The Fallacy of Contradictory Qualifiers

  • When the word "but" is added to a self-describing statement, (examples:  I'm not racist, BUT... or I'm not a homophobe, BUT... or I believe in free speech, BUT... or I'm not writing a Mary-Sue, BUT...) it immediately serves to reverse intended meaning of that statement.
  • Thus, you are not what you say your are, or you are what you claim you aren't.

 

(Useful law to invoke when shattering self-delusions.)
