The true structure of Anonymous.
Over at the good old newsgroup alt.religion.scientology, someone posts their brilliant analysis of the insidious organization that is Anonymous. (Source link here, Enturb forum thread here.)

---

At the top you have the agents of the mainstream psychotherapeutical/psychopharmacology industry (whose livelihoods are threatened by the relative cheapness and effectiveness of the Scientological alternatives) feeding ideas and money to:

A small group of former Scientologists who were kicked out of the organization because they were complete assholes. These are the visible leaders of 'Anonymous'. But they wouldn't be able to do what they do without the above agents funding their websites and such.

At the bottom you have the trolls, the general membership, anxious to take their abusive ways out into the real world. But they just can't do it the way they do it on the Internet. If they start walking up to people and abusing them like they do on the Internet they'll spend most of their lives in the hospital and in jail.

So they need to band together for protection and power, but even that isn't enough. They still won't be able to get away with randomly abusing people in gangs, wearing masks, which is what they'd really like to do.

They need a cover. Camouflage. They need to seem to be involved in some kind of worthwhile activity, like destroying a Great Evil.

And so the expelled Scientologists with personal grudges, financed by the mainstream psychotherapy/psychopharmaceutical industries, have given them the camouflage they need.

They can now take their abuse and hatred into the real world without being promptly beaten up and jailed.

At least for a while. But they can't hide what they really are, and don't even seem to be aware that they should try, judging from the posts on this group.

But the people using them don't care what happens to them. They will sacrifice as many pawns as it takes to accomplish their ends.

And you have the brilliant strategists at the Church of Scientology turning the whole thing to their advantage, baiting the trolls in certain ways to gain the maximum amount of free publicity for the CoS.

Which must be driving the "Psychs" nuts. If you will pardon the expression. :)

----

Now with visual aids.

A brilliant satirist? Or a truly sincere Scilon? Either way, it's (possibly) hilarious.

Your first link is borked, and deleted by the Scilons on Photobucket, and the second one is a thumbnail.

I think that's sincere, not funny enough to be satire.

I don't think it's funny enough to be satire, either.

It's either sincere, in which case it's utterly kooky, or it's a troll, in which case it's still kooky. With "Tom Newton" AKA Alan Connor, one can never quite tell.

BTW, "Tom" is the person responsible for the firebomb threat that spawned this Enturbulation.org thread. That was not considered funny at the time. The voters of alt.usenet.kooks agreed that it wasn't funny, as they voted "Tom" USENET Coward of the Month for February 2008.

Tom N. is, apparently, a well-known internet kook who posts under a number of aliases. In ARS he's playing the role of the loyal Scientologist--and it's genuinely hard to tell whether he actually is, or he's just enjoying his internet kookery.

Grasping at straws, I SWEAR.

First it's a government conspiracy. Then it's a pharmacology conspiracy. What's next, a conspiracy of Michael Moore's? Conspiracy of ~*~Hollywood~*~?

It can't be Hollywood, they've already got them celebrities on their side.

It says a lot about the Co$ that they apparently can't handle the idea that there is no conspiracy, and some people are exactly what they appear to be.

Publicity, yes. Good publicity, not so much.

Either way bringing such amazing LOLs only makes Anonymous more interested.

The part about the trolls makes it sound like he's being sincere. It's not insane enough to be satire.

In a moment of vaguely off-topicness, I randomly did an LJ Interest search yesterday for 'anonymous', just to see what came up. The comms are all anonymemes and postsecret ripoffs, but the ads are what caught my attention.

Screencap at my JF journal.

The "relative cheapness" of the Co$?

I dunno...$300k would by me a lot of therapy and a shit-ton of drugs.

Yeah, and you know what? In my experience, psychology students are super keen to tell everyone they meet how much they know about psychology and How To Fix Yourself. So you don't have to pay for therapy, just hang out with psych majors!

I love how Freemasonry shows up on the flowchart as, "hell, why not".

What I want to know is where the shapeshifting blood drinking lizardpeople that really control the world fit in. Or would they be Marcabs?

The masons are in on this?! Why didn't my father and grandfather at least hint at it!? My father took great pleasure in hinting at every other masonic conspiracy (for the lolz)! I was a jobie for crying out loud!

Why are we always the last to know? D:
