"Besides, if HP Cornfield REALLY hate you, then you must be doing something right"

Thanks to sheep who first found a lot of these posts. It's the semi-regular Lysette/Lissy report! As an aside, she's discovered HP_Cornfield. But don't worry about hurt feelings. She's boasting about it to the "Can't Stand Teh Holy Defenderzz' thread. "Besides, if HP Cornfield REALLY hate you, then you must be doing something right".

Probably the most outrageous comparison this time around. R/Hr shippers bashing H/Hr shippers are like Fred Phelps at a soldier's funeral.

Repeatedly coming in to defend Teh Holy Defenderzz on a Can't Stand Teh Holy Defenderzz Thread is OFF TOPIC, but I guess they figure they can't "Save" the Unwashed Heathen Disgruntled Fans if they don't force their way on Disgruntled Threads because it is not like the Unwashed Heathen will come on their threads. Can't convert them if they can't force them to see the error of their ways. They are rather like those idiots from Kansas that go around protesting Gays at the funerals of Service Men who were killed in Iraq. What one has to do with the other I do not know, aside from they get on the News for it. They and their message are UNWANTED and totally inappropriate. One Father sued them because they disrupted his son's funeral and won, although last I heard, the Church involved is refusing to pay the damages. Figures.

Dumbledore is like Churchill, because Churchill set up the Lusitania sinking.

Actually, in the Second Task, Dumbledore was testing his little would be "Chosen One" to see if Harry would put the lives of others before his own. Of the four, one was Harry's BFF Ron, then there was Harry's other best friend -- Hermione, and then there was the girl Harry was crushing on -- Cho. The last was Fleur's little sister, and that was to see if Harry would even put a stranger's life before his own. Harry passed with flying colors. Now would Dumbledore have let one of them drown to hammer home his point with Harry, absolutely. But I see Dumbledore as being Rowling's Churchill, even if Rowling didn't mean to do that -- she did.

Churchill was feared by the German High Command in WW II because back in WW I Churchill proved he would sacrifice ANYTHING, if it meant winning, when he sacrificed the RMS Lusitania in a bid to force the U.S. into the war. Churchill ordered that NO ONE was to inform the Captain of the Lusitania that there was a U-Boot sitting just outside the Harbor, and had been there for about a week. All it took was one torpedo, and Lucy went down in 21 minutes just like expected. The British Navy had just lost two cruisers with the very same bulkhead design recently, and they had gone down in 21 minutes -- each. That Lucy did the same was no surprise to anyone in the know, and Churchill was. It takes a special kind of cold blooded "person" to accept that kind of Collateral Damage, and Churchill was one and Dumbledore was even doing it from beyond the grave.

Voldemort might have been the monster Dumbledore helped to create, but he was an honest monster, while Dumbledore would hand you a Lemon Drop while coolly planning to have you murdered -- for The Greater Good, of course, at the same time. First Dumbledore "allowed" Voldemort, and then created a Harry to fight him. The ones who died along the way were the Collateral Damage, and well does the term "Grape Koolaid" mean anything to you? Dumbledore wanted to play God. So what on how many bodies it took to get there.

"When are you going to Get IT! They are just NUMBERS! Numbers!"

R/Hr is like 'Tap This' in Ugly Betty

What is your opinion on 'How to charm witches?' in relation to R/Hr?

It is like "Tap This" in Ugly Betty, namely you keep "insulting" women until you find one stupid enough to fall for it al la Amanda on Ugly Betty. It goes under the theory that Men are naturally He-Men superior to women, and all you have to do is demonstrate that superiority, and women will fall all over themselves to get to the "Superior" He-Man. Actually it is, as Hilda explained to Betty, to give the dorky guys (THE RONALD) the courage to actually go up to a girl and try to talk to her. It just proves what I always supected, that The Ronald is a DORK, and Hermione is convinced that The Ronald is her last shot at getting any guy. They have known each other for how long and still have to resort to a "Tap This?"

To paraphase Bridget Jones, "If I can't make it with you, Jones (See Ronald or Hermione), I can't make it with anyone." Sad, but there you go. Talk about BOTTOM of the food chain.

Lily is a Hawt Girl, Snape is a Chunky Girl.

Lily is like the Hawt Girl who goes to a Bar with a chunkie friend because well, you know that the Hawt Girl is going to go home that night with a Hawt Guy, while the chunky girl is going to go home alone. I mean, it is not like you would go to a bar with a girl/guy who was better looking than you, would you? Then they become competition. You want to go with someone who makes you look better standing next to them because you look better than them. That was how Lily was with Sev, he was a stepping stone to better things. As soon as he had served his purpose, he got dumped like that chunky girl at the bar. Lily landed the Rich, Cute Boy she wanted, and dumped Sev for being a TOTAL Embarrassment. I'm amazed she bothered to stay friends with a "loser" like Sev as long as she did.

Sev may have imagined that he and Lily were friends -- but they weren't. Sev was a means to an end, nothing more. Would you say that Lily is a User? I would.

Gin-bot the jealous mistress

Given the FACT that Harry treats Gin-Bot like his mistress and nothing more, you can see why Gin-Bot would be worried about every prettier girl that comes along. Obviously Gin-Bot views Hermione as UGLY because otherwise she would not like Harry and Hermione spending time in that tent alone together for so long. What if they weren't just sleeping? I mean an eleven year old girl is a threat, so Hermione still has the right plumbing and Harry still cannot be trusted with even an eleven year old girl...

Rowling's career has been ruined by not getting hit by a car.

But Margaret Mitchell was hit by a car and killed while crossing the street on her way to a movie theater, so it is not like she had to worry that ten years later she was going to be this sad woman who looks like someone who used to be famous for awhile. She died right after GWTW the movie came out. There was never a down side. Rowling is at the end of Harry Potter, and given HBP and DH, there is a real possibility that nothing she does from now on is ever going to be nearly as popular. Can you say Cabbage Patch Kids? I knew you could. So Rowling needs to milk her Celebrity for everything she can get for as long as she can, you know, like one those sort of celebrities that NEED to be on the cover of all the Tabloids every week. I mean, it is either that or slide back into being just a civilian again. Rowling does complain that when she takes the test for House Placement, she gets stuck in Hufflepuff. The end of the series was just not that great, so it is not like she can be the guy in Bridget Jones who wrote ONE hit song in the Nineties, and it was enough to keep him going for the rest of the Decade. I expect more strange and weird statements from Rowling as the date DH came out becomes farther and farther in the past.

Now, as it happens, Margarett Mitchell died in 1949, ten years after the movie of 'Gone With the Wind' came out. Thanks to puipui for looking this up.

The Weasleys: Straight Out of a Lifetime Movie.

There was a movie on Lifetime last night called Junebug which PEGS the Weasley Clan/Collective almost perfectly, given that there were only four in the actual family. The Mother is just like Molly down to being a mean nag who looks down on everyone starting with her own husband, and it is not like she is "all that and a bag of chips" to start. She even has red hair and is Large. The Dad is like Arthur down to a workshop in the basement rather than a shed out back that he spends his time hiding/working in. The oldest son, George, is like Bill, and he comes home after three years with a new wife who owns her own Art Gallery, her Dad was a diplomat so she has lived all over the world and the nicest thing Mom can think of to say about her is that "she has beautiful hands." She's the Fleur. This is after the wife had even tried to help the younger son with a school paper. (He is supposed to be working on a GED, since he dropped out of High School after getting a girl, Ashley, pregnant, and getting stuck marrying her.) The younger son, Johnny, spends his time being all Emo and Misunderstood because he thinks he is STILL a Teen, even if he is out of school and MARRIED. He and his wife, Ashley, live with Mom. Johnny is the worst of The Ronald and Emo!Harry, both. Ashley is the slightly older Gin-Bot, even being "as large as a house" because she is not just pregnant, but about to deliver because that is what Wombs do -- make babies.

Anyhow, at the end of the movie, George has packed up the wife, and they're heading back to Civilization. He can't wait to get out of there. If the Weasley's lived in the Bible Belt, they would be George's family, only George's family are always quizzing people about if Jesus is their "personal saviour" and what not, rather than "Dumbledore is always right!" Right or wrong.

I was watching Junebug, and it was like watching "Teh Weasley Show." I hated their Mom as much as I do Molly, felt sorry for the Dad, who usually didn't talk much around Mom because she would just yell at him that nobody wanted to hear what he had to say, anyway, if he did give an opinion. Just like Molly and Arthur. When Ashley is in the Delivery Room, Johnny starts lighting up a ciggie, so the doctors kick him out. When George tries to tell Johnny that Ashley lost her baby, Johnny is under his car working on it. Johnny gets up and throws a wrench at his brother, and hits him in the head like it is George's fault. If I was George, I would have gotten the H@ll out of there, and never come back again, too. George's family is just like the Weasleys, but on a smaller scale.

Quick picks:

Deathly Hallows is just like Team America too. They're both evil.

"Harry wakes up one day starkers and tied up in the basement..."

Ships 'Dumblebumble/Mutilated baby Voldy Thingy'.

JKR plagiarized Harry Potter from a book she saw once.

