Classy!
Hello Harmonians,

the idea behind Project Harmony is that we pull off a full page ad (maybe even more) in a magazine to finally be able to speak up and let JKR know how we feel.

I've done a similar project for another couple before and it got a reaction from producers and the actors. I wasn't in charge of it, but I hope we can all work together to figure this out.

God knows we won't change this horrible ending for Harry and Hermione, but I think it's time we speak up, not only to tell JK how we feel, but also to honor H/Hr and let the world know that we're still out there and we're not going anywhere.

...Yep, it's time for another Harmonian project to tell JKR how they feel! Just like the other great projects... that never really got pulled off.

"Nora", the organiser, also prepared a sample letter.

I wrote a first draft of the letter. It's just a suggestion. Feel free to add or remove anything or write down your own ideas.

This ad is an homage to the characters Harry Potter and Hermione Granger from the "Harry Potter" book series.

First and foremost, we'd like to thank J.K. Rowling for creating these two characters. In spite of the fact that the series ended with other pairings, we are still grateful for all the wonderful moments we got to read between those two. While we definitely saw the 'anvil sized hints' for certain other couples, they didn't capture our hearts. It was the deep bond between Harry and Hermione that did, no matter where it eventually led them. The traits that define their relationship are things that we all value in life: mutual respect, admiration, unconditional love and support, kindness, loyalty..... There are many scenes throughout the books that capture all these things, but one of them stands out to us: in 'Deathly Hallows', Hermione accompanies Harry to his parents' graves. He cries and mentally wishes to have something to put on the graves. Hermione senses it, conjures a wreath and silently holds his hand throughout. It is this scene that sums up why these two characters have so many fans, even though not a word is spoken between them. The understanding and depth to their relationship has yet to be matched by another and it is this love, sexual or not, that we will remember and carry with us from this series.

If all this makes us 'delusional', as stated by a website's member who shall remain unnamed, then we'll proudly accept that term and take comfort in the fact that we never felt the need to trash people in front of the books' author just because their opinions differ from ours.

Last but not least, special thanks to actors Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, who portray Harry and Hermione beautifully in the movies and bring their magic to life brilliantly.

However, there's a problem: as havoc says:

"I think there should be a little more critisism towards book 7 in the letter. I like the ending (the small thank you to Dan and Emma) because it's quite small and I think it should stay that way."

Nora responds:

What do you suggest? I want the letter to be as respectful as possible. It'd be sad if we came off as whiny.

At which I laugh and laugh. Luckily, sarielle has a completely non-whiny addition.

"Many of us were disappointed that in both Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows Harry and Hermione seemed to lose some of their character traits that made them so special, seemingly in order to allow for the final pairings to happen. To be honest, this was rather hurtful; all of a sudden these two characters we so adored became people we felt we hardly knew anymore, all for the sake of two romantic relationships that we felt served no great purpose to the plot. However, we must reiterate that we respect Ms Rowling and her work very much, and acknowledge that just like in life, fiction doesn't always work out the way we want it to."

You know, I really hope they pull this one off. I'd buy that magazine.

I agree that we shall not seem whiny, and that we shall not give Emerson any satisfying. But we have to point out she offended us with her behaviour, and that we are proud to be "delusional".

Of course, it's more accurate with an ellipsis: I agree that we shall not seem whiny... and that we are proud to be "delusional".

There's also the problem of what they're comparing it to.

Buffy/Angel version:

"Thank you so much, Josh Wheldon, and everyone involved for writing Buffy and Angel. We loved it, particularly the tragic romance, even if it couldn't last. You rock!"

Harmionian version:
"Thank's Jo. But you were wrong. Why didn't you write Harmony? Why did you destroy their characters? Your last two books suck! Dan and Emma rock!"

You know, for all the crap the B/A shippers took from people (and I was one of them. We weren't all crazy!), that was a classy ad. :)

B/A shippers were pretty infamous for dodgy fund raising, and their most famous ad took hundreds of dollars from non-B/A fans. People were told the ad was to encourage UPN/WB to allow BtVS/AtS crossover episodes. Needless to say when BtVS/AtS became Buffy/Angel 4-eva, fans were not pleased. So, not so much with the class.

I never checked where they posted the links to raising funds. If that's true, that was pretty sucky. :/

Ah, yeah. That's a fun story to bash those shippers with, but it's also not true.

I don't usually get involved with this kind of crap, but when it comes to accusing fellow fans of fraud (I was part of Save Angel), I'm not going to keep my mouth shut just because certain groups have made a hobby out of slamming other groups.

This is the proof of the ad published by the group spoken of above, which raised funds from many fans (called Angel Independents):

The Bangel shippers had a completely separate ad that several of their groups and boards paid for from their own funds.

I'm sure the coordinators of both groups would be glad to offer a full accounting of funds used.

Dangit, JF ate my response.

Thank you so much for clarifying this! Like I said, I was a Bangel shipper and remember the ads but not anything else much beyond seeing the scans of them when they appeared.

I dunno what this mouses deal is but decided to give he/she the benefit of the doubt until I saw other posts apparently made by it and meant to come back and say that it appeared to be grudge-wanking. After all this time, WHY!? Why claim crap like this?

Anyway, thanks again for clarifying. Now, if this comes up again, I have a post to point them too.

You're welcome. Like I said, I don't usually get involved with ship war nonsense, but I was here looking for Harry Potter drama (where is all the drama?) and I saw this. Flaming is one thing, accusing someone of a crime is something else.

As a part of Save Angel, I was blessed to work with a lot of different people from a lot of different groups within the fandom, and I can tell you, these are all perfectly nice, sane, honest folks. Unfortunately, that's not everyone in fandom. Why they continue these ridiculous grudge fights after all this time? I haven't the slightest clue.

So true. Which was sort of why I didn't call bullshit straight away because...why just randomnely charge in with this accusation? Oh, well. I forgot how nasty this fandom could be.

Nice to hear working on the campaign was a great experience. :)

I think I may have even contributed to SaveAngel. But the "implicit promise" B/Aers insisting that Buffy would show up -- long after the script had been leaked and everyone and their brother at Mutant Enemy had said she wasn't showing up, get over it and move on already-- cracked my shit up.

Uhm, that one mentioned that thanked Joss for the B/A pairing although it fell apart and blah blah blah?

The B/A Warriors made(make?) the resolution of their ship's 4evah!ness an ongoing cause with multiple campaigns, all demanding that Joss fulfill his "implied promise." (Whatever the hell that's supposed to mean.)

They were posted in the Hollywood Reporter or Variety if I recall correctly. Though I could be confusing those with the Charisma Carpenter ads, since they came out at around the same time.

I'm pretty sure you're right about the Hollywood Reporter. I vaguely remember the ads being published and something about the wank over the thank you Boreanaz ad being turned into a B/A Twu Wuv 4 eva! ad.

Uh, yeah. Not so much. They were two completely separate ads. Take a look up thread, where someone has linked to both.

There were two DB ads I believe. One may have had B/A leanings, but the other was put together with the help of many forums, including Stranger Things and was a nutural ad focusing on just the actor. :)

From the anon who mentioned teh CC ads. :)
