So this is a very long and complicated story. BUT, since I doubt anyone actually cares about that, here's the summary.

Once upon a time, there was an RP game on Livejournal. It was fun. I was promoted to mod there by ankhutenshi, creator and ~~dictator~~ head mod of the game. It was even more fun. However, soon, I started to not like being a mod because I had no power. I was to do the core posts, but had little to no real say in the going ons of the game. I had the mod status simply because I could log into the mod journal. So I quit modding there. Me doing so caused a snowball effect. ankhutenshi said a lot of hateful hurtful things to me, former friend and mod. Likewise, I did some stupid shit, too. So I ended up leaving the game entirely and ignoring she lived.

So the other night, her name spams my f-list with an icon post. In one of them in the Jigoku Shoujo community (a fan comm for an anime series with the same name) she asks for credit for a certain icon. The icon in question, she originally took from me before our fallout. At the time, I had not credited the icon. Several days ago, however, I came across it. So despite better judgment, I commented with this helpful piece of credit info I had.

And was attacked. I knew I should've left it alone right then, but, of course, I didn't.

I ranted about it in my journal and linked it--bad move. My crazy friends--I love them so--decided to WTF at her. However THEN she went way too far with a friend of mine by insulting his gender and sexuality, which causes the post to be linked all over the place and people FLOCK to it to hate on her. Lastly she offers a very insincere apology to me that is practically forced out of her. And the wank is still going, though I've long since stopped caring.

Basically I need to learn to stop commenting at her. I always get dragged into wank when I do.

smart_blonde223 posts a reasonable rant to fanficrants regarding a rather awful example of surprise Transformer buttsex. Her response to the surprise was courteous, the author's response was less so. Lols are had by all.

On the Pokemons community, myuutsuuman posts a video about SSBB tiers, then goes comparing Pokemon tiers to SSBB tiers. The main bit?

While the video's basically regarding Smash Bros. (and parodies using the logic tournament players use), you can apply the same to competitive Pokemon players. Apparently, you become a "noob" or an idiot for not playing a video game that's built around customizing YOUR team with the way YOU want to play. Sure, there's some stupid choices that can be made (like a team of six Water-types or using a Fire-type with only Fire-type moves or having a Pokemon with Thunder, Blizzard, Fire Blast, and Hyper Beam), but really. Am I the only one who thinks the whole "competitive" aspect ruins the point of the games? They're called "games" for a reason; they provide entertainment and are meant to be fun. Not to be treated as a contest of who has the bigger e-peen in battling Pogeymanz.

People agree, disagree, complain about tiers, and fuss. Not major, but a touch wanky.

That my very first post to any wank community is i_wank? I hope not, 'cause I'm not, 'cause it's too amusing.

*cough* Anyway.

In a day that will go down in World of Warcraft history -- at least as far as Moon Guard server is concerned -- the Horde staged an epic retaliatory set of raids on every Alliance capital city at once. Six racial leaders were brought down in 23 minutes (we're all very proud of that 23, you understand *sage nod*), with over a dozen guilds and more than 120 people involved.

As you might expect, the official Moon Guard forums are flooded with threads about the event, the vast majority of them being kudos from both sides for what went down. But of course, this couldn't be wank if it wasn't for one guy who insists on getting butthurt about the entire deal.

Galavis repeatedly informs us all that "It was not an accomplishment".

Why, may you ask? Well, because in Galavis' world, 8PM central time on a Saturday night isn't "peak hours". And we shouldn't be so proud of "[patting ourselves] on the back for waiting til no ones around and then [stealing] from the cookie jar," because apparently peak hours are "[between] 12:00 pm and 4:00pm EST." What follows is ~~four~~ five pages of people telling him to shut the hell up and sit the hell down (including one of his own guildmates), with him gleefully repeating himself and happily refusing to get the point. (ETA: I'm the blood elf rogue named Noishe who poked him first. *cough*)

Small, but tasty in the sense that WoW players really are experts when it comes to grasping at straws while telling the enemy faction just how hard they suck and why.

