Okay, so as most of you likely know, JKR wrote a little book of fairy tales called "The Tales of Beedle The Bard." It's handwritten, there are only seven copies in existence, and Amazon.com bought one at auction for roughly four million American dollars.

They've put photos and reviews up on their site, but the real joy is in the public discussions at the foot of the page. Here's a comma-ridden taste from a thread entitled 'PATHETIC'.

Clearly, Mr. Chapman, had you read the books, you'd know, that no one, was actually, turned into a toadstool. Perhaps, if you'd referred to Mr. Draco Malfoy's transfigurement into a weasel, then, your snide words, might have held more credence. Enjoy your bitterness.

With 60 threads and counting, it's going to be good and it's going to last forever.

That... has to be the most ass-kissing "review" I've ever seen.

Pretty nice of them to put up summaries of the tales for the "common folk" to read, though. And my hands are aching at the very thought of handwriting and illustrating seven of those things.

The discussion threads are brightening my morning. Did you know Rowling's coming was predicted by Nostradamus? I feel so educated!

I like the bit about I don't think there are too many that are trying to escape *completely* into the world of Hogwarts... Somebody hasn't met the Snapewives.

Wasn't that more about Snape escaping into real-life?

I'll bet he wants to escape somewhere by now. Those women must be driving him crazy.

I feel like pointing out that its US$4 million that's going to a charity. Yeah, okay, so maybe Amazon wouldn't have shelled out that much for a handwritten book by someone less famous than JKR (if they shelled out at all), but its not like she's pocketing the dough.

Yeah, I knew that. I didn't think I was being snide about it above. Was I?

Sorry! I didn't mean you. I meant the retard from the 'Pathetic' thread. My phrasing was bad :P

Oooh, I was looking at that last night and thinking, "if it's bigger in the morning I'll post it."

What I want to know, is on the title page it says 'translated from the original -unreadable-.' What the heck is that last word?

Didn't DH say the Tales were originally in some old language hardly anyone could read in modern times? Maybe that's what it is?

I'm LOLing at the thread titles "WITCH JOWLING" and "JK Rowling is the ANTICHRIST" alone. *flashes Jo's boobies at them*

I totally thought it was the rabid Amazon commenters that said "JOWLING".

I'm not sure what that says for my faith in humanity.

Are there any sentences that have shocked the world's truths?

Yes. This sentence, in fact, likes to use jumper cables.

Well, that was enlightening. Lots of whining about being pissed off that all they get are reviews of a book they can't read...of course, I have only perused one thread.

"The press has gone to her head for sure. It's ridiculous. She should be considering the reality of the fans being the only reason why she can pull this sort of crap. Cripes."

Yikes. It's called charity. Try it some time. Selfish...whining...ugh.

Is it wrong that my first thought was 'They could have used nicer moonstones on the cover'? Maybe it's just the picture, but they don't seem to have much fire in them.

C. Benware says:"On a side note, that book would probably not have netted nearly as much for the charity had it gone the regular publishing route! I wouldn't have bought it...and it certainly wasn't the type of bedtime stories I'd want to read to my kids. I love the Harry Potter books enough to have a books study site running for the past 2 years, so no, I'm not a hater. I think that this was brilliantly marketed and the noble intentions strikes a chord with me.

In short...GET OVER YOURSELF...IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT YOU.
"

I just keep picturing JKR standing on a balcony ala Eva PerĂ³n, adressing the HP masses, and yelling: "GET OVER YOURSELF...IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT YOU!" And then all of HP fen hiss as one, recoiling in horror and OUTRAGE!

Friends, I hate to admit it -- but, I'm really just playing devil's advocate in this forum for the humor.

Is that the pretentious-up-the-arse way of saying "I did it for the LULZ?"

And can we have a separate law about calling people you don't know "friends"? I expect him to call me a Roman and a countryman next.

You know, I'm just sort of happy that the book was bought by an entity that would share parts of it. I mean, I'm sure Amazon hopes to make money off from bringing people to their site but I'm just happy that they are putting up the reviews.

But it was a ferret. Totally different Mustelidae.

LOL at someone thinking that Dan, Rupert or Emma got a copy. I thought I read 'people who have been with Harry since the beginning'.
