Considering the time frame of his entry into gaming, yeah that makes sense as the MMO didn't really start to become a strong fixture in gaming until 1999 with EQ (not that EQ was necessarily the first, as I don't know gaming history that well, but it certainly was a game changer).

But you'd think that a few hours playing or even messing around on the game's forums would serve as a clue. The article's tone rubs me the wrong way, as he was likely a single server infamous douche, not a game-wide hated figure. It's just dumb all around, like most reporting on gaming.

According to him, he started playing CoH when it came out in 2004. Until he started griefing in 2006, he was a respected player who was invited to join several guilds. So... yeah. He knew how the place worked, he was good at playing within the social rules, and yet somehow, mysteriously, he had no idea what would happen if he started deliberately breaking rules.

Ugh. I take back my theory, then.

Most of my initial post was torn to shreds by his paper. The man's not a perpetual noob, he's a social scientist without the social skills to comprehend the data he collects.