So, due to my wedding in three years, I joined "The Knot". It's a great website and my fiance and I have gotten a lot of good advice about weddings and budgeting and how not to kill each other on the big day.

We wanted a Browncoat wedding, to embrace our love of Firefly, my family's Asian influences (Granddaddy worked in the Foreign Service) and our love of weird tech. Now, I'm thinking, "I'm Captain of my own Firefly-class! I am only a pretty, pretty princess on the outside!" So, I wanted to try a bit of spiff I found in a book on handfastings: a mock duel.

Here's my post to "The Knot" forums.

My fiance and I are a couple of nerds. He's Wiccan, I'm Oddball Christian, so I picked up a book on handfastings that had tips on Interfaith marriages. While flipping through, I came across the concept of mock abductions and duels. Seeing as our wedding is as much a theatrical production as it is a ceremony of commitment, I was thinking of having a mock duel between the bridal party and the groom's party, in disguise as the villains of our favorite TV series. There will be a warning in the programs and we certainly won't use live steel (no firearms, but that goes without saying). Yet, a few problems have cropped up.

1) My dress will most likely have a hoopskirt/crinoline. I can work around the corset.
2) Fight Choreography could get tricky.
3) Where do we hide the weapons?

Any ideas? Or should I save the duel for the reception and wear a pant suit?

At first, I get a intrigued response. But then, this shows up.

This is a wedding, not some kind of funky theatrical production. It's also a lot of work.

I disagree, having been involved in my mother's Sci-Fi convention wedding and my best friend's perfectly mundane nuptuals. Others point out that "It's her wedding, she should do as she pleases". Others insist it's crazy and in poor taste.

I respond:

I think that, while my family might be surprised, they understand that my fiance and I are oddballs with our own interests. This is symbolic of the fact that neither of us is going to be submitting to anyone but will compromise and be partners and equals, rather than macho man and damsel in distress.

Does this sound more acceptable: the groom comes in, masked and disguised as a bad guy from the show (blue gloves and all, for those who get the reference. I process in like a good girl, but--hey!--who's this schmuck at the altar? I demand to know who he is and where's my boy, three times for symbolic sake. Finally, he removes his gloves and mask, and puts on his Browncoat and the ceremony proceeds as planned.

Is that better?

To those with advice: Thank you. I'm taking copious notes. The reason I'm waiting three years is a) after a six-year engagement, starting my senior year, three more won't kill us and b) it gives us time to save up, plan and do this right.

I wanked about pony colors. Well, sort of? Does bear-baiting count as wanking? I'd expected this sort of response, and yet I still did it. I couldn't help myself? Someone posts an article on Dog Chapman, aka Dog the Bounty Hunter, being caught on tape using racial epithets about his son's black girlfriend. People express outrage, and generally cheer A&E's decision to suspend production of Chapman's show.

Except one Sukie1941, who thinks everyone's being a big ol' meanie head because hey, who hasn't called someone a N*****?

The tapes were PRIVATE! Whether they were decent or not, they were PRIVATE and sold to the highest bidder. Dog did NOT put those tapes on the airways like you suggest!

I have spewed my distaste for the behavior of others to my friends and family, and sometimes it is anger towards my friends and family, several of whom are black. I called my own daughter a tramp when she temporarily left her husband and tiny kids in Australia, took her family's savings, and came to Oregon to meet a construction worker she met on the internet. I could think of a few other words I could have called her, because I was not only angry but devastated.

People get angry, and I think Dog was really angry with his son.

A&E suspended the show before they even heard the tapes.

So this is going in i_wank because I had to put my two cents in. The stupid was just too intense.

In the MMO Maple Story, there are lots of pop culture references. Little nods to anime/TV/movies/books/etc. that geeks tend to get a big kick out of. Sometimes these references are found in character's names, sometimes in the accessories you can dress your pixel person in, sometimes in quotes said by NPCs, and so on and so forth. Common sense would dictate these are harmless parodies of the 'nudge nudge wink wink' variety...