Okay, so as most of you likely know, JKR wrote a little book of fairy tales called "The Tales of Beedle The Bard." It's handwritten, there are only seven copies in existence, and Amazon.com bought one at auction for roughly four million American dollars.

They've put photos and reviews up on their site, but the real joy is in the public discussions at the foot of the page. Here's a comma-ridden taste from a thread entitled 'PATHETIC'.

Clearly, Mr. Chapman, had you read the books, you'd know, that no one, was actually, turned into a toadstool. Perhaps, if you'd referred to Mr. Draco Malfoy's transfigurement into a weasel, then, your snide words, might have held more credence. Enjoy your bitterness.

With 60 threads and counting, it's going to be good and it's going to last forever.

"You don't know the history of the Third Reich! I do!"

Back in August, Lissy/Lysette ran into a spot of trouble with the old Harry Potter/Hitler comparisons. For your amusement.

Lissy: I tend to view the Post Voldemort Wizarding World as a cross between thirties Germany under Chancellor Hitler, when undesirables were already starting to disappear, and Salem under Cotton Matther, where certain people were Born Evil, and needed to be rooted out and destroyed for the good of the whole. Matther had the right to decide who was worthy to live, and who was not. Only HIS opinion Mattered. I hope Harry doesn't mind that Dumbledore deemed him as Not Worthy. On the other hand, Ronald Weasley is the Poster Boy for the New World Order. The Fourth Reich.

I would never want to live under Rowling's New World Order.

Arya 23:You know this is all nice and dandy to express a displeasure with the new book and its "message" and all as I dont deny it could rise one' eyebrows more than once but comparisons like these you just made are plain ignorant and disgusting. It is very easy to throw comparison to Hitler and Fifth Reich around. Really. But you have no idea what you are talking about.

Lissy: I bet I know far more about what it was like "on the Ground" so to speak living in Hitler's Germany prior to the invasion of Poland in '38 than you think. You had those that were born on the "right side" and those that were born on the "wrong side." (Strange that Hitler and most of his cronies would be placed on the wrong side, same as Cotton Matther in his Salem, if someone else was doing the judging.) Things happened like the SS grabbed this wrong guy because he happened to have the same name as someone they were looking for. They sent the casket back with a note on it to the family to not open. The guy they grabbed was a harmless teacher at the local college. In the early Thirties, anyone foolish enough to wear a Military Uniform out in public was likely to be torn to pieces by the Mob because the Military was hated for losing WW I and making things the way they now were. Many Historians have said that Hitler would have gone down in History as a "Great Statesman," if only he had had the good sense to die by 1938. People were already starting to "disappear," but they were only the wrong people. Just ignore it. Right People were safe. After WW I, Germany was beaten like the South after the Civil War in the US. Hitler was rebuilding Germany at an incredible rate, but no one could even imagine what the terrible cost that would be later extracted for it.

Your Duty IS to the State and Nothing else. WHATEVER the State may require of you, Hitler's plan to produce plenty of Aryan Babies to fill the Military and that sort. In Sparta, Anyone who died in battle OR IN CHILDBIRTH was given a State Funeral because they died in service to the State. The Citizens ONLY function is to Serve the State. If they have no service to give to the State, then they are useless and should be discarded. Examples, Molly constantly harping that all her kids MUST go into the Ministry, even if like the Twins, they have NO aptitude for it. To not serve the State is to have No purpose at all. If the State requires you to die, then you better get about it, and not question why. To question the State in any way is Blasphemy. One of my favorite authors was with Sixth Army at Leningrad, and actually lived to write about it after the War.
And then the FA mods warned Lissy off the subject. Short, but bewildering as usual.

ETA: More Hitler Comparisons.

A sporked version of this wank is available at The H.M.S. STFU. Though I suppose, technically, it should be just "H.M.S. STFU", since it otherwise works out to "The Her Majesty's Ship STFU", but... then again, without the "the" it sounds wrong.

Now, see, that's over-analysing. However, not quite so much as today's crank does: D.I.A.T.S.S.I.S.E., or QWERTYUIOP, as I shall refer to it, is a crank theory from before Deathly Hallows which, when proven wrong, sent its author into a rant of epic proportions.

Basically, it says that Dumbledore Impersonated A Trustworthy Severus Snape In Spinner's End - or QWERTYUIOP. This was the grand solution to all the mysteries of the Harry Potter series. As he explained:

To solve a mystery, most mystery genre fans know you have to use logic and deductive reasoning. What is logical to the fantasy genre fans is illogical in real life. I believe J. K Rowling is about to end the series in a logical, reasonable manner.

...a logical, reasonable manner which involves Dumbledore randomly impersonating Snape and agreeing to kill himself. But then, I'm a fantasy genre fan, and, according to him:

The Harry Potter fantasy genre fans believe the plot of Half Blood Prince has Dumbledore, the most intelligent wizard ever born, assign to a 17 yr. old teenager the almost impossible job of saving the world alone with no backup or support. Just think how illogical that conclusion is, but the fantasy genre fans tell you that was the plot of Half Blood Prince. They tell you it is logical for Dumbledore to have assigned this task to Harry Potter, and that the plot of Deathly Hallows will simply be about how this unqualified teenager finds the horcruxes, gets past their protection, destroys them, and then locates and kills the most evil and powerful wizard of all times. What a stupid idiot plot. I hope J. K. Rowling doesn't insult my intelligence with such an idiot plot. Examples of the errors of the logic of the fantasy genre fans is given throughout this site.

And furthermore, he wants Harry not to save the day, but instead be a perfectly ordinary wizard being tricked into being a pawn to allow other people to kill Voldemort while Harry distracts him. This would have the additional bonus of really insulting the fantasy genre fans:

By writing Deathly Hallows in this way, JKR will in effect have created a parody of the fantasy genre making the most adamant of her fantasy fans the butt of this joke.

Of course, this didn't pan out. So he went tl;dr on us!

After a short insulting "Congratulations" to those proven right, he took a hint from the Harmonians:

Against my desire not to give another second of my time thinking about Harry Potter my mind kept looking at possible changes in the plot that would have created a great mystery as well as fantasy and developed this theory. I am only posting it as closure for this period of my life. I have no desire to spend any time discussing or arguing it. I have already wasted too much time...

JKR CHANGED HER MIND BETWEEN HBP AND DEATHLY HALLOWS

This is the only logical explanation that my mind could come up with because of the –forgive me- clue and the fact that the DIATSSISE theory is the perfect answer to the true owner of the elder wand in Deathly Hallows.

In my opinion JKR changed her mind on what she was writing or made major plot changes during the editing process because the movie industry wanted a different type of book and she wanted to please her child. The movie industry thinks and JKR agreed that the DIATSSISE theory and the trap theories are too complicated for movies or children. The only reason I include JKR’s child to this theory is JKR’s last paragraph of her office entry after DH was released.

MY BIGGEST REGRET

From this time forward when I think of the Harry Potter series I will think: “What a Shame. The series turned from a literary classic to Juvenile Trash with a few changes to the plot. It could have been so great. What a shame.”

...At which point, he writes JKR a letter of such hilariousness that I suggest you read it in full (either at http://www.diatssise.com/ or at the aforementioned spork.) Some highlights include:

I did not believe this letter would become necessary. I thought the Harry Potter books would be placed in a closet or bookcase or donated to a library where they now belong and everyone would proceed forward with their lives. I thought you would recommend this course of action to the children and encourage them to put up their Harry Potter books and get off the discussion forums and then direct them to other books.

However, since, in fact, she isn't insulting her own work - nine days after it launched - and since...

In my opinion the children on these forums are totally and completely absorbed with the fantasy world of Harry Potter. It is all they want to talk about.

Thus, of course...

THESE CHILDREN NEED TO GET OFF THESE FORUMS IN A REASONABLE TIME AND FORGET ABOUT HARRY POTTER AND GET ON WITH THEIR LIFE. I realize that they probably need to discuss what they like about the final book, but in my opinion it is not healthy for these children to continue much longer with their obsessive demands for unimportant detail. Please start encouraging these children to put their Harry Potter books away and start reading other books. I realize that I’m not a child psychologist, and I therefore ask you to please check with experts on the harm being caused to these children.

PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

Thank you

Paintball

...Yes, he actually shouts, in all caps, "Please think of the children!". A most rewarding little wank.

Harmonians: Still Oppressed, part CXIV in an ongoing series

Over in the comments of the latest lj_biz post, usofbs posts a comic comment (Note: comic is NSFW, as one of its panels has a banned Snarry pic) explaining how LJ could possibly have decided to delete a few more journals lately.

So why am I posting about this here? Because the comic blames it all on the Harmonians! OH NOEZ!

Cue Logansrogue losing her shit in futher comments:

Are you fucking stupid? The last thing you need to be doing right now is alienating *any* part of fandom, particularly H/Hr Shippers.

You do realise that we have far more members in harryhermione than is in honestlyronald?

My comm is affiliates with honestlyronald as well. A large number of our fans *liked* the seventh book and defended it.

