Even Portkey Eats Its Own
There's a bit of an implosion going on over at Portkey.

Someone named jms granger (no, not John Granger, this one's supposedly from England) has started a thread at Portkey called Sick of the Imperius and Polyjuice?, and this is what he had to say:
jms granger: I've been reading these posts for a couple months now, and at first i was quite hopeful that Harry and Hermione would end up together. Unfortunately, the desperation in which most people have gone to to try and find a way around the horror of HBP has taken nearly all my zeal away from me. I am desperate in the hope that other people feel like me, because either im stupid, or everyone else is.

Ginny is a Polyjuice/metamagus imposter - This is a really, really bad idea. especially when people say its Bellatrix (which it is alot of the time). The whole thing is based on the idea that Voldemort sent Bellatrix there to mess up Harrys love life and to make out with him. I mean how can you people actually think that, i know HBP was horrendous but how bad do you think book 7 is going to be?

Book 6 was a dream slash not real slash part real slash part not real slash my freaking wrists! So we paid ten quid on something that wasn't real?

Hermione slipped Harry love potions - If you could possibly believe this you've read too much fanfiction and forgot who Hermione actually is.

Arnold being responsible - No. simple as that. no.

I could go on and on and on, pretty much every theory on this sounds like a really unfunny sarcastic joke to me, but i know its not... We have the whole series to give us hope, i for one dont need useless theories to convince myself that what they have is real love, that they will end up together, that the others are just a distraction before they realize their true feelings. And if you need a theory, please oh please dont make it rubbish, it makes us sound 'dillusional'!

And with that, all hell breaks loose. Bitching and sniping and accusations of censorship ahoy!

This stuff doesn't need my help, so without editorial comment:
brown: The theorizing was cathartic. It helped us get past our shock and hurt and got our engines revvin! I'm sorry if you feel it's pointless or useless. It's great that you either enjoyed the book for what it was or are not interested in looking for more. I don't think it's a good idea to look down upon any of those (like me) who spent time and energy putting theories together.

AdamantEve: We always find ourselves in this predicament. When someone happens to say that they don't agree, it suddenly seems to become very emotional... I won't deny my hate. It's liberating. But to say that the theories surrounding Ginny isn't fueled by hate... well, I don't know... that sounds like something a Mary Sue would say.

Moonstruck: If you don't think it's vaild, then stop bashing them. If you want to civilly debate them, then go and prove it without saying that it's fueled by a hate for Ginny or it's demonizing her. There are a lot of ways of getting your point across without smearing the people involved.

AdamantEve: Bashing? Smearing? This is the reason why those of us who don't feel particularly convinced of the theories have kept quiet until this thread.

House_Elf_44: This "embarrassing" theory is the one that best accounts for lots of loose ends... I'd say JKR has more of a sense of humor than fans who are easily embarrassed by theorists trying to figure out her clues. She's having great fun with the stuff she's writing, so why shouldn't we, too? "Over the top nonsense theories" is inflammatory, as is "please don't make it rubbish". I wish you'd tell us why they don't work or hold up instead. That would be helpful instead of insulting.

Lissy: The loathing might cut back a bit, if whenever anyone did post anything the slightest bit not perfectly positive about "Practically Perfect in Every Way" Ginny, all the Squealers did not jump on the offender like they just threw mud at the Pope or something.

AdamantEve: You mean like how people converge against the annoying little member who doesn't agree with certain theories for reasons she thinks is valid and others do not? Lol. (I'm going to get jumped for this.) ... Boy, did I get talked down to, there. Why don't you just make me stand in the corner and think about what I've said?

Hdawne: She's a spoiled rotten little bint. She has motivation and access to things to help her get Harry. No one seems to think she can do no wrong....and for her character who has been frankly in the background for five books to suddenly be Super!Ginny in one book? Sorry, but that's pants! I cannot take HBP at face value, sorry. [This has nothing to do with the arguing, but I couldn't not quote "Sorry, but that's pants." Carry on!]