Zap feels differently. Clearly Nexon is 'ripping off' things and must be stopped! Others chime in to help him/her/it compile a list of what the sneaky sneaky company is trying to steal! Voices of reason are mostly ignored.

It all hurt me very much to read. Now it can hurt you too.

It all starts off when Harpsi Fizz pops up in one of peachespig’s posts and everyone starts to get a bit riled up, with the usual pattern of “JKR sucks” – “Oh no you didn’t” – “I can’t understand why you won’t accept my valid criticism” – “ STFU” – “Have at it, cult-heads!”

But things get really ugly when one of Harpsi Fizz’s pals from anti_hg, Sexehsmirk, shows up to defend her. I reply. She replies. We both wank like fiends and manage to bring the venom to a dizzying pinnacle in an already hostile environment.

I call her an emo kid and a spinster. She calls me a frustrated virgin and a flaming cunt. I tell her to seek professional help. She successively calls me a sex-starved teenage girl, a middle-aged woman with the mind of a ten-year old and finally a future single mother (unless I’m infertile). I call her a desperate basketcase, a fat loser and post excerpts of her LJ entries in another thread. She tells me I must not have seen she goes to Columbia, which proves that she’s in fact very smart. I break out the macro, attempt a smear campaign by replying to other posters arguing with her, the thread is frozen, she breaks out the macro, and only a prompt bannination can put a merciful end to our bullshit.

As for me, I'm left feeling very sheepish at having flooded

peachespig's inbox with crap and quite embarrassed to have posted a picture of porcupines having sex in his journal. And for that, I will fully accept a good flogging.

There have been several essays on hp_essays lately that were about How JKR Ruined DH. I was sassy in the comments, which led to many getting frozen in the latest one.

Then the mods made a post about the guidelines, and I (chocolatepot) proceeded to wank alllll over the place. I was replying to every comment. I threw a tantrum and went crazy.

Bonus: I promised inthread never to come back, so you have a flounce - and there's no telling whether I'll hold true to that.

The really ridiculous part of this is that I've only been seriously watching the comm for about two weeks. Before that, I just used newsletters to end up there.

On the sixteenth, professor_mum wrote "A Deathly and Hollow Rant" and posted it to HP_essays. It occurred to me that this was not an essay, merely a list of reasons DH hacked prof_mum off. It seemed like most people were agreeing, which further irritated me, so I posted "Lol completely not an essay" (and I am very, very sorry I did so, I'm sorry, meme!) in response, expecting maybe a little wank in return. (Actually, I'm not sorry, because I made a friend by doing it!) There was some.

A few days later, maryh10000 wrote an essay about why JKR wasn't good enough to Snape, and I disagreed once more. This led to a civil discussion. Possibly because it's an actual essay.

A few days after that, julie_dslv posted a reaction to DH that was mainly negative. This time, I was not the only unhappy person. Nearly everyone who commented before the mod came had something to say about the poster's non-understanding of certain topics. At one point, it looked like some sockpuppeting was going on. I'm still not sure what happened there. Finally, siriaeve froze the threads and left a comment stating that she wanted people to be nice and if there was a problem, email the mods.

I did so, and had a very civil discussion with siriaeve in which I was given the impression that the mods were actually interested in what others had to say on the issue of posting guidelines. We exchanged several emails and all was happy in Chocolatepotland.

Then goddlefrood, another mod, posted what seemed to be a request for discussion on the posting requirements. Remembering how well the email convo had gone, I replied right off the bat. People replied angrily to me, I replied spazzily back. The mod that replied was overly stressed and didn't really help the situation. Wank wank wank.

I care enough to copy them but GOSH, you're a loser for pointing it out!

Relatively small, but big for the fandom.

Several days ago — the fifteenth, to be exact — LJ user tifsuz found a copycat amongst us in Scrubs fandom (specifically, in the JD/Cox section of it). It seems that the Fanfiction.net author "Xce-ntrix," who had a whole slew of stories (all rated M and containing sex scenes, all JD/Cox), was actually copying the stories from other fandoms. (You'll notice, if you click, that she is no longer Xce-ntrix. We'll get to that in a moment.) tifsuz, being a good Fandom Citizen, put an alert out on three LiveJournal communities: jd_cox, scrubs_slash, and scrubsfic.

