Multiple Wank Communities
Please feel free to mock if this has been brought up before, but I didn't see any posts about it, so...

As a lurker, I've noticed some mild annoyance about the various split-off communities, like hp_cornfield, gaia_wank, etc, because it's all well and good to have a different comms for fandoms that are so prolific that every other wank is about them, but eventually they start to taper off and we're left with communities that are basically dead and wankless.

So I guess my thought is, would it be possible to have one big community for annoying fandoms? It could be like the naughty list, where bad fandoms go until they can behave themselves. When they calm down, they could come back to f_w proper like everyone else.

Thoughts?

I think splitting them up is better because that allows users to read only about those fandoms that they are interested in. I'm interested in HP insanity, but I don't really need to keep track of what goes on in Twilight, and I don't even know what Gaia is. So for me it's nice not to have a comm that has all of these and several more fandoms, but only pick those that I actually know something about.

I was going to say the Little House on the Prairie fandom, but then I remembered that God-awful Laura/Almonzo vs. Nellie/Almonzo flap that I thought would NEVER die.

I tend to find it annoying that so many communities are split off. I don't understand why people have such an aversion to scrolling past wank reports they don't want to read in the main community until the popularity of whatever is popular at the time wanes. However, my outlook is clearly an extreme minority, so I can put up with joining however many extra communities I have to join so the majority doesn't have to see whatever it is they are trying to avoid seeing.

I think it's a silent majority. It's just the minority that complains about there being too much of X kind of wank is quite vocal.

I know it's scared off quite a few people from posting to f_w before - quite a bit of Twilight wank hits [info]sparklefield first because the OPs are scared of being bitched out on f_w, even though sparklefield isn't a wank comm proper (it's more like a fandom_lounge that dazzles your chagrin away).

THIS - I've never understood that. It always strikes me a a bit ironic since the community is about wank that people wank about having to scroll!

Uh, isn't this what's kind of happened? HP wank is back in FW, and nobody rational steps foot on Gaia.

Maybe change the userinfo to reflect that, though the 'send Harmonian/DanEmma wank to the HP Cornfield' is mostly noted in the userinfo by listing [info]hp_cornfield or [info]dl_anon under the affiliates. So, it doesn't seem like its enforced by anything but mob rule.

A major reason [info]gaia_wank is incredibly dead is because most wank there involves incredibly underage people. It's still wanky as hell, hourly. But even if you're sure the OP of a wanky thread is over 18, it's almost certain that a large proportion of the commenters are not.

(I'm not certain if FW and its associated communities are the only ones that stick to the no-wankers-under-18 rule or not, but the general philosophy of it not being fair to wank people who can't legally be here has pretty much spread all over JF.)

(I mean, man did I ever want to report the wank that went down recently when it was revealed that two Gaia NPCs in a popular fan 'ship were actually cousins. OMG was it hilarious, the fan outrage and rants against the artists was so schadenfreudy I cried laughing. But a quick check of a few user profiles led me to sigh and keep it to myself.)

Then again, I don't bother with Gaiawank much anymore. It's like IMDB. Someone, somewhere, is always wanking over something (case in point: the Halloween event. And then the thread in GCD comparing the Overseer to Obama. And...you know what, I'll just stop here).

I think that the split communities should be closed, and that we shouldn't be splitting again. The whole reason HP was spun off was because Harmonians were getting butthurt everywhere, and there were still a number of so-aligned people around here at that time. Admittedly, gaia_wank was spun because it was and remains incredibly stupid, and dl_anon had similar problems. However, for things like Gaia, we should just institute the same rule that we did for IMDB: if it isn't choice, grade-A wank (and with both Gaia and IMDB, it almost always isn't), don't even bother.

f_w is about fandom behaving badly--and us mocking it. Remove the "misbehaving fandoms" and there is no f_w.