Scout: I am feeling a little depressed. I have read this whole thread, have even offered my opinion. It might not be the most brilliant of opinions, but it's mine and I put it out there, only to feel like I've been dismissed and run over by a semi while I wasn't looking.

Oh well, I guess I'll keep reading the threads, but from now on I'll just keep my mouth closed.

cookiemonster: I guess the reason that many H/Hr shippers attach on to the Evil-Ginny or LovePotioning!Ginny theories is due to the fact that the Weasleys don't have anyone evil in the family. And no Percy doesn't count... I guess we like all the drama it could create. The only Weasley girl is a traitor. Classic.

PS: I have always thought that the the significance of Ginny being the seventh daughter, is being connected to the fact that in creating the world, god rested on the seventh day. And I have to say, Ginny allowed him to rest.

Not bad! But now things shift into overdrive, as catwork brings up the omnious chill of censorship (dun duh duuuhhhh!), and suggests that maybe "monitoring" certain posters is not a bad idea:
catwork: This is a H/Hr site. This should be a safe place to vent and yes come up with ideas that may be seen by some as crazy or out there...
I hope that this thread does not discourage free thought.
If anyone should be monitored it should be those who discourage free thinking on this site...

Then to add that within our own site, like what I've seen on this thread, we have people crapping in their own sandbox which I think in pathetic. No wonder we are easy targets.

House_Elf_44: The point of this thread was to discourage desperate and embarrassing rubbish theories. Maybe it's time for a thread to debate whether H/G was real or induced, just hormones, or something else.

And after having been absent up until this point, the original poster returns, and the thread goes kerblooey:
jms granger: House Elf 44- you said 'The point of this thread was to discourage desperate and embarassing rubbish theories'... really? you started this thread to do that? nope. I started it and it sure as hell wasnt for that reason. Sorry for the annoyed tone, but i dont like words being put in my mouth. As i plainly said at the beggining, if you care to reread, then you will see the point was to see if im the only person out there who feels this way.

Catwork - So you believe in censoring when people dont agree with your beliefs or say things you dont like? heck (i know im over using the word but i just like typing it today), if that really is your stance then why the hell are you rooting H/Hr? its a bit of a DE opinion, in my (and the free worlds) humble opinion.

catwork: You totally misunderstand my post. I do not believe in censoring at all contrary to that. You in your starting of this thread laid the ground work for lack of free thinking which IMO is censoring. You may have your opinion absolutely but you criticized others for theirs. Read your post from the beginning.

So I will be very clear. I do not in anyway feel we should censor opinions.
Is that clear for you jmsgranger?

I think I do not have to answer why I love and believe in H/Hr.

jms granger: the idea that you could type such a disturbingly contradictory idea is beyond me. You call for freedom of speech for people who think like you. InFamous people have done that for the whole of the 20th century and look how history remembers them, as villains. Freedom of speech goes both ways...

I hope to god i have misjudged your words somehow, that you were cranky and had a rant like we all do over something small, i hope this is the case but dont believe it.

brown: I think the part that I find the most amusing is your "annoyed tone" because you don't like people putting words into your mouth, and yet, you had absolutely no problem misquoting (and putting false statements) in the theories that you highlighted and bashed. I suppose only "you" are able to put "words in other people's mouths" without redress?

What a happy thread you're creating! I have to wonder, do these theories frighten you in some way?
If you prefer not to look past the mundane, then bully for you! Why gather followers to cast stones along with you?

From the start of your original post you were disrespectful, mocking and condescending to your other shipmates who created these theories. How is that in any way okay?

Still going on. I'm not sure they'll even survive till the next HP book, at the rate they're tearing each other to pieces.

Only a Mary Sue would say that the cracktastic theories that the Harmoanians are willing to defend to the death are fueled by hate? I'm confused.

This made me giggle. A lot.

Oh! So you would all still think she's EBIL even if she weren't snogging Harry? Just because it's fun?