The first one found was actually an original slash story called Pay Close Attention on AdultFanfiction.net. She called it XceAnything Butt. (At the time, every single one of her titles began with "Xce".) All she did was do a find-and-replace with the character names and shuffle around some lines, maybe adding one or two of her own in. The story was quickly removed from the copy-author's page, but everything else remained up.

And already, I come into the picture (as gixi; it's my writing journal). I started running lines from the other stories through Google. Some of them came up with results, and I notified the original authors. One of the ones I found was a CSI het story found right there on Fanfiction.net; the other was an off-site Firefly het story. Yes, she took the het, too. I guess it's not so surprising that Xce-ntrix's stories started getting a lot of angry reviews. Some were from the original authors, some were from their friends, and some were from Scrubs fandom. Then a fourth original story was found: this one was original slash, too.

Then Xce-ntrix found the scrubs_slash post, changed her name to sexihardworker, removed all but six of the stories, and came to whine at us. A lot.

To the beautiful Chicky, and ..basically the whole world..just whoever put this up for the world to see who i am, in all my greatness.. and suxi-ness..

Her location skipped around a bit, too, going from London to Iraq. Two more stories were taken down. I pretty much figured she was done and that I wouldn't be succumbing to my inner wanker any more, but she reappeared today to call us names and laugh at us because apparently she's very funny. And she's in all three community posts this time. We're all illiterate idiots for our typos and mistakes and we don't know anything about English. She even pointed out that people who haven't seen the masterpiece Little Nicky are sad and tifsuz is a know-it-all and a Smart Allic without a life.

...God, someone stop me before I reply to her again. :[ I hate it when my inner wanker gets out.

General explanations are offered, mostly along the lines of "because sex is fun and it's nearly canon in a few places". But ladypeyton takes it to the next level.

It's fun for humans because of a whole lot of chemistry that robots do not have. It's programmed into our instincts to be fun so that we can reproduce, keeping the race alive...robots reproduce by building a new one out of spare parts.

And lo, for the botsecks fans pour out their wrath upon her. beckyh2112 fires the first volley.

So... The concept that robots might have similar pleasurable methods of intimacy to what humans consider 'sex' is just a little too out there for you?

Because honestly? The "they don't reproduce like organics do!" is the oldest argument in the book. A lot of humans don't use sex for reproduction, either, so when it's already a given that robots don't reproduce like we do, why does that argument always crop up? It does not provide a convincing point of discussion and never particularly has.

ladypeyton counters with her seniority and literature cred, never minding that Transformers is a kid's cartoon/comic that started in the eighties.

I mean, honestly, if you want to write pr0n involving your laptop and your toaster it's none of my business, but don't get offended because people look at you askance. It probably only means that they've read Heinlein or Asimov.

You, quite honestly, don't understand the overlying theme to Robot fiction and that's OK. It's a free internetz. You can anthropomorphize anything you want. OTOH, I can then think that maybe you might have missed the point.

That's what makes the world fair.

Fandom retaliates with their teal deers and their canonical examples of robot lovin'. ladypeyton fails to get it.

I was claiming that age=experience, not wisdom. I would never claim wisdom. It's not wise.

The very basis for the "robot story" way back in Heinlein and Asimov was that they were outside of humanity. They were alien in a way that aliens aren't. Technical where we are organic. Driven by forces that we don't even understand since we are driven by our humanity (which includes sex). It's a typical xenophobe plot, but it's an archetype. To anthropomorphize robots is to destroy that archetype.

That said. Fans will pair anything with anything. They've done it for years. It doesn't matter what the theme of the source material is. It doesn't matter if their pr0n goes against the very moral of the original story. If fans want character A to buttsecks character B they will and no one can stop them.

