Anonymous Takes On Scientology (And Doesn't Afraid of Anything)
Over in lovely Baltimore, the City Paper's recent front-page story consists of what may possibly be the most extensive--- and accurate--- article on Anonymous and the war on the intertubes to date. You know it's going to be good from the opening quotes.

"We're not playing some minor game in Scientology. It isn't cute or something to do for lack of something better. . . . This is a deadly serious activity."

--L. Ron Hubbard, 1965

"The Internet is Serious Business"

--Anonymous

Serious Business indeed. ((Digg for great justice. ))

As an added bonus, if you look today you can see it on the front page of the City Paper's website.

In the high school of the internet, /b/ is the kid with a collection of butterfly knives and a locker full of porn.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!

No prob, gotta share the win as it rolls in. If only the big media groups would do even half as good as this...

THIS IS AWESOME.

I don't think I've seen internet memes used "properly" (as in not put in quotes or taken far too seriously by explaining the origins of each one) in any article ever.

I have the feeling Chris Landers may be more familiar with /b/ than the average outsider, if you know what I mean.

No kidding. I'd been thinking the same thing throughout the article.

This is sort of random to the topic, but it occured to me today and since I have an account here and not anywhere else....Has anyone else thought it'd be a good idea to put the following (modified) quote on a poster or perhaps a shout for the April 12th protests? This is sort of random to the topic, but it occured to me today and since I have an account here and not anywhere else....Has anyone else thought it'd be a good idea to put the following (modified) quote on a poster or perhaps a shout for the April 12th protests? "Through dangers untold, and hardships unnumbered, we have fought our way to the cult beyond the <name city/and or city streets>, to take back the children that you have stolen. Our will is stronger than yours, and our kingdom is greater. You have no power over us." It seems... appropiate considering the topic of the protests. But is it insulting to imply that $cientology is anywhere near as hot as Jareth in those pants? Is there a way to keep Jareth sacred and simply mark them down as the goblins?

This would be FANTASTIC. It's too complicated to be a good picket sign, though... maybe a T-shirt?

I have no idea how to de-Jareth it. Sigh. Possibly someone can do something terrible and awesome with Photoshop and a Labyrinth screenshot.

This + Radar = HUGE EPIC FUCKING WIN!!!

That was an amazing article, and I love that it focused on and tried to explain Anonymous -- and actually did a good job! The quotes helped, I'm so proud of my DC Anons, and super excited for April 12. Lol'd at the Scilon interview, but I thought it was actually pretty cool that the writer got an interview, since the Radar article didn't have one (and was a lot snarkier and more biased towards Anon than this one).

Thanks for sharing this!

Don't forget the Economist (well, older article but still!) and the CSM. \o/

But yeah, awesome that he got a Scilon interview too~

Christian Science Monitor, my (former reporter) mom says it's quite prestigious ;o

Economist: Fair Game

CSM: Anonymous Activists Gaining Strength Online

I've heard from a professor that I loved that the CSM has the best international coverage of any US paper. It was pretty easy to skip the Christian Science essays and get into the sexy World News.

Though it made all my friends make fun of me to see it in the house :(

Thanks! They're not v. informative, but since one of the complaints has been lack of news coverage I'm glad to see more stories coming out.
