wank.

I know you were looking forward to great excitement today. Some of you said words to me that indicated you anticipated fiery 'judgement' upon those who remained fresh and dewey white, those you call n00bs.

Anyway, you got today instead.

Stop anticipating things, we'll just break your hearts.

Sincerely,

Sepia P. Magpie, Esq.

PS: Use this post to reflect on how you could be better people. Or just fuck around in the comments.

War Gaming: Can't We All Just Get Along?

[info]aeanagwen
You may notice my phrasing below touch on the vague side. This is because I'm not actually in this fandom; my guyfriend modeler directed me to it.

So, there's this subset of tabletop games called war games. It involves using little tin-sculpted figures to play out strategies and battles and objectives and the like. One of the systems for it is called War Machine, put out by Privateer Press. Geared to be a brutal, violent, and above all MACHO affair, every War Machine book has a page near the start which espouses its philosophy in one glorious page of over-the-top fappery. The content of this page (Page 5, specifically--yes, it's the same in every War Machine book ever) can be summed up in one phrase, also the motto of the scenario:

Play Like You've Got A Pair.

Now, a cousin-system for War Machine is called Hordes. One of the races in Hordes is called the Skorne. With a vaguely Asian armor design which appeals to many, the Skorne are savage nomads with an exceptionally harsh, militaristic way of life developed to match their harsh native environments. They also torture animals in order to get full use out of them. Giant elephant-like beasts called titans are kept in control with hooks and chains by a class called Paingivers; the Skorne are said to have raised the methods and results of torture to an art. It's one of the race's main themes, in fact. Now, it's no secret that War Machine and Hordes have a history of putting out very twisted fluff (extra material) for the races of the fantasy world in which the systems are set, the Iron Kingdoms. As sure as D&D Monster Manuals get more horrible with every new installment, there's a certain kind of war game that probably pays its developers more for every horrified shudder that they can evoke.

But now? Oh, now they've gone too far.

No baby elephants were harmed in the posting of this wank. )

(First wank, hurt me gently, etc.)

It's of utmost importance for you to know what a pervert you are

anaerobica
Slightly stale and quite small wank from the Comic Book Resources forums, where I'm sure there's lots more wank I'm not planning to fish out. But this one felt kinda appropiate after Boldthrough.

bmschweigert posts the link to a Supergirl fanart, apparently mistaking it for an official picture.

Alex A Sanchez:
I love her current costume. It might be neat to read a few stories about this "cute" supergirl, but as far as the regular comic, I like my "sexy" Kara very much thank you.

Cue Ravenwing263 registering (or sockpuppeting) just to tell that dirty bastard off:
Dude, she is a sixteen year-old girl. Unless you are a boy under the age of eighteen, you are a disgusting pervert.

trickster points the obvious:
You registered to call somebody a pervert? What a loser.

Alex A Sanchez enlightens us:
#1. She's a fictional character, dweeb. Her "age" is whatever the reader projects it to be. (???) That would make you a pervert for projecting anything disgusting about the character.

Ravenwing263 is still mad and not taking it anymore:
And, finally, yes, I would still have made the statement if you were gay, or a straight woman, because you still professed your interest in carrying on the disgusting, sexist tradition of a "sexy Supergirl."

They have this new thing now, called "porn." If you try it, you won't have to keep getting the pages of your comic books stuck together.

Think of the Lolis!

[info]criticalcricket
Remember that Answerman kerfuffle with the Answerman bashing loli? The main issue was a Seven Seas manga release called Nymphet, a loli-themed manga. Someone posted a page of the manga with a young school girl writing down a request for her teacher to ejaculate inside of her.

I hope for you to ejaculate inside of me )

Well, the title has been put on Hiatus, no wait, it's been completely canceled! Cue the finger pointing! Quite a few fingers jab in the direction of our recent lj censorship/delete fest wank. Cries of censorship go up. People froth at the mouth and vow never to buy Seven Seas manga again.

