StudiVZ, or: A study in how I don't know what to else write about
StudiVZ is sort of a German facebook for students, but better and with sparkles*.

And you can join all sorts of groups with fun titles that only work in German! So, for the benefit of those of you who know that language, here are my favorite groups I'm a member of:
    - Achtung! Es folgt eine Selbstdarstellung durch Gruppennamen
    - Vegetarier essen meinem Essen das Essen weg !!!
    - "Guten Morgen!"

There is admittedly a certain leitmotif. GUESS WHAT IT IS.

    *I lied about the sparkles.

    My PayPal balance is growing
I'm mercifully unhungover, despite my Amarula-and-Valium adventure last night. Yay!

Sold the Monsterbait: Underpants on eBay last night. Sad to see it go, but money is money, and right now, if I do get $150 from my mom's side of the family and $100 Amazon gift certificate from my dad (which is my usual holiday loot) I can get an Eee 1000HA outright! Also put the spare bottle of Chanukkiyah on eBay and added Te Po to my sales post, if any of you are interested.

I need to go to the post office to mail the Underpants, but I'm waiting on Maintenance to come fix my heater so I can't leave yet :(

Okay...on Daily Puppy, the two dogs of the day are Edward and Bella. This cannot be a coincidence.

So, I've given up on NaNo for this year.

I'm a little saddened, because I did feel like I was doing really well compared to normal this year. But last week I decided to leave the lazy and procrastinating Mr. Pish, so I've been spending all my time packing and trying to get my life in order.

Oh, and Wrath of the Lich King. That snuck its way into my time somehow too.

So on Sunday I'll be packing the computer up and Monday will commence the two-day drive from Washington back to Minnesota. It sucks massively, considering I have to leave all the animals behind and don't even get me started on the mess that is my car situation. Yesterday was so crummy I crawled in bed at 6pm and played DS games until I fell asleep.

But hey, new start, right? New job, maybe being able to go back to school, rent-free and grocery-cost-free for as long as I can stand my mom's house, new-and-improved as she may be. And maybe I'll be able to get back to my NaNo project and keep working on it.

    In conclusion, a screenshot! )

The 'German Joys' guy translated more Max Goldt texts into English. This is one that I have as an audio file and played 290 times, says Itunes. Never mind that I was probably sound asleep most of the time, that's still a proud number. At any rate, I like it, and it's the right time of the year for it too. The translation is maybe a bit clumsy in parts (I even think it's missing a sentence), but it's still better than anything I could do.

    why why why
I crawled off to bed around 1 am with 40mg of Valium and a few drinks under my belt and I woke up before 5 am WHAT THE FUCK.

Put my Monsterbait: Underpants up on eBay. Wondering if I should put the Chanukkiyah spare bottle up there as well.

Thankfully nothing from the BPTP update is tempting me. I am still wibbling over Candy Phoenix, though.

I have butterscotch/vanilla shots I got at Spec's... maybe I should have one... I'm in no mood to be clearheaded.

But I'm doing not so bad. Maintenance is supposed to come today to fix my lack of hot water in the kitchen (totally his fault), broken heater, and stiff backdoor lock (get your mind out of the gutter). My wrenched knee still hurts but it's not swollen or anything. I am looking grotesquely forward to getting an Eee. Falernum is tasty and makes me want to mix Tiki drinks. Cream of coconut, falernum, and a little spiced rum, what could go wrong?

Not having a blender, cream of coconut, or rum puts a cramp in that.

God, this entry makes me sound like a lush.

    MOSTLY a nice afternoon/evening
So, got to hang with [info]doombuggie this afternoon. Had an awesome time! We had a yummy meal at Jason's, some iced coffee at Epoch, hit Home Depot so he could get a watering can, went to Spec's (a big liquor/fancy foods store) for some goodies, HEB for some normal groceries, Walgreens for my Valium, and Earthbound for some crabs.

Wonderfully fun time, except in HEB, I saw my ex-husband... we walked right by him in the soda aisle. No words were exchanged, but I could tell he recognized me. Oh god oh god I am so glad I was not alone, or dressed schlumpily (I was rockin' a HolyClothing minidress and black leggings, which is my new favorite look). But oh god oh god oh god. I hadn't seen him since the divorce. I had thought that I would never see him again.

Well, after that we went to Walgreens and I downed two Valium right off. And when we were at Earthbound [info]doombuggie got me a crab to cheer me up. The crab in question is now named Dib.

