Looking for Batshit Group?
My girlfriend has discovered Usagi Kou and the Wiki tonight and having a grand time reading all the wank reports and articles over the years. However, this brought to mind another batshit insane person/group that was sorta similar but not quite that is several years old. I don't think it was ever really reported on Fandom Wank, although I've seen the link a couple of times.

It was written as a personal testimony of how batshit insane a group was - the person who wrote it up had met the group online, ended up going to visit them and practically moved in. It might have been in the Sailor Moon fandom, but don't quote me on that. The person had first thought everything was wonderful, had been assigned a person that he or she was suppose to be in the group and then realized everyone really seem to think they were the person they were assigned and they kept on demanding money and maybe only one of them had a job? And I want to say there was something about a pair of sneakers - like maybe it was all the person ended up when they finally decided to get the hell out of that group.

And I'm really telling this badly but I'm hoping it ring a bell with someone. It always struck me as a sort of fandom ghost story - a link to the story that crops up in the middle of the oddest wank when telling stories of the most insane people/group you've ever heard of.

Anyone? Please?

Pretty standard disclaimer at this point, but just to be sure:

BOTH parties involved there are batshit insane. I've talked to both Ek (Kat) and Zarla online a few times, and they're far, far more obsessed and violent than the people they "warn" about. Keep in mind while reading just how far the writers/victims went along with the bullshit. And keep in mind that if someone threw a hissy fit in your house by writing on your walls and then calling you a cult, you'd act like a bitch as well for a while after. Kat had the hojo.org site long before Jen and Rene took over and has actually bought most of it back at this point, because she's spent the last seven years drawing and scanning literally tens of thousands of pictures of Professor Hojo. That's either dedication or batshit insanity, you decide - in any case, she's as dysfunctional as the people she's describing, and the whole thing's most likely just a big one-sided vengeance act.

Then again, I've never had a chance to talk to Jen and Rene, so who knows. They may actually be a pair of schizophrenic leeches. Just don't take it all at face value.

Soshi is a flaming little attention whore. I'd love to know, really how the hell she was omg locked in a room for three months, and omg the sole breadwinner of the group at the same time.

Given that in the year I've known Rene she's been - well, when I met her she was looking actively for a job; she now has one, and as a result, natch, is not online as much. So do the other two roomies, and Jen does the domestic business, if I'm recalling right.

Leeches they ain't. Somewhat eccentric, maybe, but fuck, so am I, and so are trekkies. XD Half the LJs Soshi links there are either character journals (jenny-ova is not even Jen, chrissakes, it's another chick - and she's put a hellpful disclaimer in the userinfo, hee) or taken out of context.

Plus - the Snape-in-Midgar thing? Who the hell takes that seriously!?

Thanks again for the disclaimer. I'm real damn tired of people taking Soshi's hysterical BS twaddle at face value. (And if she believes that what she made up honestly happened to her, i.e. the forcible confinement and shit - she is ill, and needs help.)

Further, seeing as Jen is no longer comfortable going online AT ALL most of the time because of Soshi's constantly sending fuckheads to harass her, and Rene has had to switch journals many times to shake off these fuckheads? Gee, I wonder who the batshit one is.

No prob? I know that it's not - yeah. I get frustrated and my default face is :E when this story comes up, because - yeah.

I know firsthand how shitty it is to the the rumour mill's target. No one stood up for my happy ass 'til Dee and then my fiancé, so I decided, fuck that, like I'm gonna let my friends twist in the wind when [people are making shit up about them.

I haven't ever spoken to Soshi; I have no desire to since she'll probably just decide I'm like - the bastard offspring of Dame Vaako and Rufus Shinra ans that i'm after her Lucky Charms. All I want is for her to grow up and go AWAY.

People will sha things that are untrue and if they are hellbeint on making someone's life shit, they will repeat these things over and over and over.

F'r example, the little sociopathis titspider thing in my grade seven class who decided it'd just be soooooo lolzfunneh to make up a little story about me and noise it around. She decided it'd be waiwai lololol to tell people that I was abusing or molesting my little sister.

Of course, I was NOT, and the rumour never got anywhere, but - yeah. Some people are just repellent asshats and they think it's entertaining to screw people over for attention and lulz. I get flaily when people go 'but but but' and point out that oh if there's that much kerfuffle it MUST be about SOMETHING.

