01:11 am - Monthly Picspam: SCIENCE!
OKAY, OKAY, LET'S DO THIS THING!

First off, many copious thanks to [info]janegraddell, [info]polygamouse, [info]melannen, and everyone else who submitted all the tons and tons of names and pictures (particularly pictures) that I got this month, without whose help this would've been way later than it already is. Thank you! <3

And with that, we start with Thomas Dolby, because... SCIENCE! (doo-doo-doo-doot!)

He's poetry in motion, and also sexy specs!

HIT ME WITH TECHNOLOGY, TOMMY BABY!

And now that that's out of the way, IT'S TIME FOR HARDCORE SCIENCE ACTION! WITH EXPLOSIONS AND STUFF! And if there's explosions, that can only mean MYTHBUSTERS! YAY!

BUT WHAT IS THIS? WHAT IS THIS I SEE? Is it... can it be... YES! IT IS BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY! :D

He brings me joy.

You know who else brings me joy? CARL SAGAN.

Sometimes I just like to sit and think about Carl Sagan, because the fact that the world can produce someone so awesome makes me happy.

And speaking of happiness, here is Wangari Maathai, environmentalist, political activist, biologist, doctor of veterinary anatomy, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, and all around super awesome person. And she also, I must say, looks damn fine for a woman of 71 years old.

No, really, she was born in 1940, I swear.

Look her up, you won't be disappointed. I just found out about her while gathering pictures for this picspam, and already I'm kind of in love with her a little. *swoons*

Oh, hey, and do you know who else I love? CHIEN-SHIUNG WU.

Chien-Shiung Wu was a nuclear physicist. She helped develop the process for separating uranium into U-235 and U-238 isotopes by gaseous diffusion. She developed and performed experiments to contradict the hypothetical "Law of Conservation of Parity" in elementary particle physics. She would've totally been able to explain to me what those last two sentences actually really and truly mean, and also probably correct me on my grammar! So hot OMG.

Also, she won the Nobel Prize for Physics, she quite literally wrote the book on beta decay (it's still being used as a standard reference!), and she was the first living scientist to have an asteroid named after her. I LOVE HER OMG. I only wish I had more pictures, sigh.

Let's see, let's see, who else do I love? Musician Brian May, who is now also an astrophysicist? Yes!

Actress Danica McKellar, who is now also a mathematician and plus she grew up super sexy? YES!

Actress Hedy Lamarr, who invented Wi-Fi technology before Wi-Fi was ever even invented, much less cool? YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES!

But my goodness, how shall we ever ever top the hotness of Hedy Lamarr? IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE! There is only one man who can do it...

ALBERT. FREAKING. EINSTEIN. Obviously.

Okay, well, maybe there's two men. LADIES, CONTROL YOURSELVES!

Tesla was smoking hot OMG. But do you know who else was smoking hot? Ground-breaking anthropologist Ruth Benedict. Swear to god!

Also, speaking of anthropology, here is Jane Goodall, because Jane Goodall.

And speaking of smoking hot, here is Mae Jemison, because MAE JEMISON OMG. So much love.

Astronauts are so sexy. Here are Julie Payette and Yamazaki Naoko! YAY!

There are more sexy sexy astronauts in this next group of sexy sexy people. SEXY SCIENCE PEOPLE! Can you pick them out? I'LL BET YOU CAN!

WAIT WAIT HOLD ON! Where are all my Curies at? MADAME CURIE WHERE ARE YOU?

Oh, there you are! And you've brought the scientist husband and your scientist daughter and her scientist husband along with you, I see, and also your other daughter who wasn't a scientist but she probably had an interest in science at least and also she was super hot so we'll let it slide. YAY YAY YAY!

OMG OMG so many hot scientists, I'm don't even know where I am anymore, I'm so confused. WHERE IS MICHIO KAKU? Oh, here he is! Yay!

And also he's got Simon Singh with him! More yay!

And Lisa Randall! Even more yay!

And Neil deGrasse Tyson, with his sidekick Pluto (which is not a planet)! Still yet even more yay!

And David Suzuki, who is sometimes naked! Um... yay? YAY!

And also they have brought Lise Meitner, which, yeah, I totally don't even know how that would work, but they are scientists, I'm sure they figured something out! YAY YAY YAY!

And they have also brought all these other people whose names are in their filenames like usual! OMG SO MUCH YAY I CAN'T EVEN STAND IT OMG YAY!