So I really do think you owe H/Hr shippers an apology. I realise you're just making a joke but seriously - you lot have been making the SAME fucking joke for two years now. It's not funny anymore! I understand the 'Potterdammerung' wasn't quite as satisfying this time, without the huge numbers of us wailing and gnashing our teeth at the OBHWF ending, but trying to go from this problem and segue into it being the Crazy Harmoanians again is really fucking lame.

This Harmonian is on the side of the slashers. This Harmonian ENJOYS SLASH.

The only person wanking in this thread, dear girl, is you. Congratulations, here's your "Dumb-shit Shipper Dick" award.

And later:

See, that's exactly it. It's *not* a harmless joke. Harry/Hermione fans are consistently excluded from fandom *just* because they read a book differently.

I hate to tell you this but your comic isn't funny. It's just not funny.

You're right - I over-reacted. I apologise for that. But I don't think you realise how wearing it is, taking care of a community, having to go above and beyond what any other fan group has to to prove ourselves sane and normal fans. It's a consistent tightrope, do you realise that? It's been going on for two years now and I get a little sick of it.

And this comic? It's just making things worse! I'm just as upset as anyone else here about what LJ is doing. Why pick on the H/Hr fans? I don't think you realise this, but your 'harmless' comic is insinuating that fans like me, Harry/Hermione fans, think any other pairing other than H/Hr amounts to rape.

That - that isn't hilarious. And making out like we're all against the 'perverted' other fandoms? Not funny either. We're one of the crowd and we just wanted to be treated as such, okay?

So you can pretend that I'm being crazy if you like, but I think I have a legitimate point here, which I'd really like for you to consider. If you have nothing against the H/Hr fandom, then don't sell them out for a joke that you hope will get you some LOLs and pats on the back. It's just not cool.

Again - I'm sorry for swearing at you. It wasn't cool of me and I shouldn't have let myself fly off the handle like that cause clearly it solved nothing.

But please consider that I have something real to be upset about.

When told to chill, because it was just a joke, Logansrogue and other Harmonians chime in with: "But it wasn't funny! If it has been funny, I'd be laughing right along with you! Srsly!"

Right. Sure.

Ah-ha! There really is a different version of DH around!

Lysette (Lissy) on the FAP ARGH thread:
http://forums.fictionalley.org/park/showthread.php?s=&postid=1730393#post1730393

What do you all think of Harry picturing Ginny in a wedding gown getting married to another guy?

As IF! Harry was just proving what a little sod he is. Gin-Bot doesn't breathe without his permission. If she did, he would lock her back in her Tower until she got with the program. I think DH!Harry despises weakness. He might have told Ron he liked her because she was tough from having six brothers, but Harry is always disgusted and ignores her whenever Bot shows a sign of weakness or emotion at all. That was why he was disgusted with Hermione, so it would carry over to the Bot. What was he going to tell his best friend, "The ONLY reason I like your sister is that she puts out." Even RON would slug him over that. Good thing Lavender didn't have any brothers when Ron, as we now know, had to punish Hermione repeated over something that happened two years ago. I would have loved it, if Harry informed Ronald that the ONLY reason he liked Ron's sister was because she is easy! I figure Ron would whine and blister and run away. That is another advantage with Ginny, Ron is afraid of Harry, so it is not like Ronald is going to Do Anything, no matter how insulting Harry is towards Ginny's Honor. Besides, Molly wants them married, so told Ronald that if he did anything to jeopardized Ginny's chances, then he had better NEVER try to come back to the Burrow. Molly is mercenary. Molly is the Mom in Reba's song, "Fancy." "You be Nice to Harry, Ginny, and he will take care of you.' Only that Mom wanted her daughter to live, and couldn't see any other way. (bold mine)

It's one thing to "interpret" the text differently from others, but when you start making crap up to fit your worldview...

Classy!

Hello Harmonians,

the idea behind Project Harmony is that we pull off a full page ad (maybe even more) in a magazine to finally be able to speak up and let JKR know how we feel.

I've done a similar project for another couple before and it got a reaction from producers and the actors. I wasn't in charge of it, but I hope we can all work together to figure this out.

God knows we won't change this horrible ending for Harry and Hermione, but I think it's time we speak up, not only to tell JK how we feel, but also to honor H/Hr and let the world know that we're still out there and we're not going anywhere.

...Yep, it's time for another Harmonian project to tell JKR how they feel! Just like the other great projects... that never really got pulled off.

"Nora", the organiser, also prepared a sample letter.

I wrote a first draft of the letter. It's just a suggestion. Feel free to add or remove anything or write down your own ideas.

This ad is an homage to the characters Harry Potter and Hermione Granger from the "Harry Potter" book series.

First and foremost, we'd like to thank J.K. Rowling for creating these two characters. In spite of the fact that the series ended with other pairings, we are still grateful for all the wonderful moments we got to read between those two. While we definitely saw the 'anvil sized hints' for certain other couples, they didn't capture our hearts. It was the deep bond between Harry and Hermione that did, no matter where it eventually led them. The traits that define their relationship are things that we all value in life: mutual respect, admiration, unconditional love and support, kindness, loyalty..... There are many scenes throughout the books that capture all these things, but one of them stands out to us: in 'Deathly Hallows', Hermione accompanies Harry to his parents' graves. He cries and mentally wishes to have something to put on the graves. Hermione senses it, conjures a wreath and silently holds his hand throughout. It is this scene that sums up why these two characters have so many fans, even though not a word is spoken between them. The understanding and depth to their relationship has yet to be matched by another and it is this love, sexual or not, that we will remember and carry with us from this series.

If all this makes us 'delusional', as stated by a website's member who shall remain unnamed, then we'll proudly accept that term and take comfort in the fact that we never felt the need to trash people in front of the books' author just because their opinions differ from ours.

Last but not least, special thanks to actors Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, who portray Harry and Hermione beautifully in the movies and bring their magic to life brilliantly.

However, there's a problem: as havoc says:

"I think there should be a little more critisism towards book 7 in the letter. I like the ending (the small thank you to Dan and Emma) because it's quite small and I think it should stay that way."

Nora responds:

What do you suggest? I want the letter to be as respectful as possible. It'd be sad if we came off as whiny.

At which I laugh and laugh. Luckily, sarielle has a completely non-whiny addition.

"Many of us were disappointed that in both Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows Harry and Hermione seemed to lose some of their character traits that made them so special, seemingly in order to allow for the final pairings to happen. To be honest, this was rather hurtful; all of a sudden these two characters we so adored became people we felt we hardly knew anymore, all for the sake of two romantic relationships that we felt served no great purpose to the plot. However, we must reiterate that we respect Ms Rowling and her work very much, and acknowledge that just like in life, fiction doesn't always work out the way we want it to."

You know, I really hope they pull this one off. I'd buy that magazine.

ETA:
harryandhermione85 writes:
I agree that we shall not seem whiny, and that we shall not give Emerson any satisfying. But we have to point out she offended us with her behaviour, and that we are proud to be "delusional".

Of course, it's more accurate with an ellipsis: I agree that we shall not seem whiny... and that we are proud to be "delusional".

This post is pretty fucking funny:

http://community.livejournal.com/spoil_me_dh/203232.html#cutid1

Awww the Giant Squid is part of the OBHWF! Either that or they are saying that Molly is an ugly beast.

Someone is going to spontaneously combust! OMG!

http://community.livejournal.com/spoil_me_dh/205127.html

<i>"I have a plan.

If the epilogue is true, everyone send her a pumpkin with a knife in it and a note that says You. I think she'll get the message"</i>

Lovely.

But the "ASS Ship" comments rule.

ETA: How does something "Jump the Shark" when it's fucking OVER?

I guess we should start a post about the (edit) confirmed REAL epilogue going around. SPOILERS and NON-STOP WHINING in the links.

ONTD_trash: Scans in the comments.

spoil_me_dh: Your writing is shit, Jo!

Edit: News sites are talking about the leak now and there's a locked post on spoil_me_dh where the book was scanned showing the dust jacket, colored hard bookcover, copyrights, title and dedications pages. Unless someone decided to fake all that as well as 700+ pages, the leak is real.

Edit^2: A mousy pointed out there is a new lj community: its_a_fake.

Edit^3: There's a plan of mass suicide on JKR's lawn if she doesn't write <strike>a Harmoanian ending</strike> the book better. (Thanks nekoama!)

Edit^4: A mousy pointed out there's a new picture of the book going around with a certain lj community in the background.
Is there any more wank over the Movie? Or is everyone too busy wanking about DH? I thought for sure that there would be a wankfest over the changes made to the story. Namely the Harry/Hermione scenes.

Just to cover the important bits before the big day starts to arrive:

1. We're still taking H/Hr wank after the Potterdamerung.

2. If problems arise at any point soon, my e-mail is available from my JF userinfo

3. If H/Hr really DOES happen in the last book, I'm fully willing to turn this boat around and use this place to mock the OBHWF shippers, assuming any of you lot act as crazy as the Harmonians did.

Any questions/comments/issues/concerns/cute pictures of baby rodents?

