Even Portkey Eats Its Own
There's a bit of an implosion going on over at Portkey. Someone named jms granger (no, not John Granger, this one's supposedly from England) has started a thread at Portkey called Sick of the Imperius and Polyjuice?, and this is what he had to say: jms granger: I've been reading these posts for a couple months now, and at first i was quite hopeful that Harry and Hermione would end up together. Unfortunately, the desperation in which most people have gone to to try and find a way around the horror of HBP has taken nearly all my zeal away from me. I am desperate in the hope that other people feel like me, because either im stupid, or everyone else is.
Ginny is a Polyjuice/metamagus imposter - This is a really, really bad idea. especially when people say its Bellatrix (which it is alot of the time). The whole thing is based on the idea that Voldemort sent Bellatrix there to mess up Harrys love life and to make out with him. I mean how can you people actually think that, i know HBP was horrendous but how bad do you think book 7 is going to be?
Book 6 was a dream slash not real slash part real slash part not real slash my freaking wrists! So we paid ten quid on something that wasn't real?
Hermione slipped Harry love potions - If you could possibly believe this you've read too much fanfiction and forgot who Hermione actually is.
Arnold being responsible - No. simple as that. no.
I could go on and on and on, pretty much every theory on this sounds like a really unfunny sarcastic joke to me, but i know its not... We have the whole series to give us hope, i for one dont need useless theories to convince myself that what they have is real love, that they will end up together, that the others are just a distraction before they realize their true feelings. And if you need a theory, please oh please dont make it rubbish, it makes us sound 'dillusional'! And with that, all hell breaks loose. Bitching and sniping and accusations of censorship ahoy! This stuff doesn't need my help, so without editorial comment: brown: The theorizing was cathartic. It helped us get past our shock and hurt and got our engines revvin! I'm sorry if you feel it's pointless or useless. It's great that you either enjoyed the book for what it was or are not interested in looking for more. I don't think it's a good idea to look down upon any of those (like me) who spent time and energy putting theories together.
AdamantEve: We always find ourselves in this predicament. When someone happens to say that they don't agree, it suddenly seems to become very emotional... I won't deny my hate. It's liberating. But to say that the theories surrounding Ginny isn't fueled by hate... well, I don't know... that sounds like something a Mary Sue would say.
Moonstruck: If you don't think it's vaild, then stop bashing them. If you want to civilly debate them, then go and prove it without saying that it's fueled by a hate for Ginny or it's demonizing her. There are a lot of ways of getting your point across without smearing the people involved.
AdamantEve: Bashing? Smearing? This is the reason why those of us who don't feel particularly convinced of the theories have kept quiet until this thread.
House_Elf_44: This "embarrassing" theory is the one that best accounts for lots of loose ends... I'd say JKR has more of a sense of humor than fans who are easily embarrassed by theorists trying to figure out her clues. She's having great fun with the stuff she's writing, so why shouldn't we, too? "Over the top nonsense theories" is inflammatory, as is "please don't make it rubbish". I wish you'd tell us why they don't work or hold up instead. That would be helpful instead of insulting.
Lissy: The loathing might cut back a bit, if whenever anyone did post anything the slightest bit not perfectly positive about "Practically Perfect in Every Way" Ginny, all the Squealers did not jump on the offender like they just threw mud at the Pope or something.
AdamantEve: You mean like how people converge against the annoying little member who doesn't agree with certain theories for reasons she thinks is valid and others do not? Lol. (I'm going to get jumped for this.) ... Boy, did I get talked down to, there. Why don't you just make me stand in the corner and think about what I've said?
Hdawne: She's a spoiled rotten little bint. She has motivation and access to things to help her get Harry. No one seems to think she can do no wrong....and for her character who has been frankly in the background for five books to suddenly be Super!Ginny in one book? Sorry, but that's pants! I cannot take HBP at face value, sorry. [This has nothing to do with the arguing, but I couldn't not quote "Sorry, but that's pants." Carry on!]
Scout: I am feeling a little depressed. I have read this whole thread, have even offered my opinion. It might not be the most brilliant of opinions, but it's mine and I put it out there, only to feel like I've been dismissed and run over by a semi while I wasn't looking.
Oh well, I guess I'll keep reading the threads, but from now on I'll just keep my mouth closed.
cookiemonster: I guess the reason that many H/Hr shippers attach on to the Evil-Ginny or LovePotioning!Ginny theories is due to the fact that the Weasleys don't have anyone evil in the family. And no Percy doesn't count... I guess we like all the drama it could create. The only Weasley girl is a traitor. Classic.
PS: I have always thought that the the significance of Ginny being the seventh daughter, is being connected to the fact that in creating the world, god rested on the seventh day. And I have to say, Ginny allowed him to rest. Not bad! But now things shift into overdrive, as catwork brings up the omnious chill of censorship (dun duh duuuhhhh!), and suggests that maybe "monitoring" certain posters is not a bad idea: catwork: This is a H/Hr site. This should be a safe place to vent and yes come up with ideas that may be seen by some as crazy or out there... I hope that this thread does not discourage free thought. If anyone should be monitored it should be those who discourage free thinking on this site...
Then to add that within our own site, like what I've seen on this thread, we have people crapping in their own sandbox which I think in pathetic. No wonder we are easy targets.
House_Elf_44: The point of this thread was to discourage desperate and embarrassing rubbish theories. Maybe it's time for a thread to debate whether H/G was real or induced, just hormones, or something else. And after having been absent up until this point, the original poster returns, and the thread goes kerblooey: jms granger: House Elf 44- you said 'The point of this thread was to discourage desperate and embarassing rubbish theories'... really? you started this thread to do that? nope. I started it and it sure as hell wasnt for that reason. Sorry for the annoyed tone, but i dont like words being put in my mouth. As i plainly said at the beggining, if you care to reread, then you will see the point was to see if im the only person out there who feels this way.
Catwork - So you believe in censoring when people dont agree with your beliefs or say things you dont like? heck (i know im over using the word but i just like typing it today), if that really is your stance then why the hell are you rooting H/Hr? its a bit of a DE opinion, in my (and the free worlds) humble opinion.
catwork: You totally misunderstand my post. I do not believe in censoring at all contrary to that. You in your starting of this thread laid the ground work for lack of free thinking which IMO is censoring. You may have your opinion absolutely but you criticized others for theirs. Read your post from the beginning.
So I will be very clear. I do not in anyway feel we should censor opinions. Is that clear for you jmsgranger?
I think I do not have to answer why I love and believe in H/Hr.
jms granger: the idea that you could type such a disturbingly contradictory idea is beyond me. You call for freedom of speech for people who think like you. InFamous people have done that for the whole of the 20th century and look how history remembers them, as villains. Freedom of speech goes both ways...
I hope to god i have misjudged your words somehow, that you were cranky and had a rant like we all do over something small, i hope this is the case but dont believe it.
brown: I think the part that I find the most amusing is your "annoyed tone" because you don't like people putting words into your mouth, and yet, you had absolutely no problem misquoting (and putting false statements) in the theories that you highlighted and bashed. I suppose only "you" are able to put "words in other people's mouths" without redress?
What a happy thread you're creating! I have to wonder, do these theories frighten you in some way? If you prefer not to look past the mundane, then bully for you! Why gather followers to cast stones along with you?
From the start of your original post you were disrespectful, mocking and condescending to your other shipmates who created these theories. How is that in any way okay? Still going on. I'm not sure they'll even survive till the next HP book, at the rate they're tearing each other to pieces.
