Childfree + metaquotes = ?
Not so big in the first place, and dying down, I guess. I was rolling my eyes nonetheless, at the USAGE of RANDOM CAPS, mostly.

Everybody is being faintly wanky, at least until issues get sorted out.

Why the hell doesn't she just take a simple sandwich(peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter and maple syrup, banana and peanut butter, whatever, something that sticks together well and is quick)

Peanut butter and maple syrup?

Why can't the kid have seconds? I mean, the damn food is right there, and it's a hell of a lot easier than buying one hot lunch and bringing extra food in a sack. People! I don't care if you're childfree! Weren't you ever kids yourselves once? Damn.

I didn't see anything weird about the school refusing to give free seconds for hot lunches. The schools I was in for K-12 had the same policy. If people wanted extra food in middle school and high school, they would buy a snack from the snack machines.

I guess my question is...
[info]karmakaze

I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around anyone needing seconds for a school lunch. As I understand it, the schools are required by law to supply adequate quantities of nutritious food. So... either the lunches themselves are flawed... or I wonder why this child needs more food than that on a regular basis.

You've never had peanut butter and maple syrup sandwiches? Those are the most delicious sandwiches on earth.

Peanut butter and maple syrup is delicious. It goes together splendidly. I pointed out peanut butter combinations because those are less likely to fall apart in a sandwich bag.
And yes, I am the allmighty wanky GreenJeanz. Behold! ;)

Well, I honestly don't know why they don't give seconds. I suppose it's a budget thing. *shrug* My problem was that that's the rule, and there's a lot of rational reasons I can think of for it, so the kid might as well try something positive and help herself instead of complaining. The rest of my comments were of the comedic variety. Laugh, dammit! ;)

I was making my own lunches and washing my own clothes when I was six years old!

Either they're lying through their teeth, or they had an awfully shitty childhood. The only kid I knew who took on that kind of responsibility at such a young age was the daughter of two raging alcoholics.

And, honestly, when I was eleven it was considered massively uncool to bring in your lunches from home. And anyone with an obviously Mom-made lunch would probably have it mocked, then stolen and eaten.

That's funny - at my school, it was considered very gauche to actually buy the school lunch. (Although I'd buy a lunch ticket off somone for pizza day.)

When I was six years old, I made my own lunches sometimes. Well, they weren't lunches so much as a bunch of completely random shit thrown into a bag.

Of course, I think my mom did it so she'd have embarrassing story fodder later on in life. The damn woman still talks about my jelly-ketchup-catfish sandwiches.

OP: "This brat wanted free food when she should have just brought her own."

Everyone else: "Um, that is SO not the point. If an eleven year old can't make herself some lunch, there's something weird going on."

Everyone else: "Um, autism? Not normal. So that falls under the category of weird things going on."

Um, so-called "normal" kids should be able to make their own lunches. The end. No one's talking about the speshul children--we're talking about the "normal" ones.

If a "normal" kid can't make their own lunch at eleven, they're a lazy waste of space. i.e., my brother, who is seventeen, and as far as I know, still doesn't make his own lunch. Normal and lazy.

He is an incredible artist, drawing in three dimensions since he was 3, but he only was able to ride a bike a mere month ago. He has word-attack skills and Story Recall scores in the college-level range, yet a grade equivalent of 3.1 in Math Fluency. He has a vocabulary of an 8th-grader, but only was able to tie his shoes last fall. So what you're saying is, your son's going to have a great and rewarding career in a comic book or hobby store? You know, the kind that sell RPGs and CCGs and miniatures and have space in the back for people to game?