PK--full of sound and fury signifying spoilers

If you haven't guessed, there are going to be possible spoilers for DH in this post. Mainly because Portkey's shipping spoilers thread is flying through the pages with everybody talking about the spoilers. So, you know, there might be DH SPOILERS. I, of course, cannot comment on the reality of these spoilers (who can?) but if you're avoiding them then this post might not be for you.

Well, let's start off with a direct link to the 'spoiler' post. The site is loading slowly, everybody. There's currently over a hundred people on that thread ALONE. And at least one confirmed sock is there, too. ~.^

Okay! And the first response is... someone help me sort this all out...its too much for my brain to handle right now!

I won't make the joke because it'd be like shooting fish in a barrel. Using a cannon. And a dixie cup for a barrel.

Second response?

you only just signed up here, the source is conveniently friends-locked, that you are lacking details because of your own reluctance, and that you haven't any knowledge of other story aspects perhaps to minimise any chance of contradicting yourself.

A good point. Too bad you ruin it with your next statement. I would also think JK would be a bit more creative with the titles, instead of just 'The Wedding'

Like JKR didn't name a chapter 'The Gaunts'. Or 'Hagrid's Tale'. Still, any port in a storm, right mates? At any rate, other people chime in on these spoilers--agreeing that the titles sound wrong and that The Wedding is too late in the book. Then come the memories from pre-HBP. When the 'fanfic spoilers' came out. And then came true. Cue the angst. And anger.

I don't know about you guys but my faith is slipping away. Fast. Just NOW?

I just wish JK hadn't written H/Hr with such a close bond. It's beyond unsatisfying to have Harry end up with someone less closer to him than Hermione. Because he can never grow close to other people without destroying his previous relationships. NEVER!

In the wods of Mr. Knightley, It was badly done, Jo. Badly done indeed.

Oh somebody help me I think I'm going to explode!!! I went through this same thing for HBP. It was an awful mess. Generally speaking, when somebody explodes it SHOULD leave an awful mess.

WHY would Hermione want to be with a guy that treats her like the garbage at the side of the road?
It just doesn't make sense with her previous characterization...but then again, HBP destroyed the character that was built the first five books...

I think that if DH doess go R/Hr then I think we can all agree that JKR SUCKS at writing romance. [snip When I eventually read these to my daughter I'm going to make sure that she understands that if a boy insults her, makes her cry, uses her, and ignores her for months at a time, that he is not one worth crying over, and definately not one wasting your time on. That she should go for the guy who listens to her ideas (even if he doesn't follow them [tounge-gif]), respects her beliefs and opinions (even if he doesn't agree [tongue-gif]), appreciates all that you do for him (Harry better wake up to this fact in DH or I will be royaly POed), and is a true friend. A fine lesson, yes, but you're going to teach her to be a poor reader, too.

Problem is, I have a feeling or a theory if you could call it, that between OotP and HBP, JKR spent too much time on Mugglenet and Leaky forums and reading OBHWF fics on Sugarquill

I think what aggravates me the most is that I simply don't get JK's intentions if it's R/Hr and Harry/Someone. I mean, if she really thought she could write H/Hr this close and not expect anyone to ship them, I'm sorry, but then we're not the delusional ones. What was her intention with H/Hr then? If Hermione was never meant to mean more to Harry than Ron, why constantly increase her importance? Remember the fish and the barrel? Doesn't shooting it sound like fun?

We take a short break into some 'replace Hermione's name with Ron in H/Hr moments and hahahaha, look it looks like Harry/Ron--we're not wrong! SEE!' fun. And then back to angst and anger.

I feel that if it goes R/Hr then I need something along a 'I'm sorry' from JKR. I know that she really didn't put us down in the IoD but I wasn't that impressed with how she dealt with it either. Why didn't she say at least something about it afterwards? Something in our defense. Did she really mean to put us H/Hr shippers, a good portion of her fan base, down that bad?

If it turns out RHr, I will REMEMBER everything she said in that interview and the whole truth will sink in--that she WAS laughing at us, in the worse way possible, and that will be it. Entitlement much?

But I have one ###### question for JKR. If you were planning on keeping H/Hr platonic, what was the point of making them so ###### close!?

I mean...fish in a barrel. Gunfire. That sounds like fun to me.

I might swear her off completely. For five books I assumed JKR was an incredible author. Book 6 left me Dazed and Confused. If book 7 is just as bad, I don't want to read anything else by her... This little poster set of a trend of people swearing off JKR. Oh, noes! Sixteen people won't read anything else she ever writes!

Stan--long known to be a bastion of sanity on PK (by us, I mean) pops saying that he's seen a pagescan and it's real. A lot of people don't believe Stan--he's pretty much called a liar. Then he gives them the business. Or, in this case, a picture of the scan that he managed to save. Now, this picture was originally on a foreign language site and deleted by the poster within minutes and to keep anybody from getting into trouble, Stan deletes his too. But other people saved it and I've nabbed it. It's a scan of a chapter-title page with illustration (US).

Please note: I do NOT know where this picture originated. I AM NOT able to comment on the validity of it. This is MERELY a spoiler picture I got from the Harmonians. It will be taken down if, by some chance, I am requested to take it down.

Now, links. The original image. And... copy altered by NAPPA to show why he/she believes it is fake. In fact, NAPPA tells us about that image: I manipulated the the hue and saturation. i don't think the image stan posted was original. The name cropped seemed to suggest there was editing by him or someone else to remove maybe text below. But the thing is that the alignment of the chapter name on the next page is off. I pasted where it should really show, unless there is a reason that the chapter name would be off center. Okay, maybe just me but I thought--well, if the book is open and upside down on a scanner, the pages WOULDN'T line up thanks to the way books are bound. Just me, though. Again, with the real-or-not-is-not-up-to-me thing. Also the shown through text seemed totally unreadable. And later: The artwork looks very much like Marta's. But her site is offline so I can't compare properly. Marta who, I do not know.

Well. Cue the woe and cries of fakery.

All I can say is....NNNOOOOO!!!!

Grrrrr i swear I want to throw up...

BAH!!!!! MY EYES!!!!! Holy hell, I can't even stand to look at it for very long!!!!!! ::HEARTBREAK AND RAGE::
::::DEATH BY DISAPPOINTMENT:::::

Do you think my fish has gone belly up in the barrel without me shooting it? *is worried*

Unless I'm seriously mistaken that is not Grandpre. She never drew in a circle like that I don't remember her ever shading in her drawings for the chapters. They were always black and white outlines with the exception of when specific details were needed. But even then, her chapter pics were always simple. This is too detailed to be Grandpre.

Why is it that the next page has the chapter title not in the middle but to the side ?

Or could that be James and Lily? I will be forever skeptical Even after you read the book?

Oh, gag me with a spoon!

The guy in the picture looks too mature to be Harry, and his hair doesn't look as messy for some reason, and the girl looks older and more mature than Ginny as well.

I don't think that is an actual drawing. If you look, they look too real and GrandPre's are more cartoonish like. GrandPre also uses more shading in faces.

It's sort of like watching a ping-pong match.

Thats SOO unfair if that illustration is real..

It's just ....... disgusting. It's like an exact physical replica of J/L.

These spoilers are fake!

There's a brief bit of questioning if James did, or did not, have glasses and if the picture is actually James/Lily. Fun stuff.

Why maintain a style for SIX BOOKS and then change it for the seventh?

f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck I have to admit, that's been my favorite response so far. My only consolation is that it is only chapter 7. There is more time....I hope. *hanging on to a H/Hr thread here*

I'm just starting to be heartbroken. Just NOW?

I was going to just jump to the end--still twelve pages to go!--but questions come up about Stan's source and the other source. And sources in general.

You said that the spoilers you got were in a foreign language. If you foreign source had the English spoiler, why not post them in English.

I'm disinclined to believe it's Harry/Ginny due to a reluctance to back it up. *shrug* But that's just me.

Yes. The source (as I understood) got the book from freight leak or something like that. Source is in US, but a new-comer. Reasonably fluent in English, but not much beter than I am. Says, Stan.

I just don't understand the point of being so vague. All this alluding to knowing stuff (like the H/Hr moment) and then not actually specifying. What is the point of even letting us know that you know in the first place if you're not going to post what you know?

we deserve a chance to have it translated. If you cant provide a source, your spoilers to ME are just as bogus as any other. [SNIP] The surge of users and guests? i say thats interesting enough how i always imagined Herons/Chocos to react if they gave out information like this that COULD be real, and just to see our reaction..

You seem pretty fluent to me...? What language was it posted in, if not English?

and I am skeptical of the spoilers due to who the users are and where they seem to be coming from. The stories of how they know these spoilers seem far-fetched and hard to believe.

So, the person who read the book read it in english... but they're not allowed to post spoilers in english... and they're english is not good. My god, how convoluted is that!? These "SOURCES" are getting more annoying by the day.

I was under the impression that this supposed source came about an English copy of the book but wrote out a translation in their native language while posting said picture. I mean, honestly. Can't they just post the translation here and let people get a rough English translation?

Those are pretty good points. Our original spoiler-poster returns!

I spent a good while reading her post over and over before I decided that she wasn't pulling our legs.

Not good enough! You'll have to name names and repost flocked posts for THIS crowd, methinks.