Oh, won't someone think of the lolis? They think of you, ejaculating inside of them.

As a semi-related aside, ANN has posted about the deleted/suspended journals issue.

Edit: And now there's a follow-up and the first comment brings another wave of wank. Seven Seas' manager, Adam Arnold, releases another statement giving a timeline of events, their reasoning behind the decision and replies to some of the accusations and insults that have been flung at the company. Despite the discussion link saying there are 17 replies to the article, when I click it I get a "No posts exist for this topic" message. Adam Arnold also mentions the situation on his Aoi House blog. (BTW, Aoi House is a fund read full of fannish humor and Arnold does some interesting blogging in that bottom space about his job and his fannisness in general [/plug]) And so the saga continues.

[info]jetamors
Figure it's big enough to put here.

So first, [info]pornish_pixies is mysteriously suspended. No explanation, at least so far. And so is [info]sbrb_blackcest, [info]shota, [info]wonkaslash, [info]lol_porn, and [info]afamilyaffair, as well as some of Ataniell's RP journals. Other comms ([info]dailydeviant, [info]hp_incest) seem to have self-deleted in an attempt to ride out the wave. Starting to notice a pattern?

[info]liz_marcs thinks she's found the culprit; Warriors for Innocence has recently turned their vigilante anti-child-porn eye onto LJ, and they don't like what they see. She's written an email to them, and promises to tell us all about their reply a bit later. (Note: people are reporting SPYWARE on the WfI website, so be careful.)

It's plenty wanky already, with people mostly locking down their content and/or shaking their fists, but I don't see any way that this will not balloon into a screaming match that makes Fanlib look like a tea party once people start getting home from work and [info]liz_marcs posts WfI's response.

ETAs:
There's a running tally of suspended/deleted comms and LJs here.

Femmequixotic gets a reply: pornish_pixies was TOS'd for the incest

Also, to those who find the server particularly robust, adding ?style=mine or ?format=light to the end of the link or hitting ctrl-shift-R to clear your cache may help a bit.

The response to liz-marc's email: WfI says they didn't report any fandom comms, and weren't even aware of fandom at all. Are they in CYA mode, or is our princess really in another castle?

You know it's big when Aja and Heidi are talking to each other again. (Or they made up yoinks ago and this is non-news, but why ruin the moment with facts?)

By modly suggestion, some options for reducing server robustness:
1) Cool it on the macros
2) Turn off images in your browser. Images can be turned off in Firefox via Tools -> Options -> Content and then either switch off "load images automatically" or block JF via the exceptions. In IE, it's Tools -> Options _> Advanced -> Multimedia -> Show Images.

ljsupport makes an official post. And it's somewhat... lacking:
ljsupport's response )

WfI has made at least two new posts since all this went down, sticking their foot further into their mouth each time. (Note: people are reporting SPYWARE on the WfI website, so be careful.)

People scream at LJ on a news post, from page 6 to... maxing out at page 100, with 5000 comments. And they've now moved to the next older post, which has gone from 17 pages to 40. Oh dear.

LJ finally speaks! ... to the press.

And while we're waiting for LJ's official statement to us... apparently WfI really *is* run by racist homphobic anti-immigration far-far-right-wing Christian dominionists. This is TV-movie perfect, y'all; all it needs is Kevin Bacon teaching us how to dance.

JF is going down for a bit this evening, so don't panic. (I'll delete this ETA when it comes back up.)

You know it's bad when even Perverted Justice is calling you a moron:
The pwnage )

You've probably all seen this already, but LJ's reponse is here; comments have, of course, already been maxed out. Text here.

... of course, this came after one of the CEOs talked to Metafilter about it. I'm feeling so unloved. *tear*

And new news post: a bunch of stuff has been or will be unsuspended, to boil it down.

Eww, you got icky underage HP slash on me!

