The "What About the Mens?" Fallacy
Forgive me if there is already a law like this in place. I searched and could not find.

In any case, this "phallusy"1 fallacy4 is as follows:
In any discussion focusing on women's2 issues, the probability that someone will come around and say "men are [fill the blank], too!"3 approaches 1 the longer the discussion gets.

Can be used with marlo's corollary:
If someone posts something containing or alluding to the word "rape" somewhere on the internet, THERE WILL BE WANK.

1 Credit goes to [info]donnaidh_sidhe for the word. I'd also like to thank her for the help on the definition.

2 May be applied to any disadvantaged group, simply replace "women" with said group and "men" with the applicable privileged group.

3 Bonus points for discussion on rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, and abuse.

4 ETA 10.28.2011: At the request of [info]donnaidh_sidhe I have changed "phallusy" to "fallacy". She pointed out, and I agree with her, that people were focusing too much on the snarky pun and not enough on the actual content of the message. ETA 12.02.2011: [info]donnaidh_sidhe asked me to post the following clarifying statement: "Derailing is a constant irritant when it comes to online discussions centring on social justice issues, and I have no patience for those who have such arrogance and such disrespect that they would hijack a discussion to centre the attention it gathers on their own, different cause. This said, it is not appropriate or constructive for me to make a snide swipe at the people who do it. It is better to call someone out on disrespectful and disingenuous rhetorical tactics than to make a gratuitous penis joke at their expense."

NOTE 12.04.08: Due to the large influx of spam, I have changed the settings to screen all anonymous comments. I apologize if this causes your comment to be left screened for a long amount of time.

You might want to specify that the probability approaches 1 longer the discussion gets.

Your use of the word "Phallusy" is sexist and demeaning. If you think I'm joking, I'm not.

Just because you consider men 'privileged' doesn't give you the right to insult them.

Funny that on a discussion of privilege, and of sexism, someone would claim that some form of injustice is being perpetrated against men. Oh wait, no it's not, it's just normal.

"Phallusy" is an insult? It's a pun. It's a clever pun! In no part of this post does it make any stereotype or generelization about all men (or other privileged group) in any way. It simply states that it is too common in discussions about underprivileged groups that eventually someone will say "X happens to men (or other group) too", as if to trivialize the issue.

Yes, these types of jabs are incredibly juvenile.

"Phallasy" in place of fallacy is petty and spiteful. It just shows this isn't really academic or meant to encourage a serious discussion about these issues. Note: this whole idea is actually lifted from Godwin's Law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law) without giving any acknowledgment. Fail.

I agree.

Every qualifier and explanatory statement about the intrusion of men on this site is further proof that women steeped in feminism (and it's scholarly dissection) are simply perpetuating the segrating behaviour that they point out as unacceptable when exhibited by a male.