I've just decided that I'll wait for puck_nc to tell us what the deal is, since she has the same source who also provided valid spoilers for HBP. Who now?

I still agree with everyone else that thinks the story of how these posters got their source of spoilers is far-fetched.

So basically you came here to post that you know someone who has the book, and has spoilers posted in their LJ, but because you don't want to be too spoiled before reading the book you aren't going to look at them?
Pardon me while I [x3 laughing-gif]

She's putting vague spoilers on her post, and only giving out explicit ones through e-mail. I'm trying to avoid explicit spoilers. "One major character kills another on page 606, totally true!" is okay. "Dumbledore kills Snape!" is not. Says our spoiler-poster.

And so it continues. Again, over 100 people on that thread alone and it's moving FAST. It updated fifteen pages WHILE I WROTE THIS. I'll ETA as needed, I guess.

ETA: Is needed. They've gone and maxed out the thread and are six pages onto a new one. Find the new thread here.

Lookit all the fishies in the barrel...

ETA: Is not needed. Except...remember the wank that got deleted because of the underage poster? Well: I think it's a well-orchestrated hoax perpetrated to get revenge for the person who posted all the H/Hr spoilers a few days back, which NAPPA had to clean off the forums. They were all over the place and I feel certain that the person's admission of guilt really made some Herons angry. LOL! 'Fess up, you bastards!

ETA: Removing troll bait.

The SPORFLE!ETA: Do we all recall how the spoiler people were treated? Questions? Demands? Sarcasm and disbelief? Well a flyby poster named Marty shows up and says 'I know for a fact that the chapter list is real! but the rest is sour grapes! it's all H/Hr!' and everybody reacts the same way! Oh, wait, no they don't. They accept Marty and his information with open arms! Of course they were right all along! See the third thread for the lulz.

The Slightly More Important ETA: The orginal Source of the spoilers has apparently deleted her LJ. I'm asking people who 'know' the source to not discuss the person. If she has real information, I'd rather protect her than out her. The internet is for being anonymous.

The Final ETA: Forums are now password protected (dh) and that means, sadly, that you must be a member to get in and see the lulz. But the lulz are pretty much over.

I'll take 'Words that start with D' for 600, Alex

Apparently Emerson isn’t receiving as much hatemail and fangirling as he’d like these days. Earlier he made a post on Mugglenet to help rectify the situation:

WARNING: This is a very opinionated post!

Keith Olbermann has made some bold public predictions about the end of the series on his TV news show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Make sure you read the second page of the article before making judgment. It is my personal belief, and not necessarily that of the rest of the MuggleNet staff, that he is not far off the mark in his guesses. Except for that whole Harry turning into a muggle business. I mean, really?

In other news, Scholastic has published the results of their fourth fan poll question. They claim a majority of fans - 56% - believe that Harry will end up with Hermione, 20% believe that Ron will end up with Hermione and 19% believe that Harry will end up with Ginny.

Um, was Scholastic polling people who have actually read the books? 56% of fans are wrong. Dead wrong. I quote JKR, in the interview Melissa and I conducted with her two summers ago:

JK Rowling: Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of Azkaban, that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...

I would think it's difficult to interpret "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and "anvil-sized hints" any other way, but apparently 56% of fans disagree with me (or just haven't read the interview... or book 6... or book 5... or book 4...). But then, many fans still believe Dumbledore is still alive, despite JK Rowling saying that he is "definitely dead." Come on, guys. Wishful thinking isn't going to bring him back.

Note that the question wasn't Who Do You Want to End Up With Whom?, but Who Will End Up With Whom?. There's a difference between wanting something to be true, and believing it is true. There is a word in the English dictionary for holding a belief without evidence, and in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary... I'll give you a hint, it starts with a D.

Naturally everyone’s taking his comments very well! However, it’s not the Harmonians that are winning the wank trophy this time, it’s the Good Shippers and some random Olbermann bashers. Over 350 comments so far.

-OMG. I love you Emerson. People are so retarded to think that JK's word is wrong. In the HP world, her word is law.

-first of all, 56% of the harry potter population have never been in a relationship and haven't picked up on like the 50 hints per books of ron and hermione. second, how have we not heard this theory before? is this guy gonna be famous if he's right?

(Yeah, Keith Olbermann’s going to go down in history as the man who correctly predicted Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.)

-Are these people complete IDIOTS! OF COURSE Ron and Hermione end up together and OF COURSE Harry and Ginny do! Plus, JK said so, and her word is god.

-The Harry/Hermione shippers were stuffing the ballet because you could vote more than once. I've actually given several Harry/Hermione shippers links to the article. And they still think Harry/Hermione. Most of them are pretty stupid.

-Maybe some ANVIL-SIZED hints fell on their heads, causing extensive brain damage?

-Hahahhaa - I love Emerson. Just for his cockiness and the fact that he doesn't care that he's being rude to H/Hr shippers! In all seriousness - 56% believe it's H/Hr? So that's saying 56% of the HP Fan population haven't read the books at all?

-Keith Olbermann is a hack. He is dumb beyond belif, okay well I don't know him but in his review of Beauty and the Beast (the ONLY animated film to be nominated for Best Picture in the history of the Academy Awards) he said it "lacked Disney magic." In his more recent review of Ratatouille he faulted the movie for not having really famous people voicing the characters. WTF?

-So, that olbermann article was pretty stupid. Have of his arguments are based on financial decisions and we know that JKR could care less about that. This is her story she came up with when she had little money. She's not going to alter it based on money, she's got enough of it. Olbermann is an idiot. In conclusion. She didnt think back in 1991: "Hmmm, i'm poor, but just incase this makes me rich, i'm going to write this novel in a way so that i can continue merchandising and marketing in the future after i'm finished writing" Anyone who listens to olbermann is an idiot.

-56%??....56%????.... 56%??????????? im sorry but i just cannot get my head around this!! how could 56% of harry potter fans be complete idiots??? im suprised they even had the brains to do the poll!!!! and because these "fans" (personally i dont think we can even call them that!) are so dumb that they beleive harry will end up with hermione, i think i should point out that the word emerson was refering to was DELUSIONAL!!!!!......56%? ???????????????

-HAHAH Emerson strikes again! As the H/H Shippers blood begins to boil, their hopeless ignorant dreams are being fueled by this poll! I have once asked someone, how they interpreted JKR's comment "Yes, we now know its Harry and Hermione" as ... 'now' not 'later'. Which is absolutely absurd. They are F. R. I. E. N. D. S.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clearly, 56% percent of the people need to read the books, and need to get a big smack in the back of the head.

-its really stupid having harry turning up with hermione. I mean come on. Havent we given enough clues that ron and hermione like each other. Scholastic's polls are just stupid

-thank you emerson! if i had a dollar for everytime i had to argue with someone (regardless if they have read the books or not) that hermione and harry are NEVER going to happen, i would be richer than J.K. Rowling herself! 56% of those people must be incredibly eminently dense.

-omg, who the hell voted for harry and hermione? is it not OBVIOUS that its ron and hermione? pft its ron and hermione, harry and ginny. most defienetly DURRHHH dumb people who dont read the books or interviews *tsktsk*

-wait ... what's the D word? Is it dim-witted? Or disturbed? Damp? Dull? Dumb? ... just kidding. I know it's delusional. Nice, Emerson, I don't know who picked H/Hr on Scholastic's site...maybe they all did it as a joke. like VoteFortheWorst on American Idol.

-Ugh. I hate it when people ignore truth. Come on people! Harry/Hermione is like brother going out with sister. GROSS! Ron likes Hermione so he fights to hide his feelings. Hermione does the same. Also, Harry/Ginny needs more votes. They are so gonna end up with each other. That is if they both survive, but.... Get it together! Harry liked Ginny for longer than he knew, Ginny liked Harry for a long time even though she tried not too. It's called denial people! JKR wrote these books and she put in clues. If America had any decent sense the poll should have been different. I mean, Harry and Hermione!? EW! Harry and Ginny love each other. Ron and Hermoine love each other. End of discussion.

-the fact that ANYONE who has read any of the harry potter books and STILL thinks that there is even the slightest bit of hope for hermione and harry makes me sick. it's ron and hermione forever guys! :)

-hey people., okay, emerson may have gone a bit over the line for some of you, but dont insult HIM. after all, its HIS site... if you think he is such a *prat*, etc, what are you doing in his fansote? because, this fandom is an HP fandom mainly, but because its HIS site, and he supports ron/hermione, its also a bit of a ron/ hermione site. so dont complain about the comments he makes about whatever subject he chooses...because its HIS site...this amazing site :) lol

-ummm....what do you mean Emerson's post was unprofessional?? He is not ridiculing Harry/Hermione shippers because of their opinions. He said, "You guys are dead wrong." which you ARE. You think H/Hr are going to end up together, even though they're not. That is an incorrect theory as Emerson pointed out. There is a HUGE difference between wanting something and what will actually happen. You ppl can WANT H/Hr to happen, but you can't claim that they will end up together, when the boss, Jk, clearly stated they weren't. So don't be little crybabies because you were called delusional, and it wasn't Emerson who called you stupid. Stupid and delusional do not mean the same thing...so thank you for proving your CLEARLY superior intellect.

