Okay, so John Solomon of Your Webcomic Is Bad and You Should Feel Bad. I've been snarking at him on the comments of the blog ever since they came out of hiatus, but when he did his latest review on Dresden Codak, he engaged with me when I questioned him calling Kimiko a Mary Sue. And it went on from there,

Is this where I can bitch about Dresden Codak not being as good since it started having a plot?

...Oh, well, I'll show myself out, then.

That's... pretty much what I thought as well. The "Hob" stuff is cumbersome to get around, especially with the masses of exposition.

I HAVE BASICALLY NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON.

*sigh* And it was so awesome before, too.

The worst part is that he's said he'll never go back to the one off strips.

Well, maybe practice will hone his skills. :/

I sort of agree. Before the plot it was kind of incomprehensible without doing some research, now it's just kind of...incomprehensible and not every entertaining. It has moments and I love the art, but the fact that I can't bring myself to be irritated when he fails to update kind of says it all.

I never found it hard to understand; it's just that Diaz has always been on a very specific geek wavelength (that not very many other webcomics share. The nearest I can think of to DC is xkcd, and that's still not very close.)

Now that Diaz has shifted to a storytelling mode, I'm finding it damn near impossible to follow. I'm glad he's improved his page layouts, finally, but it still doesn't help me figure out what the hell is going on, because he apparently sucks at narrative. >:/

Yeah, xkcd I can follow except when it's at the most math geeky. DC I generally had to look stuff up on Wiki or whatnot to understand what was going on. I don't mind a little work for my amusement so that didn't bother me too terribly. But you're right that Diaz is just really bad at telling a story. I like some of the concepts and ideas behind what he's trying to tell, but he's telling it poorly.

I don't have the icon on my JF account, but…
