    First Springkink request...
    http://community.livejournal.com/springkink/1017558.html

Also the first time I've gotten fanart for a prompt!

....Between this and the ow hurty I can't believe you made me feel bad for Kanda Yuu gutpunch of Chapter 188, I actually want to write Yullen hurt/comfort fic.

Also also: tequila, you are my mortal enemy. I didn't even order that fucking margarita. I didn't even drink most of it. I had one damned sip. So why is it me, and not the husband who ordered it, drank it all, and spent the rest of dinner sucking the flavor off the ice, who has the goddamned tongue-shaving, woolly-headed hangover? I am beginning to think that margaritas constitute a form of chemical warfare.

    Short Form Reaction:  Oh, KANDA!

    Slightly Longer Reaction:
Oh, Hoshino-sensei, that was even more breathtakingly vicious than I had anticipated. And I knew it was going to be something utterly vicious.

    Some things NEVER get old.
Somebody connected my maiden (writing) name with my married (usually non-writing) name -- and then they tracked me down to Facebook and left a note about how much they enjoyed Dark Ages Clan Novel Brujah and Dark Ages Clan Novel Tzimisce. These books came out in 2003 and 2004 respectively.

Ahhhh, I love leaving lasting impressions.

    WoW: The Comic Book #24
    * Okay, while Med'an is pretty much the Suiest Sue That Ever Sued Suishly, what with the weird hybrid vigor enabling him to wield three different types of magic more or less simultaneously, he could be a lot more objectionable than he actually is, personality-wise. Really, he's rather a sweet kid and thankfully does not suffer from oh noes, I am the Chosen One wangst to any noticeable degree. I cannot express in words alone how much I appreciate that.

    * On the other hand: holy crap, Blizz, WildStorm, you continue to fail epically at the whole 'romance' thing. "You see, son, while Sargeras was distracted, I fathered you!" Because apparently Garona had nothing to say on the matter or anything to do beyond provide a convenient receptacle for the fetal future savior of Azeroth. And that's not even getting into the supreme squick that is Garona's conception -- repeatedly referred to as being 'bred on' Vindicator Maraad's captive sister by one of Gul'dan's warriors or otherwise a product of a 'breeding experiment.' Way to gloss over what was no doubt an experience entirely lacking in charm for Maraad's TOTALLY UNNAMED SISTER. You'd fucking think that he might mention, "BTW, Garona, your mother, [insert name here], was my sister..." BLIZZ, YOU REALLY NEED TO GET BETTER ABOUT GIVING YOUR DISPOSABLE MOTHER-FIGURES ACTUAL NAMES, AT LEAST.

    * On the other hand, Vindicator Maraad is pretty much the epitome of what I imagine a Holy aspected paladin to be: kind, compassionate, seeking to rescue his niece from the horrors inflicted on her without any bitterness or anger towards her over his sister's fate, protective of his niece and great-nephew as his remaining family, and yet totally fucking BADASS. Still-a-holy-paladin-at-heart-unholy-death-knight!Solivar has a little halo of heartmarks and flowers floating over his head for Maraad.

    * I stand by my assessment that Theramore is likely to become the neutral third questing hub once Cataclysm hits.

    Wrong So Wrong
...[info - community] kink_bingo's November mini-round card for my username's letter has a Bingo line that goes bruises/bitemarks -> gags -> plushies/furries. Is it wrong that the first thing to leap to mind was Asric, Jadaar, comedic misadventures, Jadaar's ardent desire for Asric to stfu in the middle of something entirely non-comedic, and the unexpected discovery of a gobbling murloc plushie in the bottom of someone's backpack?

    PSA: Raid For the Cure
    http://thebigbearbutt.com/2009/11/02/announcement-world-of-warcraft-raid-for-the-cure/

On October 28h of 2009, Julie, a member of the World of Warcraft guild Sidhe Devils on Kael’thas (US), revealed to us that she had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Her first treatment is scheduled to begin on November 9th.

To show our support and love for Julie while she takes on this new challenge, her friends in Sidhe Devils are organizing an event within the game of World of Warcraft that we’re calling the Raid for the Cure.

    What it is

On Kael’thas (US), a united cross-faction walk across Azeroth will be held on Saturday, November 14th, starting at 2:00 PM Central Time (Kael’thas-US server time).

Members of both Alliance and Horde factions are invited to attend. Pink Mageweave Shirts will be handed out for all walkers, and all levels of characters will be welcome. If you’d like, bring your own shirt, or even make it a formal affair with your Festive Pink Dress!

The walk across Azeroth will not be a race of individuals, it will be a group march to show Julie our love and support.

We do want to help spread the word, and encourage donations in a cheerful way to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity, an organization that promotes information and awareness on early detection and treatment of breast cancer, and that supports funding for treatment and research towards a cure.