The Valium is kicking in nicely, I feel comfortably blurred around the edges. If I still feel upset I have Amarula to mix with hot chocolate, or Keke Beach Key Lime Cream to mix with milk. I also have lots of good chocolate.

    S2 Layout Issues
Hi, Guys. I know a good many of the S2 themes are kinda hosed right now. Something changed with the LJ migration to their new data center. The Bloggish and Style Contest themes have their CSS hosted at LJ. That's by LJ's design, with how the code is distributed. The code is set to use LJ's CSS proxy to handle the access and display of the CSS settings. Since LJ's move, though, the CSS proxy has been kaput. But the CSS itself at LJ is still working. Until we can find a way around all this, a couple users have a way that you can use the Custom CSS in your customization area to get your layouts pretty damn close to the original for that layout and theme.

You'll enter two sets of code in that area. The first one would be the code from this URL:
    http://stat.livejournal.com/sixhtml/themes/common/base-weblog.css

Just go there, copy it, and paste into the custom CSS box.

And the second set you enter will be from the direct CSS URL for your specific theme. You can locate this URL by viewing the source of your journal in your browser (View Source code). If you scroll down to the <link rel="stylesheet" section of the source code, you'll see the direct url to your theme's CSS at livejournal. Go there, copy that code, and paste it after the base-weblog.css code above. Make sure you have "No" selected to use the included base code (it's a dropdown), and that the URL field above the custom CSS box is empty. Click to save changes, and your theme will display much as it is supposed to. There is occasionally an element like a border that doesn't come through, but it's pretty close. As an example of the CSS URLs, this is the one for the Baby theme for the Bloggish layout: http://stat.livejournal.com/sixhtml/themes/lilia/theme-baby.css The CSS URLS will be start with http://stat.livejournal.com/sixhtml with the rest varying by theme and layout. I'll still be looking for an alternative to having to futz with custom CSS, but in the meantime, that method of applying the CSS will get your Bloggish and Style Contest journal themes put back together pretty well. Thanks, Robin

Yep, took a peace-of-mind piss test to make sure W. hadn't knocked me up, got a nice soothing negative.

More inspection bullshit today. A bit of googling found me a local advocacy group. This may prove necessary.

I want this calendar for 2008 very badly. We'll see how my finances stand at the end of the month. They have a nifty LED menorah too.

GUYS GUYS GUYS I've always been jealous of Bernie and his 'bear' friends so I made myself a bear character in city of heroes after being inspired by this other guy and his called Psioni Cub and it's totally cool.

I think she looks a lot more bear-y than those guys bears. They all just look like big hairy men, they don't even use the teddy bear ears.

Yeah, I post a lot when I'm in a Mood. Deal.
The thing about listening to any of the Twilight books in audio...

Every time someone says "Bella", I follow it up with "...Lugosi's dead".

    Bug or feature?

I'm debating getting a rename token for [info]i_am_an_hero. When I apped him, I didn't think he'd be more than a fringe cracky character, but now he's my fave of all the ones I play and he's made so much progress that having a mean 4chan joke about suicide for a username seems inappropriate. I dunno.

Ah well. Time for Coast to Coast and, I think, bed.

I still don't know what's up with Twilight. This is a real book series - and there's actually more than one book? And people have read it/them? Seriously? I feel so out of touch with this.

Heh, I remember seeing "Breaking Dawn: Coming Soon!" icons and thinking it was for a new album by some popular modern rock band.

Movie Babble & Reaction to Mary Doria Russell’s The Sparrow

    * [info]x_los wrote Eighth Doctor/goosnake!Master. And it’s… actually kind of awesome? If you enjoy crackfic, I highly recommend it.

    * I. Um. I think I want to see Twilight. I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW. But… it’s just… you know… Robert Pattinson is really really cute!

Apparently somewhere inside me there still lurks a twelve year old girl, whose Pretty!Boy!Vampire! alert has just been triggered. I will have to hide my face in shame and sneak into the theater hoping that no one I know will recognize me. Or at least claim that I’m there only to snark. :P

    * I saw the new James Bond this weekend and was disappointed. I’m all for emotional continuity, but it didn’t feel like the movie really went anywhere. Nothing made a big impression, and I was mostly bored. Apparently I’m one of the three human beings on the planet who do not find Daniel Craig attractive, so without a compelling story there just wasn’t much to hold my interest. Casino Royale was so much better. :(

    * I just read this book called The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, about a Jesuit expedition to Alpha Centauri (seriously). It was brilliantly written, but I didn’t love it.

spoilers for The Sparrow and for the Lymond Chronicles (possibly offensive to religious types) )