However, don't be surprised and offended if the people who were paying attention to the theme of the source material quirk their eyebrows at you and think that maybe you might have missed the point, just a little.

Asimov and Heinlein are, indeed, masters of classical SciFi, and I enjoy their work immensely.

However, the "source material" for Transformers was Kaiju and several disparate toy lines spliced into one massive franchise, NOT Heinlein or Asimov. Transformers was a marketing ploy developed to sell toys to pre-pubescent and adolescent boys, NOT to delve into the psycho-socio ramifications of giant alien robots trying to pound the snot out of each other on our planet. Much of the plotting for the original show was designed to anthropomorphize the characters to make them more appealing to their target audience, in fact. The only reason the characters were robots to begin with had nothing to do with Heinlein, Asimov, or the associated archetypal plots developed in the 60's and 70's, but because Giant Robots Are Cool, especially to Little Boys.

I poke my nose in there a bit to add to the argument of "sex is fun" and banter with apathocles, and eventually ladypeyton yields to superior Serious Business skillz.

You have taken this entire discussion to a level of SRS that it was never intended. If you read through my discussion with beckyh2112 you'll see that we were debating to pass the time. Not to ultimately prove one way or the other whether or not fictional characters *would actually* have sex.

Of course they wouldn't ACTUALLY have sex. They're not real. Just like Harry Potter and Ginny Weasely wouldn't actually have sex or (my favorite and my fandom) Spike and Buffy wouldn't actually have sex due to their fictional nature.

There is no proving the concept one way or the other. There is just wank.

And since my workday is now over I'm bowing out of the argument. Please feel free to consider me trounced most suitably. I don't mind at all. I was obviously an ebol nonbeliever that was bested by Transformers Canon.

So... I reported a wank on clairvoyant wank here, sat back and laughed and didn't get involved. This worked.... until a separate wank started (I know, toeing the line here). This wasn't about the recent casting on Supernatural, but rather the possibility of Dean dying on the show. Oh, the shame. I really just couldn't stop myself from answering this person. I couldn't think beyond the "uh what?" and posted, inciting the flames of fury. Here's the specific thread in full:

Some Highlights from this Program of Shame

This sad little wank starts when killingher_time randomly posts on the above mentioned wank that people should stop worrying about the new cast additions (whose roles, according to her, are "set in stone" on the show from now on) and worry about whether or not Dean is going to live. User dementedjen (who, yes, I admit is on my f-list. I freely admit this. I unfortunately only have my internet-honor-which-can't-prove-a-damn-thing that I got into this without her pointing it out to me or telling me about it) takes... erm, poorly to this, since she can't understand why this would be a concern to viewers of the show. killingher_time is upset that dementedjen is "twisting her words around." As seen by this quote: "Let's not twist my words alright. We have couple of spoilers out so how the hell do you or me or anyone know who's going to kill Dean...it could happen."

And we're off. Opinions and wanky language go back and forth. I try to resist the temptation to try and clarify the opinion that Dean won't die (I know, pointless), but fail.

Me: "No offense to you personally, but I'd say it is pretty much a guarantee that Dean will not die permanently. Considering that unless Jensen opts out of his 5 year contract somehow, something horrendous happens to him in real life, or the show doesn't get a 4th season, Dean is staying on the show. I don't think you have to worry about that. The tension from this 3rd season comes from how he's going to avoid death, not if."

And was only telling her to not put words in my mouth (how's that a personal attack) because if you re-read what her and I have said to one another you'll notice the words she put in my mouth too."

I replied that I was talking about how she replied with a snarky: "You seem to argue with all around here that you come in contact with and is in opposition to what alot of say. I kinda don't get you." to a comment.

I don't see anything notable (in real life) about CC, but apparently some people do and some people don't. When I went over to look at the discussions in Wikipedia about the possible bahleetion of her articles, I was surprised that there wasn't anything there, so I voted for deletion. See the AfD page for all of this.

Apparently if I'm a wanka, this means I'm ineligible to vote at Wikipedia, and could even be banned! ZOMG!!!!!1 This came as news to me. I thought most of the votes in AfD came from lobbying one way or the other.

