12:58p - The "Why Do You Make the Baby Roland Cry?" Doctrine:
Let it be resolved that:
Anyone referring to Barthes -- or the concept of the "death of the author" in particular -- in defense of shipwankery shall be locked in a small room with no less than one dozen rabid literature majors.
Revision #1: Let the above text be amended so as to include Comparative Literature and/or Philosophy majors under the category of "literature majors" above, if it is also the case that said Philosophy majors have sufficient background in Critical Theory.
Revision #2: "Literature major" is to be replaced with "any individual with an academic background encompassing familiarity with the work of Barthes, including, but not limited to, persons majoring in or having majored in Literature, Comparative Literature, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, Film and Visual Culture, Women's Studies, LGBT Studies, English and/or related fields.
(We should also probably develop a corollary or sentencing enhancement in honor of Ishtar79...any suggestions?)
