10:47p - Why yes, we DID just graduate middle school!
Small and full of passive-aggressive instead of the aggressive wankiness we know so well, this is also refreshing because it's the first fandom fight I've been in that I haven't had to referee. Now I get to mock!
I was in Tamora Pierce fandom from the time I was eleven to last summer. That's a hella long time. And this is the first wank I've seen where most of the main players were over 18! That makes it juicier, I think, since the canon is based on Mary Sues with swords and meant to appeal to 'tweens and teens.
Steelsings is a fansite that hosts an RPG and has for about ten years. I used to run it until I quit, and the new management is working the kinks out. Recently they've been having an issue. The RPG is headed up by RP Heads, who are enlightened despots, and mentors, their lackeys in charge of approving applications and generally being helpful and showing leadership skills. Being a mentor is a huge deal, because you have to earn the seniority and approval of most of the other mentors. Given that the club's ambient age is roughly 14, it's a bit of a fight and mentors are often viewed as expressmail from the Cult of Mean, for not letting everyone prance around the roleplay on purple unicorns.
I know (because I put it there) that every thread in a hidden forum where mentors are voted in is topped with the warning, Taking any of this discussion beyond this thread is instant grounds for being removed from the mentor roster or banned from the club, depending on the severity of the breach. When the new RP Head drops a line to ask for advice on enforcing that rule, I poke my head back into the community. I'm largely in here as an observer.
( So here's the story of mentors named Claire who can't read, other mentors named Claire who love them, and their very confused fangirls. )
My fandom doesn't break Snacky's Law. My fandom is Snacky's Law.
