Yes, Jo is laughing at you.
I guess we should start a post about the (edit) confirmed REAL epilogue going around. SPOILERS and NON-STOP WHINING in the links.

ONTD_trash: Scans in the comments.

spoil_me_dh: Your writing is shit, Jo!

Edit: News sites are talking about the leak now and there's a locked post on spoil_me_dh where the book was scanned showing the dust jacket, colored hard bookcover, copyrights, title and dedications pages. Unless someone decided to fake all that as well as 700+ pages, the leak is real.

Edit^2: A mousy pointed out there is a new lj community: its_a_fake.

Edit^3: There's a plan of mass suicide on JKR's lawn if she doesn't write a Harmoanian ending the book better. (Thanks nekoama!)

Edit^4: A mousy pointed out there's a new picture of the book going around with a certain lj community in the background. Another blow for the FAKE side.

JKR has released an official statement in the diary section on her website.

"JULY 18th

We are almost there! As launch night looms, let's all, please, ignore the misinformation popping up on the web and in the press on the plot of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'd like to ask everyone who calls themselves a Potter fan to help preserve the secrecy of the plot for all those who are looking forward to reading the book at the same time on publication day. In a very short time you will know EVERYTHING!"

Naturally, fans at spoil_me_dh read it and think, "Well, that seals it. It's real!" Which is, I think, I pretty obvious conclusion.

...

But the fans at its_a_fake? Oh, no. The natural conclusion is, apparently, that it's FAKE.

Jesus, what is it with everyone bitching about the kid being "Albus Severus"? I mean, Severus is clearly his middle name-- and plenty of people had ridiculous middle names. Parents only use their kid's full name when they're trying to make a point (which was why Harry mentioned at, after all.)

Ginny refers to A.S. as "Al", I think. Which honestly isn't such a terrible name for a kid, especially when Albus was a well-known and well-respected member of the wizarding community.

I hereby announce that Lily's middle name is "Nymphadora". And James' is "Mundungus".

Well they can't exactly make a statement either way

Yeah they actually can. If it's fake it's fake. "Too damn bad if people like it, because it aint real". I doubt sales of the actual book would plummet because people are attached to the version they read online. The fact that they are hem hawing about it and refusing to say "It's a fake, kids. Wait till Saturday to find out the TRUE story" proves to me it's real.

(Sorry about the number of posts.)

- Comments from the Baltimore Sun book review, in which there is much fapping about spoilers. (The Sun says they received the book from a relative of a staff member, who received their copy early from DeepDiscount.com.)
- Short article (review?) from the Globe and Mail, making references to the storyline of the leaked book. No comments allowed, unfortunately.
- A Brazilian teen bought a UK edition from a library,
takes photos to verify epilogue. Bonus spooge: No Brazilians read English.
- This could get good: Snapefen wank over Sevvie's manner of death. They haven't read the book yet.

Even as a joke, the mass suicide idea has to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Mainly because of this phrase: "-UNLESS- SHE AGREES TO RE-WRITE THE BOOK AND PLEASE US ALL"

Because that's just plain impossible.

Not even if she made a Hermione-clone and stuck her with Harry instead of him with Ginny. Because all that would result in is both sides claiming THEY have the REAL Hermione. Oh god, I can see it now.

"UR HERMIONE IS FAKE HAHA"
"NO YOURS IS U H0R"

And then there would be all the slash fans and the rare pairing fans...

It's probably easier to just fix it to: "-UNLESS- SHE AGREES TO RE-WRITE THE BOOK AND PLEASE US ALL ME"

There we go.

Posted at its_a_fake:

Just some things I came across when I was looking up the comment about Snape's boggart. Mods, numbers?

-JKR think that the thought of Snape in love is a "very horrible idea" and is stunned that someone wonders if Snape might fall in love. We will find out why in book 7. (Source: http://www.accio-quote.org/articles/1999/1099-connectiontransc2.htm)

-Snape has been loved by someone.* (Source: http://www.accio-quote.org/articles/2005/0705-tlc_mugglenet-anelli-3.htm)

-There will be a new DADA teacher in Book 7. Something will stop Snape from teaching DADA in the next book.** (Source: http://www.accio-quote.org/articles/2005/0705-edinburgh-ITVcubreporters.htm)

*Oh yeah? Who?

**But he can become Headmaster? Doesn't seem right to me.

As you can see, the comments here are either A) left unanswered in UglyCarpet!DH or B) contradict what we've learned. Comments?

