Fandom Wank has now been placed on post moderation due to excessive trolling. A one-liner idiot post where everyone can have some snarky fun in the comments is perhaps mildly tolerated once, repeated offensive attacks is another thing. All posts have now been deleted.

One of the reasons for moderation is that due to the trolling [info]zorrorojo has removed account creation. There should be no reason that the behavior of a few should spoil it for everyone. (Although there are those who might say the same thing about FW in comparison to fandom.)

Having posts on moderation would stop any sort of trolling like that occuring again and enable accounts to stay open. It might also cause people to be a little more cautious and thoughtful before posting a wank: perhaps taking the time to fully explore it's potential, writing it up clearly or not rushing so much to be the first to get a post up that the original content is removed before any wank actually occurs.

We're taking these steps to stop this type of trolling from occuring again, it doesn't have to be a dramatic change to community. We'll try to unscreen wanks as quickly as we can and keep things running smoothly. In the case of two screened posts reporting the same wank, the mods will pick the one that is more complete.

Thoughts?

The posts were deleted? Whaaaa!! A lot of the comments were good. You should have just edited the comments to read "PENIS', COCKS, DICKS, OH MY! (x 1000)" or something.

We can't. Mods can only delete entries, not edit them.

You could just get the password for the account from ZR and use it to edit the post, seeing as the account is not going to be returned to the creator.

That seems... unethical, in a vague troubling way.

Unlike mocking hapless people for fun, that's guilt free!

Normally I'd agree, but this isn't a case of screwing with a legitimate user's account. The account was created sheerly to troll. And, one assumes, will be booted from JF.

Of course, ultimately, I tend to agree that deleting it is better than modifying it. When people posted comments, they really should have known the entry would inevitably be deleted.

I was having a grand old time in the comments, but I knew they were going to vanish eventually. No skin off my back. I'd rather not have my FL quite so cluttered.

It's a moot point now, as the entries are gone.

Passwords are encrypted, so it's not quite that easy.

Though, by changing the email address, it could be done.

We added password encryption to the livejournal code because we didn't like the security ramifications of plain text passwords stored in the database.

Which, I must say, I do kinda appreciate. Security is more important than some idiot troll, that's for sure.