This year's holiday charity: Hearts, Hands, and Voices - Azeroth United
    http://www.azerothunited.com/hhv/

Our goal is to join together the voices of all of Azeroth in an effort bring attention to Child’s Play, and to and create a joint contribution of at least $5,000 to this worthwhile cause!

Frankly, your humble authoress believes the WoW community can easily quintuple the target donation goal.

For the record, this is Child's Play:

Since 2003, over 100,000 gamers worldwide have banded together through Child’s Play, a community based charity grown and nurtured from the game culture and industry. Over 3.5 million dollars in donations of toys, games, books and cash for sick kids in children’s hospitals across North America and the world have been collected since our inception.

This year, we have continued expanding across the country and the globe. With around 60 partner hospitals and more arriving every month, you can be sure to find one from the map above that needs your help! You can choose to purchase requested items from their online retailer wish lists, or make a cash donation that helps out Child’s Play hospitals everywhere. Any items purchased through Amazon will be shipped directly to your hospital of choice, so please be sure to select their shipping address rather than your own.

When gamers give back, it makes a difference!

    Wank writeup here.

At the fanfic/RP peer criticism community in general. Based on true events.
I know fiction/roleplay does not equal real life as much as the next ranter who'll point that out; But it does tend to grate to see it come up day in day out, especially for me as a writer who's always aware of their own personal limits. So I know fiction can be a lot different from my life for example, but as if I have to pretend my writing exists in a vacuum and I don't put my own thoughts and feelings into it.

Other people may find it easy to write angst, even happy to do it. I can't because I find it hard to deal with emotions. Sounds fair, right? But I still feel vulnerable to say it on the internet.

A saying like "I feel what my characters feel" would be accepted for a published author, a few years ago at least. The internet makes people suspicious of people in fandom, creating the image of the crazy fan lurking around and willing to unleash their innermost perverted fantasies. But while you as a fan might say "I'm not like that", you forget that we ARE all the same archetype to those who are prejudiced against fanfiction. Other writers won't admit self-insert (which can come in many different ways IMO), because they deliberately create or use characters to avoid "Mary Sue". In that case, good on you that you've worked hard to make your character solid, if you know you didn't write a self insert, you know you didn't. I don't know why it's sacred to make out that you aren't your character.

You know what? I've cried to people I've RPed with, I've told secrets to people I've RPed with, I've referred to them by their avatar, I've shared thoughts about parts I haven't written that were still imprinted in my mind, often not canonical or out of their current settings. I'm "One of those people", if you ever need to attach a nickname to the image, and people mostly still respect me. Because I'm like every other writer, in all other respects.

Now, off to screencap the comments before they're all baleeted too.

    Hey! Remember this?
    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/13/us/13judge.html

Long Story Short: After one plucky girl and her family yell "BULLSHIT!", two judges from Luzerne County, PA, plead guilty to accepting a completely staggering amount of money in bribes while funneling juvenile offenders into a for-profit juvenile detention center.

    Today justice was finally done:

    http://www.philly.com/philly/news/homepage/20091030_Pa__high_court_tosses__tainted__juvenile_cases.html

    Money Quote:

In an unprecedented move, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court yesterday tossed out thousands of juvenile court cases that were "tainted" by an alleged kickback scheme involving a former Luzerne County judge.

The order affects an estimated 6,500 cases handled by then-Judge Mark A. Ciavarella from 2003 through mid-2008. Only about 100 remain eligible to be retried, and those final cases also could end up being thrown out if the Luzerne County district attorney decides not to proceed.

    Better late than never.

Just a quick note for y'all.

My computers are like little vaults of mystery and wonders, in that I rarely remember what I did on them from hour to hour, possibly due to the fact I don't often do this thing called 'sleeping' you humans are so fond of.

Once in a while, while delving for a particular file, i will come across astounding things!

This is a long way to say, 'wtf, why are there 76 babysitter's club .lit files on my computer?'

    Interesting Link of the AM
Courtesy of <lj user="inkstone">, here's a special guest Dear Author column:

    http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2009/10/27/a-special-guest-post-on-cultural-appropriation-by-handyhunter/

