Make me stop...please
I'm wanking about bottled water.

Someone stop me.

Forgive me Cleo.

Stop that, right now. Sit on your hands. Turn off the computer. Think about Methos. Think about what [info]anon_3point5 would say! Don't make me come over to Cleo's journal and speak sternly in all caps! :D

Aww, bless. I really wasn't expecting that link to be so controversial, although when she first commented I was thinking, don't people need bottled water in places where it's really icky, like Florida, or the apocalypse?

Ironically, I'm drinking bottled water right now. I'm pretty sure it gave me my last cavity, though, since it's carbonated and apparently that's worse for you than sugar, according to the dentist, but hey.

Did someone there just imply that Turkey is halfway across the world from Israel?

Water from third-world nations were mentioned? O_o I followed the anti-bottled-water link, and there's nothing about that. And the thing about Turkey exporting water to Israel, jeez! Israel is a really dry place and needs to get a lot of its water from desalination plants and (apparently) by importing it. It's not like Israel has usable forms of potable water and are importing water they don't need just because they think bottled-water is chic.

You're right, actually. If the bottle says "spring water" on it, it has to be from a spring and the spring name/location has to be listed on the bottle. <---used to work for a bottled water company once

I just checked my Dasani, and it states that it does indeed contain "filtered water" and makes no claims as to specialness of said water. Which seems to be pretty clear: it must be normal tap water that's filtered. (And with lemon flavor added!)

Also, the only thing I've ever really used Brita filters for is to make cheap vodka smoother.

I’m just remembering when Coca Cola decided to open a water bottling plant in the UK and was producing bottles of tap water, filtered and re-mineralised. They were laughed out of town and country. I don’t think the factory lasted more then six months.

College Station water was so foul that on some days, I debated brushing my teeth in the morning lest I rinse and accidentally swallow the shit. It was like liquid assbutt. In college I picked up a coke* habit I've finally broken. But Houston water was some tasty shit! They need to bottle that and send it up to me in Seattle. Seattle water is alright, but I'd eat a baby for some Houston water.

*I mean the carbonated liquid, not the white powder. I'm originally from the south.

I love my water filtery jug. My tastebuds are deranged, and I can taste the bottle whenever i have bottled water. What the hells.

Also, filtered water makes the best tea ever. *has not had artesian well water tea, so cannot compare, really*

There was a point at which half my college was subsisting on bottled water because there was some strange sort of disease going around, and no one could agree on whether it was the water or the campus fast-food places that were the cause. It turned out to be the water.

It was sort of funny how my college- a little, 1000-student place- went, "Huh? Oh, no one is sick, no one at aaaaaall," when the reporters showed up.

LMAO.

I'm with you on most of it... bottled water generally = fancy tap water, and that's fine as long as it's on the label. and heck, the water where I went to college came from the river that regularly flooded over the local highway so I wouldn't touch that shit unless it went through a brita at minimum, but I mostly got bottles from Costco. That said, now that I've returned to a place with decent tap water, I just refill my nalgene. Plus, as the last commenter said in there, bottled water plastic bottles aren't really meant to be refilled... they pick up all sorts of nasties. I used to go through one per day, refill it as many times as necessary, but toss it at the end. YMMV.

Adding my thoughts on bottled water: I, too, will continue to drink bottled water. At least as long as I'm at school I will. I try to do what I can for the environment, but if I'm going to choose between drinking bottled water and dehydration because I'd rather just drink only soda than gag the tap here down, I'm taking the dang bottled water. Granted, it's better this year than last, but still.
