The Anti-Phoenix Articles
Article the First: Any law written by phoenix is, by definition, very silly and doesn't actually apply to anything.

Article the Second: Ditto his replies.

Article the Third: It is useless to argue with phoenix. Such activity should be left to one's cat.

Article the Fourth: If you don't have a cat, you can borrow mine.

[ETA: I'm passing your oohs and ahhs along to Nessa. She's a very sweet Calico. From my vague understanding of cat breeds, only females have the three colors like she does. I found her at the shelter as a youngish-adult so I don't know how old she is. She likes crawling all over my computer and my desk but doesn't like the keyboard, so I usually have to dump her butt directly on the keyboard for her to type her response. It took some persuading to get her to pose for the photo! ]

My dog would have buttsex with it. No really, he would. He's into that kind of thing, buttsex with cats. Preferably male cats.

What is this, the cat dating service?

It is almost true about the calico males thing. 99.5% of calico cats are females (it's to do with colour only being passed on through the X alleles, females with their double X have more variation) so males are quite rare.

Awwww! What a cute kitty!

Of course, Ashcroft would want to burn you at the stake as a witch.

Or hang you up and have a million swords of hate stab you.

John Aschcroft, U.S. Attorney General, head of the Justice Department, who wants even more power to U.S. citizens, has dragged his ass looking into who leaked that the former ambassador's wife as a CIA operative, a fundmentalist Christian conservative who seriously believes calico cats are agents of the Devil, and all-around scary fucker.

If I could have one member of the Bush administration wake up all dead one morning, it'd be a hard choice between him and Dubya.

who seriously believes calico cats are agents of the Devil

As a long-time cat owner, I can confidently state that all cats are agents of the Devil, regardless of markings.

Please, tell me you're joking.

No, on second thoughts, please don't tell me anything at all. I'll just be over here, curled up into a little ball and denying the scariness of reality.

John Ashcroft is one of the villagers who wanted to get to Dios? Why am I not surprised?

Oh, well, as long as she gets the big red floofy dress and the hot pink-haired girlfriend, I suppose it could be worse.

Drive-By Genetics

To follow up on the excellent observations of [info]hugsnkisses</i>:

The vast majority of calico cats are female because fur coloring in cats is carried on the X chromosome; to possess three different fur colors, a cat needs to possess two X chromosomes. Male calicos are possible but rare, because they have to have an XXY genotype (three sex chromosomes, two X and a Y); this sex-chromosome abnormality generally makes them sterile and causes other developmental difficulties. (Klinefelter syndrome, the equivalent abnormality in humans, tends to lead to mental retardation, but I don't know if the same thing holds true for cats.)

And now, I slink back into the night from whence I came.

Seeing as we're talking cats, a pointless fact: In Britain, we call this colour a tortoiseshell, and everybody worships the devil. She's gorgeous. She looks just like my old cat, Polly. For that alone, you win any wank that's going. And also, you get devil worshipping coupons.

It's hard for me to think of it as tortoiseshell. I have a tortie-point short hair. Her ears and feet are much more grayish.

Interesting. We always considered tortoishell cats the sort of brindled or 'swirled' black/orange (or blue/cream) color with little or no white, while a cat with large distinct patches or blocks or black, orange and white is a calico.