The post itself is interesting as is the comment thread which, while not precisely devoid of fail and cluelessness, nonetheless has a number of good observations about writerly issues, particularly one of my personal bugaboos: writing what you know. "Write what you know" is one of the first pieces of advice most young writers get and a large percentage of no longer young and sometimes very experienced writers never move beyond it for whatever reason -- lack of comfort with certain subjects; unwillingness to step outside their comfort zone; lack of confidence in their ability to adequately research another culture well enough to successfully portray a resident of that culture; the list goes on. "Write what you know" was, in college, the absolute bane of my existence because my creative writing professor wanted us to exclusively "write what we knew" while incorporating certain set modern fiction tropes/conventions and I emphatically did not wish to write what I knew (which, at that point, was how to go about being a painfully awkward social outcast with interests other people considered weird, almost no real friends, and a pathological dislike of talking about myself instilled by relentless high school level personal mockery) because who the Hell wants to spend their first college creative writing course rehashing high school social traumas? Not me, that's who. It was about this time that I started formulating my personal belief that the vast majority, if not all, of modern/postmodern non-genre fiction consists of pseudo-intellectual navel gazing ego wank better addressed to a psychiatrist than a literary agent. And then I made it my personal mission to force the English Department of my tiny northeastern liberal all-women's college to read a perfectly ridiculous amount of scholarly genre fictional analysis and give me really good grades for it. Because sometimes stepping out of your narrow frame of academic/personal reference is a good thing that can teach you a great many things.

WoW: I am SO down with this.
    http://snarkcraft.wordpress.com/2009/10/27/guest-post-ez-wow-solutions-for-the-e-peen-generation

    Money Quote:

I am a pleb and proud of it. I call upon plebs everywhere to rise up and defend their right to have epic gear and participate in raids they are paying for the development of. Yes, entry level raid content is easier than it was, but this is our right as paying players! No the game is not easier because most players still have never even seen Algalon yet, and hes the end boss of the previous tier! No they are not welfare epics because every player who has an epic item has to suffer through the complaints of the epeen brigade and that is payment enough!

This. My fucking gods, THIS. If I never have to bite my fingers while watching another bunch of whiny, titty-baby, not-as-leet-as-they-wanna-be wankers cluttering Trade with their endless, obnoxious, oh-so-hard-put-upon pissing and moaning about how WoW is too easy and welfare epics and five-man end-game raids suck IT WILL BE TOO GODDAMN SOON. Between that and the incessant Anal [Whatever] jokes that have taken the place of Chuck Norris, I have on more than one occasion wished I could flip my flag and go on a murderous rampage against my own faction. Look, wanker, it's like this: I pay for this fucking game, too. I want to see the end-game content that I, just like you, fucking pay for, too. Like the vast majority of WoW players, I possess a life outside the game and commitments on my real life time that generally preclude raiding seven fucking days a week, eight hours a night, and I do not even KNOW twenty-five whole people on ANY of my toons. Five-and-ten-man instancing plus a place you can go to acquire spiff epic gear with a reasonable time commitment once you're at level cap? THIS IS THE BEST FUCKING IMPROVEMENT TO CONTENT ACCESS THAT WOW COULD HAVE EVER HAD. Seriously, HOW many people ACTUALLY look back fondly on forty-man raids? How about WIPING on forty-man raids that took three hours to assemble in the first damn place? How many people playing this game have never gotten a chance to get inside a high-level instance at all? How many people have never had a chance to go toe-to-toe with an end-game raid boss? How many people wanted to but couldn't because they weren't "hardcore" enough to please the Keepers of Leetness, the high-pressure raid guilds? That's some fucking bullshit right there, where people who pay to play just like everyone else can be effectively locked out of playing the content their monthly fees go to help provide by some poorly socialized wanker with no life and a gigantic e-dick. I will be a sad, sad tankadin if Blizz gives in to the wankers and removes this advancement from Cataclysm.

Furthermore, gear score is a fucking blight upon WoW and I hope whatever pale computer larva decided that reducing a player to a number they could be judged by is hit repeatedly in the nuts with the Clue Bat. It's completely out of control everywhere I go -- even Wyrmrest freaking Accord, Bright Savior of the RP World. Somebody posted the other day about an experience she had attempting to pug Underbog only to be kicked from the group because she had insufficient gear score and achievements for an instance she was trying to do AT LEVEL. It has passed the point of unfunny joke and moved directly into Lovecraftian madness.

    BOY THAT FELT GOOD.

Anyway, now that I've ranted, how's about some recent pics?

In which Ashatha admires the scenery, Solivar looks admirably badass, and Sathdralan tries not to be eaten by Nerubians while emoing over the ruins of his childhood home: )

    Money Quote:

    In a
more recent take on men playing women in video games, the author makes some broad generalizations, including that men like watching their lithe female avatars from behind, or that "a man would want to play a female character is often evidence enough for many in the online community to label someone a homosexual."

...Okay, correct me if I'm wrong but...wouldn't a gay man playing a gay male character make far, far more sense than a gay man genderbending?

Speaking strictly for myself, as a bisexual woman with equal numbers of male and female toons, I feel that I can enjoy looking at just about every ass in the game. Except the human male and nelf male asses which look rather too traumatically like the old He-Man figurines for my taste.
