OOTP?
Is there any more wank over the Movie? Or is everyone too busy wanking about DH? I thought for sure that there would be a wankfest over the changes made to the story. Namely the Harry/Hermione scenes.

Well, there was only two posts about the movie. The rest was all about what the H/Hr shippers will do id if it ends up OBHWF (which is full of lulz). I'll copy and paste the movie comment here in a minute.

We're not allowed to post f-locked material, are we? Or is that only fandom_wank?

Look down the bottom for the two movie comments. I haven't posted the other stuff, the 'What will you do if OBHWF happens.' That was the most fun.

I could open the post, there was a fair amount of WTFery going on. Just let me screen my mate's comments, as they posted them thinking it was a locked post.

If she does write R/Hr and H/G I think I will join an activist group that makes sure parents know what it is their children are reading. It would be helpful for parents to provide some guidance to some of the negative things in HP (at least in terms of the relationships Rowling presents).

Wait, WHAT?

Is he seriously suggesting an activist group to warn parents about the romantic pairings in a children's book?!?

Christ. There went the last of my faith in humanity.

There is a link to another post of hers down the bottom that suggests she does indeed intend to make sure parents know what evil, shallow, bad, disgusting pairings H/G and R/Hr actually are.

Is this the school teacher harmoanian, who only gave her H/Hr students As? I can't remember...

But just imagine the look on his face when he meets up with the activist group and finds out that they couldn't care less about pairings, they're all about warning the kids that witchcraft is Satanic! He'll be the sane one for once!

The villians in this story are minor background characters, which would not be the case if this indeed were an adventure story. HP is exceptionally derivative, and Rowling has admitted that she has been influenced heavily by other stories.

...

I can only say it again: i want to read the books they are reading, just forcomparison's sake.

The villains are definitely background characters. It's not like they have their hands in every major plot point or are mentioned all that often. Sure there's a little bit of stuff about Harry having to fight some guy, but the meat of the story is who he's gonna be banging from here until death. It's like all those people who don't get Lord of the Rings. Sure they have that little bit about the ring, Mt. Doom, and preventing the end of all things good, but everyone should realize it's all about Legolas/Aragorn.

as for people taking a 'fall" the biggest fall will be of JKR who will go from being a dubiously titled "greatest living author' to a trashy, Sweet Valley Hogwarts High author in the opinions of at least half her fans.

God, I love it. "If you don't write the romance I want then you're a doody head!"

HALF her fans, eh? Odd, I thought Rowling sold millions upon millions of these books around the world. I didn't realize there were quite so many people prepared to sulk that she wrote a fantasy series instead of a Harlequin Romance.

It's possible Rowling knows how to weave a great tale but has no idea how to write a believable, well-written romance.

I freely admit that the shipping aspect is what made me start reading the HP books in the first place

Definitely some folks who need to stick to the Harlequins. True, they wouldn't be able to pat themselves on the back about their elite reading skillz, but at least they wouldn't be "fooled" about the romance.

she is letting the intelligent rational girl allow herself to be treated badly by the guy who despite growing up in a loving environment doesn't know how to treat her properly

Wait. Is this the same Hermione I've been reading? The one who is on Ron's case constantly? The one who can kick his ass magically? The one who tells him off without hesitation? Is this from one of those funny Babelfish translations where you translate something to different language and translate the translation back again?

I love Hermione, but in my opinion Ron wants a girl just like the girl who married dear old Dad - good-hearted and loving but bossy and nagging.

I wasn't originally, but I thought why not. People need some spoiler free HP mockage.