So says VivianDarkbloom, who may be a sockpuppet, as he/she/it/whatever has not put anything in Wikipedia between 31 October 2006 and 26 August 2007. No, I'll upgrade that to "self confessed sock puppet", as VD admits to being just such a sockpuppet at VD's userpage.

Anyhow, soon after this, Edison weighs in to say that CC is indeed a NYT bestseller. If this is true, then I will change my vote to "keep" rather than "delete". Unfortunately, the current NYT bestseller list has never heard of Cassie, at least not in Hardcover Fiction or Paperback Fiction, so I asked Edison about this at Edison's talk page - I was pointed to this page where the book "City Bones" features at #8 in Children's Chapter Books on 22 April 2007. To my mind, that's not notable - only Hardcover or Paperback makes an author notable on first appearance.

And I never thought I'd be confessing at i_wank.

ETA: Mother always told me if I couldn't say anything nice, not to say anything at all. However, VivianDarkbloom's mother didn't offer this advice, so VD has been banned from Wikipedia for 48 hours for violating the "No Personal Attacks" and "Civility" rules. Of course, as VD is a sockpuppet account anyway, the impact will probably be minimal...

A few days ago the lovely reebear drew my attention to a wanky article by Dominick, a man with Important Opinions To Share on the subject of Harry Potter porn. Cue eyerolling.

In fairly short order, Dominick showed up on reebear's post. He caught me with my pants down, it seems. What can I say? I let him provoke me. I'm going to go wash off all this spooge now. Enjoy.

First day on the ol' friends page, no less. And look what I go and do.

It starts with ladyartemisa bitching about all those damn kids on her lawn...i.e. asking that eternal question: "Why is it that the younger generation is so much suckier than mine?"

Thus prompted, Booju attempts to figure this one out.

First up, ms_mindfuck, who is pretty sure this is only a problem for white collar jobs, as everybody knows that waitresses and retail workers are never entitlement bitches.

I react, um, poorly, to that.

...especially if said "friend" is a verbose rockstar in need of a better internal editor. Or something like that.

(In i_wank because my alter-ego has been all involved and headdesking in this for days now.)

This little tale of music-fandom woe begins immediately following the May 30th Police concert in Vancouver. Only the third show of the tour (well, technically SECOND if you don't count the fanclub warmup), and things didn't quite go so smoothly. At least not according to drummer Stewart Copeland, who logs into his messageboard the following morning with a hilarious report on Our first disaster gig! He's not so much angry as amused, and perhaps a bit apologetic to those who were in attendance.

“Whenever you’re ready Mr. Copeland” says Charlie, the production manager, as two crew members hold aside the giant gong, creating just enough space for me to slither onto my percussion stage, which is still down in its pit. I leap on board but my foot catches something and I sprawl into the arena in a jumble as the little stage starts to rise into view. Never mind. The audience is screaming with anticipation as I collect myself in the dark and start to warm, up the gong with a few gentle taps. But I’m overdoing it. It’s resonating and reaching it’s crescendo before the stage has fully reached its position. Sort of like a premature ejaculation. There’s nothing for it so I take a big swing for the big hit. Problem is, I’m just fractionally too far away and the beater misses the sweet spot and the big pompous opening to the show is a damp squib. Never mind.

I stride manfully to my drums. Andy has started the opening guitar riff to MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE and the crowd is going nuts. Problem is, I missed hearing him start. Is he on the first time around or the second? I look over at Sting and he’s not much help, his cue is me – and I’m lost. Never mind. “Crack!” on the snare and I’m in, so Sting starts singing. Problem is, he heard my crack as two in the bar, but it was actually four – so we are half a bar out of sync with each other. Andy is in Idaho.

Well we are professionals so we soon get sorted, but the groove is eluding us. We crash through MESSAGE and then go strait into SYNCHRONICITY. But there is just something wrong. We just can’t get on the good foot. We shamble through the song and hit the big ending. Last night Sting did a big leap for the cut-off hit, and he makes the same move tonight, but he gets the footwork just a little bit wrong and doesn’t quite achieve lift-off. The mighty Sting momentarily looks like a petulant pansy instead of the god of rock. Never Mind. Next song is going to be great...