Oh, so, so, so many hot scientists in the world. There were even more in the comments on our poll posts, and I am sorry to have left them out, but I also promised fictional scientists and there so many and now my head is spinning and I don't even know what I'm doing anymore, I think. LET'S HAVE SOME MORE SCIENCE! YES!

...What? WHAT? If Simon counts, then Nick counts, I'm sure he's played something science-y at some point, SO THERE!

And that, AT LAST, is our (very late) picspam for June. Tune in tomorrow (or possibly later today) for your (slightly abbreviated) July poll, and maybe even (possibly) some more parentheses! (Yay!)

Thank you, good night! ♥ ♥ ♥

Nick counts because Danger 50000 Volts is sort of sciencey.

Also, because he's Nick.

Comic Relief 2005, the Spider-Plant Man sketch. IMDB credit as "Scientist". He even wears a *lab coat*, so you know there's Science going on!

And holy shit, I know Lisa Randall! She taught my Waves and Vibrations class!

There was a joke running round my friends that physicists get into rock music and biologists get into punk rock. I shall use Dr Gaffin as a further example :)

Well, technically he wasn't a biologist who got into punk rock -- he was a punk rock singer who got into biology. He started Bad Religion while he was still in high school.

As we have the delectable Simon Singh, I would like to nominate the rest of his science boy band, Uncaged Monkeys http://www.evilburnee.co.uk/2011/05/uncaged-monkeys-at-anvil-basingstoke.html (ok, so not an official boy band, but look at them! Besides, Brian Cox was in D:Ream before astrophysics, ergo boy band)

Lot's more yay! I now find myself with a far, far greater interest in science than ever before in my life.

I'd love a picspam related to my field: hot historical figures. *sigh* A gal can dream. . .

MOAR HOT SCIENCE:

Eslanda Goode Robeson, histological chemist, anthropologist, civil rights activist:

She was married to Paul Robeson, who was not a scientist as far as I know, but was also incredibly smokin' hot:

Katherine Dunham, anthropologist and pioneer of modern dance:

And finally, Fletcher Henderson -- chemist, pianist, bandleader, composer, and pioneer of big band jazz and swing:

I don't know all the names, but there is some serious science sexy over at Periodic Videos on YouTube. Including Martyn Poliakoff, Research Professor of Chemistry at University of Nottingham.

And? The videos are a lot of fun to watch!

SCIENCE!

(Link)
Yay, Muppet Labs! Yay, Dolby! And the Mythbusters! ("Good heavens, Miss Byron, you're beautiful!")

Oh, Carl, I was just reading and thinking about you yesterday. I miss you.

Hedy's pretty hard to top - I see why you went straight to Albert and TESLA!!! (who I still think looks a bit like Ralph Fiennes, or vice versa, in some of those shots).

Mae Jenison, definitely. (I actually found that pic of her as a transporter chief in TNG just the other day.)

This post, and the one just before it, was my first intro to Roxana Moslehi. Thank you!

alas, Mme. Curie, who invented the theory of radioactivity, the treatment of radioactivity, and dying of radioactivity. :(

oh MY Lisa Randall wow. Wow.

Loving Mr. DeGrasse Tyson, and his vest. And Mr. Suzuki, and his... fig leaf? o.O

In the fictional category: what, no Michael Shanks or Ben Browder? (I know, I know, but...)

Other than that, a pretty good assortment - you even got "The Professor", and the inimitable Dr. Banzai, Renaissance man. And Sir Stewart, whose Picard was as much a scholar as an officer (and a gentleman)... but not Mulgrew for Janeway, who was actually in Science before changing tracks? Tsk. ;p

There's two others I thought of as I was going through this, and I'll post them myself as soon as I find the pics and host them.

And here we go!
Where to begin - the past, or the future? There's one fellow to whom it's all the same...

and of course, we can't have Rod Taylor without Guy Pearce.

Next is Teryl Rothery, who played Dr. Janet Frasier for several seasons of SG-1 as well as various other doctors and scientists.

This next lady happens to be animated, but don't hold that against her; here she is, along with her voice actress (who was on Stargate Universe, until...):

Finally, there's this little explorer and rockhound - her roving days (or sols) may be over, but she'll not be forgotten.

Here's another one for your collection, Pui! On the right, you get the combined hotness of Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson. The two on the left aren't scientists. They just play them on TV. *g*
