Someone's getting a little twitchy
creamtea is one of the folks who came up with a Love Potion theory after HBP came out. It's hard to take her seriously, though, when she posts stuff like this: (on the ARGH thread at FA: http://forums.fictionalley.org/park/showthread.php?s=&threadid=120777&perpage=20&highlight=&pagenumber=2)

Ginny's spraying the train compartment like a cat on the prowl!

Harry's just some random boy obscuring her view of the Boy Who Lived. He's never been real to her. That's about the greatest lack of care/disrespect you could ever pay anyone. Even when she's trying to get close to him, she doesn't understand him. Yep, she cares so much she just doesn't get him at all - she only ever views him through the lens of her own needs/preoccupations.

Specific example: the train-ride home in OoTP. Quite clearly Ginny STILL feels that Harry's
quietness is about Cho. And how stupid and uncaring and unconsidering is that? Because it was bad enough that she thought it was 'all about Cho' (which is her own obsession projected onto Harry) in the library. But this 'it's still all about Cho' on the train is AFTER Sirius has actually DIED! She has no excuse for not understanding it. She knew he was down about Sirius before the DoM - she's supposed to have learned that in Teh Holy Chololate Scene. She was at the DoM - she knows Sirius is dead. She even told Luna. At a cognitive level she knows Sirius death must have hit Harry - yet emotionally, she's incapable of grasping it. At the time of his greatest nadir - she's STILL obsessed with viewing it all from the perspective of her own petty obsessions. He's grieving away and she's swishing her arse and trying to scent the compartment up with: 'I chose Dean'? After 'I naver gave up on you' we know that 'I chose Dean' has got something nasty and calculated at the back of it. Harry is flat on the floor and she's still thinking about boyfriends.

There's a whole lot more stuff like this, but I've never done these HTML codes before, and I want to see if they work with this one example before I go further. ;-)

Er ... maybe that's because Cho had just walked by and she and Harry did the awkward "OH SHI -!" thing? Just sayin'.

I'm currently on the rofl-copter and passing over the LOL-cano. It's things like this that make it painfully obvious that these people only ever read the books once (if that) and have somehow distorted all of the canon to suit their half-arsed arguments.

What the heck is she talking about with Ginny thinking everything is about Cho on the ride home? It was Ron who pointed Cho out to Harry because he noticed Cho and Marietta passing by the compartment. Then Hermione supplied that she heard Cho was dating someone else. This was all so JKR could establish that Harry was well over his old crush. Ron then asked who Cho was dating and that is when Ginny let them know it was Michael Corner - her ex. JKR then used Ron to drop an anvil by telling Ginny to choose someone better next time while giving Harry an oddly furtive look. If anyone was pushing for a love connection in that scene it was Ron Weasley. The boy is perceptive.

As for the library scene let's compare and contrast:

"I saw Cho earlier," said Hermione tentatively, "and she looked really miserable too... Have you two had a row again?"

"Wha -- oh yeah, we have," said Harry, seizing gratefully on the excuse. (OOTP, chapter 29)

...

"Are you okay Harry?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," said Harry gruffly. The lump in his throat was painful. He did not understand why an Easter egg should have made him feel like this.

"You seem really down lately," Ginny persisted. "You know, I'm sure if you just talked to Cho..."

"It's not Cho I want to talk to," said Harry brusquely.

"Who is it then?" asked Ginny.

"I..."

He glanced around to make quite sure that nobody was listening; Madam Pince was several shelves away, stamping out a pile of books for a frantic-looking Hannah Abbott.

"I wish I could talk to Sirius," he muttered. "But I know I can't." (OOTP, chapter 29)

"You seem really down lately," Ginny persisted. "You know, I'm sure if you just talked to Cho..."

Somehow, my teen-to-English translation program can't seem to interpret that as anything but "So, just to be clear, you're single now, right Harry?"

lol That makes no sense and it was Ron (and then Hermione) who started talking about it. Is that scene twisted in some editions of the books?

Or maybe all the books are twisted, like they switched the name "Ron" to "Harry". It would explain a lot.