One thing all wankers appear to have in common is that they read *waaay* too much into everything JKR says in her interviews. Instead of taking the most obvious interpretation: (a) Snape doesn't fall in love because he's loved once and it hurt too much (b) Lily loved Snape as a friend (c) Snape is stopped from teaching DADA because he's appointed Headmaster, they keep searching for some "deeper meaning" that isn't there.

"We now know that it's Ron and Hermione." OMG! She used the present tense! That means it's going to be H/Hr!

"Harry and Hermione are strictly platonic friends!" Platonic! Deep love and friendship! *cue 30-page essays on the symbolism and use of love in Harry Potter, leading to conclusive proof of why platonic = Epic Romance*

And so on and so on.

What these people have yet to realize, apparently, is that Rowling doesn't give these interviews assuming that she's talking to insane obsessed fans. She assumes that she's talking to sane half-way rational people who are capable of drawing meaning from context, and interpreting her answers with some degree of latitude, without looking for hidden clues in every damn semi-colon, and twisting everything she says to support their crackpot theories.

OK. Rant over.

I really thought Harmonians would be okay with this book (well, not the completely batshit ones, maybe). I mean, there's practically no Harry/Ginny until the epilogue and the Ron/Hermione is kept to the background--and loads of Ron being an ass, which they seem to like.

The New York Times review here (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/18/books/18cnd-potter.html?pagewanted=1) is pretty spoilery and matches up very well with the leaked edition.

Here's what I got (quoted from the review):

at least half a dozen characters we have come to know die in these pages, and many others are wounded or tortured.

Voldemort and his followers have infiltrated Hogwarts and the Ministry of Magic, creating havoc and terror in both the Wizard and Muggle worlds alike, and the members of various populations — including elves, goblins and centaurs — are choosing up sides.

One of the plot’s key turning points concerns Harry’s decision whether to continue looking for the Horcruxes — the mission assigned to him by the late Dumbledore — or whether to pursue, instead, three magical objects known as the Hallows, which are said to make their possessor the master of Death.

Harry’s journey will propel him forwards to a final showdown with his archenemy, and also send him backwards into the past, back to the house in Godric’s Hollow where his parents died, to learn about his own family history and the equally mysterious history of Dumbledore’s family.

we are made to see that kindly Dumbledore, sinister Severus Snape and perhaps even awful Muggle cousin Dudley Dursley may be more complicated than they initially seem.

Objects and spells from earlier books — like the invisibility cloak, Polyjuice Potion, Dumbledore’s Pensieve and Sirius’ flying motorcycle — will play important roles in this volume, and characters encountered before like the house elf Dobby and Mr. Ollivander the wandmaker will resurface, too.

I bolded the parts that seemed especially good evidence for the leak being real, including:

- Details of exactly what the Hallows are.
- The mention of Dudley's softer side.
- Ollivander resurfacing.
- Sirius' motorcycle.
- Harry deciding between Horcruxes and Hallows.
- Voldemort and Co. infiltrating the Ministry.
- Elves, goblins, and centaurs choosing sides.

These are really specific points that would have been well nigh impossible to guess, if you wanted to fake the book. Right now I'm thinking it's real.

Of course, the relevant post at its_a_fake, here (http://community.livejournal.com/its_a_fake/36611.html) are insisting that this doesn't prove anything.

Quotes:

"an epilogue that clearly lays out people’s fates"

That isn't in the leaked version. We don't know anything except Scorpius and Albus Severus are going to spend 7 years kicking each other's asses.

I might even say that's a clue to us, honestly. A bit of "wink, wink, nudge, nudge"

This review is somewhat worrying. It does reference things that happen in the Carpet Book, but they're all general enough that they could be something else also.

So everyone seems to think Snape was loved by Lily (in a platonic sense). But how much could she love him if she ditches him the moment he calls her 'Mudblood'? Surely a friendship as strong as theirs would survive one insult?

Dare this person to call any given black friends they might have the 'N' word and see how that one flies.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand we have the groundwork for the spiritual successor to Half Blood Prince the Harmonian way.

This is definitely the wrong week for me to have a physics quiz.

Though I loves me some slash, I've never really seen any in the HP books (except for some slight hints of Remus/Sirius). But all that will change with this book. Consider:

- Dumbledore/Grindelwald (as overt as subtext gets)
- Harry saying, "He's not my type."
- The burgeoning AS/S ship
- All the people who will insist that Victoire is a man's name and refuse to back down when confronted with the truth a la the Blaise-is-a-girl nuts

Boy are we going to hear some thoughts on yaoi.