It -is- about something, but it's not what they expect? It's about the ego of some titspider. It was like that with Scribe, it's like that with Soshi, it was like that with that one little seventh-grade titspider rumour wanker. Some people are just dickheaded nincompoops?

And go you for standing up for your friends. :) It's never easy to do it, especially when such stories are out there and that's what most people recognize.

Personally, I've been lurking around fandom wank long enough to know that you seem to be a reasonable human being and if you vouch for your friends and say the other side are twats spreading rumors, I'm gonna give your words more weight than someone who obvious spent at least several hours/days putting together a website just to bash someone. And well, there are lots of holes in the story - as several other people have pointed out here.

Anyway, thank you again for sharing and I be sorry this has brought up so many bad memories and crankiness. *hugs again*

Huh. I don't know any of the other people involved, but Zarla's in several of my fandoms and I've talked to her a bit, and she's never struck me as totally batshit. A bit weird, yes, and the affected "speech" pattern is annoying, but she never gave me that "... okay, I think I'll just back away slowly now" feeling. Then again, maybe it doesn't necessarily come across in casual conversation -- or maybe I'm just oblivious.

Sometimes you gotta know 'em a while. I recebtly had a- thing with enelar/spirityouko, and I was all, 'Oh, okay, she's nto that ba--' and then suddenly she's asking me if I've WARNED by fiancé that I'm bisexual.

Because, y'know, we're all whores.

She managed to get almost a whole RP to bully the shit out of one player, too. That was about when I started getting the 'uh, what the fuck' feeling from her.

I took a rather demented pride in this when the story first broke--my fandom has crazies to match any of the big fandoms! :D--but I never really took it seriously. Are we honestly supposed to believe that an able-bodied, college educated woman was held captive, brainwashed, stripped of her paycheck, her shoes, her dignity, her right to life, and on and on and on without any sort of repercussions? C'mon.

So I was rather surprised when this popped up on The Awful Forums a few years later. Most of it is typical "OMG KILL IT WITH FIRE" goon hyperbole, but it gets interesting on the page I linked when user Nightcap starts posting; a few others chime with their own stories later on.

It just strikes me as an awful lot of smoke for there to be no fire, particularly since the folks at the Awful Forums weren't waging fandom war and didn't seem to be grinding axes. (If anything I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt, though, as it takes some steel nerves or some serious motivation to out yourself as a member of an internet fringe group over there.)

Regarding the smoke/fire deal though - remember Msscribe? It's so damn easy to sockpuppet, SO damn easy to make shit up and gain a following of people whose good faith can be taken advantage of.

Soshi seems to be modelling her accounts of this trauma off of a much older account of a neo-paganist who went about screwing others over and playing OMG PSYCHIC WARS. That account is here. You'll note a difference in tone, first of all. Soshi is hysterical look-at-me-look-at-me I suffered so, and oh my the way go stalk people's journals. The people who dealt with Madison are all 'this was shitty, we were dumb, won't get fooled again, and watch out for this lady.'

Jen may come off as flaky, but she is not, by any stretch of the imagination, like 'Madison' - which is the way people are endeavouring to portray her.

Also< Frankly? If these were the sort of people who regularly take advantage, as Soshi and Co. claim, they would have screwed me over. When I met them I was horriffically depressed and generally miserable, and if there was any ur-sew-spetchul 'recruitment' bullshit, I fucking missed all of it. XD Now, I'm an airhead, but I'm not that stupid. I know I was the epitome of fish in a barrell, and I got screwed over enough by so-called 'buddies' t prove it.

Rene did not screw me over. Jen did not try to convince me I was Vincent Valentine. Where is the oh em gee cult recruitment? I was online a lot when I met them. i was up late a lot, and thus was able to chat with them. (Toronto time zone shift, woo.)

They could have, if they were assholes, fucked me over at any time.

I have a job I love, I'm thriving, and I seriously think the reason I got that fucking interview at all was that Rene went 'keep looking on the stupid job board, there might be something today' and didn't let me keep fucking WHINING. XD

Sometimes a lot of smoke comes from tiny ass brushfires. I was the drama llamas' BITCH for my high school life. Trust me on this one, I knwo the kind of shit the attention-starved can come up with.

As someone who essentially stopped talking to Rene b/c of this, I'm going to say that I'd rather be safe than sorry. I've actually lived through accounts of psycho, money grubbing roommates, and don't want to bother being taken in by anyone else.