Dear Creamtea,

It's not Ginny who is obsessed, try looking in a mirror once an a while... of course, that means stepping away from the PC (at least you can do this secure in the knowledge that you will be doing the fandom a favour if you do.)

Quite clearly Ginny STILL feels that Harry's quietness is about Cho.

Where is this quite clearly shown? The way I remember it is Cho walks by, Harry avoids eye-contact, discussion of Cho now dating someone else ensues. The end. How is this Ginny thinking Harry's sad about Cho?

Creamtea has never been strong with logic. I see she still has her tendency to CAPITALIZE random words to EXPLAIN away H/G.

I tried to read the rest of the thread...but I just can't. Did any of them ever actually read the books? Take for example this excerpt by Everloony:

Hmm. Ginny almost got Hermione, one of his most beloved friends, killed. She nearly triggered the closing of Hogwarts, his second home, and allowed the student populace to believe that he was the Heir of Slytherin while she knew somewhat better. She tore up his room. She left an extremely dangerous diary floating around in a toilet. Worst of all, she put Harry and all of her classmates' lives at risk just to protect her stupid little secrets. I think this counts as 'not caring'.

Yes, Ginny did all of that. She was most definitely not possessed by the spirit of Tom Riddle. That whole diary thing? Merely a cover-up for the fact that Ginny is a raging psychopath. *facepalm* Are these people for real? Is this an elaborate April fools joke?!

I doubt Ginny is close buddies with Hermione, either. Hermione has these things called independent thought processes and aspirations that give 'ole Gin a headache...Ginny strikes me as the kind of girl who has a ton of female acquaintances, but no actual girlfriends.

What the heck
[info]elainie
2006-12-16 03:01 am UTC (link)
Here's another gem from Lysette: (like shooting fish in a barrel, isn't it?)

The reality of G/H is that it is the ultimate fan squealer dream, namely "If (Fill in the blank with fan Idol of choice) would just see me once, then he would know I am The One, and we would get married in a big wedding, and have a big house..." Fan squealers would rather hang onto the possibility of being "rich" (getting their Idol) then face the reality of always being poor, namely never getting him because he does not and never will know them at all. In reality, even if they do happen to meet their Idol, it will be "Oh, hello," and he has moved on to the next order of business, and can barely remember he said hello to anyone, much less who they were. The "Hello" scene in OotP, where Ginny had been practicing in front of a mirror for likely hours, and Harry dismisses her to get on to business is a perfect example.

Another perfect example would be some "would-be" fashionista trying to meet Ms. Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, and Priestly blows them off like the annoying little object they are. Harry always treats Ginny like an annoying like object until he nearly kills Draco, then Ginny is spouting off just what he wants to hear, even though he knows it isn't right. So he decides to give his groupie the boon of spending the night with him as a reward, so to speak. They might talk about Quidditch, if they had time. Ginny is very like that girl that sent the naked picture of herself in Entourage in the hopes that she could meet the Star. And what does she get for her efforts? Turtle! In G/H, Ginny is the annoying little object to Harry's Rock God, and you know Harry got off on the ego stroking her worshipping him gave him over anything Ginny, herself, brought to the table. If Harry cared at all about Ginny as a person, and not just as an object, there would be far less arguments over "Who is Ginny?" because we would know her personality like we do Ron, Hermione, Luna and Neville's. That is the biggest problem with G/H. We do not know Ginny because even after Harry stuck his tongue down her throat more than once, he still doesn't know anything or care to know anything about Her.

"Ginny, dressed an out in five."

Context, context! Where are you?

Seriously. It's not like Ginny launches into a detailed speech about her, Harry's and everyone else's dating status in that train scene. Cho walks by, Harry's embarassed, that prompts a discussion.

It's so fun to take take things out of context... Of course, if our side wanted to do that, we've got the perfect weapon:

"I love you, Hermione." It sure wasn't Harry who said it.

Harry always treats Ginny like an annoying like object until he nearly kills Draco,

First, what the hell does that supposed to mean? Did you mistype "like" for "little"? Second... they really aren't reading the same books we are, are they?