But it isn’t. We get to the end of the first verse and I snap into the chorus groove – and Sting doesn’t. He’s still in the verse. We’ll have to listen to the tapes tomorrow to see who screwed up, but we are so off kilter that Sting counts us in to begin the song again. This is ubeLIEVably lame. We are the mighty Police and we are totally at sea.

And so it goes, for song after song. All I can think about is how Dietmar is going to string us up. In rehearsal this afternoon we changed the keys of EVERY LITTLE THING and DON’T STAND SO CLOSE so needless to say Andy and Sting are now on-stage in front of twenty thousand fans playing avant-garde twelve-tone hodgepodges of both tunes. Lost, lost, lost. I also changed my part for DON’T STAND and it’s actually working quite well but there is a dissonant noise coming from my two colleagues. In WALKING/FOOTSTEPS, I worked out a cool rhythm change for the rock-a-billy guitar solo, but now I make a complete hash of it – by playing it in the wrong part of the song. It’s not sounding so cool.

It usually takes about four or five shows in a tour before you get to the disaster gig. But we’re The Police so we are a little ahead of schedule. It’s only the second show (not counting the fan gig – 4,000 people doesn’t count as a gig in the Police scale of things).
When we meet up back-stage for the first time after the set and before the encores, we fall into each other’s arms laughing hysterically. Above our heads, the crowd is making so much noise that we can’t talk. We just shake our heads ruefully and head back up the stairs to the stage. Funny thing is, we are enjoying ourselves anyway. Screw it, it’s only music. What are you gonna do? But maybe it’s time to get out of Vancouver...

Everyone offers cuddles and commiseration in the comments, and all seems fine in the world of Copelandia until someone notices that Reuters/Yahoo news has picked up the "story"--complete with headline Police drummer rips band's "lame" concert and for a while it's even the top story on yahoo news uk.

Ooops.

Next thing you know, the damned story is everywhere. Reporters seem particularly fond of the "Petulant Pansy" remark in regards to Sting's failed leaping about, but also decide to start making up remarks like "we're shit" or claims that Copeland predicted more problems as the tour continues that weren't even in the blog to begin with.

Suddenly, even folks who were at the concert and had a good time start writing letters to the newspaper demanding a free concert to make up for the "lame gig"--which of course they only realized was so lame after Stewart called it as much.

"Stewart, if it is so important for you to let us know how crappy your performance was against your high standards, I look forward to the band's return, once you've gotten your act together.

I'll keep an eye out on my post box for that new set of tickets for a good show, so I can feel like I got something close to my $500 worth."

Fans wank and whine some more, and of course there's the obligatory leave if you don't like it! post against anyone who dares agree with any criticism of the band and that night's performance.

Meanwhile, HARP magazine decides not to pick on Stewart so much as to point and laugh at us fans on the messageboard who are cheesed off about the whole thing and worried how this could affect Stew's interaction on the board in the future...

"Incidentally, following Copeland’s post, a number of media outlets picked up the story and published some of the drummer’s comments, which in turn let to a public outpouring of hand-wringing among Police fans who frequent his forum. The prevailing sentiment was that said media outlets—which, now, presumably, includes HARP—shouldn’t have printed comments that were not uttered in public or for the public record. (Several people also expressed concern that in the future Copeland wouldn’t be quite so verbose; fat chance there, not with his track record.) Memo to planet: Internet postings you make to a public forum are on the public record. Friends don’t let friends hit the “send” button... etcetera."

No one's sure exactly if it was just an honest misguided posting that blew up out of proportion (generating so much traffic to the site it's going down for upgrades and maintenance soon), or a cleverly planned publicity stunt geared to stir up interest and boost ticket sales. In either event, we can rest assured that the band at least has hugged and made up. If you can believe anything in the press, that is...