[info]squib
[info]curefreak asks the Blog_Sociology comm the not wanky at all question "why slash and other porn writings (I'm not familiar with the terms) are considered acceptable, or, at the very least, overlooked in the main".

However, it turns out that s/he is merely clueless of what these words mean, as their *real* point is about underage fic: I'm aware there may be an argument that these characters are fictional. However, were someone to set up a community on here, writing porn about an imaginary 14 year old boy or girl, I'd imagine there would be an outcry

The comments, predictably, are full of wank. They're also really full of stupid.

All fanfic writers are children, women, writing "girly porn", immoral, and should be bludgeoned to death. Got it.

(I think this one is wanky enough to pass Clairvoyant and go right to the mothership, especially now that [info]metafandom has picked it up.)

Oh noes, Will someone think of the Imaginary Children...eleventy-one...

[info]ballseyboo
Manga News translates this article into English. It's an article about at least 30% of the adult manga involves children and that the manga are easily accessible to children so the Japanese agency is going to caution the adult manga store owners. All is fine and dandy until Anime News Network misquotes takes a part of the article and puts on their index page. Predictably, this lovely wank erupts (Though from what I read of the posts, there is never ending loli wank in the forums).

Naruto pedophilia wank!

[info]jetamors
des_butterfly posts a link to her KakaSasu essay to chuunin. Normally a ship manifesto might not be a big deal, but Sasuke is 12-15 in canon, and Kakashi is his mentor. Naturally, allthingsaaron feels the need to inform us all that pedophilia is Sick and Wrong:

Pretty lengthy rationalization for fantasizing about a nearly 30 year old man fucking a barely-pubescent boy.

Some of the highlights:

"It doesn't matter if they're fictional characters!"

Obligatory Pedobear appearances

GRATUITOUS CAPSLOCK

The age of consent in Japan is somehow relevent to this discussion!

The author weighs in.

And just when Avatar thought it could start wanking with the big boys. *wipes tear*

ETA: And they've screened everything. Meanies :(

Won't somebody think of the superheroes?

[info]mcity
There's a post on scans_daily of Superman meeting Captain Marvel. It ends with Clark finding homeless Billy(Marvel's alter ego), and opening his shirt.[1],[2],[3],[4].

[info]lovecrafty: cut for length )

Oh, you betcha.

HP art wank. About wanking to art.

[info]tunxeh
Not very long, or very original, but amusing.

tiredofwired posts an innocuous and well drawn artwork of Harry sleeping, showing his bare backside.

Several commenters respond with the usual praise, assertions of how hot it is, etc., including reishishi, who humorously suggests getting out her vibrator.

societysedso doesn't see the humor and goes on for many comments about how expressing interest in a teenage fictional character makes one a pedophile, and it explodes from there. With bonus deleted posts, other parties getting in on the wankiness, animated legos, and more.

Your sick obsession is making my obsession look sick by association!

[info]arekuru
I've been resisting posting this wank, not because it's not wanky (it definitely is) but because I've already wanked Zac a couple of times for his column before. (Are there any specific rules on that?) But when he posted a follow-up column, well...

Anime News Network's Zac Bertschy, previously seen encouraging a yaoi "debate" and slamming fansubs, does not like lolicon. At all. And he'd really like you to know it. So when he received a letter last week asking What's the deal with all this "lolicon" stuff? Zac decided to take advantage of the ready-made soap box.

How would you like it if big media got a hold of this trend and decided to do a story on how anime fandom is a haven for pedophiles? )

You can imagine how that went over. It sparked 36 pages of "discussion" on the boards which, for ANN, is one hell of a lot of pages.

Loli brings out all the bad analogies to the yard. )

But that's not the end of it. Oh no.

This week, Zac decides his last column was so "successful" he's going to devote this one entirely to the responses he got.

...not unlike some kind of flame-baiting sundae )

Zac prints four responses, 3 telling him how correct he is and one half-disagreeing which Zac then tears apart.

And the forums are off again...