You know, I read a very interesting article after GoF was released about how JKR's biggest problem is she doesn't leave any blurry grey area between good and evil. (The article was bringing this up to point out that with Mad Eye, this changed a bit.) While there are definitely characters who are grey, now, I don't think the Weasleys ever were or ever will be. They are part of the pure white cast of characters. And coming up with crap theories to explain why your ship is still going to sail, but claiming it's because you really think a Weasley has to be evil, doesn't really work. At all.

Arnold being responsible - No. simple as that. no.

What do you mean!? It's obvious that Arnold=Mokona, and thus responsible for everything ever. And Ginny=Hikaru, then, and Hermione=Umi, so Luna=Fuu. This shouldn't be so easy...

ZOMGOPRESHION! *makes heaps of popcorn and settles in to watch*

I, for one, love Percy. Perhaps not as much as the rest of the Weasleys... but I think he's misguided and too stubborn for his own good rather than evil.

The ironic thing about this is that up until she mentioned Ginny's name, I thought she was refering to Hermione!

What about the Granger...they don't have anyone evil, as far as I know.

OMG!! Hermione befriended Harry to betrayed him by bring him to the Dark Lord! She'll pretend not knowing the answer to a problem, then she'll figure it out and will tell the answer to Harry.
Harry will think she's intelligent while in reality Voldemort told her.
Anyway, Harry will follow Hermione's advice and he will finish dead by the hand of Voldemort! Then Hermione will marry her true love: Voldemort!
The fact that she a muggle born will be blame on the 'pretending part' of the plan!

JMS? As in Babylon 5?

A while ago I tried to figure out if HP and B5 could be crossed-over without the use of time-travel. So I figure that Voldemort, a week or two before he goes after the Potters, casts a "Summon Evil" type spell thats sets up a becon meant to attract creatures that would be willing to help him... and the Shadows respond. They're fascinated by magic, because they've never seen or even heard of anything like it anywhere else in the galaxy, and are especially intrigued that there's a magic war going on, given how they think war is the best means for furthering the evolution of sentient beings.

When Voldemort goes and gets himself killed, the Shadows do some stuff for Lucius that make him look as powerful, or even more powerufl, than Voldemort. With Lucius as the new Dark Lord, the war doesn't collapse, and the Shadows carefully nurture it, keeping it at a lower level of intensity since the wizarding population is small. To do this, they help Fudge's carreer, and he catapults up to Minister of Magic years before he does in cannon.

Meanwhile, with the Shadows distracted by the shineness of magic, the Vorlons come and start adding telepath genes to the human population (and the Vorlons don't notice the Shadows either). These genes don't mix well with the magic genes which create wizards and witches, almost always leading to stillbirth. In those very few instances where the baby survives, however, the magic genes actually give an enourmous boost to the telepathy, so what would normally be a P1 becomes a P12, or greater. And Hermione's parent's just happened to be some of the humans that the Vorlons messed with...

Hermione's parents figure out she's a powerful telepath at an early age, and then freak out, because they're sure that if it becomes know that she's an honest-to-goodness telepath that some government will kidnap her to do experiements on her. So they impress on her the need to keep her power secret. This fear of discovery leads to Hermione becoming rather timid, rather than bossy. When they get the Hogwarts letter, they're immensly relieved, since they figure that her telepathy is manifestation of her magical powers. However, after being paranoid for so many years, they check things out before actually trusting that things will be better, so they go to Flourish and Blotts to look up telepathy, and discover that pure telepathy, as opposed to Legimancy, doesn't exist in the wizarding world, so Hermione still has to keep her secret, and Hermione's classmates wonder why she always wears gloves...

Couldn't get it any further than that, though.

I have always thought that the the significance of Ginny being the seventh daughter, is being connected to the fact that in creating the world, god rested on the seventh day. And I have to say, Ginny allowed him to rest.

As the seventh and last child of my family, I am both offended and amused by this comment.

I need to go find a purely platonic romance to wreck havoc on.

WTF is the Arnold theory? I can't imagine what a Pygmy Puff could have to do with the OMGplatonictoastedlove between Harry and Hermione, so I shall just assume that it has something to do with Gary Coleman's character on Diff'rnt Strokes. Which probably makes just as much sense as the real theory anyway.