He's loving this, isn't he?

Just in: God *still* ships Harmony

Previously:

Lockedinaroom's First Letter to the Harmonians 4:11 "In the dream, I was SOOOO sad but now all I can think is "one less delusional idiot on the planet!"

Lockedinaroom's Second Letter to the Harmonians 3:16 ”BUT our Lord Jesus is very gracious to us.
Because I started praying for JKR and our ship. I didn't think He'd do anything because God doesn't like to mess with free will. If JKR wants to write it that way, then so be it. However, that night, I had a dream of grown-up and pregnant H/Hr.”
And now we have been blessed by a new epistle from Lockedinaroom, Harmony Theologian.

I'm going to sound crazy but I go to God about almost everything. After reading HBP and gawking at its awkwardness, I started to tell God how I felt so betrayed by the book and the interview. I also told Him how strange it was that I would get so fed up about someone I've never met.

Anyways, God replied back. He told me not to forget all the "moments" in the last five books. I was reminded of the suspicions of Krum and Cho. Weird, I know... blink.gif But my church is the kind that prays for everything from feeling a little tired to actually being dead. (I've heard of a church where they had to tell people to stop raising the dead because a lot of people were old and ready to go on to the next great adventure.)
Lockedinaroom is not the only person to have discussed shipping with the Almighty. ConstanceVigilance:

That's really neat. I also pray to God all the time and when I was feeling unsure about H/HR I prayed to Him- and all of a sudden, I felt this really intense emotion that made me wonder why I ever questioned H/Hr. During that moment I knew it would be H/Hr in the end. I also felt this same emotion when I was having trouble with my faith, but He set me right again.
Lockedinaroom:

God is awesome! But I know if the critics get wind of this, they'll likely go on a killing spree. lolz

I do feel sorry for the Christians that are OBHWF. They will likely feel confused too and all God can tell them is that they should have been more discerning. One of my spiritual gifts is discerning, BTW. Well, that is assuming that Christian OBHWF'ers feel as strongly about shipping as we h/hr and r/l shippers do.

It's been quiet here ... too quiet

Emma Watson recently had an interview, in which she said:

Now it is clear to everybody that it is not just friendship between them. Everybody except them, of course. It is so typical, girls tend to end up with those guys who most annoy them, who most get them angry, who most behave horribly. Ron acts exactly like this towards Hermione. But their relationship will develop somehow, sooner or later. They will become a couple, I’m sure. Ron amuses her, which is what Hermione needs. And she keeps him in line. A perfect couple.

Oh no she didn't!

(Yes, I realized that Portkey wank is not like shooting fish in a barrel but pouring the barrel of fish out on the ground and jumping on them, but still. One of the actors gave a ship preference homgz11!!!11!!!)

Miss Mady: Did she really say she liked R/Hr because "he treats her horribly"? Oh Lord. What is Emma going on about? I want to be really snarky right now and rebute those comments, but I won't...

manuel23 ve: I really don't like the message R/Hr is sending to the kids. Maybe i'm a hopeless romantic.

[My buddy] mathiasgranger: So Hermione is looking to be amused by a guy who annoys and angers her....
Wow...I might just have to take back that smart label I placed on Emma...that is just...deep as a puddle.

Salamon2 [who, like faithfulreader, knows more about girls than girls do]: So we're doing the E.N.A.S.U.T.H. thing now? Count me in!
E.N.A.S.U.T.H. - Emma needs a slap upside the head
(stolen from pemberly.com where it's Edmund needs a slap upside the head, in reference to Jane Austen's Mansfield Park).
Also "most girls end up with guys who treat them horribly" - yeah, in High School... but those relationships don't last beyond it... And if they do, then most of those relationships either end in divorce or the guy cheating on the girl. Dear lord!
Excuse me, there is little hope for the rest of the human race, so let me go kill myself:

Black Agnes: Maybe we need a PK dating service and advice column for the nice, sentient folks who know why love should only be if it is like H/Hr

Seamus22: Might as well add me to the E.N.A.S.U.T.H. club. I'm only a little older than her and I know Ron is just insensitive and the relationship they do have is abusive. If Ron were to gain maturity two books ago I'd say he has a chance, but fortunetly he hasn't yet. But it is her opinion no matter how truly odd it is.

faithful2thecall: Hermione/Ron is a horrible example of what a romantic relationship should look like to young kids, especially in HBP. Emma's comments make me think that she might be the one with the emotional depth of a teaspoon (sorry, couldn't help myself either tongue.gif ).

mathiasgranger: As a public figure even one that is considered an adult and has adult assistants...I guess I don't understand the reasoning for why she would put her thoughts in such a dumb way.
I just have a feeling society is quickly moving away from marriage...soon we'll just have people having sex with no emotional attachment...because apparently that is the only thing that matters to the media...and society at large.

faithful2thecall: It'll be a sad state of affairs when a majority of people have sex with no emotional attachment (no pun intended).
I don't know the percentages, but there are a number of authors out there who write things into their stories that are critiques of aspects of society. We've already seen JKR do that in the series (the issue of blood purity comes to mind off the top of my head), so we have every reason to believe she'll do it again when it comes to love and criticize modern societies lack of emotional depth in their relationships. Of course, I'm also a hopeless romantic.

Salamon2: Welcome to "Brave New World" where people just have sex for sex's sake, marriage is a concept of the past, children are raised in test tubes, and people are encouraged to be promiscuous. You're frowned upon if you stay with one partner for too long.

Et la piece de resistance, Black Agnes again. Bolds mine.

I certainly hope you're right about this. This "cultural slide" away from the romantic ideal of love perfected by Jane Austen has been going on for such a long time. The 1960s and Cosmopolitan magazine and the sexual revolution and media bubblegum for the eyes have all shaped the values of a couple of generations. The pace of life itself has quickened radically from a "long way" being walking three miles from the Bennet house to Netherfield. Instant, visual media must "grab" attention with flashy, superficiality or get lost in the flood of images. My dad was in television for 40 years (from its inception until he retired in the '80s), and he always bemoaned the slippage of storytelling itself. Rather than carefully telling (i.e., revealing artfully) a story, television and film began to rely more and more heavily on flash to cover up the lack of substance. And our media-influenced society is shaped dramatically by this hit-and-run (or "slam, bam, thank you, ma'am" if you prefer) approach. Even books geared for children and young adults began to slide away from well-told stories of wonder that transcended the ordinary (think Chronicles of Narnia, The Secret Garden, even Huckleberry Finn) to garbage (my opinion) about super-ordinary people being super-ordinary in a post-modern, minimalist world. Not to ding ordinary people as subjects of books, but literature and all storytelling should take you somewhere you haven't been on your own. That could be Narnia...or that could be a different state of being. Just don't gave me Judy Blume! Her books could just be creative non-fiction textbooks on being ordinary.

When HP came out, it represented a welcome departure back to storytelling. Clearly, JKR relishes the art of the well-told story, the slow reveal, the clue-dropping and foreshadowing, the smokecreens...oh, all the things we love in an edge-of-the-seat movie or book or play. Look at us...we're sitting on the edge of the seat right now, and isn't that amazing? She has given us indictments of bigotry, greed, selfishness, etc., the things that plague society (and always have.) I have faith that the slow pace of character development and plot in HP bodes well for further indictments of the "slam, bam, thank you, ma'am" approach. She has said she wants to show people falling in love...and falling in love the good old fashioned way that we love means seeing beyond the surface. Beauty comes from within, not from some ideal thrown up for 15 seconds on a music video. I think Ron's quote in HBP about Luna is really revealing--he is really beginning to like her. In a rare moment of reflection, he is seeing beyond the wacky and into the delightful side of this girl. Of course he really does love Hermione, but he seems to be well on the path of falling in love with Luna. Her beauty is in slow reflection and in peeling away the surface. And JKR said it is important for us to see characters fall in love...and I think she means really fall in love over time, in the slow reveal of the classically told tale. Love is not a chest monster that comes roaring down the line; love is Emma going, "oh, OH, OHHHH! Maybe I blew it...it was Knightley all the time, and I took him for granted." The denouement will be swift, but the build up has taken forever. This is good storytelling. And I trust JKR to deliver.

From wank report.

On ARGH (something about hating H/G - ask sheep), Corbin Dallas states that something he hates about H/G is that there is no canon sex scene. Low-key sniping ensues (and Lysette makes a post without comparing HP to anything mad).

Meruhesae, however, decides to take things to the next level by calling Ginny a slut - always a good move.

And here I thought you lot DIDN'T believe that Harry sees Ginny as merely a sex object? Well, not surprising some people did think they had sex since they apparently never talked during their little outings--nice to know that Harry thinks Ginny's mouth is good for something. What else could they have been doing? Of course, the fact that Ginny was so quick to (apparently) jump in the sack with Harry and her crude remarks about Ron's "experience" suggests to me that she had to have been getting it on with Dean, too, so perhaps Harry's jealousy of only wanting Ginny to perform slutty acts with him was well-founded. [/sarcasm]

It's too bad the mods discouraged us from using We didn’t call Ginny a slut; Icky did as a thread title. Perhaps What About Jenny's Romantic Walk? would be a suitable alternative?

You'll have to forgive my snarkiness. I'm pregnant and moody.

GilyAnn then forgets the all-important H/G shipper Rule for Happiness: namely, Do Not Look or Even Think About ARGH.

Others have used similar filthy phrases before, but somehow this brought a bout of disgust with me. Provide canon (from JKR's books, not some fanfiction) where Ginny jumps in the sack with Harry. Ginny's remark about Ron's experience are about kissing, KISSING, she's not saying that Ron needs to get a blow job or nor does it suggest that she's giving free blow jobs. Before you jump into conclusions that JKR didn't write, do consider reading the books first. I'm repulsed by such use of words, even if we are only talking about a fictional character. Do you refer to real people, especially woman, in such way? It is absolutely sexist and derogatory that just because a girl dates a few boys then all of the sudden she's on "her knees" sucking someone's dick. God Forbid, that she's only a person with a nice personality that is fun to hang around.

Dating isn't a sin and dating more than one boy doesn't make you a hore. I'm absolutely repulsed and ashamed that members of ARGH feel the need to use such language to prove their hatred to H/G. Statements such as on "her knees", "getting some" or like the one above just make me ashamed and worried that woman, specially woman, go to such low standards, just because they aren't getting their way. Is it not a wonder why there is still discrimination against woman? Not even among ourselves we can't seem to behave. I see this kind of stuff it makes me feel that we deserve what we are getting.

Furthermore you ask what they could have been doing. How about talking, gossiping, studying, wallowing in misery about the war or simply enjoying each other's company? No off course not! The only way that Ginny can get Harry is by spreading her legs or being on her knees sucking him.

What absolutely brings me to misery is that no matter how hard I tried, or how hard I want too, I can't seem to hate your Luna because of you're lot. I wish I could, but I just can't and that makes me want to kick myself. The Luna I know in JKR's books is Ginny's friend and is clear that appreciates her. The Luna I know in the books defends Ginny and would never say such thing about her, in fact she would be pissed. To think, that I imagined that ARGH had reached a new low when it compared H/G to Hitler/Eva. That comparison absolutely constricted my heart. The fact that thousands of people suffering to the hands of such repulsive human being had been tossed carelessly was hard to digest, and all just because someone wanted to prove who can hate H/G more. How low are you guys going to go?

Congratulations ARGH's between this and the Hitler/Eva I'm not just livid, I'm beside myself, but I guess that's what you wanted it anyway and I'm big enough to accept things like that. Kudos, you got your aimed and you managed to piss off a H/G shipper.

The ARGHers behave in exactly the mature, intelligent way one would expect from people who compare H/G to Hitler/Eva Braun. They troll her journal. Meruhesae returns!

Perhaps, GilyAnn, you should look at yourself before you accuse others of not being able to read properly. I was being SARCASTIC, hence my use of [/sarcasm]. My comments were not directed as an affront to Ginny or your ship, nor am I upset about the supposed lack of Evanna publicity—I’m actually quite pleased with everything I’m hearing about the movies. I am not sexist, and while I'm not a fan of Ginny, if you can find even one post of mine where I have EVER called Ginny a slut and meant it, I will cease posting in VENOM ever again. I was specifically taunting Corbin Dallas in that post because he came into a thread he has no business in and was being irritating. Even you all have to see that he was acting like a moron. Personally, I have no idea why he would even think there would be an H/G sex scene if he didn’t at least think Harry was getting some from Ginny, so I mocked him. I can’t help it if you are offended by it, and I’m not going to apologize because if you can’t even tell that I was being sarcastic, then it’s not my problem. Also, if you don’t like what we have to say at ARGH, don’t lurk there, it’s as fucking simple as that. I certainly don’t visit threads I don’t agree with and you and yours might benefit from doing the same…then maybe you wouldn’t get so worked up about what people say about someone who isn’t even real? So let me spell it out: I don’t think Ginny is a slut, I wasn’t insulting her, I wasn’t insulting your ship, the only person I was aiming that post at was Corbin Dallas, end of story.

AND ON.

A Petit Exchange Full of Much Fail

Over on A.R.G.H. at Ye Olde FAP, Lysette is up to her old hyjinks- but this time, it really takes the cake. Her comparison is incredibly unique. Not only that, but this has to be a violation of Godwin's.

Shipping H/G or R/Hr is like shipping the OTP of the Third Riech: Hitler/Eva!

Lysette posts:

I consider both G/H and R/Hr "the Real Deal," just like I consider Eva Bruan/Adolph Hitler "the Real Deal." Eva was crushing on Hitler for YEARS for reasons unknown. Hitler kept her around because, since "The Night of the Long Knives" when the SA was destroyed by the SS (Putting the SS in power.), the rumor going around German High Command was that the reason the SA was destroyed was because their Leader rejected Hitler for a sixteen year old boy. Said Leader was given a gun with a single bullet, and told to do the right thing. Hitler had the SS destroy the SA in revenge for this rejection. This is what got the SS into the position of power they enjoyed for most of the war. While the public stance of the Hitler Regime was Antigay, in actuality the two in charge of the SS and several others in Hitler's staff where either known or rumored to be Gay.

Hitler finally rewarded Eva for her years of devotion with marriage on April 29, 1945, one day before she died of poison, and he died of a single gunshot wound to the back of the head. Even in death, Hitler was a coward. My point is that Ginny's "three sunlit weeks" comes across like Eva's Bunker Wedding, a too little too late boon for their steadfast devotion to an indifferent male. In many ways Ginny is just like Eva, a pretty and convenient Beard for what is really going on. Eva made those not in the know think that Hitler was normal, when in truth he was anything but. Hitler was living on rice and pills, and did not eat in the view of others. Hitler was dying of Parkinson's. Stalin kept the burned up body, and an autopsy was done in the Nineties to confirm the Parkinson's and the actual cause of death. Ginny made Harry appear to be a normal teenage school boy to himself and the rest of the school, and that was no more true than that Hitler was normal. Eva and Ginny were both illusions of normalcy. But that is all they were, illusions.

Anise furthur bolsters Lysette's analogy, by adding more input.

You know, it's really creepy, the way that Hitler LI parallels spring to mind so easily when thinking of H/G (as Lysette noted!) Dating Harry seems to be the kiss of doom (Cho lost Cedric after Harry got interested in her, and you just know Voldy is going to at least try to use Ginny against Harry in some way,) and every woman Hitler ever actually dated (not just Eva but Unity Mitford and poor Geli Raubal come to mind) killed herself.... well, anyway. That's enough of that, and I definitely don't think that Harry is Adolf or Ginny is Eva. She's more Geli, if anything. But isn't it all so romantic?? :P

To which, Lysette responds:

My point is that Hitler would have all these "perfect" home movies made of Him, Eva and whoever was visiting to give the illusion that everything was just picture perfect, normal to the German People, the Allies, that "nasty" Stalin, Japan and the rest. His relationship with Eva was total illusion, but she wanted him so badly that she was willing to take whatever crumbs he would toss her way. Hitler just needed a pretty girl that would play along with the program, and keep her mouth shut.

Harry wanted to convince everyone, particularly himself, that everything in his life was "Just Peachie," and the biggest thing he had to worry about was if his team would win the game on Saturday. It was just as big a load of Rubbish as Hitler's "Perfect Home Movies." Hitler got shot in the back of the head because Hilter did not want to face the fallout from what he had done any more than Jim Jones at Jonestown did, but neither could take their own life, alone. Dumbledore took that little bullet for Harry. So, now, unlike Hitler and Jim Jones who both had someone else kill them to avoid their fates, Harry decided to not take their cowards way out, and face his fate head on. Just not with his "Beard," Ginny Weasley -- the modern Eva Braun. The Ideal Girl of an indifferent guy who doesn't care.

Shine on, you crazy diamonds, shine on.

Since it's been almost a year since they were active, the brief history: gloatation is an OBHWF sockpuppet who quietly catalogued H/Hr shippers' assertations and predictions for a couple years before HBP, then leaked the LJ during the HBP aftermath. gloatation has a major axe to grind. But damnit, they find funny stuff. Feb 16: The return of Gloatation is about current Harmonian predictions. Par for course glurge. You all know how those go.

I'm mostly pointing to the second post, though. Feb. 18: Everything I Ever Needed to Know About Romance… ...I learned from the Holes thread at Harmony Forever on Valentine's Day! Read and weep over how JKR is destroying the future marriages of our children. It's all very personal and angry, but hands-down, the most hysterical quotation is this:

Flucias: I have often rationalized away the Heron arguments as made by pretty much kids, children who have had no clue as to what love really is. Ah, we can't fault them; they are clueless, having had no real or meaningful experience. It was alarming to discover that quite a few of the people sprouting that rubbish are adults. I shudder to think of the quality of their lives, romantic or otherwise.

I don't want to hope for the ending that I feel is best and which is the only logical conclusion (IMO), because I don't want to get invested in this series again. But at the same time, there is the undeniable fact that Miss Rowling is the mother of two daughters. And not only that, but she is a divorcee. She has experience with a relationship that failed at the highest level (matrimony). For her to put this stuff out there as the final word would not only be utterly irresponsible, but hypocritical as well, and detrimental to her own female children [Not to mention her son! "Like a girl? Then, hey, treat her like crap!"]. If only for the sake of those two girls, I hope that that isn't what she is doing. Because imagine your own mother promoting such a relationship to you as what R/Hr and H/G promotes?

Why do *I* have to do everything??!

Yoinked directly from mousey on wank report:

Still mining the OotP promotional pics for her "visual arguments" against H/G, Anise continues to bring Teh Funneh.

The thread page is thus:
Scroll down to find Anise's latest material! (http://forums.fictionalley.org/park/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123303&perpage=20&highlight=&pagenumber=3)

The particular example is from this:

I'll bet you a skrillion dollars that [film!HBP] won't[be chock full of H/G shippiness]. (What do you mean, that's not a real number??)But here’s why: when we talk about "shippiness," we’re not really talking about the fact that two characters kiss, go for "walks" by the lake, or an in a relationship. We’re really talking about a certain way of interpreting the way in which a relationship is portrayed. And the reason this is the true definition, I think, is that we honestly don’t know how any of the relationships will end in DH. We’ll know once we’ve read the book. After that, shippiness will probably take on yet another definition.

I just "love" how she takes on the responsibility of being the True Arbiter of Shippiness.

By the time HBP comes out, however—-and, in fact, by the time the principal photography really even gets underway—-everyone will know how the series ends, including people who haven’t read any of the books. Old Order Amish living in a cave may avoid knowing the ending, but I doubt that anyone else can. We’ll all know how H/G turns out. And knowing how H/G ends, the way it’s portrayed in HBP will accurately reflect exactly what happened. But it won’t be “shippy,” since “shippiness” in its current definition contains an implied argument that the ship in question will be the final, true, genuine ship. We’ll all know better by then; we’ll know that and why and how it failed. There isn’t going to be much point in squeeing about a kiss once we know that Harry later learned he wasn’t in his right mind at the time. Sorry… well, no, I’m not… but I’m all through pretending that this won’t be the ending of H/G. If I had ten thousand dollars lying around the house, I would happily bet it on a no-H/G ending.

I'd take that bet!

There's more pseudointellectual rambling in the post, as is customary for Anise, and it may be mined for wankage, but I'll just cut to my latest favorite fit of self-aggrandizing posturing:

Ginny’s role has been written differently in the films from canon. There’s absolutely no way to deny that. But this is the reason that understanding authorial control over the films is vital to understanding what’s really happening with H/G. Actually, I honestly think that if everyone had gone to film school and taken a class about film adaptations, we would not even be having these H/G arguments. In fact, why do *I* have to be the only one who does research around here?? Let’s have someone else pick up this challenge—-interview the scriptwriting teacher at your local film school!

All bolded emphasis is mine, of course.

For a bit of insight into the trigger for her latest delusions, she later makes a post with this gem of wisdom for the TRUE determiner of final canon--in fact, she's been beating this horse a lot lately:

Well, I do expect to see scenes in the film that show some kind of interaction between Harry and Ginny; I'm not trying to say that there won't be any, understand. The main thing we know right now that is significant is that we've seen Harry pics, Ron pics, Hermione pics, Harry and Hermione pics, Trio pics, Harry-and-a-character-made-up-for-the film pics, Umbridge pics, Dumbledore pics, group photo of the entire DA pics, Trelawney pics, McGonagall pics, Harry/Cho pics, Snape pics, Sirius pics, Bella pics, Neville pics, Neville-and-his-plant pics, Draco pics, Goyle pics, Luna pics, Harry-and-Luna pics... and no H/G pics. No solo Ginny pics, either. If examples of these two pics come out tomorrow-- as they certainly could-- we would still have seen ALL THESE PICS before seeing them. If these scenes that showed Harry and Ginny interacting in some way were shot (and I do think that they were, although all of them may not have been,) then why NOT release something from them?

HBP? Novel by JK Rowling? Who needs it?!

*squeaks*

And to add to the original wank report from the anonymouse, here's another little gem Anise has added:

I want to see some [pro-HG] arguments that are constructed without violating the most basic rule of logic, or that do not rely on the straw man technique...
*snip*
I'm going to start MAKING UP pro-H/G arguments soon and posting them, to show y'all what I mean.

Heh. Get some popcorn - this oughta be good.

ETA: Although apparently it was HIGHLY significant to the future of H/G that Goyle had a promo picture released but Ginny hasn't (as seen in this post from Anise):

MORE new photos from OotP, more Harry, more Draco, more Goyle, and still NO GINNY and NO H/G!! This is really starting to get ridiculous. I'm starting to honestly think that maybe all of Ginny's book scenes really weren't filmed. I still can't believe that there's no Harry-Ginny interaction of any kind in the film, though, since there actually was some in the book. So that begs the question: why haven't any pics from it been released?

...now that it's been cleared up that the Goyle picture is actually from GoF, suddenly it's not important any more. Thus sayeth Anise:

And I've said it before and I'll say it again... when we're wrong, we admit it. We're building a case for our point of view, namely, that H/G was an awful relationship, and, for a lot of us, that it will not start up again in DH or be the final pairing. Our case is no good unless we ourselves know its strengths and its weaknesses. Actually, if we had to have a weakness, this one is the kind I'd want to have, as it makes no difference one way or the other to the case against H/G if we had a photo of Draco and Goyle from OotP at this point or not. It would have been a nice little extra. (bold mine)

So JKR wrote on a statue or something. Some fans are shocked and appalled at this criminal behavior, but the folks over at Portkey are seeing it as solid evidence of the truth of Harmony.

catwork is deeply moved by JKR's act: I have to say that this (Hermes bust) can not be accidental. When I read that article it gave me goose bumps and a definite saddened feeling for the author and her journey these last ten years as well. It is so poignant that she ended her story and what we believe influenced the author with how it began with well researched symbolism and alchemy.

Jeanas wonders: What would the Heron said about the Hermes bust ?, and October has some theories:

But I doubt the HeRon's will admit to anything than that 1. either it was the only bust in the room, or 2. that it was probably the nearest and most convenient bust on JKR's way out of the hotel suite for the final time.

Jeanas agrees that this is crazy talk: I was searching for a picture of the Hermes bust and was direct at the Leaky Cauldron !
ANd You know WHAT ???

The HERONS are confirming that this is a bust of Hermes but they interpreted it with PERCY. Percy owls is named HERMES. ..........go figure

redshoes spells it out for people who might still be wondering how the fuck this is all related to Harmony: So what could she be telling us besides that she has followed the alchemy framework through to the end?

A nod to Hermes Trismegistus, who started it all?
A hint that we should look at the "Hermes" in the story--who is not of course Percy's owl but our own Hermione?

Well, okay.

BONUS LOLZ: Not directly related to JKR's act of symbolic vandalism, but too good to pass up:

Dentists are alchemists:

redshoes: The Grangers did make an actual appearance in canon (in COS) and are frequently mentioned. The fact that they are both dentists COULD mark them as functioning as alchemists, since dentists work with most of the metals that mark stages of alchemy, as was discussed earlier in the thread.

Blushing = Harmony:

redshoes: [in reference to a GoF scene in which Hermione "flushed pink with pleasure" when Fake!Moody tells her she'd be a great Auror] In the second passage, there are 2 bits of possible alchemical symbolism. Moody's magical eye is one of the candidates we've discussed as an all-seeing eye. It rests on Hermione and perhaps sees her true nature, her destiny--as a person being transformed into gold (Aur-or). Then she flushes pink. What other color could she flush I suppose? On the other hand, pink is used in alchemy to symbolize the joining of red (Harry) and white (Hermione), so that could be the reason JKR included it here.

Harry and Hermione's love will bring the French and the English together:

Salamon2: Granger is found predominately in English and French cultures. It comes from the French: grainger, which originated from the Latin word for Grain.

It's popularity,

while it's not in the top 100 surnames of the UK, it is fairly popular.

It's #492 in France.

More importantly, for me, is it connects Hermione to the Norman French aspects, which have predominately been associated with our Slytherin villains

Rowling's books are so typically British, all the bad guys are French/Norman orignated. You see this pattern in LOTR and TLWH, with the "Frenchification" of England being viewed as a negative. Oh and don't forget Ivanhoe!

Lestrange, Nott, Bulstrode, Malfoy, Gaunt, Crabbe, Goyle, Rosier, Mulciber, etc.

Heck, Riddle even changed his name to sound more "Norman French".

So if Harry were to "marry" his opposite, it would make sense for the reconciliation betweeen English/French, a well known feud between the two, which JKR has shown in her works via the antagonism against Fleur (The pairing could be symbolized slightly with the Bill/Fleur pairing, albiet probably not because William is the name of the first Norman French King of England).

However, the Weasleys in my opinion are the connections to the Welsh/Celtic heritage. Harry the English, and Hermione the French.

Oh Harmony. Keep tilting at those windmills. ♥

Thanks to ikuko for finding this mine of comedy gold.
